Does the device unlocked after it is rooted? - AT&T, Rogers, Bell, Telus Samsung Galaxy S III

I am new to this, just get it in mind.
It may be stupid but I really do not know.
Any one can answer this question?
Thank you very much.

Is the device "unlocked" if it "rooted"
Answer = They are different things not related.

Thanks a lot.
So I have to unlock the phone if I want to use another carrier's SIM.
Can I use a windmobile SIM after I unlock a Bell Samsung Galaxy S3 - SGH-i747M?

It is said the Bell Device can use a Rogers SIM after unlock but not a Wind SIM.
I have unlocked my phone by downgrade to 4.1.1 stock rom.
When I insert the Wind SIM, detected the network but only the roaming network, and I can not register to that network.
When I change to a Rogers SIM, everything works fine.
Does anyone know if there is a way to configure the Bell i747M for a Wind SIM?
Thanks a lot.

Bad IMEI-ESN works for Wind in Canada?

Hi, so my cousin is coming to visit from the states and he offered to give me a S3, locked to T-Mobile, that he has. The problem is that is has a bad IMEI. Since I'm from Canada, I don't know too much about it. I was wondering if I unlocked the S3, can I use it here in Canada on Wind Mobile, which is AWS or anyother GSM network like Rogers or Bell.
Ya you can use it on wind or mobilicity also other carriers in Canada.

When you say bad imei do you mean tmobiles blocked it, or that it was lost during a flash of a rom/mod?
I'm assuming the first, but just to clarify...

Great thanks! If you dont mind I was wondering if the bad IMEI would effect my experience with the phone in anyway? Because I know my cousin stopped paying for his bill and thats how it turned bad.

Please confirm with us OP - Wind will block it but Mobilicity will not, as far as I know. Mobilicity is not participating in this "bad IMEI" list.

Global ready?

Hey. Sorry im really for the Verizon forum but I have a quick question. Im about to root my friends phones who are about to go back to bolivia and I was wondering if this would be needed at all or is the at&t phone already global ready meaning they can just put a sim in the phone and it would function perfectly?

Rooting doesn't unlock the phone... His phone won't work on other carriers unless it is network unlocked.. Completely different from rooting.

Also in the forums in here are the instructions to do just that as well. The unlocking can be done without root from what I remember.

It also depends on the frequencies Bolivia uses. If it's the same as the US/Canada, it should be fine. But as others had mentioned, make sure the phone is carrier unlocked to you can slap on a SIM card and rock and roll.
hey sorry about the late response but how do you go about getting a phone carrier unlocked?

cellunlocker.net did the trick for me, but you can try calling att, as they also have the unlock code for your phone

Locked rogers phone. Compatible with mobilicity? Through software or whatever?

Got a phone.. Would like to know if there is a way to get it to work on the mobilicity network? Thanks.

Just unlock the Sim card.
Either find the unlock threads on here (there are a few) or phone Rogers and ask for the unlock code.

Nope. The i747-M does not have the AWS frequency support required for Mobilicity.

As long as you're unlocked, it should be fine. Might have to flash a modem for better reception.
Just to confirm I do this with my unlocked at&t s3 with no problems at all...stock modem working great. I use three for a carrier when in the UK

[Q] s3 downgrade help needed

I recently acquired a t-mobile galaxy S3 (t999l)running stock 4.1.2, however my current provider is metropcs and in order to use it i have to unlock it. I currently dont have the money to pay for that so i want to downgrade it to 4.1.1 to do it for free. I was wondering how i could go about downgrading step by step. I would also like to have it rooted.
There is no 4.1.1 for t-999l.. And you don't need to unlock T-Mobile phones to use them with metroPCS.. I know because I've worked for metroPCS.. In other words, you're good to go!!

4.1.2 is all we have

I tried putting my already activated metropcs sim card in and it asked for sim unlock code. Is there anything I can do to resolve that.

What phone did you have before? Was it cdma or gsm? It shouldn't ask for one.. also is your area using cdma or gsm network?
