My Galaxy s3 is now what appears to be a hard bricked phone. The only response I get is a red light when I plug it in and a bing when I plug it into the usb port. No recognition by the computer though.
This was caused by me trying to flash the kernel to a very common one (siyah) and after it completed successfully I did a reboot, now it won't turn on or go into CWM recovery or basic android recovery.
I've exhausted every possibility I can think of /googled to solve it such as.
1) Taking the battery out
2) Trying to make Odin recognize it
3) Trying to boot into the various recoveries
4) Trying many a different button combos
5) Leaving it to charge for a while
The only think I can think of that I haven't tried is a USB jig.
My question is, what now? Help me, please.
Well your first issue is that we don't have a siyah kernel for the i747. So, yeah.
You might need to try a jig. I if that doesn't work then you will need to send it off to get jtag fixed.

+1 with sending the device to jtag
Sent from my SGH-I747 using Tapatalk 2
Since you flashed an i9300 kernel, likely with bootloaders, and it won't do anything you will need to send it off for JTAG repair.
JTag time. You've flashed a kernel not meant for our device.
Thanks guys, I figured that was probably my only option. And I feel really dumb now. I'm used to jailbreaking, rooting it seems, requires you to be much more vigilant.
Thanks again.

I'd say it requires common sense. Don't flash something that's not meant for your phone!

Youtube and research my friend. Nearly can fix any phone no matter how bad you mess it up. Very rare that a JTAG can't fix a phone.

You have to know how to decompile, make changes, then recompile. Not only that, extensive knowledge of framework would help. Then test your work, May or may not be compatible or even work at all.

No problem, there's a lot to it if your not familiar with compiling, framework, java code, etc... I started to learn java code and stopped. That's only breaking the surface of Android OS.

No, I think lockscreens are part the framework. There are lock screen apps you can download, but most are battery hogs, and probably not what your wanting. I didn't have the time either. Java is kinda confusing to learn also, much less the rest of it.

Just curious, didn't know if there was any interest in this or if anybody else had looked into it. it should be doable now that we have S-Off and can unlocked bootloaders. Has anyone else attempted a port yet for the m7vzw or would anyone be interested in seeing one and/or helping with one. I'm pretty limited in my knowledge of the subject, but would be willing to toss my hat in the ring to try and help out if there's any interest.
I would be on board for trying to port. I can ask some guys to see if they would help.

Sweet, I'm looking into it myself to see how much of a challenge it would be, I know there seems to be some issues with 4.3 on our device, but we don't have a cm10.1 kernel we can use, so I don't know how much that'll hurt us.

Sounds like a plan.
Someone has already done some of the work for this:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Touch/Devices/M7
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2388593
I've actually run through the installer and it works, but only in the basic sense. No cell or data connections and it randomly crashes and reboots the phone.

The cell or data connection problem is likely because that build is for the AT&T and T-MO M7. Not the VZW M7.

I would be very pleased to see this done. I would be willing to test, if testers are needed. I won't be much for helping unfortunately as I am not skilled in porting as of yet, but would be glad to support.
Okay, so I have all my files in place and followed the instructions to a T.. except one part. I had to add the Optimus G into the config file, which then requires a manifest(?). This file is an XML and I have no idea how to even begin creating one for the LGOG. I've looked all over Google for answers, but nothing.
The Rookie ROM building tutorial seems to give a manifest of sorts, but that isn't working.
I'm pretty sure that after this one issue is resolved, I can build Firefox OS for the Optimus G succesfully.
Thanks for any help I can get and I hope to start building soon!
Here's the link to the manifest for the Nexus 4 that's already in the Git Repo, this one works, but not for the LGOG

Yup, tried a battery pull to no avail.
The only response I get is if I hold the power button (with or without any combination of the volume keys).
That gets me a brief red flash of the LED.
