Hello!
Thread especially made for headphone segment of the Xperia X8.
Also if you need help with picking a headphones for your phone post here,
i'll help if i can.
P.S.Sennheiser CX500 G4ME arriving in 2weeks so i'll pop a review and comparison beetwen the stock one and these.
I just got my X8 today and tried using it with my aftermarket iPhone ones and found they didn't work at all.
It works with the included headphones of course, but they're not very good (they don't even hold in my ears very well, which is a worry when I'm hoping to use them while running or cycling) and it works with ordinary (no microphone) 3.5mm headphones.
The plug of the iPhone headphones looks similar to the one of the Sony headphones but for some reason the X8 completely ignores them, it doesn't even send sound to the earphones let alone take microphone input.
Meanwhile, the Sony ones work on my iPod but they're extremely quiet.
Can someone confirm that this is in fact true generally, not just for my (two pairs of) iPhone headphones which I tried?
Is there any way I can get iPhone headphones to work with it (desirable because these earphones are easy to find and buy, relatively cheap and with wide choice) or do I have to stick with special Sony ones?
A major reason behind me getting my new phone was that I was sick of the crap Nokia pulled with my old phone requiring proprietary headphones with their connector. It's nice that the X8 works with standard non-microphone 3.5mm earphones, but what's the deal with microphone ones?
I use this nokia headphones for my xperia. Mic works as well as call button. All other nokia headphones with volume control won't work!
Xperia has unique jack for headphones with music controls...and I hate them for that! Original ones for music player are too expensive
I use the same ones as they're great for skype!
I1m using sennheiser HD 518 and they are great !!
Stock X8 headphones are sh%t.
Previously, I had a SE W810i Walkman and I must say, that hearing to the music (with stock headphones) was a real pleasure - very close to iPhone IMO.
So, when I bought X8, I was truly unsatisfied.
Then I decided to buy OEM SE MH810 stereo - AFAIK it comes with Xperia X10 mini Pro. That was a good choice - quite goood sound quality and I can control music player app (volume up/down, next/previous, play/pause).
I bought the mh810 and i use them while cycling.
The headphones are excellent. Its a shame they don't work on the big x10
I got mine for £12 off ebay
Sent from my E15i using XDA App
Has anyone tried something like this - bluetooth stereo headphones?
i used to use blue-tooth stereo headphones on my mobile previously but a different model from those. i found there was quite high battery drain, but that might have been just my phone..

Confirmed. SE stock does not work with IPods, well you could make it work by pulling the connector out a little. It's due to the speaker part of the connector is differently recognized by SE and Apple. My apple headphones broke down a long time ago so can't test.
OEM SE headphones that come out of the box with W810i work pretty well, but the wire is short.

hi guys,
Just wonder if anyone can suggest what would be the best android mobile to play music and having a decent camera and of course a normal battery life ( if possible ) ?? lets say middle range not the newest ones that cost a fortune
thanks,
I believe the Defy is a pretty good phone for music (haven't tested many phone though). Nice, full frequency response and pretty wide sound stage. Better than the average notebook.
Sent from my Moto Defy
oh alright i didnt even know becasue never used my phone to listen music haahha just to test different roms
thanks for reply
any other suggestions ??
...
IMHO I never trust the speakers when listening to music.
If you ask me what phone best for listening, I will tell you "Get a normal phone, uses a good android mp3 player, and buy the BEST EARPIECE/headphone"
That's better.
sorry guys, but iPhone 4 id the best phone for music. I had ipod touch before defy, and you can't compare these two when it comes to music over headset, and the problem isn't in the headset

I agree with you... iPhone4 or iPod are the best in sound quality no matter how we don`t love apple.
also... Android EQ sucks!!! currenty on CM7 and miss Motorola`s audio effect settings which I think that were very good. I can`t get proper sound on my headset no matter what DSP or audio app with EQ i use
thanks guys for the interest,
thats what I thought too, to get an ipod and a decent mobile but its not for me and we all no how hard is to explain women technology (no offence to any of course lmao ) she just wants all the goodies in one device. Iphone 4 would be perfect for a girl that wont play with a software as much as we do but it cost too much so its a no no.
has anyone came across xperia arc? or xperia ray? Ray is the one she wants but because ..." it s beautiful " .....I think not LOL
I ve read lots of reviews about different phones but unfortunately some of those reviews were worth f*** all, they said that our defy if well worst then that silly ray and we all now that its not true
sony would be my next pick for music. don't know how it sounds from first hand.
buy her a iphone 3gs, its beautiful and it's an iphone but lower price than 4g
i was thinking about that but some people who had 3Gs said that even 3G was better lol anyway im not the boggest fan of apple, to be honest i think all their mobiles are well overpriced and me after entering andorid world i would go for anything else
there is another one HTC desire HD with sound blast or something like that but you cant trust those reviews really and Ijust wonder if anyone here can clear the situation
xperia arc , experia ray or HTC deisre HD or ????
...just realized taht we are on a dev forum for probably every single mobile so I could have asked in a particular section but I know that everyone would say that their phones are the best though.
for listening to music, defy sucks big time
the only good thing is the speaker that is ok loud, but listening to any of headseats it sounds terrible, the best sound I got was through cm7 custom rom, but it wasn't even close to ipod/iphone
yes, I agree the speaker is quite alright dont know about the headphone cos never tested it lol

Dunno about sound quality of overpiced Apple products, but the sound quality of the Defy is quite good actually. I use PowerAMP to play lossless FLAC audio files on my Defy using a Sennheisser MM 500 Bleutooth stereo headset.
I totally agree: Defy sounds good. But you can't judge a phone without specifying the headphones (HeadDirect RE0 in my case)
As a simple player I recommend Sandisk Clip+. Simple, small, cheap and with great sound. Everybody says it is one of the best portable players around.
Have a nice day!
Sent from my Moto Defy
thanks for all suggestions I might even consider getting proper headset for defy
will have a look on that clip+ too but im sure she will choose some silly phone and regret after 6 mothns lol
anyway thanks again........
I'm using Defy for music. Im very satisfied. Using Meelectronics M9P earphones, mp3 with high bitrates and the quality is impressive (for my standards).
I'm planning to try this earphones in IhatePhone to see what is the difference...
Try a Samsung galaxy s with voodoo sound. I don't think even the s2 sounds as good.

I'm quite an Audiophile, I cant for my life stand low quality music / crappy headphones.
The ones included with the defy are not _THAT_ bad, they actually have some decent bass, but any noise around you will destroy any good sound they can put out.
I got myself this baby: AKG 830 BT
Its the most amazing headphone I have used.
You can NOT use these phones on the Defy with Stock rom, or any other Bluetooth Headphones for that matter, the sound quality is total crap. All Stock roms have a "bit pool rate" rather low so it works with more Headphones but the sound is horrible.
You gotta get CM7 and not use any kind of EQ or "sound enhancer", all these "enhancers" actually deteriorate the sound quality and distort the music.
All in all the sound quality on the Defy is really good, the most important thing is to get a good earphones/headphones.
Choose Defy + because has a larger battery than old Defy , more power, more miusic
You can also buy cheap Defy, and also buy new batery from Defy+ 1700mAh (but it still have problem with batery module in the old ROM..
Buying old Defy watch out for models with factory defects as incorruptible speaker.
Hi guy, Am planning to get new headphones for myself..i do have beats monster in ear but dont like them much..
bcoz they lack the bass effect which i enjoyed on my previous walkman phones..
My question is if i buy sony ericcson headphone will it work on HOX..??
Thanks in advance

As long as its a normal 3.5mm jack audio port. Which most headphones today are, they will almost certainly work.
Guys, I will be having a Verizon xperia Play in a few days. I wanted to ask what is your view on sound quality and bass as compared to phones like nexus S?
Well for me sound quality isn't equivalent to the amount of bass. My suggestion is to simply upgrade the headphone for that or buy a phone with hip branding such as DrDre phones.
I care more about clarity and I must say the Play have excellent sound quality, to my ears comparable to the Galaxy S though with smoother signature. I have to say Galaxy S with Voodoo kernel have the edge especially the RMAA test show the S with more accurate responses, but I prefer the way the Play is tuned for the ears. Also the stereo speakers are better.
I am actually not fond of supporting Sony, but if their other phones sound this good with similar smooth sound I might have to consider them for the future because good sounding Android phones are not abundant, especially coming from the Galaxy S.

Thanks buddy for your view on this.
I have a pair of AKG 518 and a Sennheiser HD202 and i gotta say that the best sound quality i've listen is from the iPhone/iPod.
I've never tested the Nexus S, but others phones like Nexus (I don't know how different from Nexus S is), Galaxy SII, Galaxy Ace, and for me, as lekhwani said, the Galaxy is probably a better option with the voodoo kernel (and even wihtout it). The Xperia Play doesn´t have a bad sound quality, but does not satisfied a person who is looking for the best sound quality in music.
If you care more about the music than the games and you don´t have enough money, you should probably go for an iPhone 3G.
Talking about headphones, if you really like a heavy bass, the Dr. Dre Beats Audio headphones are good, but if you really want to listen to a better and clear audio you should try something from AKG, Sennheiser or AIAIAI (go to a BestBuy and try yourself).
In my personal opinion Xperia Play sound quality is not good enough, not even with apps like poweramp or walkman player. The only really good thing in the XPlay is the stereo speaker.
Why are you exactly getting an Xperia Play?

Of course Xperia Play has the loudest sound in smartphones world because it has 2 speakers
But when talking about the purity, I think there are phones have a purer sound
i've actually tested the xperia play vs my brothers galaxy nexus and the play actually had better mids and highs with better overall sound.
i'm in music production and used both hd-650's and yamaha hs-50's.

Guys, I received mine about a few hours back. I am very much impressed with the build quality.
But seems I have some problem. Mine did not come with earphones. I have tried several others earphones and headphones. The sound seems muffled and abnormal and bass is completely missing and lyrics are very low. .
I researched a bit and found that my phone might have one of these issues.
1.Faulty Device, or
2.Proprietary Xperia Play Earphones needed.
I used extreme bass on Power AMP but saw no bass. Also used equalizer app to no avail.
I tried brainwavz, skull candy, creative, philips, lg, Sony Ericsson Xperia pro mk16i earphones. But the sound was not much different in any of these.
Kindly suggest me what do?
You need to get some xperia play earphones or an adapter
It should be fine with regular stereo headphones, but for headset it must be Sony.

The galaxy nexus is known to have a poor sounding dac (by TI I think), so is the SII (Yamaha). The Galaxy S and international SIII are the ones with Wolfson dac. The dac for the Qualcomm S4 phones are supposed to sound decent to.

I have tried various stereo earphones and headphones, but no difference in sound.
I tried Xperia pro earphones also. No difference.
Can a adapter or original Xperia play earphones make any difference?
Or, do I have a faulty device?

Probably is just me but i'd rather how my headphones sound in the Galaxy SII that in my Xperia Play.
I use a $10 pair of headphones I got from gamestop, along with this app https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.smartandroidapps.equalizer and xloud (not sure if it helps or not for headphones, but it does for speakers)....I hear noticeable bass and I don't use the adapter.

Hi Friends after using Xperia neo v for years, today i bought xperia z1 compact, before buying the phone i thought sony only su**s in camera but audio output from earphone is also poor and variable.
I'm currently using Soundmagic es18 and the problem is when there is bass part in the song the volume is very low and as the bass part of the song finishes and the guitar part comes it becomes very very loud that can hurt the ears. Is there any solution for this without rooting the phone.
Why is there no general chat thread for this phone.........................

Clear audio just increases the treble and reduces the bass, nothing more special in the settings.
I have moto X also which just blow out my sound magic ES18. And sony V55 and Razer electra produces just whispering(i mean low) sound in Z1 but with moto x they work phenomenal.
I think z1 compact sound system is not that powerful enough to produce bass as well as loudness at the sametime.
I don't know what is happening to sony they are reducing the quality of phones, missing sony ericsson walkman phone.
Finally fixed the fluctuating audio problem and if there any thing to fix camera, my friends galaxy grand take much clearer and vivid picture then this piece of junk.

No really fixed it, i changed equalizer setting. change equalizer setting to a setting which has low bass. Also disable surround sound for better result.
