GPE RUU ok to do on the Verizon One? - Verizon HTC One (M7)

i see the GPE RUU is up. i really want to do this so i can get KitKat OTA. anyone know?

Isn't made for the Verizon one. You flash that and you will screw up your phone.

As was said, it will screw up your phone. Also, being that you aren't S-OFF, it won't even let you flash it.

my signature is misleading. im rooted, unlocked, and have s-off.
is there anyway to convert to a GPE phone on verizon? I really want vanilla kitkat. or should i just be waiting for ROM's to come out?

You can use one of the many GPE ROMs available, but they're all based on 4.3. Kit Kat was just released yesterday, have some patience.

The reason I wanted the gpe ruu was so that I can get the kitkat ota that's happening in 15 days.

Just because you flash a gpe Rom that's been ported to work on Verizon isn't going to get you the ota. As the phones that gets gpe runs on gsm abd Verizon runs cdma. So to get kit Kat you need to wait till a dev ports the kit Kat version to work on Verizon or till Verizon releases kit Kat.

[PrimoC/CDMA]More ROM problems...

Hey guys, gotta make this quick. As of lately, I unlocked my bootloader with the intentions of installing a different ROM. I've tried nearly every ROM (including the stock de/odexed ones) and nothing will stay on. With every flash I have done a FULL wipe and flashed correct boot.imgs, but still nothing more than being rebooted a minute after the ROM starts up. I need this phone to run again because I can't stand the loaner I have.

I suppose I can give it a go... but do you have any idea of what's making everything fail so horribly? Because honestly, HTC devices are a whole new ballpark to me.
the 3 ROMS whichu cant ignore are
CM10
AOKP JB
PACman ROM

He asked because the OTA update will cause exactly what you describe.
I would revert back to pre-OTA by running the RUU and then relock/reroot/rerom from there.

Where would I find an Ubuntu-friendly RUU? My Win7 partition decided to s#!t the bed so I'm stuck running on Ubuntu 12.10 until I can get an external HDD to back up all of my Windows files. Thanks.
EDIT: If there is no "Ubuntu-friendly" version, does it atleast play nicely with Wine? This has become a pain in the tush and honestly, I'd just love to get this over with so I can have a functioning phone again. Not to mention get some of that JellyBean goodness.
EDIT #2: Nevermind! I figured it out and now it's all good in the hood.

can google edition be flashed without changing cid

just got s-off from Sonic, it is also unlocked & rooted with clockwork recovery.
I really want the google edition rom on my phone, but I cannot get the phone to be recognized under fastboot usb ( I am on ubuntu ) to change the CID. So.. my question is.. can I just download the ruu for google edition to my internal memory, boot into clockwork and flash if from there ? Or will it mess it up ?
Anyhelp would be much , much appriciated.
ps. did a backup of my current rom under clockwork.

I would not advise doing this, even if you edit the CID on the device or in the android info.text in the RUU first.
The stock Google Edition Rom is GSM and not going to work as desired/or at all on Verizon without modifications made to it.
You have gone through with getting S-Off and are gonna want to be able to use fastboot.
It's a necessity if you plan on modding your phone really.
Aside from this, you must have had it working before,...how did you unlock your bootloader or load a recovery?
I would suggest getting fastboot to work again and probably not flashing a GSM based rom.
oh no.. this sucks.. I really hoped I can get G. edition on the phone.. so.. are there pure android versions for htc one then ? I really don't care what it is. I just want stock android 4.2.2 or 4.3 on the phone.. I know CM is still flaky, from what I understand.
My phone got unlocked with sonic card. I was never able for the OS to recognize my device under fastboot usb, both of my htc ones. Not sure why, they just won't shop up. But anyways, I have recovery working.. What version would you suggest I flash ?

I had issues with the GPE GSM functionality added ROM. I installed that and while it says it's the Verizon version just with GSM support it majorly janked up my phone. Lost carrier signal and went into endless data roam. I had to reflash the decrypted RUU to get everything back to normal. I have been a little leery of AOSP Roms since bc I had the same issues on CM and Liquid Smooth.
I installed Mokee yesterday and it has been decent save for the terrible battery life.

Yeah I keep hearing about it happening to people. I'm using the gpe right now and all is well. It also seems like If you come from another non sense rom to a new non sense rom, you'll have issues but if you flash from sense it'll turn out alright. Not sure why, but that seems like the consensus to not have any messed up radios or whatever. I came from bonestock and I haven't had any issues using this rom in over a week.

What will change when an ota update is taken?

So I've been thinking of restoring my stock backup on .10 and updating to .15. If I use ota root keeper can I still keep root and will I still be able to flash the same roms? What determines if roms will still work so I know for later? Sorry if this has been answered elsewhere, couldn't find it. Thanks!

I'm new to the HTC game, but does the ROM dictate what firmware/radio its using? So if the ROM is based off .08, .12 or .15 that is what your system will be?
Also if you do go back to stock and take the OTA to the .15 firmware, Rumrunner has already been updated to do its magic changes to .15.

I'm kind of wondering the same as you, I think you remain s-off and unlocked when you update though since verizon didn't patch either I don't think but I'm not positive.
Most of the people you'll find one here (the ones much smarter about all this than me) recommend avoiding the OTA updates from Verizon. The devs will usually get you the same stuff without risk of losing root or s-off or anything like that. Look at Santod's thread here:

I did see this thread but I'm not sure if/what I can flash on top of my custom ROM. I know I don't want the recovery because I have TWRP installed, but what about the Kernel and Radio? Can I flash either or both of thous on top of Eclipse GPE ROM?
Does the ROM being flashed normally dictate which of the firmware versions my phone is on? Or do I have to choose a ROM matching the firmware version of my phone?

4.3 Root Method/ROM Flash

I took the 4.3 (I know, I know, never take an OTA).
I want to root and flash CM11, but there is no root method for 4.3 yet.
Anyone know if there is any way to root right now (flashing 4.2 firmware or something like that) or do I have to wait? If so, how long do you think?
Thanks!

Nothing yet. All we can do is wait and see. Since there are no updates about progress that I've found from those who've posted the patches, there is no good way to estimate how long, or even if, at this point.
I haven't ever tried it, but if you're S-ON and are on 4.3 will the phone block you from flashing the old 605.15 encrypted RUU?

I'm in the exact same boat, friend. Never really saw a need to unlock or root prior to the OTA but now I'm having serious battery issues, mainly the phone radio using over 50% of my battery daily. I've been googling so hard I've almost broken my internets, but can't seem to find anyway to downgrade to use rum runner. I'm just dealing with it and hoping beaups and the other devs find a way to get us unlocked. Until then I'll wait patiently with my portable charger on hand lol.

What he is saying is that if you used rumrunner or sent it in to gain S-OFF, all you would have to do is download the superuser zip file and in TWRP flash the superuser file. When you reboot you might need to update the binaries but that would do it.

No, it won't work, it prevents your from downgrading, as HTC software has always done.
If I had a locked device, there are a couple things I would try to see if I could make it work.
Likely they wouldn't though, and I'd hate to get anyone's hopes up or send them down an unsuccessful path.
Bottomline being, there is currently no way to unlock, or to downgrade from a locked 4.3 device, to achieve an unlock.

Oh yeah I've been trying. I tried multiple downloads from multiple sources but they all hang up at the checking main version action and then fail. It's pretty much just playing the waiting game for rum runner and attempting patience. I'm not too hopeful for anything in the next few weeks since everyone has been busy with Christmas and such and New Years coming up. But if it can be done, the devs on here will do it.

Upgrade from 4.1.1?

Hi all. Just looking for some info/direction. I haven't used my s3 for awhile. My daughter wants to try out Android so im going to let her use it for a bit. I just flashed back to rooted stock image. Didn't realize its still on 4.1.1 and boot loader is MG2. I've been doing some reading and the info is kind of all over the place. Anyone have any info on best/safest way to upgrade? Should I unroot and take OTA's...or flash a stock ROM....thanks for any info and tips.
I recommend flashing back to stock 4.1.1 ROM without root, then run ota updates until you got the most recent kit kat.

If you are on 4.1.1 or 4.1.2, any update you install will require you to update bootloader and modem. 4.1.1 was the last full unrooted ROM available for AT&T. Everything else was OTA. Once you OTA to 4.3 JB or 4.4 KK please keep in mind that you can no longer downgrade the bootloader or you will brick your device.
But yes, you can still root the device as far as I have been able to tell.

The most recent KK custom ROMs will require a KK bootloader and KK modem.

I suggest unlocking now before upgrading as the unlock codes may not be that cheap. I know for the Canadian s3, it about $18.

Just because you are not looking to unlock it _right_now_ doesn't mean you won't need it in future. Obvious reason to unlock would be for example if want to use it when you travel. If you don't unlock it now when you can, you could end up never unlocking it at all. And really, why not unlock?!
