[Q] Bricked? - Galaxy Note II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi
After rooting, I managed to wipe dalvik cache and internal. I'm trying to install stock rom from TWRP, but it always says that its unable to open .zip file. When connecting to USB the MTP USB driver fails (I've tried all the attempts with in getting in into download mode, but with no luck). I've got TWRP 2.3.2.3. Any ideas or ROM's which I can boot with here is my device bricked?

Try to install another rom or check the drivers at your computer(By uninstalling them at device manager), connect it to another pc and see if that works. Aslong as your phone can boot into download there shouldn't be anything to be worried about. You could also try to download philz recovery. Either by flashing it, if you manage to get download mode working, or trying that zip to be installed in TWRP.

I don't like TWRP at all as it has brought me bad expiriences. I'd rather choose Philz recovery, which is just the stock way of installing them zips .
Hope you can get further by these instructions, Good luck. If you got any questions; instead of finding them out yourself, just ask

Thanks for the reply! philz did get installed with TWRP and worked after next reboot. But I'm still getting the same message when I try "Install zip" and select the below roms. You know any rom which work for sure? It says Cant open <ROM-Filepath> (bad) on both. The zipfiles are openable through windows
N7100XXDMC3_N7100OXXDMC2_NEE (Stock N7100 for nordic countries)
GT-N7100_WanamLite.XXUEMI6.V4.0.NO-WIPE.zip

Hmm, very strange. Are you installing from a sdcard? Maybe it is corrupted so it doesn't install. You could try placing the zip file into your internal storage and then try to install it from here.

It was actually my usb2microSD which was faulty. It was messing up all the files it was writing and the funny thing was that windows7 reported all file copies as success. Anyhow, its fixed once I got the .,zip files copied correctly. That was the only way too (through sd load) ODIN coul'd make a connection. Thx for all the help!

[Q] Custom ROM Installation Help

I have the Galaxy S III SGH-i747m model on stock Jelly Bean 4.1.1 ROM on the Canadian Rogers network. (I live in BC)
I have been trying, unsuccessfully, to install a custom ROM. I have rooted and installed Super User, and have flashed the TWRP Recovery ROM v2.4.1.0 I still have the stock kernel and haven't mucked around in the permissions besides installing SuperUser SU app from Google Play store. Right now, I have managed to wipe out my entire internal storage. I have everything backed up on the google server, so I'm not too worried, but I have no OS right now. Regardless, I have tried many times with many different custom ROMs, and everytime I get a Status 7 error and a failed ROM flash. I have been trying for weeks to find out what I'm doing wrong, but can't seem to find anything that works. Can anyone please help me out with a step by step guide to install a custom rom? Heck, even to re-install my stock ROM would be better than nothing at this point. The last guide I tried to follow was Cyanogenmod 10.1. The file was called Liquid Smooth.
I currently have the ROM file and the gapps pakage on my external SD card, but, everytime I try to install it I get that Status 7 error.
Thanks in advance.

Yes...stupidly... I formatted as well, thinking that that might solve the problem. Where can I get the latest recovery version? And, sorry, I'm new, so, not sure what you mean by "hit me back". But thanks for the reply.

make sure you have the correct ROM and gapps (compatible with your model). then i would try a different recovery.
you could download this flashable clockworkmod recovery zip and place it on your external sd card: http://d-h.st/8qP
it's not a touch version. you'll have to use the vol up and vol down buttons to navigate and the power button the select.
in twrp, mount external sd and then flash the CWM recovery like you would a rom. reboot into recovery.
make sure the external sd is still mounted and flash ROM & gapps twice. reboot

I can't seem to do anything now. Did I brick my phone?
Can you not get into recovery any more? If you can why dont you post the links for the rom you are trying to install and we can tell you if its the right one. Also do you have a external SD card to put the ROM and Gapps on

he has the rom and gapps on the external already.
if you can get into download mode, i'd try restoring via odin
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1968625&highlight=stock+firmware
1. Extract contents of the zip/rar archives
2. Wipe data-factory reset/cache/dalvik-cache
3. Plug phone into PC
4. Place the phone in Download Mode (vol dwn + home + power). Press volume up when prompted
5. Open Odin and ensure the COM box is highlighted, detecting your device
6. Uncheck the Auto Reboot option
7. In the PDA box, select the .tar.md5 file you downloaded
8. Flash the file by hitting Start
9. Once you get a Success message, pull the battery and then replace. Immediately go into recovery (vol up + home + power. release power button at Galaxy S3 logo and/or vibrate).
10. Select Wipe data/factory reset, then wipe cache. Reboot
you can then do some research and decide what files/procedures you want to try if you wish to root again and flash custom firmware
Thanks for the help guys. I am attempting to restore my phone right now. Will let you know how it went.
OK! Up and running! And I have it rooted with the latest TWRP recovery image installed. Now I just need to find a good custom ROM. Thanks againg guys!

t mobile galaxy s4 totaly bricked

I tied to flash the pac-man 4.2.2 ROM to my rooted s4. It worked but all the Google apps did not come with it... so I downloaded an app package off of GooManeger. Anyway after reboot it was obvious the app package was not compatible. Wiped phone, then no ROM, no OS, no nothing. Device doesn't get past initial boot screen. I can get into download and recovery mode. Not really sure how to download anything on my phone right now as my computer doesn't recognize it anymore. My recovery mode is TeamWin. I'm sure there's more you want to know so please ask and I appreciate your help.

You need to start from scratch using ODIN and flash the stock/non rooted Tmobile Samsung Galaxy S4 M919 firmware.
(using download mode in the phone)
Here is the download link: http://www.hotfile.com/dl/213469534/9ff06bd/M919UVUAMDL_M919TMBAMDL_TMB.zip.html
After the odin flash you will need to root the phone unless you want to keep it stock.
Good luck!

You may have wiped the /system folder which may explain why your phone is stuck on the booting sequence. As the poster said above, use Odin to flash the stock MDL and root again. As far as your computer not recognizing it. Put the phone into download mode (Vol Down + Home + Power), plug the phone into a different USB port (and let the drivers install if it's the first time you're plugging your phone in that port for Windows users), and then open up Odin and flash the stock firmware from there. Let us know if Odin recognizes your phone.
If you can still get into download mode and recovery, you are NOT totally bricked.

Recovery is not working
Got phone back to normal, then accomplished root access. Downloaded clock work and now recovery mode does not work. I downloaded CW from hot file. I was sure to download the right one for my phone... anyway I cant factory reset at the moment, it just sticks at recovery boot screen. What I'm trying to accomplish is download CW, pacman 4.3 ROM, and Gapps.

You gotta be careful where you're getting your files from man.
Try Philz CWM flash via Odin
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2322676
You could also Odin back to stock (you know how to do that now:good
Root again and use ROM Manager to install CWM.

Start using and MD5 hash checker to make sure your downloads are not corrupted. :silly:
Odin back to stock and re-root. IIRC, CWM should be available from the Play store where you can then open the app and install/update the libraries. Didn't Pacman ROM include CWM?
Thank you guys for the advice. Super usefull
I was under the impression I needed to download a download a recovery mod first. Where is the best place to get my ROMs? I'm real interested in the pacman. I extracted the pacman files but it wont plug into the PDA in Odin. Also MD5 hash checker is something I've never heard of..

You need to have a working custom recovery first. Like Skipjacks stated, you flash ROM in the custom recovery.
I think you should start from the beginning and take it step by step.
I assumed at this point you're rooted on the stock ROM with stock recovery?
If not lets get to that stage and we can go from there.
-Stock ROM rooted with stock recovery
-Flash custom recovery
-Nandroid backup
-Flash custom ROM<<You are here

Derp moment. CWM != ROM Mgr. :silly: Thanks for the clarification.
I did it all with exception of flashing the ROM. Every time I try to flash the pacman 4.3 it fails. Any suggestions on how to fix that or should I turn my attention so a different ROM. I'm going for optimization and complete customization, without needing a launcher. Or maybe a suggested ave to customize touch wiz to the fullest.

I have no external sdcard inserted in the tab. I hoped i would be able to flash the files i copied on the tab.
I kinda have the same problem, Im going to follow this thread...
I may be late for dinner but here is how I flash roms on my 5210. If the rom is the OEM Stock Rom, I flash it from ODIN. This HAS to be done this way. There is no other way to flash OEM Stock Rom.
If I am going to flash something like Grievous or Pimpdroid or BinDroid, I will load the rom on to my internal memory Download folder. Then from TWRP I select install and it goes straight to the download folder. However, before I install any of these roms I will wipe the cache and dalvik cache. Is this wise? I don't know, I just do it because most of what I have read has indicated it should be done.
So if you are still having issues, reload from fresh the OEM Stock Rom for you device. Then reload your favorite Recovery (CWM or TWRP). Set up your device for the minimal way you want to use it. Now, from either CWM or TWRP (or whatever backup app you have) backup your device and save it to your PC. This way you can always go back to standard/stock.
From here you would load the Root.zip AND the rom you want to load on the internal download folder (note - if the rom is already rooted there is no need to load root.zip). Now go into recovery and install the root. Restart then shutdown. Note - you may have to update the SuperSU or Superuser app. Go back into recovery and install the rom.
This is how I have done it and it has worked for me. I am sure I have loaded and reloaded several times different roms. However, I always come back to the Stock ROM via backup restore. I haven't found a rom worth using.
This is how I do it. Your device may not react in the same way mine does. So I advise you on the side of caution that you could damage your device if you follow what I do. Not saying what I do is wrong, but it is how I go about loading and unloading different roms. The key for me is I use the backup/restore from TWRP. I find it to be very fast.
Good luck!
ps... if you have already done this and it did not work, my apologies for coming to party too late.
Thank you for your help. I allready tried this procedure. It all works well, the problem starts with the custom roms i try to install, They install fine but when they boot up I get various forceclose messages. Unusable.
I suspect the isue is with the roms. I have not yet found a working rom for GT-P5220.
Has anyone found some working rom for this specific device?

[Q] (Q) accidentally wiped OS ,Need help getting OS back on sgh-i747

To start I bought this phone from a friend was working fine. It seemed to be rooted after going to recovery mode and realizing it was a custom recovery that I got into. I've had plenty on iPhones and androids , so far this is the first time after hours of research and trying everything that I've had to make a post asking for help. I have a sgh-i747 pebble blue ATT phone. It had 4.3 OS on it and was rooted before I acidentally wiped the OS off of it. I've tried the past few days to use Odin to get the stock firmware back on, I've tried 4.0.1 - 4.3 , no luck. Odin recognizes phone after I click start after choosing the md5 tar file it either says fail or stays at setupconnection. I've tried many times over and over unistalling and re installing drivers , kies, and downloading different firmware and every version of Odin. I need help guys please , thanks alot

Since your phone was on 4.3, the only thing you can do now would be a stock restore to 4.3. Please see the thread below for the stock restore zip as well as instructions. You may use another device to copy the stock restore zip to an external SD card and then place this card in your phone, then flash from (custom) recovery. Odin cant help you now except to flash custom recovery if you need to redo this.

Good you have TWRP already. You can try to see if you can save the zip to your phone's internal memory as the PC may be able to recognize it in download or recovery mode. Otherwise, you may try using any other device at all that accepts (micro) SDHC card e.g. camera, card adapter etc. You may also be able to flash the zip directly from your PC using the desktop flasher. See thread with instructions below ...

Let me know if this works for you.

Of course, you need to first download the stock recovery zip for TWRP to your PC.

Glad to know your phone is now working fine. To root or not is a choice you'll have to make depending on how much control you want over your phone. The pros are that you literally have control over your phone in terms of installing apps or making modifications to the operating system. You can install custom ROMs and/or apps that you would otherwise not be able to install. The con, of course, is security and integrity of your phone. There is always a risk that you may end up bricking your phone or creating access for malware. Rooting should, therefore, be something you do only if you have need for it.
... Just Odin stock ROM and work from there or if twrp isn't latest... Odin latest recovery and then USB files into phone using recovery and then flash... Or again just use odin to flash and then do whatever you want afterward

Tab Pro 10.1 ROM problem - tablet hung

My tablet kept locking on the SAMSUNG startup screen. Previously, I had to do a hard reset. It just happened again. Now I think the original ROM image is lost or damaged. I can do a hard reset, but upon reboot, it does not load the factory image and ask the new computer questions. I have the Wi-Fi SM-T520 and can't find a stock ROM for it.
I downloaded the GraveD ROM 3.0 zip file. But I don't know how to install it. I tried to install update from external device. I put the ZIP file on the sd card and selected the file, but that did nothing. I am very much a beginner at this.
Any advice?

Are you on a custom ROM? Do you have a custom recovery?
- If yes, just download CM12.1 for picassowifi from here: http://cyanogenmod.altervista.org/ and flash it (and gapps ARM-5.1) and enjoy!
If you are pure stock in all respects:

I am running a stock ROM. I assume that I have to root the device first. I downloaded USB_Drivers_1.6.27.0.exe. Win10 will not let me run it "This publisher has been blocked from running software on your machine.". I did some searches and cannot get it to run.
I also tried skipping this step and tried running CF-Auto-Root-picassowifi-picassowifixx-smt520.tar.md5 from the sd card using external option and I get a signature error.
If I use Odin3-v3.10.6.exe, the program "sees" the usb in ID:COM. However after a long wait it reports Fail.
I also tried installing GraveD_V3.0 for the sd card and got the same signature error.
I am close to giving up!
Saw a link to fix the win10 error. Tried it?
https://www.technipages.com/windows-10-fix-this-publisher-has-been-blocked-from-running-software
Also see if you can install win7 in virtualbox and use that.
I remember having a hard time finding the right drivers myself for the download mode. But once i was able to get twrp installed on it, i am free

Before anything else, please download the three things you need to resurrect your tablet. With Cyanogenmod download servers gone, there's no telling when (and if) you might be able to find another mirror. I was lucky enough to find one myself by intense googling
CM12.1 final nightly (the BEST ROM) for SM-T520
https://archive.org/download/cmarchive_nighlies/cm-12.1-20161016-NIGHTLY-picassowifi.zip
OpenGapps.org -> ARM, 5.1, pico (or whichever variant you want)
TWRP custom recovery for SM-T520 - Download link and instructions available here:
https://twrp.me/devices/samsunggalaxytabpro101exynoswifi.html
You don't need root to put TWRP, do it through bootloader (you need Odin and drivers for it at the minimum). Follow instructions very precisely under the section "Odin Install Method (No Root Required)"
I really hope you can bring back the tab to life and get CM12.1 on it. I can feel your pain as I went through the same

Also found this (says works with Win10):
http://www.odindrivers.net/
Remove all previously installed Samsung drivers and/or Odin tool before installing from here.

LOL, one more thing. Be sure to copy the CM12.1 zip and opengapps zip to your internal storage (or SD card) first. So that by the time you are able to install TWRP successfully and can get inside it, you already have everything you need.
Once in TWRP, do an advanced wipe, wipe out cache/dalvik/system/data (NOT internal storage and SD card). Then "Install" and choose the CM12.1 zip FIRST, then "add more zips", choose opengapps zip second; then flash zips; reboot.
hello
i think if you have a problem with a recovery you must install an other recover
cfautoroot is ok for that
before copy a rom zip on an sd card
then install cfautoroot with odin the tablet will boots on cmw recovery
then install a new rom and a new recovery
in cfautoroot you have drivers and recovery
don't use drivers from kies or smart switch
regards
