Hello djboulette, I had the same problem: dropouts when turning display off and randomly while playing music. Also the system hung from time to time. The only way to solve the problem is to do a factory reset. To do this go to Settings->SD & phone storage->Factory data reset. I recommend to backup your phone because this wipes your entire phone memory. The system software and the files on the SD won't be touched.
I hope I could help you.
thank you for your reply, but problem occure with fresh install too.
But it's weird that nobody with froyo sense experiment the same problem.
Also i have a friend with froyo sense rom and same laggy sound bugg...
I have a very similar problem with the HTC Player. Besides of that everything seems to work fine. I don't have any hangs etc. I think the dropouts are happening when the SD card is accessed.
I tried MixZing and have very similar results. Maybe the SD card is too slow, no idea?
Hello, i don't think is the sd card too slow, because with 2.1 eclair no problem at all.
I have a class 4 16go Lexar card
and my friend class 6 16gb transcend card
It seems to me that the memory management changed. I'm not sure if as much cache is available to the music player as it was on 2.1. If this is the case the storage has to deliver faster. It's a long shot but I can see the same problem with different players and different tunes that used to work fine.

my htc music widget seems jumpy, when recving txts or using copoilot, when using coplilot espicially, the music seems to jump when i tap the screen
Hello, i found this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=723073.
I think all is linked, maybe the sd card gestion has changed, and perfomance too.
As in the signature of my posts, I have the stock ROM on my unrooted Desire. However, after the OTA update it occured to me. The sound of the music player dropped frequently. After I hard-resetted my Desire, it was gone. I could browse through my galleries without a single drop of the sound.
The thing with the SD or generally the file system speed of my Desire was never a problem. It was fast all the time. Maybe it had something to do with my goldcard or it was a coincidence. I don't know.
Sadly problem still here after factory reset.
Nandroid is my friend, but thank for your help ^^
Hard-resetted, formatted my SD card.
Still choppy. This is really sad.
Flash is rubbish, russian froyo has some localisation problems (like when i want to type space, it types "!" instead, yeah, that bad), SD card copying is slow, and music is laggy. I wish i've stayed on eclair.
I have no problem with Music Player, yesterday i've listen more than one hour and a half of continuous music playback without any kind of problem with some tasks in the background (Last.fm, Seesmic, Facebook, weather widget etc).

Did you tried to load gallery, or some apps that read to sd?
I tried so many ROMS (ap2sd+ or not), all with problem (Whatever the music player: spotify, 3, stock player, etc.)
Except with vanilla ROMS, music run smoothly.
I have a LEXAR 16gb micro SD, class 4, with ext3 partion.
I also had the problem on Froyo, and traced or back to a widget I was using. Pure calendar. Not saying the widget is faulty, but it seems that the widget and maybe other widgets that call on processor power regularly may affect the music player. Changing the settings on the widget sorted the problem. See if there is a process or widget that is polling regularly, and that may be your problem. To be honest, on a multitasking phone with a processor like ours, this shouldn't be an issue, but hey...I may be wrong. Not sure if it will help you guys, but hope it will.

I tried different combination, even with no widget at all, and no running apps on backround, same problem.
I'd restore a old nandroid backup of my eclair stock rom, no problem a all, even with a tonne of widget and running apps.
HTC froyo for sure...
I'm getting the same problem only since the ota update. Listening to music as I'm writing this and its fine but as soon as I access photos the music becomes laggy. I have a 4gb class 6 sd card so can't be the speed of that. I'm using task manager and there is loads if free memory... strange.
Can I ask aswel, the people who are having this problem, have you tried recording in 720p. I tested his out earlier and it seemed to record fine but The playback is really poor. Very jerky and laggy.
What transfer speed are you getting from the class 6 card? Measured on the phone, not on a pc.
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
Ok I have just tested my mem card. It states class 6 on the card although the app that I used says 4mbps write and 6mbps read. The app states that this its a class 4 card so can't see that being the problem.
Any ideas anyone

Xperia S ICS - music playing stuttering

Does anyone experience some stuttering when playing music on the xperia S using the walkman app and Bluetooth after upgrading to ICS? This is really bugging me... The stuttering is quite serious and seem to happen whenever the phone is doing some memory draining activities or simply unlocking from the lock screen.
I updated the phone using Sony update service.
I have tried some third party apps like double twist and the problem is also there...
Do anyone also experience the same problem?
Sent from my LT26i using XDA
Yes, I do.
I upgraded to ICS by manually flashing via fastboot adb.
I use my XS in my car over bluetooth stereo. I does stutter a lot and bothers me even more.
Regardless which app I use...
( I mostly use music folder player)
Xperia S ICS stock
For me it stutters initially but then it starts being stable.
the walkman app consumes an insane mount of memory :/
so ya... the memory comes in the red zone when playing audio! hopefully sony will fix the memory management soon, because it's pretty bad.
Mine did it before ics!
I noticed it too, when I was listening to music with my MW600. Especially when I unlock my XS or browsing through my phone.
Before ICS, I had no stutter. It was just fine.

With my limited amount of build.prop reading of different devices, I found the Dalvik VM heap size = 128MB is insane.
I never seen any device like that. The most is 64MB I think is plenty.
Quote random internet beta-tester said about the heap size:
It is the memory allocated to the dalvik virtual machine increasing it will use more memory if the apk calls for it and decreasing will use less, but go into garbage quicker thus making the apk perform less efficiently. This has to do with reading java code increasing the dalvik.vm will probably make no noticeable differences. I have played no big deal I trust moto and 30 seems good.

I experience this issue. Never before when I was using the GB. I always use the PowerAmp and it gets stuck like
What the heck has Sony done? :banghead:
I have tried to do a "reset settings" from the phone (without wiping user data). It does not work.
I have posted an enquiry in the sonymobile forum and someone just says that I should repair my phone using Sony Update Service when in fact the SUS just tells me that I have the latest software and ask me to "exit".
Today I have tried using bluetooth headset, phone's screen-off, and in a windy situation - the music playing just stutters like crazy.
I have also used cabled headset - I can only say there is "nearly no" stuttering, but not a completely no - it also stutters sometimes.
If this problem is not resolved by Sony anytime soon I think I'm surely downgrading back to Gingerbread.

Are you sure it's 128MB? Mine says 256MB
Majority of the time, I see my free RAM is close to 100MB, same setup in GB I usually have about > 200MB. What the hell is this?!
Multitasking is pathetic, and to the worse, if you are playing music and doing something!

Yep, I don't quite understand what was the fuzz about so much time in testing when they can't get this basic thing right?
Disappointed !!!
I changed the values in build.prop to max growth 32mb and max 64mb, will see how it turns out :fingers-crossed:

Keep us updated on the results! I'm going to hold off upgrading to ICS if it's going to adversely affect music playback, as I rely heavily on my Xperia S to listen to music.
Mine did it on GB and on ICS being blue tooth connected to a parrot hands free. But if I disable the music so it's connected for calls only, but then audio jack plug my fone into my stereo its all fine, so I assume it's not the music player, but either the bluetooth or the parrot?
Um... if I do not use bluetooth and use a cable headset, it is true that stuttering becomes "rare" ... but I can still experience some very occasional "stuttering" and that is already enough annoying...
With bluetooth connected, the stuttering becomes crazy..
I am definitely going to downgrade to GB tonight; am very disappointed with the upgrade and the fact that this issue appears to be not tested at all
ive got the same problem.. sometimes it is really bad, especially when browsing or being in facebook the music stutters continously while the processor is working hard.
I changed the dalvik values in the build.prop and I must say, the average free ram is now 220mb...
sometimes it goes a bit below 200, but it's always around 220mb  it wasn't like that before.. I had like 150mb max free :crying:
the launcher is also less laggy

And there's no more stuttering music? Or did you not experience stuttering music before you changed the values?

DG H200 Media link not playing YouTube videos more than 4 mins :(

I recently got imported DG h200 . Perfectly configured and got updated then, everything what it can play is smooth and good .
But like if I want to watch a show like of 10-20 mins, etc on YouTube app, it does plays.. but like wifi disconnects for a micro second( or I could be wrong that this doesn't happens) and the video pauses and stops and even waiting for a minute nothing happens and on screen the video goes back to the first image where the video started.
But in phone the bar is there where the video stopped( like on 4 mins 10 secs or whatever) and media link still keeps on working fine (just the display but isn't playing the video), but just the video stops and to resume I need to click a little ahead or back at the bar and then the video buffers and starts from around where it stopped . I don't want this to happen please as this issue shouldn't be there .
I have done the 5-7 seconds hold reset and reconfigure but still the same.
I don't even get the message that my wifi reception is weak or anything on this (I get that separately sometimes) . But the issue is happening when I am even near my wifi .
I feel its something with the phone dropping the signal as if taking little more juice or if its issue with 4.2.2 stock, but the thing is media link gives no issue as it keeps working on phone and t.v .
I even uninstall latest updates of YouTube and the prob still was there . Even tried with removing wifi optimization option and removed power saver, etc options but still the same . Sleep mode off gave a little progress and made a video played continuously for 10 mins but it stopped again
Please someone help .
Did you have sleep mode off before and after you did the 5-7 seconds reset.

Music Auto stop problem.

Hey, i got a problem. Sometime when i play music on my Xperia T2 Ultra Dual, it sometimes stop playing music and them resumes after 30 some seconds. first i thought this issue was with walkman app, so i bought poweramp but the issue persists. i have also used some other player too. so i just want to know that if this issues is with my phone and its hardware or is is a firmware bug and how to solve it....:good::good::good:
I use to had similar problem, as well my phone hangs, when volume up key is pressed,
I went to service center, somehow they fixed it, now working fine.
They were not able to inform me what was the exact problem.
I've that problem.

and it occurs with any music player not just walkman.
any solution?
I've rooted so any root based solution is also welcomed.
please help.

I'm also facing same problem in addition my headphone MH410 most of the time can't register double clicks for playing next track. I noticed the problem presists with other headphone leads also.
I am having issue with playing any song with any music player on xperia t2 .
Track being played stops(sound) however the track is still in playing status.this happens for 5-6 seconds and sound comes back again.Do we have any fix for this?.
Coming from t2 ultra dual on carbon rom, music only stops playing when screen is locked for a couple of minutes. It doesnt stop playing if the screen is on. So i'm thinking it has something to do with the sleep cycles of the device. I haven't been able to pinpoit it though. Nothing ive done so far helped.
Hey guys I was having the same problem but just found a fix,it worked for me hopefully it works for u also..
Power management /Extended standby /Apps active in standby and add music to it.
Solution Finally!
HI, guys, I'm gonna share the solution I've found and it works great, plus it doesn't involve tinkering with anything.
The music auto-stop problem lies deep underneath the application that locks the screen of your phone or probably something malfunctions when the screen is locked. Now, there is a difference between turning off the screen (the light) and locking it. Turning off the lights does not essentially means locking it off. And, as our problem starts when the screen is locked we will try NOT locking it. So, go to Settings->Security->Screen Lock and select "None". This will essentially prevent your phone from locking the screen anyways.
---------- Post added at 10:08 AM ---------- Previous post was at 09:53 AM ----------
But, hold on, does that mean it also removes any kind of security that prevents nosey people from intruding? Yes, it does.
So???
Well, first of all you cannot have screen locked while listening to music. You can turn on/off screen lock after/before you listen to music, but that's annoying.
So, I suggest get this app: jet audio
There's an option in this app to modify screen lock option when this app is running on foreground. In this player, go to preferences->Screen then select No Screen Lock and then use it to listen to music (it's actually a very cool player. for those of you who are using paid players try the plus version, worth every penny.)
Hope this helps.
Note: you don't need to apply both to make this work. If you're using jet it will override the system screen lock settings while it's playing and is foreground
Note2: music players other than jet may have this no screen lock option, you can try those too.
just update it to 5.1.1
because i never faced such problems in 5.1.1
I have tried changing settings,removing apps,etc,still not working,pleaseee help!!!!
