I have been contemplating leaving Sprint for their terrible data speeds and lost promises of a reliable and fast data network and now read about yet another attempt at an even faster LTE network rolling out capable of 1GB/ps speeds.
I never got a reliable Wimax connection, still dont have a reliable LTE connection.
Do I really want to hold out hope and wait again for a real working network or just jump ship now [END RANT]

Sprint Spark
Sprint Spark is a super-high-speed capability offering 50-60 Megabits per second (Mbps) peak speeds today with increasing speed potential over time.
Sprint Spark is a super-high-speed capability offering 50-60 Megabits per second (Mbps) peak speedstoday with increasing speed potential over time. Given Sprint’s spectrum and technology assets, it is technically feasible to deliver more than 2 Gigabits per second (Gbps) per sector of over-the-air speed.
Sprint demonstrated 1 Gigabit per second over-the-air speed on Oct. 30 at a Sprint lab near Silicon Valley, Calif.
I got real excited about this also since I'm in Tampa, but I have read in a couple places that you will have to have one 01 the new tri band phones . Iam thinking of leaving Spnnr de to the spotty service and am not sure if I want to renew for another two years to test this out

Yeah its pretty much useless if you dont have a triband phone.
And the only ones that are going to be triband so far are the Galaxy S4 mini, Galaxy Mega, LG G2, and the HTC one max....and I think some hot spot devices.
This is good news but im still jumping ship I'll wait till next year or so when they do have their network data on point and better tri band phones as to im not a fan of tge G2 or S4 mini or the mega or htc one max lol. T mobile is great in my area and they are at 20x20 mhz now so im just going to jump ship and get a note 3 on tmobile.

Sorry to burst your bubbles but it wont reach 1gps on devices..... if anyone thought that it may beat Verizons AWS LTE, in select markets. Go to S4GRU.com to learn more information, and upcoming devices, and network info.
No one really needs 1gps bandwidth on their mobile device unless you dont have internet at home even 1gps is still too much for that purpose. With that beign said anything over 100mbps for a mobile device is too much.

famous last words. I remember people saying that one needed 100MB hard drives either back in the 80's. Look at today.
And there is a push going for services provided by the cloud. I can see uses for more bandwidth, and even thought much. The biggest issue I see is more the limitations of the devices because of the hardware or software. Then again, I see smartphones just portable computers with phone service.
And even, and if, the service does hit, doesn't mean that the we're getting reliable and steady 1G throughput. I see it more as overall, we're going to be more bandwidth. And since it's suppose to be triband and switch quickly, hopefully that helps in the reliability, maybe even maintain, higher bandwidth.
I'm ditching Sprint as soon as my contract is up, fed up of no LTE in my area when everything else has LTE. Without wifi my phone is useless with slow sprint data speeds.

Greatest decision you could make, I know it's not the same for everyone and some people have great speeds with them but I friggin despise sprint so badly with their less than dial up like speeds, over here in Bakersfield, CA it's T- Mobile or Verizon or GTFO!

Well... While I think 1Gbps is unrealistic down or up at the moment for an individual phone.... I do expect the backhauls for Tri-band LTE towers are being upgraded to 1Gbps. Japan has proven that there's a market for it with speeds as high as 150Mbps down (per phone!) so I certainly believe we're slowly heading that way. In addition, by moving up to that high of a backhaul now it should potentially avoid serious upgrades like they are doing now for a few years at least.

To be fair...on has to remember why "4G LTE" is called "LTE". Because the actual 4G standard requires 1Gbps in low mobility applications (stationary, walking speeds) and 100Mbps for high mobility. The "LTE" moniker was created to bridge the gap until actual 4G tech like this came around.

Sadly I think we're still a way from there - even "LTE-A" will probably not reach that goal. Part of it is a lack of global 1Gbps global tunnels except in academia.... so even if you get 1Gbps local it may not do much if the file is hosted on a T1 equivalent line.
Considering what Comcast charges for their 100mbps service, I don't think that this will be something that will be covered under the $100 everything plan...
So this mean our Note 3 wouldn't have that capability?

They are? Network Vision?
Hello. lol
I don't understand the benefit to upgrading the 3G infrastructure so you can go from 1200kbit down to 1300, when the Verizon devices run LTE at 15-20 times that speed while standing right beside you. I've been spoiled with great 3G speeds around here, so maybe it's difficult to see benefits in shelling out increasingly sparse cash for anything but LTE.
It seems more of a "keep up with demand" and "pad the advertised metrics" game than truly increasing capacity. I've always been a pessimist but I'm genuinely disappointed with Sprint's execution with everything surrouding data delivery.
Looking at Verizon and T-Mobile speed tests as they exceed 25mbit/s =
But hey, Sprint is unlimited, so I get to experience the slow data speeds all month long!!
The rollout begins in a city that has a population of about 120,000. Sounds about par for the course with Sprint.
(Sprint Exec) "Hmmm rolling out LTE in the large cities is going to be hard and cost a ton of money."
(Lead Sprint Engineer) "Yeah we'll do those last."

Keep in mind that that is with a completely unloaded tower...
Sprint only has 10 mhz of spare spectrum in the PCS band, so before Clearwire or Lightsquared (if it gets FCC approval) roll out LTE, or Sprint decommissions the iDEN network, everyone will be using this small slice of spectrum. That means that each cell will be limited to a maximum of 40-60 mbps for all users to share.
Verizon uses at least 20 mhz of spectrum in all of its LTE coverage areas, so I don't think it's likely that Sprint's LTE will be able to outperform VZW's in its first year.
I love the "(At Least For Now)" nonsense.
I think I'll unfollow "android police" now.
Never see anyone make these type of comments directed at At&t or Verizon.
The fact is, even at their absolute best, Verizon and At&t LTE speeds were not even this fast.
However, I couldn't care less about having these speeds on a phone.
Anything above 10mbps is 'nice sounding' but honestly useless.
Keep it unlimited.
I don't know about you guys, but speeds like that are completely unnecessary. The speeds I get on 4g now is more than enough for everything I need, I'd rather have unlimited internet which I can use without worry, rather than have to deal with overages and etc.

I heard from a friend his RAZR was netting 20/15 at best which beats the hell out of the 1.4 upload im getting now which would be the only complaint. Seems like the average users upload is a bit slower around 2-5 but still an improvement.

Ok...apparently no one here has read about how sprint is going to use a multi-switching system on all they're towers. Which means, its going to free up a lot more spectrum and allow for much more capacity. On top of it, when sprint completely converts to lte network, even more spectrum is going to be available. That's why a lot of these carriers are going or have gone lte. (Long term evolution). Instead of sprint running at 1900mhz , they will run lte at 700mhz.

This video says you won't be able to use the phone as a hotspot at all. I wonder if they'll kick you off for hacking hotspot or if it will even be possible to hack it? I love how they compare minutes but don't mention that Sprint offers "any mobile any time" which makes a world of difference. About 3,500 any mobile any time minutes a month for me.

ATT and Verizon will give a damn when they start losing customers to t-mobile. T-mobile actually has a good network unlike sprint.
Tmobile actually has a pretty mixed up network. Outside of major metropolitan areas all they have is 2g or roaming (or lack of it) while sprint usually has native 3g (at least) or roaming on verizon. Service also degrades rapidly when you go inside buildings compared to Sprint and VZ not to mention the fact that T-mobile has quite the lack of spectrum to deploy both LTE and HSPA42+ on its current spectrum holdings.
Literally it's a mixed bag depending on where you live and what you do most like traveling or sitting in one spot. Just remember this. Sprints Network Vision upgrade is upgrading each and every tower to fiber or microwave backend. Their speeds are guaranteed to increase. Meanwhile T-mobile lacks spectrum in a lot of places and is currently in the process of refarming to 1900mhz 3g/4g (at last!) while lte is quite a bit away.
TBH i'd only switch if youre in an area with beyond horrible service and NV upgrades coming in a year or so...Other than that... ya it's great that t-mobile is getting unlimited again although in the long run sprint will be ahead of them.
Speaking of which... i'm starting to miss my good old sidekick lx and tmobile g1...

Isn't slightly over 2mbps the max for 3G speeds? If you're getting consistently over 1, I wouldn't complain. There are plenty of people elsewhere getting a fraction of that...like 10% of that.
I'd be thrilled with consistent 1-1.5mbps 3G speeds. I'm around Chicago, so LTE is in a few places which is nice, but I'm excited about when they finally upgrade the backhaul for 3G so the speeds will be better.
As for the OP, I would also try changing modems as well, see if some of them work better. Check with other NYC people and see what they're using. Modem can have a HUGE impact on speeds.

Having tried Att and Sprint....I got pretty $hitty coverage with both and this was living in the Bay Area.
For my previouscontract, I selected ATT based on reading the online reviews about them having absolute the fastest service. What the reviews didnt mention was that I couldnt get ATT service 10% of the time which got annoying real fast.
When it works...ATT and Sprint work great....but the 10% of the time you don't get connection, you'll wish you went with Verizon. They might be a tad slower based on the bandwidth test results online...but at least the coverage is more consistent
I will try changing modems, and see if I can get a better reception, thanks.

I don't mean Sprint 3G, I mean the technology limitations themselves. Even if I hop onto Verizon's network with a 3G PRL, I don't ever remember seeing anything over 2mpbs. I have plenty of friends and co-workers who have Verizon and I've never seen anything over that on any of their phones either.
Is it more of a CDMA/GSM 3G thing? Is GSM 3G faster than what you could get on a CDMA network?

On 3g (hspa+) I have seen as much as 12mbps down but average 3-5 . This is on our att phones.
Funny thing is though side by side we did some comparisons last year and web pages actually loaded slower on attempt s2 vs sprint s2 .. we never really found an explanation.

Have you considered forcing the phone to roam and having Sprint cancel your contract due to that? They shouldn't charge a ETF for that either.

Great way to get out of this miserable non existing service.. In NYC I can get between 1-3 mbps, this is acceptable to me, however where I live sprint is unusable 12kb D/L up does not exist. I called to complain and their attitude was pay the 350 ETF and you can leave.....Well I'm leaving w/o paying this fee..Thank you Roam Control....
Put a post on the marketplace offering to let another user assume responsibility for the contract. I know i would have considered a cheap s3 that way earlier

Sprint is actually getting better. With the softbank deal, Sprint controls a majority of the lte footprint. They are also getting an $8 billion cash infusion that will help them finish building out their lte footprint faster and at a higher quality. I know a few people that work for Sprint corporate. They have big plans and are actually executing those plans

I'm near Baltimore and over the past 11 years have had Verizon, ATT, T-mo, and Sprint. Each provider had pros and cons. I eventually stuck with Sprint (6 years now). They are the most reliable and ever present. Not the fastest but the only time I've been without service is in the Shenandoah mountains south of us where there is no service coverage by anyone. Sprint has addressed every problem I've ever had as long as I was patient with the rep. Oh wait I was patient with the reps from every provider and they bent over backwards to help me. A Sprint rep have my wife an iPhone for $25 during her last upgrade. We presented then with a problem on our bill and they hooked us up with the phone and fixed the bill.
I don't think any service provider is going to be perfect in all situations. I myself would pick reliable over fastest speed.
Just my opinion but stick it out things are changing with Sprint.

Does the the note 2 for T-Mobile use a custom sim card to get better speeds, I know it uses a microsim... But is there anything else to it thats different?
No the speeds rely on the modem installed.

Ahhh okay I installed this on my i317 How to Enable T-Mobile 3G/4G AWS Bands on AT&T Galaxy Note 2 SGH-i317! and was wondering if I needed a certain sim card or not... At the T-Mobile store their note 2 (T889) gets 28MBPS and mine at the same store gets 14MBPS, so it's lead me to asking about this...
Before and after the mod my speeds were the same... I might add.
I wonder if when they roll out with LTE if I'll need to get a new sim then or not?
Actually tmo network may prioritize some customer during network congestion. My understanding is post pay customers have higher priority over prepaid. Corporate store probably has highest priority for their demo units to make a sell.

I normally get between 5 and 8 mb download speeds. In the center of my town I can get up to 15 sometimes but if I go 2 blocks away its back to 5. Close to the huge shopping mall by me i can get up to 25 but again, that's in a very small area. There are definitely areas with better antennas but they are still few and far between for me. I remember when I upgraded from my Vibrant to the Sensation, that the Sensation was supposed to get better speeds because of the antenna, yet I never saw a difference. Speeds actually seemed slower most of the time. Now, with the antenna we have on our N2, I STILL see the same speeds as I did with my Vibrant in most places. This doesn't really make a whole lot of sense to me. What is the purpose of a better antenna if there are barely any towers capable of giving you the better speeds? So obviously the phones with HSPA and HSPA+ antennas are only capable of giving you faster speeds if the TOWER you are connected to is capable of it. Honestly, I'm not crossing my fingers for LTE because it seems like these 2 areas around me will be the only ones that have it and I'm rarely ever in those places so I'll just spend most of my time pissed off that I'm not getting the speeds I should be. Tmobile may have a lot of towers in my area but unfortunately most of them are CRAP! Every time I buy a new phone with a better antenna, I get the hopes of actually being able to use my phone during intermission at the Blackhawks game like all the AT&T iPhone people can. Yet it always stays the same.
I guess what I'm trying to say is it all comes down to the tower you're connected to. I've never been able to get a definitive answer on all this but it does irritate me that a TMO store could enable their phones to get faster speeds than the phone we buy from them. That's total BS if it's true. Besides, couldn't I just go in the store, run some speed tests and they claim mine is defective because it's not getting the same speeds?
