[Q] Boot Loop, can't open recovery. - Galaxy Note II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm totally stuck, help out a newbie?
Verizon Galaxy Note II
Running CM10.1
Here is my story:
I installed perceus kernal, Jelly Beans 19, seemed straight forward enough, so decided to install CM10. I was more than I really wanted to do, so tried to reverse and re-install stock firmware.
I followed the instructions to the letter. Did a full wipe. Flashed the PIT file and the firmware in ODIN as directed. Now I'm in a boot loop hell, can get out of it. Don't have CMW loaded. I thought TWRP would work, but isn't loading. Tried to re-flash the file again, and a few different versions, but am not getting failures. Tried to boot to recovery and clear the cache, but it won't start with UP/HOME/POWER (is there another method?). Tried to flash CWM6 in Odin, but get a failure.
Trying everything I can find, but I'm totally stuck. Any tips would be much appreciated.

I got it!!!!

So NEVERMIND! I re-flashed the fireware (without the SD card installed), and got it to boot to recovery. Cleared the cache, did a factory reset, rebooted a couple more times and the loop stopped. All good! Back to square one,

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1896696 read the Original Post. Follow the number 1. Stock rom installation.
And remember. Dont tick repartition when flashing in odin. Do you have your stock firmware?
Remember also that STOCK KERNEL is the most stable kernel. Hehe.

Phone stuck at Samsung Galaxy S2 load screen...

I was running Strongsteve's blue rom and wanted to update to his latest version, so I wiped my cache and delvik and used CWM to install. When I rebooted, the phone never got past the SGS2 boot screen. I took out the battery and rebooted a bunch of times with no luck. I was able to get back in to CWM by holding pwr and up, and I reflashed the rom with no luck. I had Blazer's rom on the internal drive already and flashed that, but it still hung at the SGS2 boot screen. Now, I can't get back in to CWM and I can't charge my phone. I can still get in to USB mode but i've never used it before.
I rooted using auto-root, and i'm going to try using ODIN but i'm not sure what i should flash on there if i can even get my computer to connect to my phone...another ROM, the stock ROM, zedomax root? any advice?
i think i'm gonna go with the stock rom (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1479677) but not sure if there's other steps or things i should be doing instead...please help!
If you hold the power button + power down, can you boot into download mode?
yes...
i'm going to try odin but i'm not sure what file to flash...any thoughts?
Find the stock tar file in the epic 4g touch development. Someone just posted one not too lon ago. When you flashed the update did you follow all instructions to a t? I have run into similar problems because i thought skipling a step wouldnt matter.

As long as you can get into download mode, you're good.
Use this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1383678
yeah i followed the instructions but something must have gone wrong. i'm going to try odin when i get home...i'll let you guys know how it goes. thanks!
one more question...do i need to flash the kernel too?
Keep in mind, if you flash the EL29 listed earlier, it will disable the reset ability of the USB jig (will still get you to ODIN D/L mode, just won't reset ODIN flash stats)
I suggest you flash the pre-rooted EL29 ODIN One-Click in my signature, but it is up to you.

THANK YOU GUYS FOR ALL YOUR HELP!
Just a quick question..
Can you avoid all the above steps if you do a nandroid restore? I thought if I just did a nandroid restore and reflash from scratch I should be goodl. I did a nandroid back up when I rooted with the stock ROM and figured if I ever ran into problems I could retore and start fresh? Am I thinking about this the right way or do I need to go through the steps above when/if I get stuck a the boot screen..thx
For all who like to flash. Get md5checker from the market.Use it love it. Never flash a bad ROM again. Saves alot of headaches and time. Not to mention clutter.

You are correct. As long as you have custom recovery.
btw it might have been a bad download. grab the md5 checker from the market like the guy above me a couple posts said. also redownload the rom if it is.
Phone stuck at logo screen
Hi, pls help..
Yesterday i have try to root my phone and today i have decided to restore to stock firmware.
As i didnt backup my files, and i try to restore by following this website from cnet.co.uk
after restore, my phone stuck at logo screen...
I can't turn off my phone nor entering download mode and boot screen.
:crying:

Can't seem to install custom ROMs

Sorry for the somewhat long post, but I've tried a lot to solve this problem. So the other day, I tried installing the Paradox II Love ROM from Juggernaut 5.0 and followed its instructions exactly. I used both the Super Wipe and Kernel Cleanser and the steps that followed. After my phone rebooted, it would load the new kernel and then immediately reboot into recovery mode.
So after failing to work a few more times, I decided to try Darkside Digital Warfare. Again, the kernel would load, but then this time, it would just get stuck on the kernel logo. I waited over 20 minutes, and it did nothing. In the thread for the ROM, apparently a few people have had the same issue. A possible solution was installing a different kernel. I tried several, and it continued to have the same problem.
So I decided to use my nandroid backup, which didn't work. Something about an md5 mismatch I think. So I decided to try and reflash Juggernaut 5, and that ROM now wouldn't load. So I try GBaxeEX which I was using before Juggernaut and that just reboots to recovery.
So far, all that works are stock ROMs or ROMs that are close to stock. Right now, I'm using a debloated ROM and have no problems. I've found I can load custom kernels, so I'm using Darkside Xv1.
I've tried using Odin to go back to stock before flashing new custom ROMs, I've tried manually wiping system data in recovery before flashing, I've tried not using the Super Wipe, and I've tried redownloading the ROMs in case of an error or incomplete download. I've also tried initiating the install from ROM Manager. My phone just refuses to accept custom ROMs anymore.
Any advice is appreciated. I've been flashing ROMs since the Vibrant first came out and have never had a problem like this.
Try running tdj super wipe. Then flash your rom of choice. I highly recommend darkside rom!

Like I said in my original post, I did try the Super Wipe and have tried it multiple times since. I've also tried using the Super Wipe and formatting system data in recovery.

You may have to ODIN back to stock then re-root. After that get CWM and start flashing again. This should work.
What I learned from my Vibrant days. If everything else fails, Odin Stock and start all over again.
BTW. Small hint. Use ROM Manager to create a .zip for CWM, rename it update.zip. Doing this will allow you to go directly from Stock recovery (volume +/- and power) to flashing without Rooting the device. Just load stock recovery and install the created update.zip by selecting Install Update. First flash of update.zip will go back to Stock recovery, second will load CWM.

Again, this was something I tried multiple times and was mentioned in my original post. I was able to fix the md5 mismatch error thanks to a few other XDA threads, so I've restored a previous backup for my Juggernaut 5.0 setup.
Update: Since restoring a previous backup, I've successfully flashed Darkside Digital Warfare. However, Paradox II still refuses to install.

[Q] Few Issues

I flashed from CM9 FF18 to Calkulin Gingerbread through CWM.
I went through the process of wiping with the zip file, installing rom, then installing the bare rom.
My phone works fine except i can't install anything through the play store. (Error 492)
-I tried to fix by clearing data of play store... No dice.
- I tried to factory reset, but for some reason it just hangs when i try to, after 10 mins i just hit back.
-I can't get into CWM Recovery. I get to the CWM 5.0.2.7 screen but i can't access any menus!
So at this point i'm stumped. IDK if i screwed up somewhere, but not sure what to do. I can get into Download mode and into odin, but not sure what i should flash or even if i need to.
Before this i have flashed cm10 and cm9 no problem.
Any help guys?
id get a rom thats flased with odin and just start over....

Might sound like a dumb question, but i'm having a hard time figuring out how to ODIN a rom. i've only done it through CWM
I know i need a PDA/Phone/CSC file correct? Where do i get these?

Get the reset data version. You don't have to fuss with individual files.

[Q] I wished upon a shooting star... and this brick still isn't fixed.

Hi xda,
I ran into a problem I've never faced today. Before you start assuming, I've done my research. I've searched all over the forums, tried multiple solutions (none worked) and... potentially permabricked it?
Rooted for 7 months, running Jedi Mind Tricks v5.1 Android 4.0.3
How it happened: Today I noticed my phone running really wierdly. It would crash apps constantly, which didn't happen yesterday. So I put it on *close all apps after exiting* on developer options and limited it to run 2 background apps. Throughout the day, my phone would just restart out of absolutely nowhere: in the middle of a text, after unlocking my phone. Each time progressively got shorter between the restarts. It would also freeze a lot of the time. This never happened before today. Maybe a freeze or two, but not this bad.
Did a few battery pulls, no dice. Then this is where it gets worse. The time between boot loops were from 1-2 minutes now. I was getting pissed, so I decided I needed to wipe it and install a new rom. I enter recovery mode CMW 5.0 and do an initial factory reset. Half way through, it crashes again. Now all it does is vibrate constantly until I turned it back on into recovery. Launches recovery. I try to super wipe it. Half way through, crashes again. I try this several times in conjunction with battery pulls. Doesn't work.
I pull sim card, SD card and battery out, let it rest before I reset it.
Then I tried to Odin its ass. I bricked it into the yellow warning screen about a updated system error because I fail with Odin. I searched around to find a solution. I redid Odin to stock kernel it. When it revived, it went into the loading screen. Yes! Progress! It was 99% done with loading when it froze on it. Fml. Battery pull, reboot, and it goes back into its habitual boot loop pattern. I can still access CMW, but it still crashes when I try to super wipe/wipe it.
I have to fix this because, well I bought this from someone with no warranty and using a no contract provider.
Help?
UPDATE: I was able to successfully superwipe my phone, then reinstall Mind Tricks as the rom of choice onto it. It doesn't freeze. Simply bootloops again and again. I don't know what to do.

Firstly I suggest upgrading your recovery to 6.x via odin. Then superwipe. Redownload mind trick fresh, flash mind trick, wipe data/factory reset via recovery and try to boot letting it settle for about five minutes. If this fails, flash back to stock via Odin to rule out hardware faults.

Good suggestion but better yet ...... I had the same issue on cwm.... get twrp 2.2 look for the flashable download....... 2.3 has a few bugs so stick wit .2

Definitely get twrp on it. Flashing twrp solved 99% of my problems running cm10. Zero rr in weeks. If I were you I would go back to stock for your device. After confident its running like it should. Then root and and go nuts.
I've personally never really had to pull the battery, very rarely. I'm worried about your ram. Could it b corrupted? A short somewhere? All unrecoverable.
I wonder if you could somehow mount your device using Linux. And run memory tests or drive diagnostics.(just thinking out loud).
Twrp is definitely a must. Good luck

Try doing complete wipes and reflashing a different more stable rom and see if it happens again. There are scripts to do complete and total wipes just to make sure you get a clean install (kind of like the others suggested) atleast yours can turn on so your not hard-bricked.
That's great how you guys are saying twrp solved your issues! It's really funny when cm10 supports cwm recovery. But op, let me see if I still have mine.

Thank you guys for all the suggestion. I was able to finally install CMW 5.5 on Odin, then go to 6.0 through flashing it. Then I super wiped it several times, normal wipe data/user settings, Darkside super wipe, then install Jedi Mind Trick X, super cache wipe, mount system, then rebooted. It worked for several minutes before locked on boot loop again.
Can someone post the link to TWRP touch for flash? That would be awesome.
I've also been thinking if it could be an external hardware problem and not a software problem. How could I run the diagnostics like you had suggested?
Thanks!

my sgs2 did this last month i did the same you did. after no fix i installed a cwmtouch through odin just to be able to restore a back up and worked flawlessly. After that i switched to TWRP again flashed it with no problem through odin and my s2 has been working fine ever since, but fyi i updated twrp to its 2.3.1.1 version and now i get errors can still restore but cant flash jb roms and can only do dirty flashes of ics roms
I'm currently in the process of trying to flash twrp. Is it uncommon that when I went into recovery, it also boot looped on me several time?

Left it off for 10 minutes. Came back, it started running through initialization. About 4 minutes in, it crashes again. I'm starting to think this could be hardware problem.

Do not use scripts with the new CWM 6 as it will cause this. Manually wipe everything and do not use scripts. You can use scripts with twrp but not the latest cwm

Stuck on Noterized rom and aosp. Battery life is horrible.

Hi, When I got my Note 4 it had stock lollipop. I was happy with it and it had great battery life but I wanted xposed so I found a tutorial for sprint note 4 lollipop. after i flashed xposed my phone got stuck in a boot loop and i didn't have a backup. i tried to Odin back to stock but that kept failing, i gave up and flashed noterized rom through TWRP. now i want to got back to stock or at least get a different rom (maybe Vision or hybrid i tried both) but i tried flashing a couple of different rom but they never work, my phone just keeps rebooting (goes to "Samsung galaxy note 4 powered by android" screen and then restarts i tried waiting 30 mins but no luck) however i am able to flash an AOSP rom but i don't like them i really like TW. what can i do to restore to stock, downgrade to 4.4.4, or flash vision rom?
for battery life i tried restarting, factory restore, clearing cache and dalvic cache, and formatting everything and re-flashing the rom but nothing seems to work.
if you have any question or need more information please ask. any help is appreciated

Youre stuck on Noterized. Enjoy.
No way out? What if somone gives me their back up?
I was stuck i tried different stock tar files from different sources. Finally found one that work the other tar files kept failing in odin. Your not stuck just go online and find the solution yourself . If it's not affecting anybody else they careless if you fix it man and that's with life too just sayin . Good help hard to come by nowadays
Might wanna go through the Q&As and rethink your post. As to avoid contradicting your post all together, could you at least provide a link to the file that got you unstuck to help in the first place.

so what I did was root using odin installed twrp from the playstore and flashed the twrp recovery from the app. once I had recovery I flashed a stock rom from the forum in twrp. that booted up fine then I hooked my phone into the pc and open kies to see if it reconized my phone and it did so I hit the tools tab at the top of the program and clicked on firmware upgrade and initialization and it stared updating my phone back before the oel update

I have a update I flashed off of stock and went back then flashed cm12 and the method I used earlier didn't work I was stuck for 2 hours. I flashed a tw rom in twrp when it finished installing I pulled the battery and flashed the modem from bob firmware and bootloader before I restarted the phone I found a bootloader and modem from bob firmware on the forum flashed both and both failed but from what I cant tell it installed enough for the phone to reboot on back on tw and from there I used kies to get back on stock 2nd time bringing it back very long process just finding the right solution

I personally havent been on OE1. A few people who havent been plagued by this horrible and unnecessary update have been trying to help those who have and are. The guy i mentioned at the bottom(of the post you quoted), those were his steps. But it seems some of the information has changed since that post. Look above this post and he explains the differences whether on TW or non TW rom.
One thing Samsung is telling us though through their actions, if theyre pushing out updates and its not over a GB, i wouldnt take it, or I'd at least wait until seeing the ramifications of the update through other users taking it, which there will always be.
