[Q] Root For 1.0.561_r1 - Ouya Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Dumb question of the moment.
Upgraded to 1.0.561_r1. Previously had root (yes, I'm a dope), that of course broke it. Still have the apps that I installed when I had root and the Play Store, but I did have to uninstall that because ... of course ... didn't work! Pretty sure I still have CWM Recovery on there though, but no good way to get to it.
So, assuming that there isn't a root yet out there for this new version, which I doubt there is, am I looking at needing to downgrade using the micro USB "connect to PC" method?
Thanks!

[Q] So like, i just got a Play and it's running 2.3.2

So I just bought a Play today and have been wondering if i should go ahead with an update to the latest version or if I should root and do something cool. I'm not really sure what to do and looking for suggestions.
Thanks,
Kris
Root it using gingerbreak first, then update it on the phone itself. That way you can have newer software, and still be rooted. Being rooted is definitely nice, if anything it gives you access to some pretty nifty apps on the market that require root to work.

Thanks although when I go to software update on the phone it says it cannt connect to the network. I'm connected to wifi and browsing and market work. I'm guessing if I used the SE software on the pc it would not allow me to root or would not save the root?
Or do i need to root first for the software update to work?
Thanks in advance,
Kris
What version are you using? R800a, r800i, or r800x.
Sent from my rooted R800a 2.3.3 BL locked
I wouldnt know >_< how do i find out?
NVM its R800i
EDIT: Just rooted the Play, now to try and get the on phone software update to work I guess.
EDIT2: Yea it still says searching for update and then cannont connect to the network.
EDIT3: Well i updated using the PC and it removed SuperUser so... i'm guessing no more root. I dont wanan run the gingerbreak again incase ti messes up and bricks or something.
If you want a do-over, go to this thread.

4.2.2 Root problems?

Hey everyone! I recently (yes, just recently :/ ) updated the Verizon Galaxy Nexus from 4.1.2 to 4.2.2 this past weekend and I used the app "Voodoo OTA Rootkeeper" to keep root access while downloading the OTA. I didn't want to update to 4.2.2 but long story short, I did. I was unwilling to update since many people have had troubles getting wifi tether to work and I wanted to avoid that and keep running on 4.1.2 to keep wifi tether with no problems (Don't fix what's broken, right?). Well, I used another app "Root Checker" to validate my root access, and it says "Sorry! This device does not have proper root access." and I was wondering how I lost my root access in the process? Would anyone know by chance? I'm not too familiar with root anymore since I've had my phone rooted for over a year now using the 1-click toolkit that many people dislike. I was wondering what I should do next, in order to have root access once again. I don't want to run the risk of bricking my phone and having to pay big bucks for a new phone. Anything helps!!

[Q] Get "Access Denied" when accessing external SD Card via Wireless Storage

[Q] Get "Access Denied" when accessing external SD Card via Wireless Storage
Am trying to use LG's Wireless Storage function to copy files to the external SD Card from Windows 7 (IE11). Whereas it works fine with the internal memory (sdcard0), but I have only write access to the external SD card. It seems I can only write to it via the USB cable. Any idea why this may be, and more importantly how to fix it? Also why is it all so slow??
You need root for third party apps to be able to write to the sdcard in lollipop.

Thanks. Haven't received the Lollipop update yet, and prefer to wait for the official update. What is the easiest safest way to root? Happy to do this now my warranty has expired... I assume the official Lollipop update will come through even if I root?
Take a look at the CWM 6.0.5.1 thread for v500. I'm assuming you have a v500. If you want to receive the official update from lg (if there is one), then you have to go back to stock with lg tool.
I was under the impression (not sure where from) that the lollipop update was coming , albeit in a few months.
Frankly I can't be bothered with loading a 3rd party operating system like Cyanogen, I did it on my old HTC desire and it took a certain amount of dedication. Having said that I really should root it so I can do things like run Titanium... Is there an easy way to root it? Guess I'll have to do some searches ...
Stumproot is the program I used for 4.2.2. Use the brute force option.
Hmm - I tried stump root , but it says "Device is rooted" (which it isn't). The Grind button is disabled, and there is no Bruteforce button. I am running 4.4.2, maybe that is the problem...

Have you downloaded SuperSu from the play store? This will manage root access. Also, if you are root, highly advise installing recovery and making a backup first thing. The headache this saves later is well worth the effort.

Thanks verymuch, and I know that having recovery set up is a wise thing to do, but can't be bothered with it just yet. I thought simple rooting was easy to do, but I guess it isn't so Ill revisit the whole thing when I have some more time. In the meantime accessing the external SD card will require plugging it into my PC..

Stumproot says you are rooted? You still need SuperSU from the playstore to manage permissions. Rooting is easy.

The problem is that it is NOT rooted, despite what StumpRoot says. Titanium says it is not rooted, and I'm sure I'd remember if it was rooted... SuperSU won't install. I can download the ap but when I run it, it fails to install itself.
I would downgrade to 4.2.2 with LG Tool first, then root and install recovery.

Have found another tool to root it. It then recommend installing TWRP. My question is, if I do this, will LG's Lollipop update still come down automatically (assuming there is such an update).
You have to go back to stock completely (including the recovery) if you want to apply an official LG lollipop OTA.

FULLY unroot

Hi,
Does anyone know if this phone can be fully UN-rooted so apps like Barclays Bank app and Pingit can work on it?
Supersu unroot doesn't work nor do Hide Root stuff.
Mine was pre-loaded with Eragon ROM by the Ebayer who I got it from which in general was a good thing.
In the meantime, I've put it back to stock.
Can anyone install Pingit app on this phone? (you don't need a Barclays account or anything... just try and install it and it detects root).
Thanks.
Hmm no replies to this one.
OK, can someone confirm to me whether the P8000 is FULLY unrooted when it's new? The hardware is great so I'm thinking of getting the Vowney but not if Elephone mobiles are rooted from the start.
I know it's all about rooting and putting custom ROMs but it's annoying when some apps you NEED (like banking) won't run on them.
Can someone who hasn't done anything to their P8000 check for me please? Just download the Barclays Pingit app and try to install it. If it installs, it's fully unrooted.
Thanks.
You can install the Stock Firmware with so Flashtool soul be unrooted then

Certainly with my P8000 and many others from comments in this forum, the phone came with some of the necessary root files/binaries installed. To root all that was necessary for me was to install SuperSU from the Play store.

Yeah, my hope is to fully UN-root the phone (so it's NOT rooted). There are certain apps like Barclays Banking and Pingit apps that won't install if it even sniffs that it's been rooted.
So, the guy I got the phone from put Eragon OS on it for me. So it must have got rooted then.
I've flashed it myself following the instructions on the official Elephone site using the Flashtool and put the latest Stock Rom on (complete with malware!) but it is still classified as ROOTED.
Root Checker says: Root access is not properly installed on this device.
My other phone (LG G Flex 2) is DEFINITELY not rooted and it comes up with the same 'not properly installed' as well but is ok with Barclays apps.
If I flashed the stock back on, should I theoretically be fully unrooted (obviously not...). What do I need to do to FULLY unroot it please?

Nope, I've literally just flashed it with the latest stock ROM (20151105). No virus in this one!
Barclays apps still think it's rooted.
Sorry for asking noob questions but Root doesn't survive Flashing does it?
Try checking with root checker app from playstore
Yeah I said in the previous post:
Root Checker says the same on my definitely UNROOTED LG G FLex 2 and on my Stock Rom P8000 which I've just flashed.
Root access is not properly installed on this device.
Barclays Bank app works fine on my Flex but root is detected on the P8000 saying it's rooted.
So is it possible to TOTALLY UN-ROOT the phone? UN-ROOT. Not Root. UN-ROOT.
Download es file manager ,go to system check sbin, xbin and bin folders for su files and delete them if you find any

Interesting...
So, for example, in the xbin folder I have:
sugote
sugote-mksh
supolicy
daemonsu
BIN folder has:
superumount
There's no sbin folder.
You mean I should delete ANYTHING that has the letters SU in those folders?
When the P8000 is flashed with the stock rom using the FlashTool, what does it do? Does it blat EVERYTHING on the phone or does it leave something somewhere to indicate it's been rooted before?
If it does wipe EVERYTHING and it sets the phone back to how it would be when it's shipped from Elephone, it does indicate that there is some sort of ROOT (files or whatever) to make some apps complain.
Surely there is SOMEONE here who can tell me whether their P8000 is FULLY UNROOTED or not (by trying to install the Pingit app).
I'm almost a fan of buying these generic, no brand China phones cos they're ridiculously cheap and fast but if they're pre-rooted (in some form), they're not much use since you can't run certain apps on them (especially if no-one knows how to UNROOT them). The Elephone Vowney looks so desirable!
Go to system>xbin and see if su file is on your phone and try deleting just the file with the name su and no other files
Nope, no file called SU in there.
So, my question now is:
Eragon ROM WAS put on this phone.
I've now flashed it with stock ROM.
Should it now be UN-rooted? Or at least, as much as it was when it leaves the factory? (obviously it's not EXACTLY the same because the Stock ROM I flashed is much newer).
OR, are Elephone ALWAYS rooted (either half or fully... enough to trip up certain apps)?
I know that if you get phones like OnePlus One, which had a 'custom' ROM (CM), it was still fully un-rooted (ie you can use banking apps on it).
try simply unroot app
It always works for me
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.pinpong.simplyunroot
Hehe I'm interested to see what happens here.
Root Checker says it's unrooted (or it says it's not properly rooted - which isn't necessarily the same.. although that's what it says on my Flex 2 which is DEFINITELY not rooted).
Barclays bank app says it's rooted.
I need to root the device to use the Simply Unroot app.
What are the chances this is going to work..... I know it's only £0.68 but.....
I'll give it a go when I get home!
Thanks.
Nope, Simply Unroot didn't work although I didn't have much hope.
What's the explanation for this kind of thing... where it's flashed with stock rom and apps can tell it's rooted (even Root Checker says it's unrooted).

By the way, the guy who sells Simply Unroot is VERY VERY VERY helpful.
Really nice guy.
He spent a lot of time trying to sort this out for me. In the end, we were unable to get Barclays app to run.
Root Checker and Simply Unroot both thought the phone was unrooted but Barclays apps thinks it is rooted.
Anyway, the point is, even after all his help, he gave me a refund.
5 stars for the developer for his support!
Sounds like a problem with the Barclay's app
