I just rooted my phone today. I have root because I have used a few apps that require it so I know that it is working. I have tried every hotspot app and none of them are working for me. It looks like it is going work and then it says it is shutting off because my plan does not allow it. Is there any fix for this. I am just rooted no custom recovery or rom. Thanks

Ok so I flashed cwm. Now this hotspot hack I am guessing I will install the zip through cwm correct? Which one do I download and use md4 odexed or deodexed or any of the otjer ones? Thanks
Sent from my SPH-L710 using xda app-developers app
If you're phone is up to date and stock use the Odex md4 version.
So I just install the md4 odexed zip from cwm and reboot the phone? Do I need to wipe cache or anything since this is nit a rom?

I always wipe caches no matter what I flash.

While it is unethical for you to use tethering without paying for it - Sprint does not throttle or charge you for using it because they do not track it. Once their network gets better and is on par with AT&T/Verizon, they will definitely start cracking down on unauthorized tethering usage. Just bear in mind that if you download heavy files or view steaming media (HD content, such as netflix or youtube), you'll be bogging down the network in your area (all other people around you sharing the same cell site will be affected negatively.) I use tethering for myself, but only when my Comcast goes offline and I try as little as possible to use anything HD while on Sprint's network.

I haven't found any evidence that this has been done yet, so I was wondering if someone would be able to either tell us how to hack the stock Sprint Hotspot app or upload a pre-hacked app for us to download.
I'm willing to try ideas out to see if they work, so let me know if you have suggestions!
The hotspot app is built into the framework. So it would take some editing. Are doubting to use kies?
Use wireless tether for root, it's in the market.

Wireless tether may or may not work from the market, wouldn't work for me. If it doesn't try this link: http://code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/downloads/detail?name=wifi_tether_v3_1-beta14.apk This 1 worked for me the 1st time. ROOT is required of course.
Q. How do I use the WiFi Tether app?
Download from the store or see above link....
1. Open the Wifi Tether App
2. Press Menu
3. Press Settings
4. Choose "Change Device-Profile"
5. Choose "Samsung Galaxy Nexus (CDMA/LTE)"
6. Press Back twice to return to initial app screen
7. Press the big ole WiFi Signal icon
8. Allow Superuser Permissions
Profit! :highfive::highfive::highfive:
I should have clarified in the first post, but I was hoping to get the stock app hacked to work for tethering (wired and wireless). I'm familiar with WiFi Tether and I'm sure I could get that working (thankfully!), but I prefer the stock app. From my experience with the stock app on the Evo 3D, One S, and Evo 4G LTE, it's a lot faster and more reliable than third-party apps.
I'm not even sure what kies is yet, so I'm not using it, no. I think it's some sort of data/calendar sync service.

Htc handles the 3rd party apps a little differently than Samsung. For instance Foxfi which did not need root at all would not work properly with HTC phones unless rooted. I know you may want to use the stock one but at the end of the day you still pressing a button and I have been using wifi tether and it works flawlessly and actually to me was faster than stock. I have owned and Evo Evo3D, Epic Touch Galaxy S2(Tmobile) Galaxy S3(Sprint). Must say that wireless tether app has held me down on more than one occasion.
Don't hurt to request it though but I am quite sure whether you asked or not someone is and has been working on it.

With wireless tether change profile to galaxy nexus gsm not cdma and you must use access control.

So... we don't have a stock hotspot hack yet except for CM10??
If you are running stock rooted this is worth giving a shot. Its a nandroid of a stock cspire rom. Same ROM with the exception of a few sprint apps missing. Fully functional stock tether if your on sprint http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=32460393&postcount=21 think it runs better too. Just throwin it out there
Will this work with the Sprint Galaxy SPH-L710? Can it just be flashed over the existing ROM?

WiFi Tether from the market works best for me!
I am seeing a lot of negative comments about this app 'wifi tether' and gs III stock. It seems to indicate that it does not play well together. This is why I was asking, because this was my experience today: No consistent connection, it simply drops the tether and the app stops.
Sent from my AT100 using Tapatalk 2
Better get used to it if ur stayin stock. All that works unless u have the means to Bluetooth tether. If u can do it with Bluetooth try foxfi. Normal tether doesn't work with it yet. Also if u haven't done so, in addition to setting gnex profile in the tether app and unchecking the disable wake lock option, delete ConnectionManager.apk from /system/app. Probably the cause of your tethering woes
Thanks for confirming

WiFi Tether works for me just fine (gotta select the GNexus CDMA/LTE profile).
The only hiccup I've found is that before I activate tethering, I often need to do a fresh reboot on the GSIII, or else it will claim its broadcasting, but it really isn't.
And, of course, root IS required for this particular app.

I don't know enough about the rules on posting links so................
I did a google search for "wifi tether versions"
Down toward the bottom of the results I came across a page from the androidpolice site.
Right above the row of three screen shots is the following sentence: (If it does get pulled, however, you can always grab the apk from Here).
Click on the word "Here" and it will take you to the android-wifi-tether project home page.
Click on downloads and that will get you to where you want to be.
I am running Jelly Bean on my GS3 and have yet to be able to get wifi tether or foxfi to work at all.
I am about to start at the oldest version of wifi tether and work my way forward until I find something that works.
Until I find something stable, I will be using pdanet for wired tether. Hey, it works all day long for me.
On EDIT.............
Ignore most of the above and just google "android wifi tether project"
It will cut out most of the steps and is the first result on google.
Dang, I've been here almost two years and still considered a new member?
Had to wait 5 minutes before I could edit the post with better info.

Sure it has something to do with post count.

FoxFi hasn't worked to tether for a couple of months now or as of the last OTA update. I was tethering fine with it up until then with no problems whatsoever, but after the update it stopped working. Seems rooting is the only way currently to get tethering w/o a tether plan.

I use FoxFi as a hotspot.
What is your software version... There's most like a flash to enable the stock tethering...
Is everyone here using an SGH-I747 on JB 4.1.1 ROM? I'm guess not. One person says Foxfi works, the other says it hasn't for months. JB 4.1.1 just came out days ago. Lots of people losing tethering. I installed CW Recovery and Team Epic Root. Just Titanitum Backup to uninstall the tethering provision which seems to be what checks your AT&T plan. I can't get any app to work including Wifi Tethering for Root using auto or S3 profile. SSID doesn't show up. The non-root apps, the tethering blue icon shows up int he status bar, I can see them on the network and connect but get only "Limited" connection in Windows with no Internet. Then I tried stock tether in Settings > Advanced > Tether. Whenever I change the toggles the Settings app itself crashes!
I'm sort of steaming now about the guy who recommended I use TB to freeze the tethering provisioning but I saw You Tube video showing doing just that (actually an uninstall). Then using Wifi Tether for Root. My best guess is WiFi Tether For Root broke after JB 4.1.1 update along with a lot of other tethering related apps and most posts are either before the JB 4.1.1 update, or they are users have who haven't updated and tried it? Haven't tried Foxfi yet. That may be next.
---------- Post added at 11:52 AM ---------- Previous post was at 10:55 AM ----------
Soultion is a newer hacked version of Wifi Tether for Rooted user that is not on the Play Store and the apk has to be downloaded directly. Current version is here:
http://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=9390195663897100406
YouTube Video on it here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ztsZH6Xj7A0
What a pain in the ass it took to finally find this. The problem is all the posts and methods out there essentially became defunct when the JB 4.1.1 update came out a few days ago yet you still have users unknowingly recommending the same methods because they were still on ICS. Guess that's the price you pay when you are brand new to Android and an OS update comes out two weeks after you got your phone and you install it the day it comes out. Sigh.
---------- Post added at 12:17 PM ---------- Previous post was at 11:52 AM ----------
Ugh. Got too excited too quick. You can't toggle Wifi back on after shutting down tethering without restarting phone! Guess it's going to be a few more days until some good developers come out with a simple one-app solution without issues. It was WAY easier to get free tethering on the jailbroken iPhone that this. I'm shocked this is so hard right now on Android JB 4.1.1. But I have to remember the OS update just came out.

Thanks everyone for your helpful information
I will be flashing the Jedi Rom soon
I have a couple questions before I do so...
1) Can I flash it on top of the existing ROM that I used to initially root my SGSNote2? Or do I need to unroot it first?
2) I have backed up my device with NANDROID as described, but, can i just flash Jedi using my app Rom Toolbox?
Thanks again

I'm pretty new to this so someone more knowledgable might contradict my answer later. If so, go with what they say.
1 I believe the preferred method when going from one custom rom to another is to wipe the old one out by clearing all with whatever custom recovery tool you use. I believe doing so does not unroot your phoe so you cna then install the next rom without having to root again. Rooting is a one time thing.
2 I have no idea about this one.
You used to be able to do it through titanium back up with a stock rom when i had my Galaxy S2. I'm trying to keep things stock and not flash any custom roms. Hopefully someone finds a way
