I have been reading that it's quite possible that the next batch of Nexus devices could be made by multiple companies. I was just curious as to what people thought of this and if this does happen which will you probably go with? I have always been big on Samsung but if HTC, Motorola, and Samsung all make their own version of the Nexus, I honestly don't know what I would do...What do you guys think about this? Do you think it will happen? Which do you think you would probably go with if this does happen?

Pretty sure there is a thread about this elsewhere, but to answer your question..... I'd go with Motorola all day long. Motorola's hardware is the best hands down, couple that with a open boot loader and toll be the best device we have seen yet.

Moto would be a good choice, but I'd be really tempted by Samsung or HTC. HTC especially, I've had a few of their devices and loved them all, but Sammy has that amazing SAMOLED screen and it's hard going from it to any other screen. Definitely interesting and hopefully true.
I looked and didn't see anything... I was actually leaning more towards Motorola myself. They made solid phones. I'm not big on HTC.. Many ppl like the way they build phones but I like the plastic look. Also Motorola is known for better reception..I've read a lot about how they make best radios.. Looking very forward to it!! Love my Nexus devices!

I think if Motorola would make it, it word go perfect with slcd2, omap5, nice 3500 battery, and thin.

Motorola for sure. Kind miss my og. I have had Sammy HTC and moto. And my of droid was great in its prime.

If only moto and sammy would team up.
Sammy screens, Moto battery tech, Vanilla AOSP Jelly bean or Kandy Kane, both can build slim devices, Moto radios (best in the biz)...maybe some styling from HTC (I always thought my rezound was kind of sexy/classy...for a fat girl). 4.6 to 4.8" screen. 3000mah slim battery....carbon kevlar the whole phone minus the glass and leave it the natural yellowish/greenish/black color. NFC....
I've thought of a way Moto could make their slim batteries like in the Razr and Maxx, removable....but it's hard to explain. (Quick detach I'm implying, not how they are currently removable).
And for heaven's sake at least 32gb since we all know Google won't allow an SD card on a Nexus device. Maybe even a wacom screen like the Note.....
The multiple nexii idea is unrealistic, it would kill the whole meaning of the nexus series, there's also the issue of who will get updates first and who will be issuing the updates, google or oems... we've already witnessed how the cdma gnex contributed to the fragmentation problem, multiple nexii would do the same.
In addition, i hope the next nexus won't have an over saturated and contrasted oled display, i think we should look up to the one x standards.

Well whatever Google decides to go with for the next Nexus...please no Tegra 3. Yes a lot of games are "optimized & compatible" for Teg3 but honestly I think there are better options out there.
hope not...cuz i might hv to get all of them cuz nexus are awesome!!!
I don't believe we will see several new Nexus phones this year. What has been said is that there might be 4-5 nexus devices released this year, right? Well, we already know about two of those: the Nexus 7 and the Nexus Q (although the latter has been delayed). A new phone brings that number up to three, and the fourth device could possibly be a larger tablet (?). Not sure what else there could possibly be, but again, I don't believe there will be more than one new phone.
I think the next nexus will be made by Google.... They own Motorola mobility now so I'm guessing Google will be releasing there own
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app
I can't imagine it being made by anyone but Samsung at this point, honestly. I'd love to see HTC make one, personally. I'm not sure about the other variants, but the HTC OneX (or OneS?) on T-Mobile is absolutely wonderful, physically. It's got that metallic feel that the Nexus One had. I like that a lot more than slick plastic.
I'd love a moto nexus. When it comes to quality hardware ie. Antennas, moto is the best

Not likely. Motorola still operates as its own entity, not as a hardware division of Google, and Google has publically stated that they won't give Motorola preferential treatment like that. The other OEMs would not be happy if they did. So Motorola has the same chances as everyone else (which in my opinion means it's pretty unlikely they will get to make the next Nexus).
its either Motorola or Samsung.. i dont think google would choose HTC (again) or Sony..
wasnt nexuses are supposed to be a developer phone? and not high class fashionista phone like that glass brick does?

Hello, i am an xdanoob. I have been an iphone user for the last 2 years and i feel the time to upgrade and switch to android has finally come, i have always liked to tweak my stuff to get the most out of it ( i build my own PCs etc ) and i am tired of IOS lack of customization. I have read a whole lot on this forum and have narrowed my search to 2 phones, the GNEX and galaxy s3, other stuff like HTC etc is impossible to find in my country ( Argentina ) and even the gnex isn't sold officialy, so you have to get it via import. I also want to buy my cell phone unlocked since i don't want bloatware and carriers here take ages to update OS if they ever update it at all and they don't even sell the gnex...between the 2 phones i like the gnex most ( updates directly from google, no overlap UI, huge dev comunity etc ) and i have tried the s3 in stores and i just don't like how it feels. My only concern with the gnex is that it feels that im buying an outdated phone now that the quadcore era is approaching. Since i am spending big bucks on either phone ( no google play store here nor used at a reasonable price etc ) it will have to last at least 2 years. Should i buy the gnex now or wait till the new nexus and find a way to get my hands on one ( some1 travelling to the US, robbing a bank etc ) for reference unlocked phones here cost roughly 200% of US retail price, for ex: best price i found for a new sealed GNEX right now was 750 dollars.
I know all the info is already out there but i really need advice on this specific situation. Sry for my english and thanks in advance.
EDIT: i finally got it! it arrived today, love it.
another one of these threads and I may vomit
^ ^
Go ahead. I have read all the related threads and the general consensus seems to be: if you can get one really cheap buy one, otherwise wait for the next-gen nexus. <---- since this is not an option available to me i have started a new thread for my ( and i guess everyone living in this region ) specific issue.
But thanks for posting anyway.

Really? This is how we welcome new members? Not exactly a good way to keep a forum going.
To the OP: I think the current Nexus has great development and will continue to even after the next Nexus comes along (whenever that may be). I prefer a non-bloated, "clean slate" device as well, and the Nexus seems to deliver on that experience better than the S3 IMO.

Wait to see what the next Nexus will bring.
This will also lower the prices of the present Nexus by then.
Definitely do not buy one brand new right now. Just wait to see what the specs of the new one will be.
Use your IOS, you won't die if you keep using it for the next 1 ~ 2 months. =)

I agree with everything in the quote post. Welcome to xda. I had a nexus on vzw and switched to sprint. Got an evo 4g lte and selling it to go back to the gnex. I would agree that there will be deving for a long time on it just look at the older nexus phones and they all still have quite a bit of deving for them. No bloat and constant updates available by google means a smooth running phone and the best experience even stock.

You can get great deals on the gnex now. Wait if you want the latest and greatest, but you'll pay over twice as much. The gnex is a great phone, and there are already great roms and mods. A new nexus will take some time before developers have roms and mods. Just some things to consider.

I say: buy. It's such a nice device with A LOT of customization. In my honest opinion it is truly the most beautiful smartphone atm.
When you have an LG device or Samsung or any other than Galaxy Nexus series you will kinda get dissapointed when new devices come out, becuase of better specs, you know. Also it will take longer for software updates.
This is nice about the Nexus. When new devices come out you don't have to worry about your software walking behind, becuase you know you're always the first guy getting new software. And in that case hardware won't matter, at least not to me.
Hope this helped
I just got mine a couple weeks ago from Newegg , got the DOCOMO version unlocked. I first had it on Simple Mobile and would have said wait cause the phone sucks but after switching to AT&T go the phone works perfect and awesome signal and speeds. I'm happy as hell with this phone and development. I have never liked I phone or there software just me though lol feel there made for old people and people who do not know or care about customizing there phone. I also agree with most here about a asop experience. I have had a lot of android phones , HTC, Samsung and etc. And this is my first carrier unlocked and pure Google phone and I have to say I don't think I could ever own a non Google android phone again lol. For the $349 price on Google to me you can't beat this phone right now.

In order to get everything to work correctly on cm10, the devs need to "blindly" port over cm10 as the S3's stock os is not open source. Some files also are from the stock ROM and not cm/aosp so they will not work as well as the aosp ones from the gnex. There will always be bugs with the s3 cm, always.

I just purchased a Nexus from the Play Store yesterday and on the first of October I am getting a Red GS3 from AT&T just because that Red color looks so good and a 148.00 price tag from Sam's Club is not all that bad,as for the contract that is meaningless because I have been with AT&T long before the Cingular days long ago and do not plan on going to any other provider because contrary to popular belief AT&T has been a good fit for me and my wife!!! Had a HTC Vivid and all I can say is man what a crap phone!
WOW thanks for all the replies guys. i have decided to buy the gnex, i cant go wrong with a a nexus device after all hehe.
I am looking forward to learn a lot from xda
I just wanted to ask, if you face the daily problems like me.
I have a Galaxy Nexus and I bought it because it has the pure Android.
In my private life there are those who have an s2 and are happy with it and do not want to get a new android version because "then everything is new and I don't want to explore my smartphone"
Then there are the Applers. I do not think I have to add informations about them.
And last but not least there are those who always buy a new Samsung and think they are the best now because they have the best smartphone on market.
And every group tells me, that I am stupid because I tell them valid arguments to prove that their smartphones are just not as "cool" or "that much of a intelligent piece of work" as they think and that they are facing several security lags if they don't listen to me. But ....
Do you have friends like me or are my friends the exception?

Anyway, I don't see the point of this thread.
I don't compare the devices of my friends with mine. They tell me how great theirs is and I just give them QN cooldown by telling that its nothing special or that its a standard for Google since ancient times

Haha I kind of know what you mean. A lot of people think the iPhone is the best phone out there, probably because its name is basically "Phone" and subliminally says "perfection". Would you rather buy something called iPhone or Ace or Thunderbolt or Nexus?
And it doesn't help that "everyone" has an iPhone, and because they just got it they have to show it off or put it in some $100 case. I remember a time where owning an iPhone meant you were on the wealthy side, but now it seems everyone and their poorer brother has one. Actually, both on and off contract the Galaxy Nexus costs more than the iPhone 4. Used the Galaxy Nexus fetches about $200, more pre Nexus 4. I got a used-but-crackless iPhone 4 in late November for $180. And we all I know iPhone 4 has been free on contract for a while now whereas the Nexus was I think $50 before Verizon ditched it, not sure about other carriers.

Yeah, but to argue with iPhone owners is like talking to a wall. They know you're right and in the depth of their hearts they see your point, but iPhone isn't just a Phone. If you buy an iPhone you're a part of something big. It's like a religion. They doesn't care if you prove them points. It's a matter of believing something or not.

Stop trying to prove or explain them arguments. The lack of a non Nexus phone will show up anyway and then you can put a smirk on your face. Trying to show off and explain features and **** is similar to an Apple user showing his iDevice. We buy our **** for ourselves anyway and if someone's happy with their device, so be it.

I quite enjoy being part of the relitely exclusive 'nexus club' iv seen a few in the wild which random people own but none of my mates have one. I must admit being part of xda does make me take more notice of what people own. Those closest to me own, 2 sgs 2, 1 iphone, 2 sgs 3, 1 dhd. I had the first android out of all of them and they saw it was a superior OS and the dhd came next followed by the 2 sgs2 (both still on ginger bread even now lol) then the iPhone and then the 2 sgs 3. None of which are rooted etc but I know owning a nexus is special where as the rest don't really give two ****s and are happy as they are

Actually my Apple fanboy friends are nice and are not always saying Apple is the best (for example they use PCs instead of Macs, And most of them just have old gen iPods). Here in Portugal not many people have a phone as good has the Nexus (most of those have a stable life and job). When my friends saw the Nexus for the first time they asked "is that a s3?" Correction: The Next Big Thing
Now you get a story of my daily life to show you why it's a pain in the a**.
A friend of mine asked me a couple of month(around end of September/October) ago which phone she should buy. I told her to buy the Nexus 4, because it is stand of art and she would get the updates earlier than nearly all other androidusers and so the security is much higher (one of her strongest wishes for a new phone). She just answered "but it's from LG. I don't buy phones from LG."
I told her that LG produced it but Google designed and developed it.
Her answer "Yeah but on the cover there is the LG- Logo. What will the people think about me? "
After that I just got my head explode and asked why she is interested in the opinion about others. Further I explained:" If the others don't know that your phone is the best on the market, then they are the stupid ones. So f*** on their opinion "
Friend: " Yeah but they do not know that it is the best one. So where is the point in buying it?"
I told her to never ask me again.....
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app
But aren't you sort of doing the same thing she did by getting upset because she didn't understand your point of view? Enjoy your phone and let her enjoy what she ultimately ends up getting. You don't have a phone for the same purpose she does. Besides, if it weren't for Apple, there wouldn't be the drive from Google to make a better phone and you wouldn't have a nexus to be proud of.
I wouldn't buy the lg n4 either as its no better than the galaxy nexus other than better performance with a handful of games an yes so what if it gets quicker updates so does the gnex an I hardly use stock anyway.

Hey guys,
I am looking at getting a new phone and my requirements were:
1GB RAM
4.3+ inch screen
720p display.
The Galaxy Nexus caught my eye as it has all those things. I don't have a huge budget (£150, or €175, $225)But I am slightly concerned. Firstly because it is an old piece of kit. Now, that doesn't bother me if it performs well and gets the latest updates, but that's what I am worried about. Secondly because of Dev Support. I need a phone that will be supported for at least a year.
Please tell me what I should do. I am willing to buy a used device. If you think I should get something else, please let me know as to what device you are thinking.
Thanks!
Don't buy this phone.

Extend your budget go for a Nexus 4 or maybe wait for the next Nexus. Galaxy Nexus is a great phone but let's face it, it's been around for a while... And I doubt if it'll get official updates for the coming year

If you want it, then buy an extended battery with it and IMHO one should also buy the charging port flex board which may stop working anytime.
Whether or not it gets official updates, it will receive the custom ROMs. But then again why would you go for a 2 year old product?
Get the n4 or the n5 when it releases
Get the s4 or wait for new nexus at end of year.

Go for nexus 4.....though I'm not saying that Galaxy Nexus is not good, but it has now become somewhat old and won't get support from Google as Nexus 4 will get. Though you always will have support from the custom ROMs....but not stock ROM from Google itself.....so go for Nexus 4 rather than GN.

The n4 is old as well, considering the new nexus will be out in a few months, the n4 has been a blunder from day one an forgotten about due to its terrible launch an unavailability, so people just decided to boycott it an skip it altogether, lg have even said themselves it wasn't on the list of priorities to get that phone out, I don't think google would bother asking lg a second time to make another nexus with that kind of poor effort or attitude.

So here I am.
I have been watching a load of videos comparing it to Samsung flagships, HTC flagships and some weird devices made by a fruit company. The hardware has EVERYTHING I want for my upgrade. Almost double every spec to my current phone. My only concern is updates. Does this device have 4.2.2 Officially? Will there be 4.3 and 5.0 for it unofficially, if not officially? I need it to last for a year.
If you can answer my questions, I will be extremely grateful. My other option is the Xperia S, but it costs too much, bigger camera then I need and no official 4.1
Thanks Again!
Android 4.2.2 is officialy suported on the galaxy nexus and 4.3 will normally be that too but for 5.0 nobody knows.
And yeah I love the phone and it's getting old but it is still a good phone

Please tell me what I should do. I am willing to buy a used device. If you think I should get something else, please let me know as to what device you are thinking.
Thanks!

I bought mine a few months ago for exactly the same as your budget and I am more than happy with it yes it's old but not everyone can afford to get a nexus 4 and to be honest it's a bit to much like the iPhone with it's glass back the gnex gives you plenty of bang for your buck IMO

If you don't need the good cam, HDMI and so on, go for a GNex. As far as dev support's concerned there's no need to be worried, even the Google Nexus S (maybe the WFS too?) will get Android 5 (unofficially).

I've had mine for about 6 months and have tried just about every ROM and kernel out there for it and it's been great. I think you would be fine with it for a year or so with the support it has here.
Just wondering everything we know seems to suggest a "nexus" phone really, even if it won't be branded as such. I did not care for the LG version, so I skipped it but I am seriously thinking of upgrading to the Moto X unless the information posted so far turns out to be wrong.
Not on Verizon lol
Edit: for me, I like specs. This phone will not keep my interest with mid range specs. Maybe if I see the software on this phone with the Google optimizations, I might consider. For now, eyes are on a potential Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 smartphone.

Just being curious, why are you interested in the Moto X and not the Nexus 4, when both devices look really similar in terms of specs (the Nexus 4 looks even slightly better) ?
I'm thinking about the just announced Droid Maxx to replace my GNex. I'm waiting until I can hold it and people start getting them. Spec sheets are overrated.

I think my power button is going out so I'm sort of in the market for a new phone(thank god for volume wake/navbar screen off). As long as the price below $250, gets better battery life than our GN, I'm in. But I'm also curious if this IS the new nexus or if they'll be releasing another $350 Nexus with better specs later this year.

dancingtortoise, it's not a new Nexus phone: the Nexus 4 will still be in available for sale. We can probably expect a new Nexus phone for Oct-Nov 2013.
Yeah, I like the customization options for it, only thing holding me back (and only by a small bit) is the last year specs. That said, if the price is right then I'll pick it over the Nexus 4 and finally drop Sprint to switch to TMobile. Regardless, the Moto X price I think will be the deciding factor, if it's $200-ish then alot of people will probably get it just based on the hype alone. If it's $300-ish or more then I imagine it will fall more into a niche market.
I started with the original moto droid but I swore off Motorola after I got the droid 3. I was very disappointed. I used a fascinate in between selling the d3 and getting the gnex. I was running hellybean 4.2.2 and loving it, on a single core! The new moto phones look nice, but I will wait until the next Google nexus comes out, no matter who makes it. I just hope the phone comes out for Verizon too this time!

The Nexus 4 was too flimsy, heard waaaaay too many horror stories about build quality, easy breaking and lock ups. And anyway the hardware improvements were not a big enough upgrade to me, and I already had the software on my GNex. The hardware upgrades here seem more of an actual upgrade(i like the alleged 32gb option). Even though as before I will have to wait and see, and I will already have the new software upgrades since I am assuming this thing runs 4.3

From everything I have heard, and certainly this has not been confirmed, there will never be another nexus phone on Verizon. Ever. Google was pissed the way Verizon dealt with them on the GNex and supposedly has unofficially said they will never do that again. So at the very least you may want to think of a plan B

And what device on Verizon DOESN'T have a locked bootloader (GNex doesn't count)? The One when/if it hits? Well, if you like the One, go for it. Based on what was released earlier today, the Moto X/Droid line is far from "mid range specs". Hogwash, pure hogwash. The mid range spec thing was a rumor based on rumor. Motorola didn't say that and neither has any carrier. It was assumed because the processor was listed as "dual core" on FCC filings. Further, we haven't really seen the device in action yet. So far it looks like stock Android with a couple of Motorola widgets and some custom icons tossed in here and there along the OS. Looking at Motorola's X8 processor, it seems far from "old". Just because you read "Dual Core" online, it doesn't really mean a whole lot in this case. Is it going to be developer friendly? Probably not. But it depends on what you want. If you want to spend the life of your device flashing buggy roms and waiting for CM XX.XX to finally finish right as the next version of Android comes out so you do it all over again, well, then it's probably not for you. I think the X8 looks very intriguing.
For me, if it runs smooth, fast and lasts as long as my GNex does with my Hyperion then frankly it's a home run. I've always looked to Nexus devices to get the latest updates. Now, with Google's new APK's, that's less of an issue to me. Further, with Motorola having exclusive right's to develop the "Droid" line for Verizon and talks of them slowing down device roll outs, I'm thinking that this might provide opportunities for more updates (Especially with Google having a hand in Motorola now).
Don't like it, don't buy it. Personally, I moved to Verizon for the GNex knowing full well that it might be the only thing remotely close to "Nexus" that the carrier ever got. If it runs smooth with zero lag then that puts it up there with the One, and both will stand above the S4. Looking at a Spec Sheet is right up there with a redneck showing off their belt buckle size. People are duped into buying laggy crappy phones with awesome spec sheets every quarter.
Chase those quad cores that don't even have software and apps optimized to use them.
Do you optimize, bros!?

Noooooooooooo! That might be enough for me to move to another carrier. I just hate to lose my unlimited data.
Wasntv Verizon getting the different versions of the HTC one and S4 with AOSP versions of android on them?

Not sure but even if so, you could always buy a verizon phone, root it and toss pure Android on it You'd have to pay full price for that HTC one. Honestly paying full price for a subsidized verizon contract AND paying full price for a phone would just be silly.

Yeah, just not the moto phones with locked boot loaders That's what made me get rid of my d3. Well I'm happy with my gnex for now, we'll just have to wait and see. I don't see a need to get rid of it for at least another year. Even if we don't get KLP, cm or other ROM devs will keep it going for a bit.

From what I've read around the web.. Nothing official, of course.... The Moto X looks to be similar in specs as the Droid Ultra.
I don't know if Verizon cares or not, but there are a lot of g'nex users keeping their phones due to lack of a satisfactory replacement. Maybe that will put a little pressure on big V to have 1 nexus phone on their service.
Just dreaming....
