Hi all
My N5110 has an odd battery drain.
Normal Internet browsing with the odd YouTube vid can see the battery drop from full to 1% in as little as 2.5hrs.
The strange thing is that it will then run at 1% for a few hours before dying (with the screen dimmed due to auto power saver).
I am running civz rooted rom but have tried several different stock and custom roms, all of which have the same issue.
Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks in advance

what are your kernel settings and civ's rom version you have?...
internet dains battery very fast... so keep in mind playing hd videos using internet will drain battery very fast....
Thanks for the reply mate
Doesnt explain why it's running for hours at 1% tho, guessing the battery stats have screwed up somewhere along the line but then surely they are over written by a rom flash!?

ok,
can you explain with details how do you use your note 8 (from 100% to 1% battery), i mean what applications you use, in youtube (hd content, 1 hour length or 2, etc)
besides that, how do you install the rom?... FULL wipe (erasing internal SD card from recovery and clear cache)??
Hello.
I have one N5110 stock. After upgrading from 4.1.2 to 4.2.2, I have the same exact behaviour... very fast battery drain. On standby the Note8 uses very little battery. With the screen on browsing internet it does not get to 2 hours screen time without going below 5% and entering power save mode. Then I can still browse internet for more than a hour with the dimmed screen.... very odd. Seems like it's not callibrated or something...
If I start playing games like RealRacing3 I can depleat the hole battery in less than 30min. With the 4.1.2 version it used to last more than 2 hours playing the same game.
I'm thinking on returning the device under warranty.

The biggest issue that causes battery drain is Google Music Player... Once you go from 4.1.2 to 4.2.2. You can disable it in application settings.
ANother issue is DVFS... If rooted, you can run xposed framework and Wanam Xposed.
Opened my note 8 and disconnected the battery for 1 hour... the battery shower 1% when i did it. After reassembling the battery and back cover battery indicated 73%. Now discharging speed is back to normal...

Disabling DVFS will do the same, but will require rooting, which is safer than opening and disconnecting things.
Can you please explain what is dvfs? How do I do that?
Thanks

Well, one will need to root their device... I recommend saferoot on 4.2.2 and earlier, or CF Auto Root for 4.4.2.
Once you root, you can use xposed framework and install either Wanam DVFS for a fast and easy option or get the Wanam Xposed module and enjoy even more options.
DVFS is Dynamic Voltage File System... Samsung developed it, and it seems to be a problem with battery charge rate. There are two issues one that is how Android reads battery data. For example, if you plug in your device to charge it will estimate from polled data. So it is not as accurate as a laptop or cell phone. Becuase is uses a data base, anything can cause an issue with how the battery is being charged. With DVFS active in Touchwiz, it causes the battery polling to go out of cycle and looses perspective when charging and discharging.
I have tested and found that if DVFS is left enabled, you can get a very slow charge or a very fast drain according to how the battery polling database is out of sync.
If Android used hardware polling from the battery's smart interface, DVFS would not be an issue, and would work as designed. Since there are a few apps that kill the database and makes it start from scratch, you may find the problem reoccurring and must keep the app installed. I rather just disable DVFS and not deal with such battery optimizer apps that really don't optimize.

Lost just 20% in 16 hours. This is of course with JuiceDefender and airplane mode scheduled to run over night. But it's still impressive as we used to get battery drains even at times phone was supopsed to sleep and AirPlane mode on.
My baseband is UGKK7, but that's not what cured it, I had this baseband installed days earlier and battery drain was awful.
In my case it appears all battery problems are cured:

What's your standby current draw? In my HD2 android, I had about 4-9ma. But in Galaxy Nexus it's about 19-40ma which is pretty high. Judging from your screenshot, yours is 16ma in standby?
Possibly, I have no idea. Nexus is known from high default cpu voltage, maybe thats that or maybe it's my apps waking phone every now and then to check things, for example LED light notification app or Juice Defender.
Anyway, I'm pretty happy now, might tweak it some more when I have time, but it's now at the same level as my old SGS2, I'd say a bit better (I think I had 5% night drop on AirPlane mode on SGS2, but again it depends on apps).

That's not it, I know battery will go down when I actively use it. What I noticed is that I get great results when phone is idle. This didn't happen before, you would see battery drain even when idle at night in AirPlane mode. This means light use should also give better battery performance than before, I will be testing that.

I dont know what I did but while IDLe, I get about 1% drain per hour, thats on 3G, sync on (gmail, google+, etc), no juicedefender or airplane mode.
I only tested it overnight, when Im sleeping, notice the ZERO wake locks and crappy signal; unbelievable!
Disclaimer: this was while I was sleeping, NO usage. Battery obviously goes down much quicker once the screen is on, but for idle time, I am content!

It is not useless info. Previously, when putting in AirPlane mode and not using the phone at all we would see big battery drain. Now we don't. This is to proove that now the phone actually goes to sleep whenever I don't use it. This is proper testing before and after applying one change.

I will know next time I go to work. But since I never use it for all these 8-10 hours straight, I should have better battery, because whenever I will put the phone away, even for another 15mins, battery will stop dropping like it used to.
In other words, it will most likely still drop as usual while actively using the phone, but in overall I should get more battery because of much more efficient idle times.
With easy battery saver and power saving mode set to throttle CPU only. I'm losing about 5-8% overnight. on my custom rom/kernel HTC Evo I was losing maybe 2% at night, but during usage it would drain extremely fast. My note 2 is currently non-rooted. Before I set easy battery saver to turn off network at night i was losing closer to 15-20%

45% is a LOT to lose, especially for a newer phone like this.. are you turning mobile network off too? If not you're phone is connecting/trying to connec to 4g all night and could be draining your power. You would lose a lot less if you left wifi on, or just turned off all network altogether.
Network is not good for any carrier in my area. I can try the Wifi option tonight and see how it goes.
on 4.1.1 I was losing about 1.2% an hour. now on 4.1.2 i'm losing about .8% per hour.

Although I'm getting great battery life, I want more ^_^ Starting tonight, I am going to turn off google now. I think that is a big battery hog with my location tracking and etc. Also I purchased GSAM last night to see and in 6 hours I lost 6% I also saw that google maps was using 2nd most resources and that was kinda crappy cause I didnt even turn on google maps once.

That's about what I get as well with normal day to day use, 1.5 days. And FYI you don't want to fully drain the battery as it will damage it overtime. Even the manual says that.

I consider it fully drained when it dips down to 10% or less. I normally recharge my phone before it gets to less than 20% battery. I only go lower when I'm outside and cant charge.

I don't know how most people got better battery life, but mine worse, not extreme, but noticeable worse.
Android system and Android OS takes second and third place, which on ICS I barely see their place on top of battery usage.

Seems the same for me...at first after updating battery life was terrible..but after a few charges and reboots it seems to be getting better.
Download an app from the play store called "CPU Stats" and see if the CPU is under serious load when you're not doing anything. If it is, you may have the same issue I had which was that the media scanner was getting stuck in folders that had a lot of files in them. My idle cpu utilization now hovers between 8-30% on core 1 and core 2 stays sleep for the most part.

If you're rooted, look in system/bin on the root directory and see if you have a file named gsiff.daemon (also do the same for qosmgr) If so, add .bak to the end of it.

I offloaded my Titanium Backup folder to my PC & deleted it from my phone plus made sure to get rid of any corrupted pictures (aimed at the 0 bytes ones). So not only is my battery life better, but the performance is also much better because the CPU(s) aren't really doing anything until I actually use the phone. Note that this is an issue I've only had w/ Touchwiz Jellybean and never had it with CM10 or any AOSP based rom. This is a bug that Samsung/Google really needs to get on top of because I'm sure that a lot of people are having this problem and don't know how to fix it.

My battery life has been amazing
This was after the weekend. Friday Morning I charged it and then I was off I went to work. After I went to a party didn't charge my phone. Woke up in some girls room. Still surprised I had more than 50%. I didn't go home that day and everyone had an iphone so I couldn't charge my baby. Wake up go home and I had this much and I was like wow holy sh**.
Stats: I had a little over an hour of talk time and a little under 2 hours of screen time.
Yeah I know why is battery life good if you don't use the phone but dude seriously I had a GS2 and drainage on standby was so bad. I like that they improved standby battery drainage this was beautiful. I have the latest Stock Jelly Bean. Rooted, debloated myself with stock Kernel. Might add a new Kernel but don't really need to this is just great.

I was having this exact issue and fixed mine by copying my external SD card contents onto my desktop and then reformatting my sd card. After that I just transfered my old pictures and videos back to my card.
For people who are having poor battery life, the best thing you can do to help others help you is post a screen shot or at least write down what is using your battery and how long you have screen on time. When I was having my media issue it was obvious when looking at the battery usage since my cpu was constantly awake. Just saying "i have poor battery life" really doesn't explain much at all.
That would explain things... I had my media scanner get stuck and take down my battery a couple of days ago... after a reboot though it was much better... Though I should have let this run longer on battery just to see how long it would run.
Ok so since the JB update it seems my battery has been draining a bit faster. I've tried turning off sync and all the other normal stuff but it doesn't seem to help. Here are my stats and the slight lapse on the time line was when I was in CWM doing a nandroid backup.
I don't think that you can compare yours since you did a backup, that always drains the battery more than normal use would.
Well all I can say is its normally like that. I pull my phone off the charger at 7 am and by 4pm its usually at 10% with maybe an hour of on screen time. I'm just trying to figure out why it dies so much quicker than what most people are posting here. I try to keep everything closed and off and I've frozen all the bloatware.

My device is also draining a lot. Looked in my battery settings and saw this, so took a screenshot. Is this normal? View attachment 2402667

Thats terrible... Try turning off location.
After getting 4.4.2 as OTA battery behave as was in 4.3 if not better...
Problem no more.
I side loaded the 4.4.2 OTA on my LTE N7 2013. A few days later, I noticed the battery was draining a lot on standby in about 7 hours - it would go from 45% to 30% in 2 hours without me having done anything at all, with only Android OS taking up the battery use. Once I noticed the problem, I let the battery drain completely, sit for about an hour, charge it up with it off, and turn it back on.
Today, I have used it a bit to do some emails, web browsing, and Hangouts, and it's been 6 hours and it's only down to 93% battery from 100%. This is much more expected for me.
When you sleep, does your phone sleep, or does it stay up all night and crunch 1s and 0s? Rate this thread to express how you deem the speed at which the Samsung Galaxy S7's battery drains under standby conditions. A higher rating indicates that when the phone is not in use, the battery drains minimally.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
hi there. got my s7 few days ago and it sleeps like a baby hehe 1% lost in 6 hrs

I lost 10% of battery the past two nights. I have the always on feature turned on tho.
The mine 0,5% a hour

I typically lose about 4-5% overnight. Not bad, but not as good as a Nexus
I have a massive batterydrain in standby when I am connected to WiFi. When I'm on mobile data I have no batterydrain at all in standby
I don't have a clue why it is like this
I lose 18% over 8 hours. Maybe I'll try turning wifi off tonight. That said, battery life overall seems really good. No problems whatsoever getting through a full day on one charge.

Go to WiFi > more > keep WiFi on during sleep > off
More than likely your WiFi is causing the drain by the always scanning feature turned on

Yes, do try that. It would be interesting for me too to know.

Have that setting now but should not have to. On my S6 I have it allways on and there is no batterydrain problem.
with heavy use, 2 days battery life without charging. and also its charging is pretty fast too
I loose 1% over a 7h night on plane mode.

I bearly loose 1% per night (wifi on/always on display). Even in heavy use, the battery doesn't give up that easy...

What tweaks/optimizations do you have? Exynos version or SD820?
I have the SD820 with package disabler pro and greenify and I lose about 5% overnight...

Hey man,
I have the exynos version. Still on stock, i just used "package disabler pro" - as you do - to get rid of all the bloatwares and apps i don't use.
Oh, and i don't know if that's relevant, but i disabled the fast charge, in order not to preserve the - non switchable - battery, it still charges quite fast.
I've checked three times now, i was never below 99% when i woke up.
Hope it helps.

only lost 1% with Always on Display? That doesn't sound right
I lose about 2-3% over night without Always on Display

Yet this is. I just turn the phone back (with the screen hidden) so that the "always on" doesn't turn on.
I am having massive battery drain
My phone drops 20% in 2 hours on standby and I'm at my wits end trying to figure out why android os is taking 500mb of data a day
20% Over night absolutely not normal!
Have to recharge phone twice a day.
I am on stock and cannot apply root (this is company phone).
When I had Nexus 5, battery drain was not so horrible.
Here is a picture of my battery drain
From start I have WiFi on and then I turn WiFi off and the battery drain stops
Can't understand why WiFi is draining my battery like this ?

Anyone wanna explain wtf is going on with this, I don't have any backing up turned on. No syncing no diagnostics uploading. No Google photo no Google Drive, all of that disabled with tons of apps disabled with package pro disabler
