[Q] Smart Dial on Sense 5 - HTC One X

Sense 5 is epic, i love everything about it, except for one thing: Smart Dial.
It can't display multiple contacts at once like it used to,
requiring me to type one's name fully using the keypad before it displays one's number..
i miss the smart dial on the sense 4+..
so how to re-enable it?

Landscape Dialer

Hi,
I've looked but haven't seen reference to a landscape dialer for the Galaxy S.
I'm more than willing to try to create one but is it possible?
Take a look at "Dialer One" from the market or the modified one from this post .

Dialer One is only the dialer, it still dispatches the Phone app which won't go landscape.
Phone.apk and DialerTabActivity both have landscape layout files inside, I wonder why they are not used...

It drives me crazy that when I drive and use my phone as GPS in landscape, I have to pay by using the phone UI on the side. Hell, touchscreens are hard to use anyway while driving!
Just downloaded and tried Angel dialer and it has a landscape mode and so far looks great.
For some reason the default behaviour is no dialer and only search but if you go into settings and Keypad settings you can select 'show keypad'.
You now have a dialer that displays half the screen for number typing and half the screen for selection of search (t9) results.

[MOD]phone.apk to show caller company

It would be nice if we could display the callers company name along with their name and number when receiving a call.
Also, it would be a great ideea if a developer could mod the dialer screen to search T9 both the name, given name and company.

Yes this is definitely is a very useful feature...
That would be nice, but what I miss a lot from CM7 is showing in-call the custom tag of each number of the contact.
It is very useful when a contact calls you from one of their numbers, and you can recognize the specific one (home, work, personal, mobile, custom...)
Is that possible? I would PAY for it!!

Dialer and keyboard for CM7. ?

Hi,
The two things preventing me from switching over to CM 7 are dialer and keyboard. So
1. Does anyone manage to port HTC keyboard to CM7 . If no can anyone suggest me a decent T9 keyboard .?
2. Any decent dialers . Many dialers failed to clear the missed calls and many failed to recognize space in T9 mode. Meaning when the name is "test name" , the dialer expects me to press space character which is inadmissible.
Thanks,
Karthik

try Swype keyboard and go dialer
Xperian8~ click thanks if it helps...
Go contact scrolling through contacts is very laggy when compared to stock cm7 contacts. Any other suggestions?

what?
There are quite a few keyboards that support t9 compact keyboards, smart keyboard is one of those. You can install the trial and check it out, even though I'd recommend swiftkey for anything to do with typing.
The CM 7.2 release candidate supports t9 and it works well enough for me. I don't really understand your gripe with space, but to type "test name" you'd go 837806 where the 0 means space. You could also only type the second name and choose from the drop down menu. From what I gather it will rank the numbers by popularity, so the ones you call more often will be on the top most of the time. So even without ignoring spaces (what it seems you want), it'll still most likely get the contact you need after the first 3 letters.

[q] how to change ics stock dialer to another ones

Hello guys
the problem with impossibility change stock ICS dialer by another one from third party is driving me crazy... I tried everything including factory reset and complete wipe. Always the bloody stock dialer come up when use any dialer from the market. Even if I swipped launcher and phone icon on home screen. Third party dialer itself works OK, but when dialing I always getting stock ICS dialer!!
Kinldy ask all for help how to disable stock ICS original dialer that I hate!
Thanks indeed
Ciao
Go to settings for the phone.apk and clear defaults.
I did it, but when dialing form eXdialer, always stock comes up..., I rebooted phone after change, but still in troubless...
any clue?
If you mean the actual dialing (call active), you can't change that. Dialler is the app used to find the number, and the call itself is done through the stock dialer.
Swyped on my CM9 Galaxy Nexus
I recently found the answer in another thread...http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1388274

The OP answered it himself, and did so by updating the #1 post, so it might not have looked like the answer...
The phone icon in the launcher is actually a direct link to the phone app so you just have to replace that with your own chosen dialler app! in 2.x it was a link to the default phone app but in ICS it is different.

So, just drag the phone icon off the bottom area and drag the alternate dialer you want to use down there.
Thanks guys for help.
To make it short, the main problem with dialer is that no possibility of SPEED DIAL. This has been solved by using shortcuts on second home screen for frequent calls. The key problem is impossibility to see right below the contact also a company. Actually I register roughly 1.400 contacts in the phone and not always sure about which caller belongs to what company once I get ring up. So I see only the name and not sure about company that the guy comes from.
Maybe some solution is already existing, so I would really apreciate it from you
Ciao

Tips for using 4.2 keybaord (like swearing)

One of the things that drove me crazy with the new gesture keyboard was it's inability to allow me to use curse words...
Settings ---> Language & input ---> Personal dictionary
Touch the + symbol at the top right.
Add whatever words you want and it'll start showing up in your gestures! Another fun trick is adding a word like "email" and giving it the shortcut to your actual email. When you type in email you'll also have the option to select your actual email address in the suggestion bar. This also helps with curse words that'll default over normal words... Add the regular word and shortcut the curse word so that you can quickly use it in the suggestion bar.
Thanks, now I can swear like a proper pirate again. Arrr!

Oh right this works. My biggest gripe with the keyboard is that it is not possible to correct a word in the middle of a sentence. For example, if i want to change a word in the middle of a sentence, I can't double click the word and see possible variations of the word. I have to select the word and retype it entirely.
How do you access all the emojis. There are only keywords for a handful of them but there are many more emojis compatible with android.
