Speakers - One (M7) Accessories

What case will protect the HTC One's speakers besides the Double Dip Case and the OEM case? I need something that can protect it. A screen protector will also work if it covers the speakers. Thanks.

I think the intention of leaving the speakers uncovered is so they can be heard -- one of the selling points of the HTC One as well. If you cover them they can't be heard. Maybe there's some out there that include speaker cutout holes with tight fabric to protect the speakers but stop stuff from dropping in.
You could always put on some duct or electrical tape (durable), or squish on some Glad Press-n-Seal wrap on them. (not as durable but still effective) Or you could get an extra screen protector, cut bits out to fit the speaker grills and then squish them on the speakers.

I got the Double Dip case actually.

Nice, haven't seen that one but haven't been looking. Looks like it has holes for the speakers.

Yeah, it is what I want: something to protect the speakers and still allows me to enjoy them. It is hard shell case, so it will work. I also have an Otterbox Commuter, but I have to return that.

Which is better between the two cases you have?
In terms of protection, style and comfort for everyday use.
Thanks.

I've heard the double dip case scratches the sides of the phone. As far as protection the Commuter case is excellent.... Don't return it.

otterbox Defender questions

so I just bought the Otterbox Defender for my Atrix 4G, and for some reason, on the top left corner, if I squeeze it, I feel a little give, of maybe like half a millimeter, but IDK if that means its defective or what? Also, whats a good way to clean a screen cloth to get the dust off? I love this thing, and my screen is very clean but there is like one or two small specks of dust I cannot stand looking at.
It will eventually get stretched out more and more as you use it. That's one of the biggest flaws of the Otterbox Defender.
My wife has had it for about a month and she's completely given up on it, as it's almost impossible (for her) to use the fingerprint scanner, and because of how she used to tug on the silicon protecting the charging port, the bottom is all stretched out too. YMMV.
Hope this helps...

whats a better case then? Should I just return this and get the candyshell? I'm actually thinking of just taking the otterbox screen protector off and putting a new one on, I cannot stand to even see a speck of dust under it.

@ _Alex_ : The second link I posted for the Seidio Active case would suit your wife very well. That case does not hinder the fingerprint scanner at all, and its still offers a reasonably good amount of protection. Its also available with a holster. (I do not have the holster so I can't comment on it) I do love the case though. I've dropped my Atrix twice from about 4ft up (im a big guy, 6'4" tall) onto concrete, once landing on its side, the second face down. No damage to my Atrix at all, barely scratched the silicone skin of the case (its a two piece case, silicone case with a skeletal snap-on piece for extra strength and corner protection).
Honestly I have the defender and love it I use the clip everyday and it has a bit of play like yours but I haven't had any streaching and I've had it for a little over a month. I sometimes gwt trouble with the fingerprint reader but if you dont use it than that dosnt matter but I am defanitly trying out that upcoming ballistics case

I have the defender too. I have the same little problem in the top left corner too! The rubber part hasn't stretched for me, however.
I use the fingerprint scanner, but I don't notice any problems at all when using it.
does anyone know if its easy to cut out their screen protector? Its just that when I use it, I feel like I'm using the Blackberry Storm, like I slightly push more than normal, and it takes away accuracy when typing. Should I keep the Defender or just get the candyshell Speck and a separate screen protector?
I'm on my second silicone part. I emailed them about the port cover corner getting stretched out and they sent me a new one. The new one looks just like the old one already. Took maybe two weeks for it to start popping out again.

The protector is just held in place with double stick tape. Just take the case off and push it out from the outside.

I called them about my silicone case stretching and they sent me a new one as well.. still haven't put the new one on yet. Wife called about the "watermark" she is getting on her screen, and found out it is because they put the screen protector on backwards(her screen protector feels more rough than mine).. so they are sending her two stick on screen protectors. May have to try and just pop out her screen protector and flip it over?

Go on YouTube and look at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XzHnvjc_-30 for the candy shell and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FmaW5bPuxFw&feature=channel_video_title for the Defender and you'll see that they're as good as each other...I just exchanged for the Speck and got a screen protector for the exact same price (minus one cent) and couldn't be happier! It feels much better, you can actually feel vibration, looks better, and is just as protected.

She has my Otterbox Commuter now which is similar to the Seidio Active case. I've switched over to nothing while I debate using a TPU or a Incipio Feather, as I have a lapdock now and the Commuter is just too big to fit...
I read somewhere you can remove a plate or something on the laptop dock to make extra room. I might have been seeing things though

Ugh my defenders head phone door came off the phone recently just a confirmation of this problem sadly i would have thought it would have happened to the usb flap first being that i dont use headphones that often. I dont know if i should try to get them to send be a new silicon part out now that I got a body glove case today Seems to be a good alternative to this the grip on the case is nice and theres an option to have aclip on the back for a belt clip that comes with it Witch would be good if you used the Defender holster but you can replace the clip with circle shaped peace that finishes the case only thing that might be bad is there is no protection for the ports. I will say that it being all in one layer unlike the plastic and silicon on the defender means that there is no creekiness that i some time felt on my defender. it setill clips together on the front and back similar to the defender plastic layer though without a built in screen protector.
if anyone is looking for one. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1154013

thinest gs3 case?

Whats the best and thinest case for the gs3? Please post links thanks
I would like to know that too
The official Samsung slim case is the thinnest.
This is the only part where i kinda miss iPhone, accessories! I guess imma have to go with capdase.
They should make a case that's just a back replacement like the flip case, but w/o the flip cover and make it surround and protect the shiny front side edge trim w/ a slight raised edge.
I saw mention of the OEM slim case by Samsung, but does this actually replace the back like the flip cover case?
I use the flip case now and it's very thin because it just replaces the back. The only added thickness is from the flip cover on the front which is minimal. My gripes with it are that I know the outer edges of the phone surrounding the screen will get wear since it's not protected and the cover doesn't always stay shut as well as gets in the way when taking pictures or using the phone flash as a torch. I wish the flip wasn't like a book, but as a vertical flip, but then people would get annoyed with the flip cover getting in the way of the headphone jack. Since I use a bluetooth LG Tone for audio and use bluetooth to my car stereo, not a problem for me.

I thick it's better than scratch protection. It bulges out slightly in the corners and is a rubbery plastic. It even slightly protrudes from the front to give protection. I absolutely love the case. I bought a light blue and have it on a white s3 and it looks sweet.

TOUGHEST protection case out there? Otterbox?

Hey folks,
I adore my HTC ONE so much that it deserves the very best protection ever made for a smartphone.
With my HTC EVO 3D I always used the DEFENDER CASE mady by OTTERBOX (awesome thing), but OTTERBOX did not develop a satisfactory case for the ONE. Why? The screen protection of the DEFENDER case ends where the HTC button starts, thus allowing dust to crawl under the screen protector. Whoever developed this deserves a smack on the head.
I like OTTERBOX, but f*ck it, if they don't produce protection for adventurers, I'll spend my money somewhere else...
Recommend me the toughest protection you know of for this great phone!

Good job ignoring the OP and disregarding his request.
I too, am searching for a good rugged style case. I tried 2 of the cheap Chinese otter box style cases. They don't fit well and loosen up after you take them off. I think the best solution for now, is to use the defender with a good screen protector and rip out the defender's sorry excuse for a built-in shield.

I'm using a Trident kraken AMS for my one with the bike mount accessory. The case is not that high quality as would have expected and also I can not see how the hell can it be considered dust and rain resistant (as per their own description) since the speaker grills are exposed.
I took off the pathetic screen shield and replaced it with a continuous plastic film which is not sealing the entire front of the phone.
However .. I'm disappointed with the build quality of this expensive case.

Any case for the ONE covering EVERYTHING? I don't care if it looks like a soldier's phone afterwards, my phone DESERVES the most rugged and awesomest protection ever made in history! Perhaps, I should not even use it. ^^
I would just recommend an regular hybrid double layer case, they work just as well as an trident/otter case. But the price is almost 4x as much for these branded products.

on a side note: its just a phone, holds no value in real life. just a gadget so that you keep feeling special.
I got the Hyperion dual layer case from amazon for ten bucks. I do general contracting work, flimsy plastic clip got snagged and broke while on 18 foot ladder. Dropped to asphalt driveway, a few scuffs on case, phone no damage. I replaced clip with metal one from amazon, and cover usb and 3.5 with electrical tape. Works great for me and I am confident with it. Any resourceful adventurer can easily replace clip (epoxy, small rounded bolt and nut)

It looks nice, but I'd skip the top layer. The One really needs a screen protector that is bonded directly to the screen. The problem with rigid screen protectors that aren't bonded is gunk can enter through the speaker cutouts.

I personally have the otterbox commutter and don't even use a screen protector still not a scratch I clean it over and never put keys in same pocket as phone but the screen is made to be UN scratchable sand is reallly the main thing to watch out for
If you want a full screen protector buy a premium one from a bigger phone like note or something and cut it with a razor blade to cover all the way from both speakers I've done it already but screen protectors go bad and get dust under then after a while and never look as good as the phone does without protector

Was hoping Some one could point me in the right direction, I was either thinking of getting the otter box defender or the Trident aegis

Yeah I saw your post earlier looks good, but was wondering does dust get under the case? And threw the ports? I'm told otter box is bad for that... I work in very dusty environments so I'm assuming that's the reason why my phone break down in less than a year, anyway would be helpful if I knew before I purchase !
Sent from my XT1034 using xda app-developers app
Well i have the otterbox commuter and its really great protection. And no dust will get in. Because you have to put a screen protector. And the otterbox defender the dust gets inside the protector. But the defender is stronger so idk.

I took out my Moto g out of its aegis case a few days ago. I didn't find a lot of dust inside. There was some very, very small quantities. I work at a electronics repair shop and there is some dust there. I suppose it could be a problem if someone works in a similar or worse environment.
Sent from my XT1034 using Tapatalk
I started the trident case thread, and for me there is no issue with dust. The trident case gives great protection without the bulk of the otterbox case. But if you plan on dropping it from 30 ft. up........
I have both the Otterbox Commuter and Trident Aegis cases, and I like the Aegis case more. I don't know how Aegis compares to the Defender, but the Commuter is denser and bulkier due to its curved back. Quite a bit of dust gets in around the screen edges since the silicone layer has a looser fit; even the port "doors" collect dust.
The Aegis case is thinner and trickier to put on (all the locks/slots/etc.), but it's been doing a wonderful job of keeping dust away from my device. It also has an additional dust filter on the plastic shell to keep more dust out of the speaker. The silicone layer can be a dust magnet especially by the port flaps, but I haven't found as much dust on my phone compared to when it was in the Commuter. The Commuter's optional screen protector only reaches the top edge of the display, whereas the Aegis's covers the screen with a cutout for the camera/speaker/sensor bits.
Commuter
I've never been a fan of the defender. From a structural point of view, it might offer better protection, but there's something about keeping my phone stuck to hard plastic all the time that gets to me.
It WILL scratch the phone. The commuter has never done that on all my previous phones. Which is why I have it ordered.
I don't know about the trident cases; frankly I'd never heard of them before; but to me, an otterbox is the epitome of main stream good quality and warranty backed cases that do their job 99% of the time, but yes, in a dusty environment, I don't think anything less than a waterproof case would suffice for absolutely ZERO dust.
I am also undecided...Aegis or Commuter.
I like the fact that the Aegis is less bulkier but I saw some negative comments regarding it:
The rubber bits that fit in the headphone and USB plugs don't fit snugly inside the ports and leave space around the rubber body. The plug bits don't stay inside and come out too easily and the space between gets filled with gunk.

The only thing that bothers me is the USB/Headphone jack covers have a grab tab to open the covers. This grab tab can snag anything that gets in the way with normal use and expose the ports. That defeats the whole purpose of the covers.

The tabs for the silicone that covers the charging port and headphone jack are no longer pulled through the outer shell. To me this feels cheaper and almost negates the purpose of these covers to keep out debris. I can see the headphone silicone tab breaking in the future without this feature.

I have the SAME doubts about that topic! Can anyone clarify us?
anyone?
Ive had both. Not on this phone. But trident is just as good. Id compare it more to the defender series tho. Without as much bulk. It doesnt cover the speaker or camera. But does cover the ports. IMO i like trident better. Protection is closly comparable to the defender. But less bulk/easier to take on and off. I just ordered one off newegg for $19 free shipping. Best deal IMO
Edit: also. In my past experience, skinomi has been the best screen protectors. Completely clear, if applyed correctly you cant even tell its there. Their a bit pricey but worth it
I started off with the Trident. It looked like it could handle the load and the price was right. The Trident profile is trimmer than the commuter and therefore lighter. While I never drop tested the Trident it appears it can handle the shock. The slick hard shell had me concerned about easily dropping the phone. There are tabs on the port covers that after a few pocket pulls will expose ports and cause me to check port covers on every pocket pull. The Trident out does the Commuter in the categories of smaller size and they have a neat dust filter cover over the speaker grill.
But I know Murphy's Law only too well. So I got a commuter. I wish I bought it first. Had one on my first smart phone which passed every abuse test I gave it in 2.5 yrs. The commuter is not as bulky on the G as previous phone. The shell is textured for sure grip. The screen & camera/flash protection is better with the commuter. Tuck and roll port covers for a very streamlined case. The commuter case and gorilla glass gives me enough confidence to leave the screen protector in its wrapping. The commuter costs more but compared to insurance is a better deal. The commuter is my insurance on this Moto G and I feel secure.

Double dip case

Hi.
I was wondering if anyone have tried the official HTC double dip case(hard shell) with a full body protector for the m7 like this one
http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00BI3NL0E?pc_redir=1406928374&robot_redir=1
Since the double dip case scratches the phone. I was wondering if the full body protector prevent scratches and does the protector fit in the case or does it pill off.
Thanks
I am using double dip case.. flip one though.. for the past 14 months and i havent had single scratch on my phone cause of case
I think it completely depends on individual usage

It wont fit, don't even try to put the double dip on if you have the full body protector on
You'll have a bad time trying to fix it
I just dont get it, why people want to use double dip case to avoid phone damage, and then to use some phone wrap to avoid damage being caused by double dip flip.
In my ears it sounds like: "I need to protect my phone from being damaged by phone protector" - absolutely nonsense.
Why are you doing this ? For resale value ? Your phone is already 1 year old (from release date), it will be worthless in another year. The battery in it will be damaged much more by using than actual case of the phone.
You have two options:
1, Forget about protection, buy cheapo pouch from ebay. When I use the phone, it shows all its glory, and I can "feel and see what I have paid for", and while i am not using, i put it in pouch and can toss it in my bag without worying, that it will be damagedl
2, If you tend to protect it at all costs, buy another case. I have Incipio Frequency, which was tough and soft enough not to damage your phone at the same time. Unfortunatelly, the case became a bit loose at volume rocker causing squeaking sounds. Then I just realized, what I am just trying to explain to you. Or, take UAG case - it is soft inside, and hard on the outside.
Same answer for official car holder, it's already almost snug fit. Putting wrap on the phone could cause unability to put phone in official car dock.
I had a double dip case, awful thing!
I found it really difficult to get it fitting correctly, with the volume buttons working. After I finally had it all working, I removed it after a couple of months to find the speaker grills blocked by fluff, and small scratches around the grills from where the dirt had been rubbing.
Avoid!
The only reason I'm interested in the case is because of its look. I can't find other cases with similar design.
If you go for look, check out UAG cases.
My absolute winner, although I don't know such case personally.
If I had to buy just one, it would definitely be uag.
I use this case all the time. Simply remove case daily, blow out dust. I also placed two pieces of electrical tape on the interior of the body portion of case where I noticed excess wear on phone. It works fine and also provides a snugger fit.
