Hi guys,
I've noticed that my galaxy s4 mini 3g comes with a 1000 mA (1A) charger and it charges at a very good speed compared to when I plug it to an ordinairy USB port (500mA only I believe) on the desktop.
It gets warm after a while while charging using the official samsung wall charger (1A)
I plugged it in my battery bank where the output is said to be 1500 mA and it charged up much faster but gets a little more warmer in the back.
I have an ipad charger here rated for 2.1A but I haven't tried it yet..
I want to find the fastest but also a safe way to charge my phone in order for the battery life to become longer before I need to buy a new one. So I want to ask you guys here in the forum what chargers do you use?

For the battery life to remain long you should stick with lower amperages. The 1A charger should do you fine. USB ports are typically 0.5A, unless its a USB3 port which gives more amperage I think.
I've used a Mega 6.3 charger on the S4 mini before (2A).

So I was wondering: is there a difference in charging speed between the a/c wall charger and charging from my computer's USB port? Also, what's the difference between different chargers? For example, the Desire comes with a charger that puts out 1 amp. My girlfriend's BlackBerry has a micro USB charger as well, but the output is 700 mAh, or 0.7 amp. I've seen chargers ranging from 500 mAh (0.5 amp) to 1200 mAh (1.2 amp). How does this equate to charge time? Does it even? Or does the phone regulate the charge rate?

You've pretty much answer your own question!
The current supplied by a charger/USB port determines how fast it can charge the battery, which is why the wall charger (1amp) charges much faster than a PC USB port (0.5 amps).

It's almost completely logical.. say you have a 1.5A battery (1500mA) and a 500mAh charger (ie USB) then it will take 3 hours for it to charge but with a 1000mAh charger it will take an hour and a half.
Can't really explain it more than that, so hth.

This is only partly true ......
If you charge it on the PC , max output is 0.5 amps , and data is possible while charging .
Now with Desktop and car charger , the amp can be anything the manufacturer likes but you have to keep the following in mind :

So if your Desire ( Yes , the Desire supports these specs ) detects the short , it will switch to fast charging mode otherwise it will limit the charging current .
Unfortunately , there's no way to know , just by looking at a charger, if it respects the specs or is just a low cost 5V powersupply . I've encountered quite a few ( mostly lowcost) desktop and car chargers that are rated between 1 and 2 amps , but still take bl**dy ages to charge the phone . Checking those with a measuring tool , you usually see the data pins are "Not Connected" instead of being shortened :-(((
Final Word .... don't try to save some money on a cheap charger , you'll regret it Genuine HTC works great , others do the same , but don't expect a $1 charger from Hongkong or whereever to do it !
These are the theoretical specs. Keep an eye on charger efficiency ratings and battery charge absorption won't be 100% in any case. Also bare in mind the charge is not linear, it will trickle after approx 80-90% with this phone.

Ya, I noticed the charge slows down considerably for the final 10-15 %
I find myself charging my Desire more than I actually use it, lol.
I found now the answer to this problem: I use a Nokia charger (5v and 890 mA) with a microusb adapter. You can find one on eBay at ~2$
Now it takes about 2 hours from 20% to 100%
Lets hope nothing wrong happens to my precious Desire

hi. the battery charger that i got with my LG optimu G Pro is ****. its just now that i checked that i have been deceived
its chinese copy and its only 0.2A charger...
now i know the reason why my phone charges soooo slow...
anyways. i think Note 3 and iPad air charger are 2A and 2.4A. so can i use iPad or Note 3 charger to charge my phone? will that be ok?

Use OEM LG charger with 1.2 output. I am using LG G2 OEM charger and it charges very fast! But not sure it's compatible completely

If youre tech savy you can make your own,you just need a switchmode 5v regulator (they usually put out up to 3 amps) and you put a resistor across the data pins (i think 100 ohm) and itll charge the phone as fast as it can safely charge. I made my own charger for the car and the phone gets fully charged in about an hour and a half. (With screen on and playing Bluetooth music). Other wise if you buy a charger, get as many amps as you can. Atleast 1.5+ . and to make the phone charge in AC mode if it only says USB you need a resistor across the data pins.
Thats funny... my G Pro came with a 1.8a LG charger, my G2 came with a 1.2a.
Yeah you'll be fine. The "extra" amperage in the charger is available capacity that your phone can draw from, it will regulate itself but that can also depend on the charger and how they pin the USB. Its different than if you have extra volts (like a 10vdc charger which would provide too high of a voltage and damage electronics). I usually charge all my phones at when I get home with my wife's iPad charger super fast. Likewise you can use your LG charger to charge the iPad but will be slower since it has less amp capacity to supply. Part of the reason they provide the bigger charger is to sustain battery level while using the device (It should be large enough that the battery doesn't drain while your using the device while plugged into the charger).
Most computer USB ports typically provide .5a of power and will be your slowest charging option, at best you get a newer laptop with "high capacity" ports and it provides only 1.0a.
I've been using an iPad 1st gen charger with GPro since day one, been working flawlessly for 4 months now. Charges fast.
I have a couple of generic chargers I've been using with my note 2 for a couple of years. I realize these will charge slower than the samsung fast charge charger but is there any reason we can't use them or will they impact battery life (I would think they would increase battery life); i supect the answer is that they are fine but maybe battery technology has changed and there is some 'smarts' between charger and battery that would be damaged by these ?
No issue using your old charger except as you mentioned it won't be fast charging. I do not believe that the fast charging will hurt the battery. The fast charge only works for the first portion of the charge then the rate of charge slows to a trickle charge.
U can use any charger but i recommend to use any charger with 2amp output as it charges quick 40% in 30 mins insteas of 50%in 30 mins with original.
Original charger has two modes 9v and 5v it charges with 9v untill 50% and switches to 5v after that.
I think the unit i use is a sanyo 800ma 5 volt. I don't mind the slwo charge as long as it can't harm the battery. This is only used during travel and office; @ home I use the charger that came with the device.
You can definitely use another charger. Like said before it wont charge as fast. The adapter that comes with the phone will charge your phone at 9v instead of the normal 5v. If you use a different usb cable with the charger it will still charge at 9v. If you change the adapter, it will charge at the normal 5v whether you use the another usb cable or the one that came with the phone. The usb cable is just wires. The wall adapter is what determines how fast it will charge...

I just bought an Galaxy Tab S (8.4) from eBay but it came without any charger/cable.
As it is a Micro USB port, there's no real problem, I have literally tons of usb chargers available.
The problem is that most the chargers/cable I used only charged the battery at a 0.3A rate (measured with an USB voltmeter + battery app).
I know that the original charger was 5.3v 2A. I tried with some powerful 5.0v charger (3.0A/Quickcharger 3.0 compatible from Anker) but no luck so far...
Is there a specific charger/specs know to work well with this pad ?
I'm using this aukey 3.0 compatible wall charger and so far it's charging as expected
How fast does it charge ? I only get 0.3A with this charger, which charges really slow...
0.3A is 300ma i am surprised the battery charges at all at that low rate, My 10.5" draws 1700ma from my third-party chargers according to my usb monitor, I have managed to charge it as low as 1000ma from my notebooks usb port, but you need a charge only cable as a data cable will not charge at all.

purchased a insurance replacement from flebay it came with a samsung quick charge plug ,is this the same as a htc quick charge or shall i buy a htc type ?
The Samsung Quick Charger I believe only supports QuickCharge 2.0 while the HTC 10 is QuickCharge 3.0, so it will get the job done just not as fast as a 3.0 Charger. It pulls 5v while the HTC charger can pull 5v, 9v, or 12v.
It should be ok but the only difference is the 2.0 will charge a little bit warmer. Should be relatively the same speed as 3.0 but just get a bit hotter. So there shouldn't be any issues
Quick Charge 2.0 and 3.0 both charge at the same maximum speeds.
The difference between the two of them is that Quick Charge 3.0 allows for smaller drops in voltage as the battery get more full, allowing the charger to remain closer to its maximum charging speed for longer.
Instead of dropping right from 12V to 9V as the battery fills up, it drops from 12V to 11.8V to 11.6V etc.
