sorry very new here and want to know how do we wait for the s-off? is that something similar to like cf-root kernels that root the samsung phones...sorry i am trying to get as much info as i can before i do anything, which by the looks of it will not be for a very long time yet

We need to wait for a tool to allow us to S-OFF, so we can reverse it if going back to stock. Then it's similar to galaxy we can flash via CWM.

It could take a while to get s-off. Someone needs to find their way through the new security protecting the radio to change the flag. It is possible, it's just a question of time. I also am waiting for s-off. Not rooted yet.

Yeps rooted ..
if i dont root my phone i cant do anything
As other poster says it just allows us to go back stock for warranty etc and it makes the process safer as such. Then its exactly like galaxy cwm and roms
ahh cool thanks guys...to be honest so far phone is running smooth and already disabled most of the crap from the phone anyway...although i must admit i am already missing my TB and other rooted apps. oh well this is like a whole new adventure.
Better wait and be safe than do something stupid..What about the htcdev.com is no one thinking about doing it that method?
Forget that method as there are certain warranty issues arising if you use the tool, read the thread in development with user comments which go into detail. Wait for revolutionary

Still no root for me... and personally I don't see any issue to unlock my device with HTCDev's online tool.
HTC can anyway recognize if an eventual problem is an hardware fault or something caused by custom software ran on the device.
I can't hear anything rattling on my One X.

Send it back, rattling is never a good sign.
I wouldn't unlock/root my phone with the HTCDev, they can use that against you if you ever encounter issues. Even when the rooting isn't the cause of the problem, if they say it is: are you going to start a lawsuit because of it ? No. So you are practically defenseless.

It isn't strange, even when a 100 pound device is rattling I would return it. Rattling isn't something you expect with smartphones.

Ok, here's my problem, Yesterday I checked for updates and there was one to 4.0.4 but I selected that I would do it later since I wanted a better charge, but I forgot about it, and now today I go to do it, and my phones says that there's no updates available. I'm still on 4.0.3, what could be going wrong?
try rebooting the phone and trying again, if it still not working, could do factory reset.
another way is to get the ruu and flash that
Try to force check-in, dial *#*#CHECKIN#*#*

Is there anyway to do it on the HTC website?

Wtf lol ? Keep trying.. If anyone can actively do something about it then it's them, reason I say is because Asus' servers don't provide the ota updates to unlocked devices at all.
htc must have a similar-ish setup, and somethings possibly gone wrong their end that they need to sort out before it will allow you to update. The fact they sound like they don't recognise your imei is a little worrying.. Maybe that's the problem..

That is weird, have you ever had it sent off for repair or anything? Maybe the imei changed then, or are you certain it changed straight after the update?

Yeah it changed after the update. It was sent away, but the IMEI changed after doing the update.
Not sure if its anything that could cause problems in future, so I won't worry about it too much.

Okay, so I have all my files in place and followed the instructions to a T.. except one part. I had to add the Optimus G into the config file, which then requires a manifest(?). This file is an XML and I have no idea how to even begin creating one for the LGOG. I've looked all over Google for answers, but nothing.
The Rookie ROM building tutorial seems to give a manifest of sorts, but that isn't working.
I'm pretty sure that after this one issue is resolved, I can build Firefox OS for the Optimus G succesfully.
Thanks for any help I can get and I hope to start building soon!
Here's the link to the manifest for the Nexus 4 that's already in the Git Repo, this one works, but not for the LGOG

Yup, tried a battery pull to no avail.
The only response I get is if I hold the power button (with or without any combination of the volume keys).
That gets me a brief red flash of the LED.

For sure! I am not a dev so I respect anyone who works on our devices so I am def not being impatient just was joking a little...
justin (@jcase) is a great mobile security researcher and developer of many Android exploits, I've been followed his work for quite some time now. Although the tweet didn't say it was specifically for the HTC One, the thought of 4.4.2 being able to root is a HUGE step forward for those that are stuck on the OTA.

I sent mine directly to HTC. Most people seem to get theirs back with 4.3, but 4.4.2 is readily available now. I am hoping I get it back with 4.3. I did have S-OFF on 4.4.2, but I RUU'd back to stock 4.2.2 after hearing HTC denied the warranty claim on a user who was S-OFF.
I hope my next device that HTC is mailing out to me will not be on 4.4.2. The one I got that had the terrible purple/pink tint came as 4.2.2. Hopefully another exploit is found as 5 months on stock would be torture .
Does this mean S-off vulnerability as well or only root without S-off?
Sent from my HTC6500LVW using Tapatalk 2
By itself it means root only. But once you have root that means firewater will then work for s-off, as temproot is what is failing for firewater on our bootloader.

Hey everyone, I am a complete Noob to the One and HTC devices in general (I've been using Nexus devices for a while) so please bear with me. I picked up a HTC One that should be here shortly and I was researching rooting and ROMs, which brought me here. It sounds like 4.4.2 cannot be rooted due to the new bootloader lock, but I came across two links that say that the One on 4.4.2 can be unlocked at HTCdev.com, and another that says the rumrummer tool now works. So I'm just looking for some clarification on what I can expect when the phone gets here. Do those methods work at all?
No at the moment no current method available works on 4.4.2. However a new exploit is set to be released in early august.
Don't wait to root. You may lose the opportunity. Root isn't guaranteed. Especially with every update.

Such frequent updates are very great. E.g. Samsung doesn't get near the update speed of HTC currently, as many others as well. If you don't like HTC anymore I'd advice you to just sell the phone and stop talking this way as this doesn't help anyone here. Just my 2 cent.
Thanks at the OP for this helpful information :good:
