[Q] How to update ? - Acer Iconia Tab A100

Hi !
My A100 is rooted and the bootloader is unlocked. It has TWRP custom recovery.
It is running ICS 4.0.3 (image version Acer_AV041_A100_RV16RC02_WW_GEN1)
System Update wanted to install Acer_AV041_A100_RV22RC02_WW_GEN1
I let it run. It downloaded the update and rebooted to Recovery. Nothing more happened.
I found a 56.26MB zip in /system/cache so I wiped Cache, Dalvik Cache and System and tried to flash it but it failed.
I decided to restore from my nandroid backup to get back to the begginig.
My question is: do I have to remove TWRP ans revert to stock Recovery for the update to be possible ?
Thanks.

i may not recommend this update as chances for bricking are very high.
now why your update is not working?
whenever you unlocked the bootloader and installed twrp, it is very likely that you disabled (renamed/deleted) the file to run the upgrade. i think i have seen pio mentioning that to avoid bricking later.
probably other more experienced devs could give more clear answers and suggestions.

DO NOT install/update stock files on custom/and unlocked bootloader. It'll brick. You need to read pio's all in one thread about the A100, before you do any more. If you're wanting to flash stock firmware, you have to flash the A100 blob (bootloader) and flash the stock recovery first.

[Q]How to flash 1.29.401.11 after having installed CWM? [Solved]

EDIT: What the frick! -.- I fond the answer only seconds after posting this in a thread labeled something entirely different. Oh well. For anyone else looking for the answer to this, my below assumption is correct, aside from having to lock the bootloader again.
More detailed description in this thread.
Original post below:
--------------------
Right, so I rooted and installed CWM on my phone to get rid of that incessantly annoying menu-bar. However, only days after, HTC decided that they'd release an OTA to fix a number of things (internal storage space, for one).
Now, if I've understood this right, there is absolutely no way for me to install the OTA, since I've completely replaced the stock recovery. So what I've gathered from different threads, guides and god knows, is this:
- I need to fastboot write the old recovery back
- Lock my bootloader
- Let the phone update
- Unlock
- Install CWM again
Am I correct? For I am assuming that it's not simply as easy as to flash the new RUU ROM with CWM, since CWM can't access radio, for instance.

You'll find it in the thread I linked.
Or if you want,
1. Do a CWM backup
2. Relock
3. Perform RUU install
4. Unlock
5. Install CWM
6. Restore CWM backup
7 (optional). wipe cache and Dalvik cache
I use this method as your OTA method means losing root and CWM as Unlocking it after the OTA will erase your data partitions.

Yeah, I didn't actually need to lock the bootloader. It wasn't necessary. Flash old recovery, install OTA, reflash CWM, make sure root works, if not, reflash SU.
I ended up having to factory reset on the unlock again. Bad move

[Q] Help with New T-Mobile Jelly Bean OTA at Sammobile- T999UVDLI6

I flashed the T999UVDLI6 package to my phone but cannot seem to Root now. I have tried everything that used to work and Superuser will not take. has anyone else flashed and succeeded in rooting?
Here is how I got here:
I tried to update using CWM and it failed
I reflashed STOCK T999UVALH2 and then updated using Android Recovery and the full update worked
I have tried flashing via Odin 3.04 like always and the CWM mod will NOT take- all I ever get is the Android Recovery
Interestingly, if I try to flash Superuser from SD card using Android system recovery it gives me an :E:signature verification failed" message.
Any thoughts?
You must be fully stock and also have stock recovery... When I did it I used mobile Odin to keep root, and but you can use ota root keeper

I've flashed and succeeded in rooting, I did the same method as you described. Except I'm using Odin 1.85 not Odin 3.04 :cyclops:
Also, did you try doing a full wipe? I didn't see that in any of your steps. Might want to try that if you haven't already.

Yes- I wiped everything possible (data/factory reset, cache partition, and Dalvik Cache) and Odin would not load it which is why I ended up using the Stock Loader. I will have another crack at it

Okay, I retraced my steps and everything still works fine for me...so I did some things to break my phone a bit to see how this can fail, and came out with a few results.
Using Odin, uncheck the "Auto Reboot" option, I think this ROM will reflash to stock upon reboot unless disabled, it's a "feature" found in the Galaxy Tab 2 also. CWM 6.0 will take care of that, as they ask you to disable that "feature" upon reboot from CWM. Now, in order to get there, you need to go directly from Odin mode to recovery. So here's what I did exactly to get the results that you are asking for:
Using Team Win Recovery Project (TWRP Recovery), I wiped dalvik, cache, system, data, and factory reset, and then I opened Odin, unchecked "Auto Reboot" option, flashed T999UVALH2 back to stock, rebooted into android recovery, factory reset, reboot back into android recovery, flashed T999UVDLI6, and then rebooted into android recovery, did a factory reset, and rebooted into Odin mode, where I kept that same box unchecked, and flashed TWRP recovery. After it flashed, I unplugged my cable, and rebooted directly into the custom recovery where I flashed SU. Booted my phone and I have root access with JB. Now, if you don't want to use TWRP as your recovery, then you should use the latest version of CWM.
I was typing this as I was doing it, so I know for sure this works. At least, for my phone it does. Good luck and I hope this helps!
Awesome. Thanks for taking the time to troubleshoot for me. I will try today and report back

Please clarify
I am fully stock and using stock recovery and I am getting an error regarding :E:signature not being valid when I try to flash. I have applied OTAs that my phone received in the past. Dose this mean I need to revert back to the default firmware image also or is there a different issue? Thanks
I've been flashing OTA leaks with CWM. Both ICS and JB. I don't lose CWM recovery. This process is a lot easier than some people think. I have never needed stock recovery to update to the OTA leaks.
1) Stop using CWM v5. Its time to upgrade to v6.
2) Get T999UVALH2 on your phone. Whether you have UVALEM and use the official OTA update to UVALH2, or do a full install of it. You need UVALH2. I personally still had a UVALEM nandroid, so I restored then factory reset. Then backed up the clean install. Then I ran the OTA through the phone settings > About phone > Software updates. Now I had UVALH2. Guess what? Nandroided that, too.
Also, make sure you flash the UVLH2 modem if using another version.
3) If needed, get CWM on there through Odin. Or if you got a prerooted version, get CWM on there through other means.
4) Download the OTA update here: http://www.sammobile.com/firmware/?page=3&model=SGH-T999&pcode=TMB&os=1&type=1#firmware
5) Flash update with CWM. Upon exit, it will ask you about recovery and root.
Now you have the new leak, CWM recovery, and root.
CWM 6 did the trick. Still rooted and running JB

Restoring Stock boot.img & Stock recovery.img then taking OTA

I rooted using PurpleDrake...
That said my questions are:
If I restore the Stock boot.img & Stock recovery.img then perform a *full Unroot in SuperSU can I install the OTA without issue?
How about system files... Does PurpleDrake change them in any way that could cause the OTA to fail even after reverting back to stock boot, stock recovery and Un-rooting?
* not positive this step is necessary or will even work?
TIA to anyone with input!

Wondering same thing. How to get update, the reroot without having to do a full return to stock first.
Try it and let us know. As long as you don't have twrp installed you won't bootloop. If it does get hung up at all just battery pull and boot normally. At worst it won't take and you'll stay on c.
It worked!

Here's the steps that worked for me, your mileage may vary.
Made sure all factory apps were present and or defrosted.
Restored the factory recovery and factory boot image (thanks autoprime) with Flashify.
Then I restored "b1847cae892006ffa11c6822a408fe8528142a54.D85110c_00-D85110m_00_update.zip" to the Cache folder.
Re-Enabled OTA using dialer code for hidden menu.
Opened Settings > About phone > Update Center > System updates and was met with the Android System Update screen showing the update "Downloaded and verified 154.6MB", hit the "Restart & install" button and it rebooted to factory recovery installed the update without issue.
No data was lost, No reflashing factory "c" image wiping all your data and having to upgrade from there.
I did lose root but it took <2 minutes to get it back.
I know I could have waited for a TWRP update zip but I ran out of patience.

That is the actual "m" build OTA update zip file. Why not go straight to "r"?
The only reason I had to restore it was because I had deleted it in the 1st place.
Check your Cache folder for any update zip that may be waiting already.
I did it this way only because I was too impatient to wait for the update zips to be posted here.
But now they exist...
Here is a better way:
If you are already rooted go Here > http://forum.xda-developers.com/tmobile-lg-g3/general/firmware-t-mobile-lg-g3-t2818667 and follow the TWRP instruction for flashing KK builds D85110 C, M, R Untouched_Stock_Restore.zip or even Lollipop D85120B
This will allow you to go straight to "r" skipping "m" all together.
If you are feeling brave and competent you could go straight to Lollipop...
Be sure to also flash SuperSu and TWRP after flashing the restore zip and before rebooting or you will lose root and your custom recovery.
Good luck!

Thanks for the lengthy explanation. Can I verify if what I'm trying to do is same as what you've done? Here's my situation.
- I have the stock LG 4.4.2 KK rom for D851. Not stock AOSP or CM or any other "custom ROM".
- It is rooted and have TWRP
- The only thing I've really done to the rom is to debloat - used Titanium to freeze lots of apps that came with the LG rom. I have not deleted any since I've read before that if you delete them, it will make it a pain to upgrade to newer Android versions.
So I've learned the hard way trying to update my phone from 4.4.2 to 5.0.1 LG rom.
- I took the OTA and tried to install it. Big mistake. I ended up in a TWRP bootloop. Had me cringing thinking I just lost everything until I found this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g3/development/fix-stuck-custom-recovery-trying-ota-t2907508 and fixed it with LG_G3_Flash2FixStuckRecovery.zip (flashed it with TWRP). What a godsend it was. Got me out of bootloop and I didn't have to do factory reset or anything. All my apps and data are intact just the way it was before I began OTA.
- So now I'm back to where I started originally before attempting to OTA to Lollipop.
If I'm reading correctly, what I need to do are:
- Unfreeze all apps
- Restore stock recovery (recovery.img) and boot file (boot.img) - this essentially reverses root and custom recovery. Use Flashify to do so.
- Flash the stock LG Lollipop update (btw - the phone says that the new ROM is already downloaded and ready to go but there's nothing in the cache folder... is there somewhere else I should be looking?)
- Before I reboot - I should flash SuperSU and TWRP which restores root and custom recovery
- Reboot phone, cross fingers.
Somewhere in the middle, am I reading that you need to restore LG stock Kitkat rom first (which I already am on), then update to Lollipop? I'm reading that from this part "This will allow you to go straight to "r" skipping "m" all together. If you are feeling brave and competent you could go straight to Lollipop..."
I'm confused here...
One last thing - Once I'm upgradded to Lollipop, is there an easy way to freeze all the apps I had frozen before instead of going one by one? I have the paid Titanium version but I can't figure out if it has a batch/mass freeze feature.
Thanks!!
No, sorry but you are way off base. I think you either did not read my post carefully or you totally misunderstood what I was trying to say.
You don't have to do the steps I did, they are not necessary with the files available at the linked post below.
Yes you can go straight to lollipop but for someone like yourself I would reccomend downloading and flashing KK build "r"
If you are already rooted go Here > http://forum.xda-developers.com/tmobile-lg-g3/general/firmware-t-mobile-lg-g3-t2818667 and READ THE ENTIRE OP CAREFULLY then follow the TWRP Files/flashing guide for flashing KK build D85110R-Untouched_Stock_Restore.zip
*Be sure to also flash SuperSu and TWRP after flashing the restore zip and before rebooting or you will lose root and your custom recovery.
This will at least update you to the last build "r" of Kit Kat
Lollipop for the D851 still has some bugs to be worked out but you can flash it if you want.
You are on your own now...
Good luck!

I appreciate all of your advice. The thing is, I'm trying to upgrade to Lollipop... I'm already on Kitkat and not really interested in upgrading to a latter dot version of Kitkat.... It just seems like a difficult proposition to do OTA upgrade if you rooted and have non-stock recovery. Since I'm on tmobile d851 stock Kitkat (rooted with frozen apps), I should've never put put TWRP. I thought I might put custom ROM on it but never got around to it and since you pretty much lose wifi calling with non-Tmobile ROMs, I just never did... More of a pain now....

Please help....How to wipe everything out and start from scratch?

Hi All,
I have been having some issue with one of my box, it is rooted running stock version 51.1.0.1 .
i have completed the following steps of the rooting process.
1) block updates on router
2) rooted (installed towleroot, supersu, busybox)
3) disabled update on AFTV box via adb command
4) Unlock partial bootloader
5) installed latest CWM at this point fire tv restarts but does not boot up in to CWM recovery.
I can get into CWM via Alt + prntscr + i using my keyboard. i did the wipe data/factory reset thru CWM and it clean up everything i rooted again installed CWM and it still wont boot up in CWM so may the firmware is corrupt?
What should i do? Should just flash pre roted rbox ROM and installed Rbox boot menu and see if i can get in CWM or should i wipe everything from AFTV and start again.
How do i wipe everything out using CWM? I read a lot tread on xda forms but didn't see a detail guide, i would appreciate if someone could give me all the baby step in exact order i should perform and if you could use the same terminology that is used in CWM menu that would be great, please.
Please note i have rooted at least 8 box before (updates blocked, rooted, bootloader unlock, install cwm, installed pre-rooted ROM and Rbox manu) so i am familiar with the process but one can always mess up.
Thank you
You're approaching this in a differnt angle than I'm used to--is there a reason you use stock firmware? With custom recovery, I'd venture to say a factory reset will do what you want it to and performing it will give you a clean slate and though updates will try to download they won't install.
I do this but I run rbox firmware...
1. Reboot recovery
2. Factory reset in cwm
3. Confirm it (this will wipe user data)
4. Reboot system
This should get you back to the registration page. You'll lose EVERYTHING except su. First thing I do is pm disable updates again. Once that's done you should be good tonset it all up--install busybox, all your apps.
I just worry because I use custom ROMs and never did this with stock. On your average android device keeping stock firmware wouldn't bother me but aftv is a little different since there's no doubt they don't want you rooted with custom recovery. I'd go to the dev threads and ask questions or flash prerooted ROMs. You might want to update incrementally as some have reported issues when they skip updates, not critical but it might be in your best interest.
And of course when I refer to updates I mean preroot not stock.

Hi,
I did the factory reset from CWM i forgot to mentioned this on intial post, sorry about that. It went thru the whole process, i re rooted and everything but again after installing CWM aftv did not boot in CWM so i thought maybe i should wipe everything out and start over instale fresh stock firmware.
Maybe the fireware is corrupted or the partition. I tried to down grade and upgrade to stock version but AFTV wouldn't installed the updates.
For me go get in CWM using ALT+PRINT SYS+I option is really pain full, after trying if for a 3 days and spending at least 2 hours each day i was able to get in so i thought start from scratch would might work.
thank you

If I'm hearing you correctly I think I know your problem. You can't flash stock firmware with cwm. Rbox has protections in place thatbwont letbthis happen and for good reason--doing so could brick your device. You need the preroot ROMs. Follow aftvnews starters guide because I only had to do this once and I'm not certain I remember exactly. I think there's a certain version you should start with and some users find its better to update incrementally.

Unlocked Bootloader, Root, TWRP on 7.1.1 and want to flash 7.1.2

Hello Friends,
I am a born again flasher (haven't since Galaxy S4) so forget how this works...
So if I'm not doing a major update, is it safe to no wipe flash the update without restoring anything?
In other words, with my device as is, NOF27B + rooted + twrp, I can fastboot flash N2G47E stock and be good to go? It'll be stock with my user data no problem?
Or am I suppose to first unroot and no wipe flash NOF27B stock before no wipe flashing N2G47E?
Thanks for your help =]
To answer myself in case anyone else finds this thread when searching for the answer to this, I found the reassurance I was looking for in this thread: http://forums.androidcentral.com/google-nexus-6/581841-how-can-i-get-ota-updates-while-rooted.html
In short, it is safe to just flash the stock factory image over a device that is not stock.
