I was installing an app (swiftkey) and my phone froze. I manually tried rebooting but it wont turn on at all (not even bootloader). When I connect it to a power supply the LED doesn't even light up (although it had 25% battery before the problem). My phone definitely wasn't overheating (I checked immediately after to make sure nothing happened) and I wasn't OCing or anything.
Any ideas what to do?
Thanks in advance,

Is it recognized on a computer? Trying to rule out whether it's the QHSUSB_DLOAD issue that some people got, if it's recognized on a computer, and the driver installation says that, your phone's in usb download mode, as far as I know there are tools out there to kick the phone out of that mode, just not sure if it's for the One X.
P.S, what HOX is it? Because this only happens to the US variants

I was worried about the motherboard also although I cant believe I didnt think of checking the battery. I'll take apart the phone tomorrow see whats going on inside - thanks for the ideas.
Dead HOX
If you disassembly motherboard connect it to the PC . You should see it in control panel and also storage. Conect only battery and led diode should glow in red colour. If you end up with dead motherboard be carefull i bought one from ebay useless and 2 localy also useless. Unfortunately used motherboards on the market are mostly useless. Good luck.
Ok motherboards' gone.... I purchased a Nexus 5 32gb I think it should take my HoX's place nicely.
Thanks guys!

hi everyone
last night i was just using my gnexus as usual, then all of a sudden the device just freezes and then proceed to emit a loud noise, like a "buuuzzz" nonstop..i coundt turn it off through the pwer button so i decided to remove the battery..reinsert it, and then can't turn it on again..
tried to conect to pc, the device is not recognized..
cant power on with the charger plugged in..tried another charger, no success
meanwhile i'm trying to put the battery on an external charger to see if its an issue with the battery itself..
i'm starting to think that my nexus is dead..
please if someone cound help me, it would be much appreciated. thx in advance!!!
sorry for my broken english, i'm from brazil
So it doesn't vibrate or anything? You can't get into bootloader? No Odin?
If no, then try OMAP flashing. I never did it, so I don't quite know about it, but apparently this saved some good amount of people with the hard bricking.
Do you have the ability to give it a try with another battery?

Not in the moment, but the battery just runs fine with an external charger. But i'll try to find another one available..
The thing that really bothers me is the no response when plugged to the pc. Am i mistaken, or it should beep when connected through usb(without the battery)?
have the device for TWO months..wow...

I had Similar issue with another phone. It was hardware related. Were you overclocked? Running custom Rom?
Are you under warranty?

Yeah I recently had something similar happen. Taking the battery out and plugging it into the computer did the trick and it booted back up. Something to try anyway.

Never messed with the clockspeed, however yes i'm using a custom Rom. Actually i've been using this for 3 days, no problems whatsoever. until now..do u think that's the cause? The phone is literally dead by now. Thats REALLY depressing. and the loud noise when it froze before it completely stopped working.. unbelievable

If it's dead go ahead and exchange of in warranty. The buzzing sound is a chip frying.

thx for the reply everyone!
So the strangest thing happened. i left the battery in the external charger for a full day..when a took it off and put it in the phone, pressed the pwr button with no sucess...nothing again...tried a couple of times..and yet nothing
five minutes later ,on a last ditch effort, pushed the pwer button once more and..FINALLY ! the thing wakes up..booted normaly, like nothing happened.
today when the battery runs out again(on about 2 %) i turned it off and connected the usb cable to charge in my work's pc..now again the same thing happens, phone is dead again. tried with 2 different cables..battery is already in the external charger, gonna try again tomorrow..
starting to think the problem is in the usb connector or the battery itself..but at least my biggest fear(fried phone) seems less likely

thx for the link mate
Yeah, this really apears to be the most logical source of the issue..such a shame, i was really having a great time with this phone.
Re-inserted the battery fully charged and it's not turning on, tried 50x times alrealdy.
gonna call samsung later and see what will unfold..i'´ll post an update as soon as this situation is sorted out.
Pretty sure my options are just send it in for repair at this stage, but just incase i thought i'd make a topic anyways. I wasn't trying to hack it or anything infact i recently unrooted the damn thing...about 3-4 weeks ago, in hopes id recieve the JB OTA. Either way the screen suddenly stopped working today but it'll still reset if i held the button down and charge when plugged. then all of a sudden it vibrated, wouldn't even restart anymore, and the phones not even charging. i tried different cables and my friends HTC One X charger too incase it was the cahrger (doubt it since the phone had 80% battery before the screen turned off anyways but whatever) and still nothing. Im guessing its dead somehow, and hopefully can get it repaired free, but has anyone else heard of anything like this and if so is there an easier fix than sending it to HTC?
Nothing anyone can do if it won't turn on. Hardware problem maybe.

Hey guys,
Please stop PM'ing me about APX Mode. I get like 10 PM's a day.
How to get in
Nobody really knows. The most common way has been pressing volume up and down together while device is off and then plugin USB while connected to a computer.
How to get out
When your device is in APX Mode, HTC fixes it in repair. Someone here on XDA PM'd me with this video and said it should work: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rsnl_LIgzt0
I have not tried it myself, so just give it a try and share with the rest.
All the other discussions about APX can be done here, please stop pm'ing me.
Thank you!
Pressing vol up and down while phone is off works only on some devices. Some pm'd me about getting into apx mode with this. PC will recognize the device as "APX something something"
Sent from my HTC One X using xda premium
I too have joined the APX club.
I bought the phone off eBay, with a damaged screen not displaying anything.
When plugged into USB, it would charge, and the PC recognized it as a HTC One X.
When playing with the buttons, I could hear the startup tone.
Since fitting the new screen- very carefully - the phone has gone into the APX mode.
The charge light has come on once whilst plugged into the computer, after which I swapped it over to the mains charger. The red charging light stayed lit for 10 minutes, then went out.
Since then, I've seen no life whatsoever other than the APX mode.
I have tried the YouTube video above, and many combinations. I have tried charging up the battery directly via a hacked USB cable. I have tried powering on the phone with what I think has been every possible combination. I have tried leaving it plugged in overnight. I have tried plugging in the mains/USB charger while pressing buttons. Something isn't right.
The battery can light up a 3V LED, and today I have just found up a multimeter, so I will check the voltage of the battery as I believe it needs at least 3.6 or 7 volts to start up.
Yesterday I tried speaking to Vodafone, who didn't have any software to flash the HTC other than the publicly available software from the HTC site. I also spoke to Carphone Warehouse, who also didn't have any equipment. Neither assistants or the engineers in the shops had come across the APX mode before.
I'll update this thread with any more of my findings, as it is one of the top results in google and I suggest others do the same. Hopefully together we can work a way out of this without the need to send to HTC.
Try holding the power button for roughly 40 seconds with charger disconnected. It might work.
You could also try "nvflash" reboot commands. Since there's no nvflash package/drivers for the HOX I'd try with the Asus TF packages. Though, I'm pretty sure someone has already tried it without success
Also, are you able to connect the device in adb mode? Adb without being in OS works if you power off, wait couple of seconds an connect it to the PC without powering on. You should see the red led constantly on. If it works try "abd reboot oem-34". I'd appreciate it if you could report if it did work.

Afraid I've tried all that. ADB isn't available, only appears in APX mode.
Phone does nothing.
Only interaction I can have with the phone is to connect via usb, and holding the power button for 10 seconds changes it to APX mode. Otherwise it's an unknown device, for which no drivers are available- I can force drivers onto it, but its hard to tell exactly what it's looking for.
I have also tried the NVflash utility for tegra 3 devices- I have a transformer prime, this is what made me purchase a tegra 3 based phone.
Anyway, the NVflash utility cannot operate with the phone, it merely displays as an unknown device.
No red LEDs, no nothing.
Cronus, trust me, I've tried
Still, I've just popped the battery out and checked the voltage- 2.64V - WAY below where it needs to be- around 3.7 volts to boot up.
I've popped the terminals out of the battery connector, and connected them to the hacked USB on the positive and negative. It's currently plugged in to the HTC wallcharger, and it is charging the battery up.
I'm going to leave it on for an hour, then I'll stick it back in the phone. More updates to come :good:
Just send it to htc or your carrier mate. This happened to me b4 xmas and I sent it back to my carrier. They charged me 76 pounds and gave me a brand new phone even tho they said they had to change a circuit board. Sorry to say this but if everyone that gets their phone into apx mode should sent it to htc so they realise that this is a design fault and not just caused by unlocking the bootloader. Maybe some haven't unlocked and are also experiencing apx mode?

I bought it off eBay, the warranty is void. As far as I know the bootloader hasn't been unlocked, as the previous owner said they'd only had it 5 days before they dropped it on the floor and the screen popped out. But I have had it working properly- I could hear the startup sound being played when I had it.
I've spent £58 on a new screen, to spend another £76 just isn't economical.
The battery is now back in the phone after being charged to 3.8 volts, it still doesn't appear to be doing anything- I'll post back if there are any further developments.
I have found a company which say they have encountered and fixed the APX mode on the HTC One X before - www.uk-repair.com
Quoted me £44 to get it fixed. I've politely requested any information they feel comfortable contributing about the APX mode be posted on the forum.
Fingers crossed
I made an insurance claim for my APX'd phone as it was only £25 excess; it was sent to thefoneclinic.com who have deemed it beyond economical repair so i'm getting a replacement. I'm guessing either something on the motherboard was actually fried or only HTC themselves can recover from APX mode
AW: [HowTo] Getting out of APX Mode
To the people stuck in APX mode; try constantly rebooting. Like powering on hundreds of times. TripNnRaver got his device out of APX this way, but obviously he is stuck in APX again after a reboot. At least he managed to boot into the OS for a short time.

This happened to my phone. Installed Trip's endeavor unleashed v003 and it bricked my htc one x. I kept on rebooting it and managed to get back once to the OS but when I restarted the device again it never go back now its bricked!
I don't know though if my ONE X is on APX mode. I can still go to fastboot and recovery but everytime i copy files thru ADB, from my pc command line it says success but when i try to flash it from clockwork the file i copied isnt there. I tried flashing a different recovery but it seems that the device is readonly and i couldnt delete or write to it.

i'll try the original one..'cause i bought a while ago a mugen power battery bigger than the stock one....but the mess is that i haven't done anything to the phone..it simply "suicided" himself!that's weird!

I actually just came to make a thread, about the exact same problem I cant turn my desire on charging doesn't respond tried a new battery at a store. Prior to this happening I was at a beach and my phone took a dip for 10 seconds, phone never stopped working the led light was red from there on worked for at least a month or so after before this.
I was thinking it was connected to that but maybe not, I was wondering if maybe the phone some how bricked. It's a silly question but I shall ask any ways is there any possibility of restoring stock ruu via the computer? I'm no expert on that guess the phone wouldn't be detected tho.
The only thing I can make the phone do is occasionally when holding the power down the phones gets stuck vibrating till I pull the battery.

for some reason Sony Thailand couldn't declassified, been like this since the first day. Going back and forth to service center tons of times and they COULDN'T FIX IT. My dad's Xperia Play won't connect to ANY computer, no bing-bong sound when plugging no nothing, not see anything on the phone except that it's charging, it's like the computers aren't existed, only the power gets through.
Now Sony still not fixing this problem, so for this old phone how can I unlock it and flash ROMs without a connection to PC? By any means.
Thank you!!
Have you tried changing usb cable? Maybe it is broken (mine got broken after a week or so, and it was the original one come with the phone of course), since it's impossible that they sold you a device with damaged micro-usb port.
Or maybe it is the usb port you're connecting it to: some PCs have a lower voltage in front usb ports, so you must connect the Play to the rear ones installed on the motherboard of the PC

I think they sold my dad a faulty device and when he tried to claim it after a week they didn't want to replace the phone so they told him they could't fix it. This country's Sony is known to sell faulty devices, my last Xmini was also broken...
and yes I did try other cables, Sammy, LG and some chinese made, nothing works. They did work with my Nokia N8 and S3, however. All the ports in my PC have failed, also.
so I can do nothing, stuck with RAM hungry 2.3 bloated ROM without any solution to make it faster.
