Monday i receive my IncS, as im making the switch from a iPhone.
So iv'e been reading in here to learn about Andorid and how to flash custom ROM.
However, I have a question after reading various strings in here, and I'm sorry if it's stupid one...
I will get S-OFF with a XT-Clips, so i can install a custom ROM.
But how about Recovery?
Is it enough to install madmaxx82 4EXTRecovery to be able to boot into Recovery by pressing Power and Vol down?
Or do i have to install RomManager also to be able to boot into Recovery, so i can flash .zip's?
And where is the Recovery image stored?
That's all for now ;-)
Might want to check the Incredible S forum. This is the Incredible forum.

Your signature is oddly applicable here.
I just re-lock the bootloader and i removed the root using nextoolkit.
and before that, i didnt put CWM in my nexus.
anyway, i was looking at fastboot mode, and tried to enter de recovery mode without CWM... when i did so, it just apeared a kind of "android error" with a exclamtion mark. the buttons were freezed and i couldnt do anything. so i waited 5 minutes and it did a automatically reboot
-why my recovery mode showed this "android error"?
-what purpose of a recovery mode without CWM?
-recovery mode only works on root devices?
-did i do anything that can cause me problems by entering the recovery mode and waiting those 5 minutes?
Thank you
The Android with the exclamation mark is the stock recovery.
Stock recovery is useful, but not quite as useful as CWM or TWRP because it doesn't let you flash ROMs or mods, etc.. Stock still lets you do a factory data reset and a few other things.
Recovery works on stock devices (necessarily), but you need to be unlocked to flash a custom recovery and use those advanced features that the custom recoveries offer.

You should be able to navigate the couple options with the volume keys and power button. Its likely its working just fine and you didn't know how to work it.

That's the stock recovery screen.
Also, this is the Galaxy Nexus forum. You should post and keep posting in the Nexus S forum. And don't cross post...
Hold volume up and hit power you will see the options.

i have a galaxy NEXUS, but the image i found was nexus S (but the problem is the same)
i found this in another forum, and every body sad it works:
"1. flash that through fastboot, that is the cwm for lte
2. reboot phone, then find the file named /system/recovery-from-boot.p and either rename it to '1recovery-from-boot.p' without the quotes or delete it, (i renamed it)
3. reboot into fastboot mode and then chose recovery, you can then make backups or whatever with out the dead android guy with the red triangle containing the exclamation
i didnt make this up just followed the directions in the above mentioned thread good luck !!!!"
I found the "recovery-from-boot.p" but i couldnt delete it because is in system folder? only with root acces its possible to delete it?

hi
S3 T999 wind CWM Cannot Get Into Recovery Mode ????
i flash this clockworkmod.TAR with odin 3 time
i can get stock system recovery with VOL UP + Home button + power
but i unable to get clockworkmod.Recovery
plz help
i can get this recovery
Android system recovery <3e>
CWM is being overwritten with stock recovery when you reboot. This question is asked and answered several times each day, try searching (or just check my signature - but don't flash my CWM as it's for T999).
First, look for these files and if there, delete or rename them.
/system/recovery-from-boot.p
/system/etc/install-recovery.sh
Then install it. Or you can use the pull the battery method.
thank you very much friend its work for me
Stock recovery won't go away? Uncheck auto reboot in Odin. After you flash CWM, manually reboot the phone into recovery (vol up + home).
When you exit CWM, it will ask you to disable stock recovery.

CWM 6.0.1.2 will ask you if you want to disable the stock recovery when you attempt to exit. Select yes. Problem solved.

Dude this is not the right section to be asking this in. And please use the search button next time. Mods please move this to the Q&A.
What known ways did you use to flash the recovery? Did you use adb with the command fastboot flash recovery recovery.img? By the way this is the wrong section for this.

Make sure you are downloading the right recovery for the phone that is in this thread and not the main HTC One. That would make it fail to enter recovery. Try flashing in fastboot about two or three times and erase cache (fastboot erase cache) before flashing the recovery.

Seriously. Some people's first instinct is to attack rather than to help and teach them what to do first,
i also second the motion to make sure you are flashing the correct recovery image. either TWRP or CWM for Verizon, make sure you didn't grab one from another carrier, etc..
Hello. I'm not a developer or anything, but I do think that I know some things about technology. I have been trying to fix my GN2, AT&T. I have rooted it, and I did something bad, and now I don't even have access to recovery. Sorry if this question was posted some where else, but trust me. I've searched everywhere to find a way to fix my phone. Oh, and I do have access to download mode. Well, I did saw on a other post that you have to flash a ROM, via Odin to fix this. It did not work. It's my first time using Odin, but I put the .tar file in to the PDA section, and clicked start. (Of course with my phone plugged in to my laptop on download mode). After like 30 minutes, it failed. I tried some other USB ports, but it did not help. Please help me. I don't know what to do.

Ok, so I tried it. It successfully flashed the recovery. But when I went into the recovery, (Or tried to) it only showed some home, back, etc. buttons at the bottom of the screen. After that, it went back to the boot loop. Now I'm trying to flash a rom, see what happens. Please tell me if I did something wrong, or any tips would be appreciated.

No worries. Did you take a 4.3 backup before flashing 4.4.2 ?
If not, just ODIN back to 4.1.1 LJ2 like in Post #1. Then flash a custom recovery and you can then flash one of the 4.3 ROMS.
Oh look here's one ...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2704375
Flash the 1.75 version then scroll down and do the 2.0 Update.
You can do that after completing Post #2 and following these steps under Option #2 in Post #3
OPTION 2:
You will need to flash a custom recovery. I'm detailing a TeamWin Recovery Project (TWRP) install

INSTALLING TWRP 2.6.3.1
- Run Odin3 v3.07.exe
Download Link http://www.mediafire.com/download/772dlmuaxfgm0x2/Odin307.zip
- Put your Note 2 in Download Mode
Entering download mode is very simple. First you will need to turn off your device. Once it’s off, you need to press this button combination: volume down, power button and home button. Keep them pressed until the download mode shows up. Once you’re there, you will be required to press volume up to enter the download mode or volume down to cancel and reboot the device.
Plug into a RELIABLE usb port and a RELIABLE usb cable (preferably the white Samsung cable) and wait for it to show up in Odin (COM5 or something like that)
- Click the PDA slot in Odin and locate the openrecovery-twrp-2.6.3.1-t0lteatt.img.tar that you downloaded.
The filename that goes into the PDA Slot is openrecovery-twrp-2.6.3.1-t0lteatt.img.tar
MAKE SURE IN THE OPTION AREA ONLY AUTO REBOOT AND F.RESET TIME ARE CHECKED!!!
- Click START and wait. It will complete and reboot.
