Why I hate the Note 2... - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy Note II

It's so damn good I have no compelling reason to upgrade to another phone at all. Thanks a lot for curing my new phone itch

I agree completely! It's the best phone I've ever owned, by far. And with Android 4.3 coming, I simply don't have a compelling reason to re-tool (batteries, cases, etc.) as a result of buying a Note 3.

I bought a Note 3 and ended up returning it; while it was a nice upgrade, particularly the screen, it was not compelling enough for me to justify the expense (paid full price up front), especially with the Knox efuse issue on the N3. The upcoming software update for my trusty Note II sealed the deal.

I had a Nexus 5 is my cart and decided to just continue using the Note 2 I recently picked up. I love this thing!

That makes two of us. Google helped me decide by selling out of the black Nexus 5 16GB at my moment of weakness. I am glad I didn't bite.

Glad you guys find it ok. I'd feel the same if my GPS could get a lock and if I didn't have the Call Log issue with calls not showing up unless I hold the phone in Horizontal mode.

Must be problems with you rom

only thing that botters me is the screen wake lagwhen in deep sleep. I think its unacceptable for a flagship device.
but its not a dealbreaker since i don't change.... All the rest is soo good

I feel the same. I want a nexus for software but I think I would have regret about screen size and battery life. All the optimization in the world can't make up for the battery size gap.

I owned both and to be honest have not touched my note 2 since I got 3. Love note 3and all it features.
NOTE 3

I love my note 2 I got a zerolemon 9300Mah battery and the screen is irreplaceable to me I could never go to something smaller again.

I'm glad to hear that, I thought long and hard about upgrading but in the end decided it really wouldn't be that noticeable for the amount of money it costs. Besides from what i've read we get better battery life anyway

Same here. I actually bought a G2 and ended up returning it quickly, just couldn't get over how small the screen real estate is compared to the note 2 (plus it was surprisingly laggy for a new flagship).

I love my note 2. I'm not sure I want a phone without a removable battery or sd card. I make my old phones into dedicated gps units after they've aged. It's cheaper getting a spare battery occasionally then new phone when the battery is toast. I continue to use our old droid 2's for gps. I'm a truck driver and having a truckers specific gps is a life saver. The nexus 5 would be great and a ton of fun but no removable battery and no sd card make it tough to say yes to.

Well I think no one is saying the Note 2 is better and of course everyone of us would use the Note 3 over the Note 2 if we have both. But I most of the people here are saying that the price of the Note 3 does not justify upgrading based on the different features each phone offer.
I, for one would love to have the Note 3 over the Note 2 but not at the price that I have to pay for the "extra" features. I will have to wait for the next version since I can see doing most of the things the Note 3 can do once we get a firmware update (or new roms to flash).

Gave the Note 2 to my wife. The Note 3 for me is a major improvement over the 2. I'll upgrade her N2 when the update hits... Of course the upgrade for the N2 will include Knox so there is no way getting around that. We now have root access on the N3 the doesn't trip the Knox counter so that's a non-issue now.

Looking for your opinion from original Note users...

I currently have the original Note running CM10. My phone is a work phone and I have the luxury of getting early upgrades from AT&T. They have offered me the phone at $199.00 if it want. You folks have been using your phones for a bit now, any original Note converts think it wasn't worth it and in hindsight don't see that much of an improvement?

+1 for battery. last through the day note like the Note 1. smoother and better wise
I got lucky with a craiglist deal and got it earlier than I expected. I was going to wait for a coupke months. The biggest upgrade to me is the 2gb of ram.
If can wait for a better deal I would wait. Personally my excitement level wasnt as high as the original note. But all in all this is the best device on the market.
I owned a dna droid for about 2 weeks foe testing and htc in my opinion is still playing catchup and next to the note 2 its looks washed out specially if your a fan of amoled display.

I still have my original note (being used by my brother) and weve done some side by side tests the note 1 just doesn't compare to the note 2 not even in the same league
I had the note 1,and I'd have to say the note 2 was worth the upgrade. The note 2 just so much faster and more options than my note 1 by far.I would say get the note 2 definitely,or if you can wait there is talk of the note 3 coming maybe in jan, feb, with a bigger 6.3 screen.I'm kind of disappointment, if I new the note 3 was going to come so soon,I would of waited.
I sold my original note for 360. I got the note 2 for 199. So basically a free upgrade. No regrets at all and battery life is 3 times better than og note.

Funny, saw a thread in the i-717 general discussion board the other day, and it was like a thread for people trying to convince themselves they weren't upset they couldn't upgrade to the Note II. Don't get me wrong, my original Note I was an amazing phone, but the Note II is definitely in another league as difficult as that seems. It's more portable, Jelly Bean/Project Butter/Nature UI makes a world of difference, better hardware internals, significantly better speakerphone, an actual multi-color LED notification light, better call quality, and a battery that is so vastly better there's no real metric to compare it to. Not to mention the better camera and list of extended photo-taking features the original Note doesn't have. And if you're someone who actually likes the S Pen, there's no comparison between the capabilities and build of the new S Pen, over the crappy one on the OG Note. All of this, and there's still a bucket of other enhanced features I've left out. I have no regrets making the upgrade, especially since it virtually cost me nothing.
The Note 2 is a huge upgrade. Battery life alone is the selling point. If you can get a deal GET IT!
I had my doubts upgrading from note but trust me. .. it feels like night and day and I had my note highly overclocked.
Do yourself a favor and waste no more time thinking about it and make the jump

No regrets here...JB + quad-core + 2GB ram makes the device so smooth. Also no issues with blobs and such!
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using xda app-developers app
The Note II is an entirely different league. The new S Pen itself is much easier to hold compared to the one included with the original Note, the battery lasts quite a bit longer, and the software actually takes full advantage of the S Pen instead of feeling like it's bolted on -- for example, features such as Quick Command, Air View, the new S Note app that replaced S Memo, etc.
Don't get me wrong, the original GALAXY Note was a great device, but at times it left things to be desired. With the Note II, the whole experience just feels better and more intuitive. It's definitely worthwhile upgrading in my opinion.
The other posters have said pretty much everything. I'm also a Note 1 to Note 2 convert. The Note 2 is a tremendous improvement over the original.
Prior to switching I wasn't keen on the form factor of the Note 2 (GSIII shape and home button vs the North American Note 1 w/o home button). What really attracted me to the Note 2 was what I had seen/heard/read of the speed, smoothness and battery life. All were true. What surprised me was how much better the Note 2 was in all of the above areas. What surprised me even more than that was how much I actually like the form factor, home button and all.
With my Note 1 I had two main complaints: speed/lag and battery life. I purchased a slightly higher capacity battery to address the first issue, but was waiting on the JellyBean update to see if that would improve the speed and smoothness (hopes weren't high on that one). I knew that the problem was with the number of things that I was running, but to me that was the point of having a 'superphone.' Battery life and speed were fine when the phone was used lightly, but if screen brightness was turned up, multiple pages full of widgets were set up, various Samsung enhancements were running, and LTE, WiFi and Bluetooth were on then performance was lackluster and the unit ate up the battery like there was no tomorrow.
I can use the Note 2 as advertised, without having to worry about turning off/disabling features in order to save the battery or eliminate lag. This phone spends its days with motion enhancements, Bluetooth, LTE, WiFi and sync (email, etc) on all the time and still gets me easily through the day. It's astonishing. It shouldn't be astonishing, but modern phones have us trained to think that it's not reasonable to expect a full day of 'full' use.
Long story short, the Note 2 is definitely worth the upgrade.
drop the $ and come on in...the water is fine! You'll never regret it!

It's funny that you mention that, because coming from both the GALAXY S II Skyrocket & the original GALAXY Note I thought the same thing about that "stupid little home button" (as I referred to it at the time). But after actually using the S III and the Note II, it's actually nice to have a physical button that you can press to return to the launcher, or even just turn the screen on really quick to glance at a notification (since capacitive buttons can act wonky sometimes.)
Note 2 no doubt. Most powerful phone out on the market with outstanding battery life. Feels great in hand, yet perfect aspect ratio. 64gb external storage. Quad core....
Holding off on the deal is just a loss of value on the 1. If you love the original, the only thing you will regret is that you didn't get the note 2 sooner.
Start tha new year off right.
I dont always talk online, but when I do I prefer xda premium.
Thank you all very much for taking the time to respond to my question. My XDA brothers have spoken and I read you loud and clear! I will be starting off the new year with a Note 2.

[Q] Is now a bad time to buy?

I'm in the market for a new phone. I've been looking between the Note 2, SGS4 and the HTC One. I'm kind of leaning towards the Note 2 but I'm concerned that it might not be the best time to buy one of these. Thoughts/suggestions?
why would now be a bad time to buy the best phone on the market?
I'm concerned how well the phone will hold up over the next two years. I don't want to get left out in the cold because I decided to buy the Note 2 instead of the SGS4
it hasnt been out for 2 years, so no one can answer that question...
OK, let's simplify this. You were up for renewal, choice is a Note2 (assuming you dont own one) or an SGS4. Which would you choose?

I couldn't wait and got the gnote2 a couple of weeks ago. I sold my gnote first and that covered the cost with the 2 year contract. So I'm happy.
I got it at Walmart since it was a lot cheaper than at&t store or online and just 10 more tjan amazon and I didn't have to wait 5 days even with amazon prime, weekend I guess.
My thinking was the s4 might drop the price of the note2 a bit but the note1 is stikl 200 at at&t store.

It all depends on your budget and your need. If you're on the road constantly then the Note would be best for you because of the big battery. Again it all is dependent on your type of usage as well as budget. If money is not an issue I'd say the s4.

I'm going to recommend the Note 2. I just installed CM 10.1 and have underclocked to 900Mhz and the device still runs as smooth as I need it to day in and day out. Keep in mind that 900Mhz is nearly half of what the processor is capable of.

Until concrete numbers are in I'm going to say the Note 2 just on battery size. Lets face it doesnt matter what ohone you have, with no juice it's ni good. Note 2 has 3100 mah and S4 has 2600 mah. Biggest difference for battery comsumption is screen but the difference in battery size doesnt make up the difference.
2600 for a 5" LTE phone is terrible; my wifi SGP 5.0 was "ok" with 2500; my original AT&T Note kinda ok with an aftermarket 2700. Bleh.
It's always a bad time to buy a new phone.
There will always be a new one coming out or just around the corner. ..
Your on the Note II forum. ..so expectations and answers to be more positive for it than any other.
Right now. ..this phone is still the best for those who want a big screen. .fast cpu..plenty of new roms/themes/add ons and have a Spen to use.
Others have their own strength and weakness as well. .so figure out what you really want. ..and go from there.
Being stuck with this phone for 2 years isn't a problem. ...if it has what you want and need really. ..it's just not going to be the latest version out soon. ...BTW plenty of folks still use their Note 1's....
Ask yourself what you need. ..as opposed to what the companies are promoting as the next big great thing...because this is how they rope folks into always wanting something new.

[Q] Note 2 or S4

Hi All
At the moment I am using HTC Sensation but am due for upgrade (3UK) Dont like HTc at the moment had lots of problems so thought I would give Samsung a try.
I have never had a Samsung phone so am undecided about which to go for. I like the screen size on the Note 2 and from what I have heard the battery is great (HTC Crap) I use it for internet a lot and email ,when i have my Tablet I would use it to tether if this is possible with the note. Watch some video nd use word documents.
I can get either the Note 2 or S4 as free upgrade so any advice would be appreciated as to which is best. My main requirement is battery, the HTC I had to carry two batteries to last the day...
Thanks all.
Battery - undoubtedly go for Note II. No second thoughts there. Hands down has the best battery life of all phones except Droid Razr (which lacks quite a few features of N2).
If you like the screen size, and battery life is your priority, it's a no brainer IMO.

I've just had to make the sane decision as you. I'm also in 3 and I decided on the note 2 for screen and battery and after a week I made the right choice. After it being off charge since 7am this morning it's now 8 at night and I have 52% left.
I just made this decision, went with N2. It's already ready to go development wise and you don't have to worry about new phone hiccups or wait a long time for a proper portfolio of accessories. Plus the bigger screen, s pen, and most likely better battery make it worth it to me.
But if you're a stock ROM guy, really want 1080p res, or want the new CPU architecture, then S4's the way to go.
Buy a note 2...no contest here. Its got nice screen, big screen, big battery, s pen and just about all s4 software features are coming.

My words exactly!
3 UK have now discontinued the Note 2 on their website........
I've had this same question roaming around my mind for a bit now. Since T-Mo is ending contrancts if you want to end and go on your own. My wife and I are eleigible for an upgrade in June.... not free but if we get a new phone T-Mo is making changes where we would be paying about $20 a month to pay off whatever phone we choose, and that will actually still be cheaper then our plan now. I was thinking about waiting it out for the note 3 but I honestly don't have the patience for that. Went in a T-Mo store yesterday and dude told me it won't be until November most likely until the Note 3 get dropped. I can't wait that long..... I'm getting the Note 2 over S4 and probably sell it in September or October and use that money to get the Note 3.
Notes are big, almost too big but from what I have read peeps love them. Probably take some time to get used to them but I'll learn
Yeah, the size was initially scaring me too, but I got used to it real quick and now would definately miss the screen estate on a smaller device.
Actually the S4 felt like a small toy when I tried it in a shop (also due to low weight).
I admit that it's slightly (again, slightly - and I've not got the biggest of hands either) awkward to hold at times, but the positives by far outweigh the cons for me. I'm a big time reader (mostly comics ) and watch movies on my device. My hands get tired like hell while using tablets and my eyes hurt while using the tiny sized devices - Note II hits the sweet spot for me And I don't have to camp near a recharge socket either.
Bought a s4 for my wife yesterday and played with for 30 min.
Just 1 thing: note2 is better believe me BUT s4 has a good camera tbh xD

Two is better than one, Note II, waiting for Note 3...

i got tired of note 3 big screen and didnt even use the pen for 6months. this G3 is fantastic and LG operating system is close to android stock.
I bought my G3 a week ago (M-Mo of course). It's a nice phone but the on screen navigation kills it for me, there's an option to hide them on an individual app basis, but they are slow to reappear when swiped. I knew the onscreen navigation was going to be a problem, but I took the plunge anyway.
I rooted to get a volume mod, and while I can now hear, those I'm speaking with complain of distortion.
The USB port it a ***** to get inserted. I know it's just my phone 'cause I've seen zero complaints otherwise.
I't going back next week and I'll be waiting for the Note 4.
Just me .02 cents.

Anyways I upgraded from a Note 3. Which I love. And yes G3 is as close to stock android as you are going to get. But I've always loved the Super Amoled screen and I still have my Note 3. The colors just pop and the blacks are dark. Can't beat them Samsung screens. It is not much smaller than the Note 3. And I'm on stock and the G3 has this laggy stuttering at times when moving from screen to screen. The back is slippery as heck unless you get a grippy case. I was using the Note 3 naked the last few months and that faux leather backing felt great in my hands and secure. Hope this helps a little bit. Might sell the G3 when the Note 4 comes out though.

I'm afraid that if I wait until the Note 4 comes out, that KNOX will be such a bigger issue that it was with the note 3. That's the only reason that I'm considering the JUMP.....
The only the thing I think the note 3 has better then G3 is battery life other then that the G3 gives close to a stock android experience with extras to it
I just made a migration though importing call record and texts can be tricky.
It's smaller than Note 3 yet the screen is 5.5".
I really like "tap to wake" feature.
Sound is a bit louder than Note 3.
LTE reception is better than Note 3 too.
The lag and jitter are present no matter what you do from time to time. Does the note 3 lag? I would probably switch when the note 4 comes out. BTW I love the onscreen button , don't understand what's not to like.

I kinda thought that, but if I make this JUMP now, I will nit be able to upgrage again until February. So I'm thinking long and hard before I make my decision.
I jumped from the note 3 and haven't looked back:good: I absolutely LOVE this phone.
I jumped from the note 3 too. The battery life on the note 3 was very slightly better in terms of usage, but the standby on the lg g3 is way better. I hated the chrome guards on my note 3 it started scraping up the first couple days of having it. I also hated touchwiz and the camera on the note 3. The camera was okay on the note 3 but it seemed really inconsistent. I stopped using the spen about 5 months of getting the phone. Overall I have no regrets jumping the only thing I really miss on the note 3 is the usb 3.0 cord that charges the phone really fast.
Jumped from note 3 as well love the g3 so far haven't regreted it.
i wouldn't. 2 more months and you can see what note 4 will offer. you should wait

I'm just going to get STRAIGHT to the point......should I JUMP from the Note 3 to the G3?
Is there anyone here that have had the T-Mobile Note 3 and upgraded to the G3. If so, how is the G3 compared to the Note 3?

I came from a Note 3 as well. I also HATE the Navigation bar. It reduces the screen real estate (I also hate Samsung buttons). I disabled it and use pie which works amazing.
I've been a long time user and fan of amoled and there is a difference between the screen on the N3 and the G3. For now I prefer the screen on the G3, I got tired of the over saturation.
The battery is about as good as the N3 for my usage.
G3 feels a lot smaller. Has a better feel in the hand.
And I find the LG's skin to be better than Touchwiz on the Note 3. I dislike Touchwiz so much.
I don't think I'm gonna be installing CM on this phone if it ever comes out. It's fine the way it is. Of course I rooted it and have xposed installed.
Nexus ONE
Me personally, I haven't used the pen that much either but touchwiz is way too bloated. I agree with you @Actionx1 I totally hate the navigation bar but that is a great alternative. I have a gut feeling that the Note 4 would not be worth the upgrade. I dont know why, but I have a feeling.
I jumped from the Note 3 and got a lemon the first time. A few days later after returning it, I decided to give the G3 another chance. So far, really liking it. But, will probably get the Note 4 since I really like the Note series and hand me down the G3 to my dad.
Try out the phones. Forget specs and looks, try out the UI. That's my golden rule.

I switched from the Note 3. I like the G3 because it feels like IOS (which I love) combined with Touchwiz. I love the screen though I wish it was brighter and Super Amoled. The 3 gigs of ram is awesome. The battery life could be better. There are little things that are going to take some getting used to. So far I like this phone and I'm gonna hold on to it until the note 4 or iphone 6 comes out.

Note 4 or Note Edge

Hi everyone. I just wanted to make a thread and see how many people were jumping ship to the newer devices. And why?
Note 4? - Is it really worth the upgrade right now?
Note Edge? - Is the new curved edge display gonna be functional enough being that it is completely new tech?
I'd like this to be a spot where we can debate differences, pros, and cons. Really just looking for other people's input because I'm really torn between the Note 4 and Note Edge.
Also my Note 2 is still in perfect condition, runs great, and does everything I need it to still. So I'm also deciding if I really need to upgrade or not. Decisions, decisions ?????
Sorry if this is in the wrong spot.

I am making the jump. I think the edge will end up like the Mega forgotten about shortly after its release.

Thank you for your input ?
Right now the only selling point for me with the Edge is just that WOW factor when someone does see you have it they'll probably be like "woah what phone is that", because of the edge screen.

Yea it has the wow factor. But they displayed the phone a year ago when they talked about the galaxy round which never made it to the U.S
I can't help myself...
I want a new phone every year. I know that some need to change even more often, but I get trapped into thinking I "need" the better screen, camera, etc. I love the Note product line. I've had all three. I have to say that the Note II was by far the best upgrade, so far. In fact, to be honest, going from the Note II to the Note 3 had as many downsides as upsides in my opinion. From my personal experience, the camera was not better - it had more features (mostly useless), but the autofocus did not function as well as the Note II. I had more blurry pictures on my Note 3 than ever on my Note II. You start to realize that once you get a good camera, the upgrade to higher MP isn't as important as having a good camera that just works. That was one of the letdowns I had with the Note 3. The other is battery life. First of all, the orignal Note had a horrible battery life and I thought that was just going to be the price of having for an enormous phone with a great screen. but the Note II solved that issue in spades! The upgrade to the Note II was worth it just for the battery life alone. The Note 3 on the other hand was a pretty serious downgrade in battery performance... at least from my experience. Which brings me to the topic of this thread (finally)...
I'm very concerned that the battery life will take a step backwards from the Note 3 to the Note 4. The screen on the Note 4 is unbelievable, but there is a price to pay in the battery. I find it crazy that the battery size was not bumped up to accomodate. I know they stated in their intro that it was something like 7% more battery efficient than the Note 3, but I don't think THEY even believed that, because it was just thrown in at the end. Instead they spent time talking about how they made it faster charging. I don't know about you, but I don't want to plug my phone in during the day, every day; even if it is only for 30 minutes for a quick charge. Battery life is just too important to me, as I learned from the original Note and I don't want to go backwards AGAIN. the Note Edge has an even slightly smaller battery and the extra screen that seems to have an "always-on" feature. I'm even more worried about that one.
Hmmm. Maybe I'll sell my Note 3 and buy a Note II and pretend that is my annual upgrade. HA!
FYI, last weekend, i saw the edge at best buy's on display on friday in san francisco. i went back on monday to see it again and it was removed.
Just setting up my edge right now, coming from n1, n2 and n3. Loved my n2 the best. Just got it a couple hours ago, but it's cool. Was going to get a n4 but they were out of stock.

I plan on getting the nexus 6 in a few months. I like the shape of it. Dual front facing speakers. Pure stock. I don't use the s-pen often. I have had the original note now the 2. I use straight talk prepaid AT&T Sim so the international 6 will be a perfect fit. And by February I may find one a llittle cheaper. I like the note series but the nexus 6 has the bigger screen and less crap and no TW. And I dont have to root it to have a pure stock android experience. I like the note 4 but I just like the N6 better.
