Hey everyone. I tried rooting using Heimdall on my Mac, but apparently did something very wrong. I can still boot into download mode, but when I turn my phone on I get the initial logo, then a black screen. Any help to get my phone back up would be greatly appreciated!

If you can still get into download mode.. you're not bricked..
Give me a little more info on what you tried to flash.... as well as what Android version you were on... and if you had or were trying to get cwm recovery on the device via heimdall..
No worries... we'll get ya back up and running... just don't get flash happy and try something until myself or another member can confirm it's right..
I'm going to assume you were following a guide for rooting with heimdall... link that guide so I can look at it..

Ok, no more flashing until I hear back from you. Thanks for the reply! I'm actually not sure which version I was on. I know, big mistake.
I initially used this guide goo dot gl/LZt2l3 but I couldn't get the terminal version, so I flashed the kernel via the frontend. It appeared to work, and rebooted, but I was getting a "samsung galaxy s2 gt-i9100" boot screen and then black. So I tried flashing back to a stock kernel I found. Now it shows the right model number, but still goes black.
Thanks again for the reply. Looking forward to getting this mess I made fixed.
Will I be able to fix this with my Mac, or do I need to try to find a Windows machine to use?

Ok... no worries... as I said.. if you have download mode we can fix this...
You flashed the wrong model and bootloader I believe... so it messed up you're partitions...
What you want to do is Odin a one-click from rwilco's repo...
Give me a few minutes and I'll hunt up the links for you... I'll also link you to a good heimdall guide..

I actually already have those files. I think that was the last thing I tried flashing to fix things, but I was unsuccessful. I actually download two different files, so I have the following two:
2) Download the GB27 One-Click self-extractor of choice

Ok... read through this guide and see if it tells you anymore info.. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=878686
If you followed the protocol for flashing with heimdall correctly and still have issues... we might need to use Odin...
As you have flashed the wrong firmware.. I believe you will need to repartition when you flash..
Let me know... I'll be on xda.. all day, until we get you up and running...

Thanks, you're awesome. Of those two files, should I use the stock or the rooted version?
A couple of things I didn't see in the tutorial:
1) How to repartition (assuming I need to), and
2) Which files to flash. I have a lot more files than listed in the tutorial, so should I try to flash them all?

The Heimdall one click method does not seem to support the file type that I downloaded for some reason. I can use the regular Heimdall frontend app though. Then, should I just flash all the extracted files? There are 10 or so of them.

I think you can flash all of them or just a select few... but if you can get a custom recovery on at the least... we can boot to it...push a couple zip's over and flash a rom from a safe recovery.... I'll explain more for that if we have to go that route..

Okay, I think I have good news to report. I'm booting now...basically. It's staying on the 4G screen for a long time, but eventually boots. Well, at least the first time it did. I just tried again and it stuck on the 4G screen.
I can still get into recovery though. Should I try flashing a custom recovery using Heimdall? If so, where can I get a compatible recovery?
Progress is good! Thanks!

Did you use the rooted rom... if so.. I would try to go into recovery and wipe cache and reboot to see if it boots up... also.. is it stock recovery, I can't remember what that one click comes with...
If it's stock and we can't get it to boot... then we will have to heimdall a kernel/recovery..remember our recoveries and kernel's are tied together on this device...
If this is the case.. I think we can find you a custom recovery/kernel and heimdall it and then flash a rom from it... after you push the zip's to you're internal storage..

Ok... I would go to rwilco's repo and get a gb27 kernel that has a custom recovery and flash it with heimdall..
Even if it doesn't boot.. we can atleast push a rom zip and gapps to you're phone and the el26 kernel(safe kernel for flashing) and then flash the rom/gapps from it..
I can look and point you to the right kernel if you're not comfortable looking yourself..
I flashed the MK3 modem, then MOAR v9.0.1 and lost my 3G data.
There are other threads here discussing similar problems.
Some said that the person lost their APN and suggested typing *#06#. I did that and got my MEID (it was not all zeroes).
Every time I type ##72786# now, i get the "SCRTN" screen and it reboots all by itself.
It rebooted, and when it came up again, it started going through the activation process. During Hands-free activation, I get the "4G" icon. Ditto for when it updates the PRL, but the icon disappears when it says it needs to reboot (and it never comes back...)
When I type ##786#, I can view RTN information.
When it comes back up, still no data. What am I missing?
I called Sprint to have them do a "data refresh" or "re-provision". Still no data. I'm stuck. Please help.
Have you tried flashing the mk5 modem? Or updating the prl?

Updating the PRL fails.
The only thread I see with an MK5 modem is for Virgin Mobile/Boost here. I can't use that if I'm on Sprint, right?
Isn't there something about zeroing out your MSL/MEID and rebooting?

Well here is instructions to unroot and then root......keep philz recovery...folllow these...then follow directions after....

how to root
http://qbking77.com/samsung-galaxy-s-iii-2/root-samsung-galaxy-s3-android-4-3-jelly-bean/
You have made it back and hopefully rooted once again....go into recovery and flash the philz recovery....do not restart after flashing.....you can go to advanced menu and should be option to reboot to recovery.....once back in philz recovery now.....go to wipe data/factory reset...in this menu choose clean to install a new rom.....then flash any rom.......and gapps if required...some roms need gapps others have it included....read flashing instructions on any rom you are on....
Hope this helps
stock you can do the ##72786# it helped me then i had same issues you had....philz recovery saved the day.....
there are lots you can do with your phone...so....make sure to read and research...and follow all developers instructions.....happy rooting

Root66 firmware is in my thread in development section, link in my sig. Youll find instructions for Odin there and all over the place with a quick search and from the sticky threads. Flashing any recovery or kernel trips the warranty bit. No way around that and no way to reset it I'm sorry to say. Since you've flashed recovery its likely tripped already so flashing kernels and roms won't make any difference anymore. The binary counter doesn't matter as its easily reset. But if you have a custom kernel or recovery it'll retrip to 1 every time you boot.

You can flash Any of these roms via Custom Recovery TWRP and you will do fine.
Do note, some people have mentioned that with a 4.2.x or 4.1.x Roms, sometimes their IMEI goes missing. So take a Nandroid and EFS Backup before hand.

Perseus mentioned the nv (efs) backup before. Easiest way to protect yourself is open a terminal emulator and enter this.
su
reboot nvbackup

Perseus mentioned the nv (efs) backup before. Easiest way to protect yourself is open a terminal emulator and enter this.

reboot nvbackup

How did you do that??

If you mean you made a nandroid backup, that is completely different and does not include any of the NV data. The backup I mentioned is intended to protect you from ever losing your imei in the first place.

I used this method.
Ok , first, never use anything you find in the international models forum for any US model. They are very, very different devices. If you made an image from mmcblk0p3 as stated in that thread, you actually made a copy of sbl2 I'm pretty sure.
Also, the imei, (the important thing here) is not actually stored on the efs partition as it is in some other devices.
Run the command I posted before for the best solution. If NV corruption is ever detected, it should auto restore from this backup during boot up.
And again, stay away from the international forums. Most of the info there will not apply to our devices here and many, many people have bricked due to that mistake.
And delete the backup you made. If you were to try and restore it to your device after updating it at some point, it would most likely cause a brick.
OK thanks I'll get on that . I flashed a remix ROM and everything seems good right now. I'll try to back it up today.

Read up on Kit Kat, you might not want to upgrade. You will lose write access to the SDCard. There are ways to then fix it, but you could lose function in some of your apps. Samsung finally adopted the Android specs for write access.
I cannot get my Note 2 into recovery mode. I am able to get to download mode and have tried installing a few different ROMS through Odin. The install results in a "Pass" but the phone does not make it past the Samsung boot screen. I have tried a few of the suggestions on different postings in the forums but haven't had success. I am somewhat new to the rooting community and am in need of assistance with this, I am getting nowhere on my own. Thanks in advance for any assistance you all can offer.
You didn't mention if you ever flashed a custom recovery.

Sorry for the lack of details. I am sure I made a rookie mistake but heres the process that got me to where I am now:
I was rooted on 4.3 (used CF Autoroot). I was attempting to upgrade to 4.4.2 using EZKat's zip file, installing it from an external sd card throuh recovery mode. I did get that to take, but was having issues with the Samsung keyboard crashing (I now know there is a second file that fixes this, but got that info too late). So thinking I had made a mistake at that point I attempted to revert to the stock 4.1.2 rom, which also took. However, I then got a notification for an OTA update, and I went for it (probably a bad choice?).
The OTA update completed but on the reboot it started hanging at the Samsung logo. And that is where I am stuck now. I can get to download mode and Odin still lets me flash roms and gives me a "Pass" but the phone never gets past the boot screen freeze and I cannot enter recovery mode to factory reset or clear cache.
Thanks for your replies, I appreciate any assistance you have to offer.

The first file is a 4.3 rom you can flash but the 2nd file is the bootloader and when I did the ota from 4.1.1 to 4.1.2 you have to flash that mk6 bootloader to make it boot

Just use cf auto root and make sure you get the right recovery and put it in the pda or ap slot in odin or you can flash a stock custom rom that's rooted already like the one I'm on

Note 2 I sent out of state is also stuck. I had downgraded to 4.1.1 to root it and left it there. It did work for a little bit, but not now. Will just flashing the bootloader file do the trick or do we have to flash the ROM too?
If it won't boot on 4.1.1 you might have to go up to 4.3 or 4.4.2 to make the phone work again I tried to go back to 4.1.1 and I couldn't get it to boot but I didn't try flashing the bootloader but it won't hurt anything if it don't work
Hello developers and users,
I wanted to unroot my tablet but I accidentally deleted the OS but am still in the TWRP recovery mode. I wanted to try using a different root on the tablet but didn't know how. Is there a way that I can still flash the stock ROM into this device despite me deleting the OS?
I have a T-800.
Just flash the backup you made with twrp or boot to Download mode from twrp then flash the stock firmware.
Did you try to wipe in twrp and flash stock with Odin?

Yeah I did, and initial tab screen keeps popping up but no more. I tried to flash the stock rom and nothing.
