Why install custom rom? - Sony Xperia S, Acro S, Ion

Sony has professional coders. Every custom rom I have installed have had bugs. I want a stable phone without problems. I will stick with stock and rootet from now on!

Happy for you !!

Thank you!

I don't see for what you asking for. Your question is: "why install custom rom?" and in your thread you have answered your question already..

Because I'm open for other views and experiences.

because sony stock roms are buggy, laggy and full of useless cr#p that only about 5% of people actually want and use

i'm on stock... it isn't laggy and the crap you can remove yourself if rooted...

I agree. Stock is smooth and there are guides that tell you what you can safely remove.

Guys,
Surely it all come down to choice.
If your happy with stock, stay with it.
If you want to root and remove the bloatware do it.
If you wanna run custom Rom's flash em.
That's why android is the best mobile OS ever, cause you have the choice to do what you want.

:good::good::good: that's right n all of em, stock, custom, etc; have plus & minus
i have tried all of em & never "force" to "choice"

Custom roms are just welcome while the authors are still alive!! So you can ask for a bug solution!!

[Q] Best method to root, unlock bootloader and install CWM?

So, I'm going to be getting/buying an xperia play in the next week or so. As an upgrade from my wildfire. I've been looking around the xperia play section for about a week or two now. I'm still not sure what is the best way to go about rooting, unlocking the bootloader (If its needed on this device), and installing CWM.
So, advise me if there is a better way to do this but:
Firstly, I'll root using the Zergrush method. As long as my device's firmware is before november 2011.
Then, I'll unlock the bootloader. And use flashtool to get CWM.
Flash doomlords kernel, (Unless I have to do this before CWM).
Enjoy CM9/AOKP/Paranoid Android on my play.
If there is a better guide available. Could someone point me in the right direction. This sections layout is a bit more confusing to find things, and doesn't have any sort of helpful guides going over which methods I should do and in which order.
Anyway, if you do end up posting something. Thanks for your input.
See you around the section!
In my opinion you should just try first the stock rom with root and then make up your mind, I'm fine with the bootloader locked personnaly I just removed the bloatware and installed team stock
But if you want to directly unlock the bootloader it is even easier in order to get root, just unlock the bootloader and install a custom kernel with root built in along with the new rom.
There are 2 types of kernel : Sony based and aosp based kernels, if you install a rom built from source such as cyanogenmod, aokp and such you can't use doom kernel as he based his on sony's sources, just use the kernel provided on the first post of each thread or the mjolnir kernel which is cm9/ aosp based

Thanks. I'm going to try the stock rom. And root it if it doesn't meet my needs. Is the stock gb rom full of bloatware, or is it a small amount. Would I have to use fastboot to flash the kernel everytime?

I think there is more and less 50 mo out of the 380 mo of the storage on the phone that is useless, just root and get rid of that whatever.
About the kernel I'm not sure as I have not an unlocked bootloader, but it seems that you just flash the kernel once or when the op says so and reflash another when you change from aosp to stock based and vice versa.

Another advice by the way, if you get the play because of the touch pad, that's fine, welcome! But if that's because you want a good support from Sony with official firmware rollout and a lot ROMS, take a look at other phones, we don't have much developers here, although they are really talented, and Sony left us behind.

I don't mind the lack of developers. Its something I'm used to comming from the wildfire section. The game-pad wasn't the only thing that made me want the device. It was the performance/features for the price too.

[Q] Best things to do after stock 4.0.4 root

What are the best things to do after stock 4.0.4 root, besides cwm, custom rom, kernel etc.
I mean tweaks, apps for better performance and all this stuff!
Thanks, and remember, only for stock rom and kernel, locked bootloader!
Probably remove unwanted system apps and other bloat.
The best thing to do, I would go with removing bloatware. The next I would so is look around the forum for any tweaks that you like.

New to flashing roms

Hello i have a T989 SGS2 and i want to install a great rom on it i was hoping to install the S4 rom on to it but i cant seem to find it, which is ok if its not out there yet or cant be done (As i read something saying the s4 rom cant be put on the s2) i was wondering what rom is recommended for the s2 im really looking to use the latest s-voice if i can i didnt know if it comes on a rom already or if i can install it using an apk file any tips and or help i am greatful for and want to say thank in advance.
Definitely don't flash an S4 rom! If u need Wi-Fi callng, u need one of the stock based 4.1.2 roms; jellybeast, infamous, jedi mind trick jb for example. If u don't, then many good choices.
Sent from my SGH-T989D using xda app-developers app
Check out the roms in the development thread. As far as s voice you can find the apk and install if you want. And no you can't install a s4 rom on the s2 or any other rom for that matter that is not compatible. The only other roms that work on this phone are the s2 skyrocket roms and with those you need the rotation fix for the sensors to function properly.
Best to go thru dev section & look at different features, screenshots, etc. Try different ones out & see what u like. U can always switch around.

So the 4.2.2 PACMAN v2201 wont support wifi calling? how do i know what is a stock rom and what is not?
sorry for all the questions but i gotta learn somehow right?
Pacman, or any AOSP rom does not have Wi-Fi calling. Stock will say it is based on stock jellybean in description.
Sent from my SGH-T989D using xda app-developers app
Well, I am a total newb at this as well, as I just flashed my first ROM this week. I needed wifi calling as well, and I decided on the jellybeast rom. It looked cool, but also the dev was giving alot of support in the forum, so I knew he would help me if needed. Anyway, everything went smooth by just following his directions, and I could not be happier now with my phone. That rom is super smooth and fast and very stable. Good luck.

Yes, but i want the new update too. where can i find the ROM includes this and can i flash it over the existent rom?
Read and search man, all the info is there. There is uncountable guides about how to root an un-root and why and what it does. Just make some search you will find all you need. No need to start a thread for this.

No custom rom is completely stable.

For a bloatware Free stock rom you need to work on the stock rom yourself..
You can follow this guide by chotu222
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2160671 for rooting your grand and after you get root access you can remove bloatwares easily .
What do you mean by spy app, i dont get it.

Why do you need a 100% stable rom anyway? I suggest you try one of the kitkat roms.... Which are ALMOST stable and have LOADS AND LOADS of features not available on any stock rom... Yeah maybe one two bugs but then a rooted phone can't be 100% perfect right?
