I bought a samsung galaxy 4 from metropcs and i would like to flash it over so i can upgrade it 4.3 and just have my way with my device, but i do not want to mess it up. So i would like to know if sgh-m919n is the same as sgh-m919 and if so is there any way i can root my phone?
Thanks in advance
They are similar but not the same. I believe you can use the same root method, though.

how can i get that? if you dont mind me asking, any link?

The aosp roms are in the "original development" forum. The samsung touchwiz roms are in the development forum.
Btw in case you didnt know, it's not as important to be on the latest android version anymore because google moved major features into apps in the store. A good example is like google search, the siri competitor, and everyone gets it the day its updated. 4.3 and kitkat don't really add much over 4.2. They look almost exactly the same and the new stuff has really specific uses that most people dont run in to. Almost no apps require it. I'd suggest getting a 4.2 touchwiz rom like infamous or wicked.

They are practically the same.
Physically they are almost identical except metro doesn't have any carrier branding on the outside (a plus). T-mobile is on MDL firmware and Metro is on MF2, which are similar but not identical.
Most 4.2.2 roms have most of what 4.3 offers and even 4.4 in some cases. Although with tmo finally updating to 4.3 next week, I'm assuming most roms will be updated shortly.
While there is always a chance for problems, rooting/flashing roms is fairly easy if you take the time to read/watch a video or two. Chainfire jokes that it should only take 30 seconds to root a device with his method and he isn't exaggerating, but doesn't mean you should rush.
Here is a run down of how I rooted and sim unlocked my 2 metro S4s. Both running on Hyperdrive rom with faux123's kernel.

Stock rooted is my preference, but if flashing is the only option it may be worth it.
CleanROM and Jedi are both really good roots that allow what you want. I would read through both and see which meets your needs.
I'm getting incredible battery life on CleanROM and they just updated to 4.0.5.
Both roms are very well supported, so you can't go wrong.
I just tried and the calculator works with my setup.

I am running cleanROM which has it already installed and I believe stock rooted international has built in ability to do it also.

You need at least root. I higly recommend you to install cleanrom 1.2. It is based on att rom with many improvements. why the fixation to stay with stock? If you flash you can always go back to stock in case of warranty claim.

I would like this feature as well. Like a lot of users, I am rooted but prefer to remain stock for various reasons. For example, I was using cleanrom 5.0 over the last week until a coworker informed me my outlook meeting invites were not populating on group calendars. There are a ton of minor flaws I find like this with custom roms that don't exist on stock. In fact, in three phones and as many years if rooting, I have never found a rom as reliable as the one that the manufacturer intended.

I just wrote a paragraph explaining that I had found a good rom; the stock one. Isn't the spirit of XDA predicated on finding the experience that works best for the individual-be it stock or custom, free from judgement? Regardless, I would love to have this feature on the stock rom, which is why I revived this thread.

I have no Idea bro. I know with At&t roms you should have no problem installing. Sometimes you may need to edit the update script so that it can reflect T-Mobiles Note 2 and not the At&t's.
But not sure, I had no clue that they had a patch. Very interesting.

And to edit update script you will have yo replace it with a tmobile update script and that will depend on the room you choce for example if it is cm10.1 room yo have to use a tmobile cm10.1

First off, ask yourself why you want to update the modem. Are you having problem with current modem? If your phone is working fine don't see a reason unless you just want to.. As for what will happened to your phone depends, should be no problems but you assumed any and all risks when doing anything.

I'm currently on Wicked v7 ROM and I have the MK2 modem installed on my phone. My mobile signal has improved slightly and my Wi-Fi signal works 100% without any issues. Use the link as posted by Android_Monsters to flash your modem. And yes, at this time Knox makes it impossible to unroot to regain the warranty. But give this forum some time. I'm sure the developers here will figure out a way to bypass Knox.

The developers have already removed KNOX. There are several 4.3 roms ready to go. Official stock with KNOX removed is also out. Install the new modem via ODIN and flash your favoite flavor of 4.3. Simple. No voided warranty.

Remember that the phone checks for updates using the AT&T servers, if you are not using an AT&T sim, you wont be able to get the update. I would just load a custom 4.3 TW rom, which I'm sure are a lot better than the crap AT&T releases.
Have you tried to Odin to a stock 4.3 ROM.
You might want to try the one click.

Well the firmware is already available.
But the devs will need time to pull it apart and make flashables from it
And there will also need to be testing with how the newer radios work.
And potential issues with being on the older bootloader for those that have not updated due to Knox.
