Eaget WiFi Storage - Nexus 7 (2013) Accessories

I thought I'd found the perfect accessory for the Nexus 7-2, a WiFi hard drive adaptor. Something that can stream video via wifi from a hard drive or USB stick.
The Eaget air disk A60 looked perfect, about $70, an internal battery, can handle hard drives, SD cards or USB sticks, and has a wireless b-g-n access point.
All good in theory. After wading through the Chinglish manual, which was almost no help, attempting to get an app from the play store that isn't there, using Google translate on their Chinese forum, I managed to find the apk to run it.
Setting up wasn't easy either, as I had to access the device's internal webpage... which was in Chinese. Finding the switch to make it English wasn't easy.
Anyways.. the idea seems good, but I cannot get my Nexus to access the device due to continuous password errors. I've attempted to change the password but that doesn't help.
If anyone has any experience whatsoever with this device, or anything similar from Eaget, I'd love to hear from you. I'm waiting for Eaget to return my email.
If I get it going, I'll also let you know how I did it. Save someone a world of pain.

I've managed to get it working. I connect the Nexus to the airdisk's wifi server, then use ES file explorer's LAN tab and find it as a server, then login as admin - with the password I gave it when I logged into its webserver. I can also connect it to my home wifi system, and access it from everything on my network, sort of like a NAS. Anyways, seems there's not a whole lot of interest, so I'll leave this topic for now.

Well the device sounds interesting.. I was about to purchase the Seagate solution for $300m, this may save me some money..

It's a pretty cool device. Handles my WD portable hard drives no problem. But the apk (air HDD) if you can find it is crap... I was lucky that ES file explorer found the airdisk as a fileserver. It doesn't have much range on its wifi. All I want to do is use it as a video server when I go camping, removing all the painful USB-OTG cabling and USB power that needs to be connected to attach a HDD to the Nexus. There is a windows app that can be useful, for locating the airdisk when it's connected into your network. That exe took a bit of finding, I'll put it on dropbox sometime and post the link, if you want. If there's anything else you'd like from me let me know.

Hi there
I'd love to try the App you think would help access the airdisk.
Please let me know what it is.
Cheers
Chris:

Hey. Thought this thread was dead! Anyways, I found the apps, put them on dropbox. The links are https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/100322668/Air HDD_V1.0.1.6.exe for the windows program to locate the airdisk when it's connected to your wifi network, and https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/100322668/Air HDD_V1.3.28.apk for the apk. Which didn't work for me, I ended up using ES file server and finding it as a LAN server. This requires either having the airdisk connected into your wifi system, or connecting directly to it via wifi. I think the airdisk's default WEP key is 111111, its default IP address is 10.10.10.1. The server address was 10.10.10.254 and username admin. Whatever password you set up.
Hope this helps!

Android App to access files on my home PC

Hi all,
I'll start with what I want to do. Basically I want to be able to access my files on my PC at home from anywhere where I have a network connection, either over 3G or Wifi.
I don't want something like dropbox where I have to sync all my documents/music/videos to dropbox online. That means I have copies on dropbox and on my PC. Plus I am restricted to the space dropbox provides (I think it is 2gb).
I have searched the internet and the market to try and find an app that will help with this but I can't find anything. I don't want to stream anything I simply want to be able to browse my files on my home PC and then copy anything I need from my PC, using my phone, to my phone.
I have heard of Orb but that sounds like it streams the data. Take this scenario... I am in the office and realise I need to show a client a video. I show it streamed from my PC. Someone else comes and wants to see the video but I'm in an area with no data signal, I can't stream! If I could have copied the file to my phone from my PC remotely the 1st time then I wouldn't have that problem.
I hope I've explained this enough. Thanks in advance for any answers, it is much appreciated.
Take a look at this : ES File Explorer
Also take a look at this, too : FileLinx 3G Print or Transfer
Also some interesting articles:

I use Windows Home Server to get this functionality. It also gives me automated backup and lots more such as music streaming.
1. set up a ssh/sftp server on your home PC
w w w.digitalmediaminute.com/article/1487/setting-up-a-sftp-server-on-windows
2. use ASTRO, ESfileexplorer, or CIFS manager to mount/access the share remotely. Start by setting up inside your LAN, and makesure it works. Then move to WAN (will probably need to make sure your ISP provides you with a static WAN, and port forward the port the server is using to be able to access it "out in the wild".)
3. access your files whenever you want (as long as PC is on, and server running, and connected to the net)
I have installed Teamviewer on PC and Android version on HTC Desire and Samsung Galaxy Tab, working great.
I have tried to use a bluetooth mouse on Desire during such remote connection, which was a bit funny.
I'm using cifs manager, works perfect for me!

[Q] Transferring Large Files Between Phones??

Ok, I know I'm not crazy, but is there ANY way, besides Bluetooth, to transfer large files between the LGOG and another Phone?
I've tried the LGOG's FileShare app but it refuses to recognize my GS3 even after they both connect via Wi-Fi Direct. And just using plain ol' Wi-Fi Direct doesn't even come up as a sharing option on this phone. I can't use NFC obviously because it's only intended for small files and links. I've already tried bluetooth, but I have another thread floating around this forum detailing my experience with my LGOG being unable to connect to ANY other phone after it powercycled when connected to a friend's GS3. (On a side note, it did it AGAIN when I was connected to my bluetooth speaker today)
This is the only thing that freaking bugs the hell out of me about this device. The lack of options to wirelessly share files between devices. Obviously my bluetooth is most likely defective. Waiting on a custom OS to see if that will resolve my BT issues. But come on, this is ridiculous.
EDIT:
Oh, and the SmartShare app limits you to only Pictures, Video, and Music!
You could always connect both phones to a PC and put them in MTP mode (not charge mode) and the PC will recognize them both as a media player, allowing you to browse the entire file system. Then just copy the file from one phone to the other using PC.
Can't WiFi direct be used? I know you tried it but maybe your doing something wrong. Sadly I've never messed with it

Well, I have a GS3 also. On that phone, whenever you long press on a file/app and click "Share", Wi-Fi Direct comes up as one of the options to use as a file transfer medium. All you have to do is clock wifi direct and click the device and BOOM! The file starts sending. However, on the LGOG, it's not that simple for some odd reason. I can turn on wifi direct on both phones AND link them. But if i wanna send a file from my LGOG to another wifi direct device, it doesn't come up as a share option. You can open up Smartshare and use the LGOG like a DLNA server and play/upload music, movies, and pictures from the LGOG to the other wifi direct device. But Smartshare (unless i'm using it wrong) only limits you to those three options. What if I want to transfer an 850MB .zip or .iso file???
You could try "samba file sharing" on the market. Phone should show as a samba share on your windows network. Then you can use es file explorer, LAN, access the share. Have not tried, but this should enable wireless file sharing.

Haha, so funny that you mentioned that app. I did an intense search and ended up stumbling on Samba Fileshare a few hours after my last post. Has a tendency to force close every now and then but it works pretty good.

E STRONG LAN connection possible?

I realize that this device has the Remote PC app; however, I was trying to set up the LAN connection to my PC and the estrong app doesn't even give me the opportunity to add a remote server. No problem from my other devices. Is this part of Knox or the Samsung UI? This is the first device I don't have root on (12.2) and my first experience with anything wearing samsung cloak (had Google gnex) so not sure what's going on. Thanks for any help.
EDIT: I had no problem in Ghost Commander so I guess I need to contact the estrong team.
EDIT, again: I went back to the estrong app (I have an incredibly hard head) and after signing in through GC, everything (scan, add) was accessible. LAN connection successful. Don't know what that was all about.

No root. No HDD usage. Alternative?

So, I cant root the fire tv obviously and I bought it so someone i know can use it offline to watch offline movies instead of dvds. No way around this problem? I sideloaded KodiTV but its no use since I cant even use a flash or HDD
Can you sideload ES Explorer and connect to an SMB share on a NAS or Windows/Linux Server? it sounded like some people are doing that.

Is there a PC with spare hard drive space on the same network?
Kodi/SPMC/XBMC has the ability to make an SMB connection to a windows file share and play files from it. I do this with my Fire TV (box) and Fire TV stick to connect to my Win2012 server with many hard drives in it (holding all my movies converted from my blurays).
If a "Browse Master" isn't available on the network you wont be able to "browse" to find the computer and shared folder, and will instead have to manually use IP address and folder info for the "server" machine into Kodi/SPMC/XBMC when trying to setup the SMB connection. Extra info see -> http://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid=133624
Offline usage.
I have this Dane-Elec Media Streamer for hooking USB and SD cards that lets me connect to it through the FireTV's internet menu.
If you can sideload a matching app for one of these streamer doohickies, you should be able to connect straight to one.
There is one downside where it can stupidly auto-connect to a different remembered internet connection when you are using the streamer's connection.
I wonder if there is an offline cloud box for accessing files via "offline internet" or maybe even bluetooth?
She doesnt have a computer. I'm thinking I gotta keep this for myself since I got a few hard drives on my computer
There are quite a few Video Add-ons for XBMC/Kodi that make local storage a thing of the past. Between those and IPTV configs, you may not even notice. Although, most USA ISPs don't like streaming only households. Overages, etc may hurt the pocketbook...

Write to Attached Storage Remotely

I'm thinking about buying a Shield .....
One thing I do want really to be able to do is write to attached external storage remotely over a network .... either to an SD card or a Drive .... using something like Sambadroid (rather than via FTP) which can be set up as a network location from a PC/Laptop so I can control downloads to it from elsewhere in the house.
It's something I can't do with my current box as it doesn't give you write access and if you try and change the permissions it bricks.
Does anyone know if this can be easily done?

The shield already does this, the plex server running on it also creates a smb share, you will need to activate it first though, in the storage settings.
And I do think if you want to use another solution, you can, you just need to make sure that the smb share plex creates is not active.
Only downside is, it's only using smbv1.
But I do think nvidia is working on getting smbv3.
It does already have it if you mount lets say your pc
or a nas through the shield as a network storage.

Thank you for that ..... do you happen to know if you can then create network locations in the \\plexserver\androidstorage type format as opposed to ftp:// format ... things like iplayer only recognise the former

This is the path to my external hdd attached to the shield.
\\SHIELDANDROIDTV\Toshiba 2TB USB3.0
I don't know if they have changed it, but when you add a external harddrive, it will create the folder NVIDIA_SHIELD.
Under that folder you can create whatever you want, the shield wont see anything outside that folder.
So for example my movies are located here
\\SHIELDANDROIDTV\Toshiba 2TB USB3.0\NVIDIA_SHIELD\Media Server\Movies
If I did it like this \\SHIELDANDROIDTV\Toshiba 2TB USB3.0\Media Server\Movies the shield wouldn't be able to see those folders
And this is my path to the internal drive in the shield
\\SHIELDANDROIDTV\internal
Thank you for that ... much appreciated and have just ordered one!!
I wonder if they're bout to bring out a new version though as they're really hard to get hold of, yesterday morning 1st thing I could have order click and collect the next day at Curry's ..... by 11.30am they weren't available and ringing around virtually nowhere has them in stock.
This worked fine for a couple of days and then suddenly stopped ... it also seems to have made the button in storage settings inactive as I thought switching it off and back on again might be like a mini re-boot and get it working.
I also thought about trying something else but was also aware you mentioned not to unless the plex share was inactive ... frustrating.

If the plex media server is not running the smb part wont work.
I've noticed that if the plex server is running then switching the smb off and then on works for me.
Are you on the most recent shield experience version?
You can try turning it off in the storage settings, and try running the smb server from another app, won't hurt anything.
Check system updates and Plex Server updates.
On a side note, I though smbv3 was out already in SHIELD Experience 7.2 update... need to check.
Partially me being a numpty as was trying to switch it off / back on again the wrong way but I manged to get it running again ... I think the main issue was to do with Windows Networking Security and got itself into a loop where I'd saved it as a Network location from a couple of machines as it now asks for a Network password if I go in via \\shield but I can get in without using the \\IPaddress and save them as mapped drives.
Another query along the same lines, if instead I re-format the drive as internal storage can I still access it across the network the same way or is it restricted again .... I ask as I'm now getting available space warnings and need to decide what route to take.
I'd be interested to know what data speeds people get across a wired network as well, I tried copying a video from my NAS to the USB drive and it was running around 6/7 Mbs, is that a limitation of the write speed of the Shield as I was expecting it to be quite a lot higher.

Its only smbv3 if you mount lets say your pc as a network storage on the shield.
The smb share the plex server makes is smbv1

You can access it if you make it as internal storage, it will just be the internal storage that shows up on the smb share then.
I don't really know much about the write speeds, but there should be no limitations.
It might be because of smbv1.
You could try and set up a ftp server on the shield and transfer through that, just to see what speeds you get.
What you could also do it mounting your NAS as a network Storage, that way it should run smbv3, if you are on nvidia experience 7.2+ that is.
I am a little dumb when it comes to this. I have an external attached to my nvidia, plex server active, and can see server/hard drive on PC. But what I cant do is to transfer files. I really need help.

Have you created a folder on the external harddrive called NVIDIA_SHIELD?
If not, do that.
You can only read outside of that folder, but inside you can read/write.
I have not. I will try that and will respond back.
