Based on the idea given above I got curious and didn't see any all in one help thread over here so decided to make one of these threads here
Before posting anything on XDA Please read this
Even if you do get your question(s) answered, please, do come back and follow this thread to educate yourself. You'll be surprised how much time and frustration it will save you in the future.
ASK ANY QUESTION HERE, drivers, rom, kernel, battery, stuck at boot logo etc...... You will either get an answer or will get pointed in the right direction.
I don't own this device so maybe I will not be able to answer all the questions asked here but someone monitoring may help

Hi people, im new here coming from xperia 2011 series. I have the e 975 modell.
Wanna root and flash custom kernel and rom. Im a bit confused cuz there seems some other modells like e973 and for sprint theres a own section. What means Sprint? So can i flash a rom from every modell or only the ones for e975. And what about roms for nexus4, did they work?
Thanks in advance.

Carrier specific roms are different... If you flash those, RIL might now work...
Also E975 and E973 and others models are same as compared to specifications but are not the same when it comes to roms and kernels :/
About Nexus 4, You have to port roms from Nexus 4 on CM10.1 Base then they will work
Thanks. Found a tut. how to root and unlock b. with freegee ( is it really just an app, so simple?).
But found nothing about how to install recovery, is it too just an app? Sorry, maybe noobish but on sony recovery were built in kernel and kernel must be flashed with pc.

When you unlock with freegee TWRP recovery is automatically installed. I think you can also choose to install cwm though the app, not sure.
edit: cwm can of course be installed later if you wish, although twrp is perfectly fine. Remember that twrp and cwm nandroid backups are not compatible with each other!

But thanks to kiwinazgul now everything is clear.
Hey guys, just downloaded the latest RC of CM10.1
Question bout the kernel which is in the zip file, should i flash the boot.img without the zip?? or just flash the whole zip and it installs both, kernel and rom. On my old Sony device i had to extract the zip first to take out the boot.img and flashing it with a pc and then in recovery the rom itself. I know that now on my e975 i can flash kernel in recovery too.

If i wanna go back to stock, i mean restore a nandroid backup, does it restore the stock kernel too?
And the last for today, does the CM10.1 Kernel supports overclocking?

I have an E973 on Telus. I read that the E970 AT&T Kernel will work on my phone, so can I use ROMs for the E970 or is the storage difference a deal breaker? Both models have 8 MP cameras so will the camera work?
What's the best custom rom+kernel combo for the e975. For best performance overall and gaming.
With stock i scored on Antutu Benchmark about 18000 ponts, with cm10.1 and kite kernel only 16000. I have a friend with a Nexus4 and he told me that he scored about 20000 points with paranoid rom and franco Kernel. I know that these Benchmarks are nothing important but i wanna show that my G has too that much of power
So which combo??

I own this phone and a Note 3 but I use my epic just to flash just because. My question to the community is do you think that there will be a 4.4 Rom for this ancient phone since KitKat runs better on Low end devices also?
We need devoted devs, time and (possibly) a 3.4 kernel.

If you check the development section, you will find that BBelos has got an unofficial CM 11 (Andriod 4.4 kitkat) ROM out. I've loaded it on my Epic & so far it is working good. Check it out,

I'm having a couple problems with cm 11.0 the sign in screen is partially blacked out, also save to sd card is broken. The apps disappear after a reboot.
Yep, it's still alittle buggy, that's why its an unofficial. It's not really ready as a daily driver, but for a bleeding edge 1st shot, it's a really good job. Kudos to BBelos for getting it out so quick. Most old phones are still hoping for KitKat.
cyanogen 11 good enough

You don't need roms for that, you need kernels try Franco's kernel. Cynogen is the most stable and bug free ROM out there.

Get the latest version from here and be sure to select the correct device or you know..... Brick etc...
You can find many kernels on the development section of your device
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-nexus/development this is for maguro
You can use others but I prefer using Franco kernel as it is very easy to flash (you can download it's app from play store just type Franco kernels and download it. You can use auto flash option from it)
Remember these things are very tricky,it can make your device unusable if you install it incorrectly so..... Take care
And yeah nightlies are official so you better get them from their website as they are fully tested and it is less likely to go anything wrong with them

I know that people generally stick to Cyanogenmod due to it's stability, but I think it is overrated due to the fact that they support so many devices. I would prefer ROMs where the devs actually have the device, and focus on the device since they plan to have it for a while.
With that being said, here is my favorite ROM:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-nexus/development/rom-omnimetal-linaro-omni-rom-t2550477
I haven't had any issues (like apps that force close) on it, and apps run fine. In fact, I have also switched to ART and it is pretty stable and blazingly fast. My test was its battery life, and it lasted me close to 7 days on standby with groove ip running on it (receiving calls, texts, etc.), and 2 days with active usage with a sim card.
Hope this helps!

Thanks for atleast reply and suggesting me some ROM which is i ever try.. but now i am little confused, for selecting ROM, I made my mind as per last reply ROM from CM11 Nightly and Kernel From Franco but now OMNI i need to learn about that too.
Can anyone have suggestion on that or give me little more light on ROM.
Thanks
Its good to have choices
If you are new to flashing ROMs, usually CM 11 is an excellent choice.
However, to me speed, low RAM consumption and good battery life matters, so here are the reasons why I chose that ROM:
1. Linaro toolchain - Here is a link to explain why it is faster than standard CM:
http://www.androidauthority.com/linaro-android-is-up-to-twice-as-fast-as-stock-android-92831/
2. Dirty_V kernel - For speed, most of us Nexus users feel it is the best. It is an improvement over Franco's kernel
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-nexus/development/kernel-dirtyv-t2613655
So, I usually choose a ROM which uses the linaro toolchain. I also got a ton of cool features like notifications, omniswitch, etc. which you can read about in the ROM link from my previous post.
In the end, I am just giving you suggestions. Why don't you try creating a nandroid backup and then flashing many ROMs to see which one you like? Using the nandroid backup, you could always come back to the tried and trusted CM 11 !
Here is a small intro to nandroid backups which may be useful even in the future in case you mess up your phone with a bad update:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/NANDroid
Hope this helps! :good:
I'm switch between 2 Roms.
Remix
Vanir
Bothe stable and fast.
CU
Litening
Thanks really ! I'll definatly read and try on of that, but first I'll take nandroid backup and learn how to restore etc.
CM11 is good but some time its response very lately specially when charging.

You might want to try omnirom (google for omnirom download, you want the maguro version).
They push daily updates (I install updates every 1-3 weeks). They closely track AOSP (meaning a new AOSP will be made available ASAP). It's a very stable rom and I'm running it my nexus 4 and a modified version on my Galaxy Nexus. It's been incredibly stable and reliable so far. Oh, and its 4.4.2
No try omnimetal! No try vanir! No try liquidsmooth! No try Xenonhd!. So you need to test everything. These threads are useless and not allowed. Choose one you like. Every rom is stable unless specified otherwise..

Ive been using this as my daily for months now. Only had a few random reboots and some of those are probably related to the fact im undervolting.
I have found the CAF version of the Glitch kernel (not the latest like an older version) to be extrememly stable in use with this rom.
Keep up the top work!

now that i think about it... a CAF wouldnt work would it... re reading the derscription of the kernel it uses some CAF sources (for msm specific stuff or used to anyway) but is built for AOSP (And its not as old as i thought i dont think, i forgot i built it from source on jenkins so its got a different namng convention to the ones in the actual glitch thread). If i can work out which kernel it is i will let you know as it is very stable and i have been using as my daily for months now with this rom.
Running up to 1.89GHz with 50ma (or more) undervolting for each step. only had a few issues initially while i got the undervolts right.
The full CAF kernels did not work at all (sorry i should have though about what i was saying haha!)

android 5 from android 4.4.2
I have a rooted, bootloader unlocked, with TWRP nexus 7 2013 (32gb wifi) running android 4.4.2 but have not installed a custom rom till date. Now if i want to flash a custom rom such as this one (android 5, while my nexus is on 4.4.2), all i have to do is download the rom from the link given in the instructions and flash it via TWRP?. From what i understand from the instructions, it doesnt matter what my tablets kernel number etc is, all i have to do is flash it via TWRP. Or is it that the new kernel is included with the flashable zip file, that i am to download.
Any input or advice is appreciated.
Thanks in advance

Screen sometimes flashes and doesn't display anything till I bring up the power menu by holding the power button, am I the only one?
How to root this rom?
It should be already rooted
Does this rom contain a recovery?
I tried to install this CM11 rom and was unable to enter or find a recovery after the fastboot flash of the boot.img file.
So, I flashed the boot.img file from this other rom instead. It gave me TWRP so, using that I installed this CM11 rom finally. Of course, I now have no recovery once again.
When I say I have no recovery, I mean something like @AcSilver describes here.
Questions:
- Have you installed this rom?
- Did you flash boot.img first as is usual?
- Were you able to reboot into recovery afterwards?
- Do you have a recovery after fully installing the rom?
- If you have a recovery, how do you enter recovery from boot?

Your Xperia Acro S (XAS) MUST have an unlocked bootloader (or a bootloader that can be unlocked) to be able to flash a custom rom like CM11.
If your device meets the requirement, you should follow the relevant sections of the install guide for CM11 on the XAS.

Probably Jelly Bean.
If you want KitKat, use the rom I linked to in this post.
As I mentioned in my post, it does not have a recovery so it is perhaps not a suitable choice for a beginner. If you can wait a couple of weeks, the developer has suggested a new build might be on the way. That will hopefully have a working recovery integrated.

There are a few KitKat 4.4.x roms for the Acro S in the Acro S Development forum. I have no first-hand experience with most of them and cannot make recommendations.
If you are experienced, you can go to that forum, read a lot and maybe try one or a few KitKat roms until you find one that you like.
If not, wait for the next release of the rom I linked to. It just needs a recovery. I used it daily with no issues at all.
hangout bluetooth mic
For me, on Note 2 with cyanogenmod version 11-20141008-SNAPSHOT-M11-I900, there are two issues:
1) the phone mic works in hangout but has echoes (at least when calling or called by a number). I switched to the google voice app for making calls and that doesn't have any echoes.
2) the bluetooth mic doesn't work at all in hangout. The other party cannot hear it from the bluetooth set. This is not a problem when using the google voice app to call, however.

I don't think it is possible to convert this ROM to ftf as this is a custom ROM. Why do You need to flash it via flashtool? It can be flashed directly by recovery.

@fazlehaq: The M12-equivalent release of the CM11 rom is out. It is said to have a recovery so, no more issues there.
Latest build lags, build from September is smooth
Launcher in latest build lags more, and pull-down is also more laggy. In build from September things are more smooth in general.
Just reverted to previous build.
