Torrents - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy Note 3

Has there been a fix released for the super slow downloading of torrents? Yesterday I couldn't even get them to start downloading unless I went onto wifi yet my brother on his note 2 was downloading them at nearly 1 meg a second. It's ridiculous that the phone throttles torrents ! :banghead:

i use Kickass Torrents and have no problems im getting 400+Kb/s.

This is what I did to fix the problem, which annoyed me to no end. Just create an apn identical to the preloaded one. In the apn block change fast.t-mobile.com to the old epc.tmobile.com. download speeds will return. In my area I have crappy lte, so I turned it off and use the wcdma/gsm network mode and I still get high download speeds

this is one taken the other night, after changing the apn on using only 4g, no lte

not necessary to do that. if you have "4G" and know you get good speeds just go into settings and change it to WCDMA only. and change apn to IPV4.
As i currently am downloading at 1.1Mb/s

Thing is though in my area my lte is awesome but the torrent speeds suck. Tried changing to wcdma etc and it just as slow. Don't know wtf is causing it but it's really annoying

how about lte only through service mode (*#2263#) choose LTE band Pref. chose B4 and key input 1. so that'll just only use LTE and choose ipv4 versus 6 and see what happens? what torrent app are you using. like i said i use Kickass which allows you to search/download them all in one app. i just was able to complete 4GB in roughly an hour with only "4G" and it was going from 400Kb/s-1.2Mb/s.

since when is talking about pirating allowed here?

Did you try the epc.tmobile.com apn with the apn protocol set to ipv4? You can still pickup lte on that apn, I just need someone else to help test this theory out.

Not all torrents are pirating so... i or him didn't mention pirating a game or program. We just said torrents.
For instance I download pc magazines. And if you think that's pirating then apparently going to Barnes and Noble sitting down and reading magazines, then putting them back must be also considered pirating.

It is implied. Also...kickasstorrents = not a freeware site. Do not talk to me like I a stupid dude.
It is quite rare to find people that use torrenting in a non pirating way. Annoying when people use loopholes to get passed the rules.

I will gladly cease talking about this inappropriate subject. But as a departing fact. A piracy topic that is all over xda though.. One in particular is free tethering (mobile hot spot) which uses exploits (loopholes) to use a carrier's paid service without their consent. Funny how no one points that out as piracy though

You're going to want to get into settings then under the connections tab hit more networks, than hit mobile networks, than choose selected apn. Lastly go down to apn protocol and choose ipv4.

It's only implied because you want to make that assumption. My company uses torrents to distribute massive amounts of photographic data we use to do analysis on and at times it's convenient to se it on my phone during a break or on a long train ride. Don't turn this into something it's not just because you want to get on a soap box.

I use torrents every day for work, nothing to do with pirating.

I see your point. Happy now? Kickasstorrents is for legal files...I doubt your work affiliates with them which was my point towards piracy not that you said that.

I'll never understand why companies do this (own several different brands). All it does is decrease the effectiveness of your marketing. Why does GM need to sell 20 different midsize vehicles all under different brands? Why does sprint need Virgin and Boost.

Having different brands can be easier than trying to explain the differences between your products. For instance, Sprint's offerings have features like roaming, nights and weekends, mobile to mobile, LTE, etc, while Virgin Mobile doesn't. It's probably less confusing for the average consumer to view two brands than to have Sprint explain, "This is a 300 minute plan, but it's not the same as these other plans because it's missing these features." Instead, Sprint gets to market VM as a full service provider to people who don't know what they're missing.

Data Connectivity Issues After Reassigning APN ATT

Hi, I have a stock GS3 on ATT and I live in an area without much LTE coverage so I manually reassigned my APN to utilize 4G versus LTE because my battery life was abysmal constantly searching for the LTE signal. Ever since I'm experiencing complete cellular data drops about 20 times a day. Zero bars, zero data, zero connectivity. It's not a huge deal it's just annoying. Is there a fix for it and is that even why it's happening? Before this I had an iPhone 4 and never had connectivity issues on 3G With cellular or data. Thanks!

You need to add more to your APN type. It should read exactly like this:
default,supl,mms,hipri
No caps, big spaces between commas, nothing less, nothing more. Give it a try and see if that corrects your issue.
If that doesn't work, please search for and read my thread on APN settings in the Samsung Infuse forums development section. I support all AT&T devices there.

T-Mobile LTE APN works on Simple Mobile.

I have Note ii and yesterday updated to 4.1.2. I thought that the APN setting intact as Simple Mobile setting, and I kept using it untill now. Then I found out that I am using T-Mobile LTE APN Setting, which they worked fine. and even more the internet speed is 14mbs. even even more I have test the MMS and it does work too. I am waiting for t-mobile to switch LTE so I can check the speed. that will be awesome. btw I am from Houston, TX.

Are you sure you're using the T-Mobile LTE APN? I'm pretty sure the standard connectivity speed for T-Mobile is 14 Mbps. Any incorrect or unknown APN will also be routed directly to the network's default, so it would help to know exactly which setting you are using.
Thanks!

You will see "4G LTE" instead of just "4G" on the top of your notification when it's enabled in your area. I'm keeping my fingers crossed also. When LTE is working you will also see a big difference with your upload speed as well.

How much has the speed increased by the LTE thing? Like before and after updating APN thing.

Force HSPA+ mod?

It seems like pages would load faster if the radio was forced to stay on HSPA+ rather than going back to umts then waiting that second for it to jump back on HSPA. Anyone ever heard of a mod that makes the radio stay on HSPA network?
There's definitely a difference between the both in terms of speed. I came from Verizon and there LTE network was good but not great. I get better speeds at home on t-mobile but better at work on Verizon. There network was good at going through walls. The big difference is there LTE radio is always on forcing fast speeds out the gate. It's always on. If there was a mod to just force the radio to stay on HSPA there wouldn't be much of a difference between the both when it comes to user experience. It's not a big deal but was curious if anyone ever heard of such a thing.
Please exclude the I9505 build prop as I'm enjoying one of the international builds at this time. Again my data is good but forcing this HSPA network to stay on would definitely improve user experience. Maybe one day I will have the skills to create such a mod
Wishful thinking. Thanks community and please don't flame this thread. I'm in Q&A and it's just a thought

If you're on a Samsung phone, type *#*#4636#*#* in the dialer. Open Phone information. There'll be a drop down list saying 'Set preferred network type'. You can force LTE only or WCDMA only etc there. There are other options too, depending upon the phone.

Temporary work around for when you are throttled.

If you aren't rooted and throttled by att, I found a temp fix that will work for a little bit to get boosted speed. I noticed that if you call your voicemail your note 2 will go into 4G instead of LTE letting you access 4G speeds even if you are throttled. Try it out!
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using xda app-developers app
That didn't work for me.
Interesting anecdote. Might have something to do with HD voice on UTMS. See if you can replicate and post back.
The best way to do this is to keep an active data connection. Then place a call and end it after connecting and it will stay in 4G. BAM. I'm only 4 days in and been throttled. Now I have 4G speeds which is def better than 500kps
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using xda app-developers app
I think they changed the way they throttle. Right at 5gb I get 60kb/sec speed for a day, the next day it's back to full speed for a while.
As of using internet while in a call - I found it's impossible, because the upload speed drops below dialup (1kb/sec!) it means any page requests take ages to reach the server.
I don't use internet while using the phone. I just use it to put it into 4g mode. Works for me.
