I'm very interested in starting to install new roms on my rooted htc one. I'm just worried about losing all my contacts and music. Just curious on how much u lose when u install custome roms. Please help
You can export contacts saved to your phone to a file on your sd card, or they will sync through Google.
As long as you don't wipe your internal storage when you flash a new Rom, etc. you won't lose your files. Only thing you lose it's app info...unless you back then up with titanium backup.

Hey, sorry I am poor at this. I am running leedroid and I can't find a guide on upgrading the rom.
I want to upgrade to his latest release as of 18th Feb. I don't want to lose my phone contacts, pictures, apps etc.
What do I need to do?
I've used mybackup to backup my photos, data etc. is this enough?
Now do I drop the latest zip file on my sd card, go to rom manager an install it?
If so do I do a clean wipe or? If so, how do I then get my stuff back, just redownload mybackup an restore?
Many thanks to anyone who helps me.
ok so here's my situation....my EVO has a loose charging port and the power button is failing so i took it to sprint and they ordered me a new one...so i figured i would just nandroid when the new phone got here after re-rooting it and i would be good...but then i got to thinking that when i downgraded my hboot version from .97 to .76 i couldnt restore my previous backup because i switched versions...and i plan to root using the unrevoked method and i would assume they would install the lastest version of CWM witch would make my backup unusable right??...
Basically i just need to know if i would be able to restore my backup from my memory card right after i root it or if i need to jump through some hoops to do it...or if i just need to flash CM7 clean and start all over, which i would rather not do...so if anyone can give me an answer it would be much appreciated and i will give said person a kiss *muah*....hahaha
thanks in advance
I'm 99% sure that this would not work...nandroids have to be from the same phone, not just same phone specs/firmware
Even if your recovery would allow you to restore the backup, I wouldn't do it. You run the risk of restoring the wimax partition from the old phone on the new one, essentially borking your wimax. I could be wrong, though.
I would backup all of your user apps + data with Titanium Backup, skip the system stuff. Make sure you've synced everything to Google. Gather the rom you like & any addons, then run unrevoked. After it's done, flashing, restoring, and setting back up shouldn't take too long.
exactly what plainjane said!
Ok I guess I get that...but would I be able to advance restore just my data after flash my rom and kernel?...so I have my apps and data in less than 5 mins?

Just be careful but this should be fine. You may be better off using an app like MyBackup *root* which is free in the market to backup your apps and app data.
I have used it to move apps from rom to rom, and a new phone would be no different.
For apps...back them up via titanium backup, and you can restore them to a new/different phone
For contacts...open your contacts/people app..while looking at your contacts, press menu and choose "export to sd". This will create a file in your sd called 00001.vcf which contains your contact list and can be restored through contacts/people on any rom
Root your new phone, flash whichever rom you want...put your old sd card into your new phone...install titanium backup and reinstall your backed-up apps. Open contacts/people... press menu, import from sd card. Profit

Hi everyone, here's my question:
I backup'd the stock rom before installing a new one and now I lost my contacts saved on phone (lol.)
I want to install another rom, after I install it, can I just copy files from the old stock backup to CM9? Where are they and it will work?
Thanks, Thegatorade

hi
you made backup with CWM recovery, aren't you?
Titanium backup can extract everything from CWM recoveries, but be careful with restoring and first of all read the whole topic in dev section (if you want to transfer smth to CM9), there's a lot of useful info there

U can try to use AppExtractor, it enables u to restore contacts/sms/bluetooh/wifi from CWM backups.
DON'T restore system apps from GB ROM to CM9. They are not fully compatible.
LOST. tessmou
You can use export to sdcard option from the contacts app. You restore your contacts list by import from sdcard.
i have the same issue here. it flashed a new rom on my sgy. yet i cant restore the backup i made using cwm. i tried to restore it via cwm>advance restore, and it resulted to boot loop. the i tried titanium backup pro extract from nandroid but it gave me "sorry feature only works on donate version blah blah.. any idea?
Simple
Just restore your original Stock ROM back and connect your Gmail account (Settings > Accounts & Syns > Add Account for gmail) and Sync everything such as Contacts, Browser history, Calender etc... and for your confirmation open Gmail from PC Browser and your contact will be there... then Flash your Custom or any other Rom and same step repeat.. Your all contacts will come back in original format..
I Hope this simple method will be better for you because i am using this method, its automatically add/remove contacts whenever you add/remove from Contacts.
Press THANKS if you done this method
So I've upgraded Blazer ROM and I HATE it. My phone is running SO ****ty, so I want to do a complete restore and stick with stock rom's til I can take my phone back and upgrade to the s III. SO, my question is, will a nandroid backup done NOW be able to restore all my apps for the stock rom? Or if not what's an easy way to re-install all the apps I have now for a downgraded rom?? Does that make sense??? My brain has been fried for weeks so apologize if things aren't clear.
Not every ROM is perfect, you may want to try a more mainstream and stable ROM before giving up. To your point though...
A nandroid backup will restore everything to the exact state including the /system (ROM) and /data (apps+settings).
If you want to downgrade, the easiest way is just to sync all your apps through Google Play. Google will automatically sync apps registered to your Gmail account. You will loose all the settings this way however.
If you can flash the original ROM but leave S-OFF and retain root access, you could do a titanium backup and restore all apps + data. Another user will need to elaborate on the plausibility of this.

Just got onto CWM 10.2 (awesome rom so far imo) from the unbloated stock ROM. I have my titanium backup from the unbloated rom, but I can't figure out how to pull my contacts and pictures from it. I tried restoring just the contacts file in TiBu but it doesn't want to do anything good. And I don't want to lose all the work I put into customizing 10.2. Any help?
