Alright, so i wanna use This with TMO since a friend gave me it. Is there a way to use it on there 4g/3g? I am in a 1900mhz re-farm area. Can i just flash a TMO baseband radio? What is needed to do?
It's a hardware difference in the TMo and VZW phones. Flashing the radios will just make the call/data networks not work at all.

ah ok, didn't know if the radios where the same since its the same phone or not. Thanks!
Could always try and trade someone who has the gsm version?

Nope. CDMA phones are locked and there's no good way to unlock them.

Nope. If you buy the Verizon one you're stuck. Theres a small glimmer of hope that you could reflash it to another regional CDMA carrier, but even that's a long-shot.

short answer, no
long answer, yes
Anything can be done with enough will power. But practically speaking, no you cant.
I know a guy who got his CDMA EVO 3D working on ATT's GSM network. And I flashed my Sprint only EVO 3D to connect to Verizon. So yes these things are possible, but I wouldnt bother if I were you. If you want to use your VZW Nexus on a GSM network, then why didnt you just get a contract and GSM phone on whichever Network you wanted? If you want to flash to Sprint, Why? Verizon is much better, I just came from Sprint so believe me when I say Sprint has some ****ty service right now. Too many upgrades going on.
I'm picking up a StraightTalk SIM for my T989. I know it's equipped to work on the AT&T bands (850/1900), but I'm wondering if I need to flash a different modem or radio(?)
If I do, the obvious next question: which ones? I'm currently running stock 2.3.6 TouchWiz, rooted, with a munch of stuff frozen/removed.
I love the phone, just don't have T-Mobile coverage (pretty much EDGE wherever I go).

You will need it unlocked, although SimpleMobile uses tmobiles towers so maybe not. As far as radios, you don't need any of that.
You could try out the Telus radio to see if you get a better connection.

Yeah call customer service if you paid 3 months of full bills then they will unlock for free.
Using SIMple will require unlock even using TMobile towers service id on SIM will cause it to prompt.
Don't forget to grab the APN addresses from their site and create entries in settings>wireless and mobile networks before inserting new SIM or you won't get service.

Hey guys, i was just wondering if a Tmobile branded SGN2 can be "turned into" a ATT Note 2? i have an ATT 4G sim card in the TMo phone, but im not getting LTE or GPS. Love the phone, but i cant stand being on 3G speeds with no GPS.
for those wondering, my cousin sold me his TMO SGN2 because it was too big for him and he got an S3.
Any and all help would be appreciated. Thanks in Advance!!!!!!!!!!!
im guessing you would have it have it unlocked to work on another GSM carrier like any other phone.
it is possible as so far everyone is saying that technically the hardware are the same but no one seem to have yet to test or come up with a way to enable the lte portion of the phone. I think it won't be something that is possible now until tmo rolls out lte and possibly then they will unlock the lte radio on the phone. Then maybe one of smart guys at xda can then help. As for now, the answer is probably no.
The biggest question is LTE. The LTE chip is in the Tmo phone but deactivated. As far as I know, no one has figured out yet how to activate it.
You may have to settle for HSPA speeds for now.
I tried an att gs3 on t mobile and it stuck me on edge. The two networks only use one of the same frequencies for 3.5g. And of course, t mobile has no lte... so don't expect to get any decent speeds. My solution to the problem? I bought a t mobile gs3
Shouldnt flashing an att modem/radio solve that issue? With all the att network settings and flashed att modem, it should theoretically "unlock" the LTE because its built into the phone? Just trying to fully understand whats keeping it from doing so.
Thanks again for the quick responses and insight.

Why not just get an att model? Less headaches. Sell the t mobile note and buy an att model

Why not just get an att model? Less headaches. Sell the t mobile note and buy an att model. I doubt flashing any att software would make lte work. Again, t mobile and att only share one (1) frequency for data. And t mobile does not have lte. They may share similar hardware but as I learned they are very different. Just get the unlock codes and try it
in theory yes, however, it seemed to be more than just the modem. It is possible that there are some other things that locked the features and without enabling the LTE funtionality, it will not work. Also just because they use the same hardware does not guarantee that every components are there. I am not hardware engineer but I think even if they use the same chip, it still needs other parts like amplifier, etc.
don't forget flashing the radio can potentially brick the phone, so always be careful when doing so
My wife and I are considering taking our tmobile phones over to AT&T. There both unlocked... Note 2 & sg3. Question I have is would I have to flash AT&T modems and roms to be able to fully utilize the new network? Just don't want to end up with bricks. AT&T already told me both devices unlocked will work fine on the network.
Wat I'm asking is if I can utilize the lte on the t-889 if I put it on AT&T? I found a bunch of threads with mixed responses.

Why's that? AT&T says I will be able to use lte since my area has it. If not I probably won't do this. As I've said I've read mixed responses. Could I flash AT&T radios to utilize it?
It will give you weak service because att and t mobile run on different bands which is hardware related not software

I dunno about that as many said everything works but LTE. I have also read a few that says they have LTE enabled. That's what's confusing. I may go to AT&T tomorrow and have them test a sim before I decide to switch. I assume if I change to AT&T apn ill get better 4g speed at least. The limitation your speaking to its a locked radio for the t-889 that prevents LTE from being enabled currently.
I can't quickly tell, but if it has LTE support on band 17 (700MHz) then it will work. It's a T-Mobile phone so it has support on band 4 which AT&T only uses for a very small part of its LTE network.
Like you said the radio it comes with might be locked to not allow LTE. If you can flash an AT&T radio without issue then you'd be able to see if it works.
If I were to guess I'd say it would have the right band since it's basically the same phone that AT&T sells.
Does it at least get hspa+ and 3G? I can wait for lte.

The AT&T rep you spoke to definitely isnt informed on the hardware issue.
If you are switching over you should just sell those two phones you have and just buy new ones since its new activation Im sure you can get a good price on the phones

From what I understand its not hardware, it's because of a radio limitation currently. Lte isn't enabled yet on the t-889. That's why I asked if I could flash a AT&T radio. As long as I get 4g and 3G ill switch. The whole point was to save $$ on buying new devices.

Well as long as I get 3G and decent hspa+ speeds ill be happy. I'll be getting the s4 anyways when it comes out. I don't have lte anyways with tmobile lol.
So I'm trading with my mother her T-Mobile sim for mine. She's going to take over my contact from Att and I'll take hers. Reason is her job well pay her bill but they want Att for some weird reason Lol. And i want the unlimited data with T-Mobile. So my question is once I unlock both phones, well I still be able to use my current rom? witch is avatar latest with KKO kennel. Would I just use an T-Mobile modem and radio or just stick with the Att radio/modem?

yea ROM shouldnt matter. Its all about the baseband or modem. Might want to hop over to the T mobile forums and ask them. Another thing you want to do with your AT&T Note is hack it so you can use T Mobiles AWS bands. The Chip in our phones is disabled right now but we have the hardware to use the T mobile bands.

Yea I'm going to. I seen an thread bought the aws band witch I plan on doing. I'm actually kinda glad my mother wants to switch the 3gb data is kinda killing me Lol. But I think an Att radio/modem should be just fine or i could be wrong.
It's actually very easy to enable the AWS band on the AT&T Note 2. T-Mobile LTE works out of the box, but for 3G (HSPA+), you need to flash a file from your computer. You don't have to be rooted though. It shouldn't void your warranty either or trip the flash counter: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2068041

Flashing another Note 2's radio (as in another carrier's/model's) to your AT&T Note 2 can actually damage it. Not physically, but you'll lose your IMEI for example and probably get stuck in a bootloop. Stick with AT&T modems. You have to reapply that flash from your computer any time you flash or reflash a modem though. But seeing as how most custom ROMs don't come with a modem, you won't be doing that often anyways.

Yea that make perfect sense. If im understanding corectly, since im going to be sticking with this rom for awhile. Once i do the aws band mod all i got to do is put the sim card in and i should be good to go.

Yes. Although you can change ROMs freely. This mod will stick until you flash a different modem (which is separate from a ROM), at which point you just flash it again.

Yes. Modems rarely need to be changed and are in a separate file 99% of the time. Kernels and ROMs and anything else can be changed as many times as you want.
What area are you in? You might see how it works stock unlocked on the refarming first. I'm quite happy with how my i717 does in Chicago.
