My phone has been randomly shutting off, and by random, I do mean just that. It will tell me I have a full charge and then shut off, and then every attempt to restart it, will cause it to immediately shut off again. Sometimes I wait half an hour, and then turn it on, and it will last me the rest of the day on standby. Sometimes it lasts me several hours playing music, other times (most notably when using wifi or gprs, it will only last minutes).
I have seen on occasion the battery indicator will give me a warning saying its almost dead when I reboot it, before it shuts itself off again. This is going from 80+ % full to suppposedly nearly drained in an instant.
So yeah ok, maybe I need a new battery? Thats what I figured, until I bought a car charger. The charger was from the T-mobile store, it was marked for the Dash and Wing.
When I plug it in, i get the charging icon, the little orange LED, but it gets incredibly hot. Almost too hot to hold in about 10 minutes. It doesn't seem to charge it at all, even though it gives me the icon.
I should mention, the phone NEVER dies in use when plugged into the wall or USB, nor does it heat up, but it will act up randomly like previously described when using the car charger.
What do you guys think? Should i get a new battery or do you think something else is wrong? I do enjoy the things I can do with this phone, but its starting to become more trouble than it is worth I think (was always bothered by the memory leak to begin with...).
I've done lots of searching, but I haven't found anyone with this specific problem.
(Too long; didn't read it) at the bottom.
So it all started about a month ago. I plugged in my Evo 4g for the night (As the battery often lasts me a full day.) at around 10% I sleep very well and peacefully. When I wake up in the morning I notice my battery is still at 10%. "CRAP!" I thought, "Did I forget to plug it in?" So I checked everything, made sure it was plugged in, and went to class, without the phone of course. When I got back later that day, I went to my phone, and it was STILL at 10% I was freaking out. I thought my battery had died already! (At this point the phone was less than 2 weeks old.) Finally after being unable to charge, and only having 10% battery, the thing went kaput. Died. I could not for the life of me charge the phone. So I left it sitting around while I had screaming matches with not only Sprint, but the Radioshack I picked it up at. Ugh. About a week later and just as I was about to pay $100 for a new phone, I fixed it. I don't know how, or what happened. I plugged it in out of habbit, and BAM it started working. "**** YOU SPRINT!" *Hangs up phone.* I went on my marry way, being extra careful now to monitor the battery (Which was charging very normally, and lasting me a full day at little to moderate use) Then one day I was just sitting around playing videogames this past Saturday and thought "I'm not using my phone, I'll plug it in and forget about it." (The battery being at 70%.) I plugged it in and about 4 hours (And some amazing killstreaks on CoD) later, my friend called me to ask if I wanted to get lunch (He called my Evo, of course.) "Sure! I'll be right there." I hung up, closed the phone app, looked at my battery, and my heart sank. ...70% "NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!" (Read: Darth Vader) How could this happen AGAIN?! I used it for the rest of the day conserving as much juice as possible, and trying to charge it every chance I got. But alas.. it died once again. Now, nothing I've tried has worked. I pulled the battery over and over, plugged it in for hours and then tried to turn it on, tried a USB charger, and wall charger (Both HTC, the out of the box original) I tried my roomates LG chargers (USB and wall) Nothing worked! Then I was randomly pressing buttons when I held Power+Up (Which apparently is some kind of hacker-magic) and I got to a white screen! I thought I was saved! I let go of the power button to move around on the screen, or do something at all. Then nothing. It immediately went back to black. And now, it doesn't even go to the white screen anymore! So my question is, (Finally, god he rambled on forever) is there anything I can do to save my amazing phone outside of buying a new battery? Is this a known issue? Even with a new battery, would the same problem occur? And most importantly: What's causing this? Am I at error? Or is it the phone's fault?
Also, sorry for the long story, but I'm sure you get 1000 "Y MY FONE NO WERK?" And I wanted to make mine interesting, at least.
TL;DR My phone doesn't charge, tried every suggestion I could find.

This may sound really simple but......have you tried another battery?
I need some help.
I was charging my Epic4G Touch last night - it was around 40 percent, and I was going to spend all day out, so I wanted it fully charged. The phone gets a little warm when it charges, but that's normal. Well, I feel asleep, and I guess I was tired enough to put the phone underneath both of my pillows, aaaaand a fuzzy blanket.
I woke up this morning to the phone practically on fire - it was insanely hot, and it wouldn't turn on. I disassembled the phone - took the case off, took off the battery cover, and took the flaming hot battery out. After letting it cool down, I tried putting it back together, and the phone won't turn on. I tried plugging the phone into it's charger again, and the blue light flashes, the screen flashes on and shows the empty battery icon, then almost instantly turns off. The light itself is really dull.
I don't know what to do. Has anyone else had this problem, or have any ideas? I'm going to try again in a few minutes, but I'm in New York right now (I live in CT, USA), so I can't visit the Sprint Store with the owner of the line.

Hate to say it, but it sounds like the charger could have eaten your phone. I bought an E4GT about a year ago and the first thing I did was ditch the charger. Weird charge times and rendered the phone unusable while it was charging (would act erratically, charging resyults were inconsistent,
For me, this was corrected when I picked up another charger with the correct specs (5v, .7 amps). I stayed with OEM, but blew past the sprint store to avoid the ridiculous charges. Here are two that I picked up from Amazon:
OEM Travel charger (use at home):
http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-Trave...4786445&sr=1-1&keywords=epic+4g+touch+charger
OEM Car charger:
http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-Trave...4786445&sr=1-1&keywords=epic+4g+touch+charger
They are very reasonably priced and I've not had any other issues.
In your case, however, you may want to take phone and charger into Sprint, as it sounds as if your phone may have suffered damage. If you get a new phone (via warranty or insurance), I would recommend getting one or both of the above chargers. Together, these two items are still much cheaper than one bought from Sprint.

I had a similar incident where my power was out & charged with my phone in my car (bad move but wasn't thinking in all the frenzy) and the same thing happened to my phone.. I pulled the battery let my phone sit for a while (a few hours) to cool off and it was back to normal.. You might want to try that, well give it a little longer.. I may have been lucky though

Well, after a day, things seem to be normal. I had to leave the battery out and alone for about 3 hours, but after, when I plugged it in, it started to charge again. So far, everything seems normal, including the battery life, so that's good.
Thanks to both of you. I don't think it was the charger, but picking up another charger is never a bad thing.
Check and see if the sides of your battery are bulged out at all. You should not be able to spin it on a table top for example. If it is at all, you should replace the battery.
Just make sure you spin it clockwise, if you spin it counterclockwise Steve Jobs well poltergeist out of your closet and eat your Epic touch.
He's still out for revenge.

Howdy, guys.
I've got my One rooted, unlocked, and was running a CM10.2 nightly build. Everything was working fine until yesterday, when my battery started to rapidly discharge. I woke up with 100% battery, and after about 15 minutes of playing music it was down to 30%. I recharged it and started noticing rapid battery loss, about 10% per 15 minutes when the phone was idle.
Worried that this had to do with my ROM, I flashed the Eclipse Google Play Edition v1.2 ROM. However, the drain issue continued. I decided to let the phone fully discharge, then try powering it up again.
When it was fully discharged, I tried plugging in the phone. No LED came on and I couldn't turn the phone on. I've let it sit for over 2 hours now with the same result.
Some posts with similar symptoms have mentioned plugging the phone into a Windows PC and experiencing the "USB device plugged in" sound alert. I am not having any such luck, and what I currently have is a very aesthetically pleasing paperweight with no function whatsoever.
Has anyone else experienced a similar issue, or found a fix?
none
I would take that back to Verizon were i you, sounds like a bad battery to me, chances are remote that it's the phone/hardware/software. they have to repair it despite the fact it's rooted, they probably wont even notice lol
Were it me, back to verizon we go
Last Sunday, listening to music with HTC One (bought on Sep 11) on the charger, it suddenly went dark. Would not reboot, no charge light either. Went to a VZW store, they're shipping me a warranty replacement.
I wonder whether my habit of leaving it charger-connected whenever it's sitting on my desk (i.e., way beyond the fully-charged point) somehow stressed the battery (or the charging circuitry) -- though that habit never impacted my two previous HTC models.
When you hold Vol+Down and Power do your home and back arrows blink? If so, point the phone sensors (the two on the front on the left hand side) into a bright light. Then hold down Vol+Down and Power. It should boot. I'm not sure why. But it worked for me today after installing a custom recovery. -shrugs-

I've got a replacement being shipped to me, and I'll send them the old one when it comes in. Currently using an old Samsung Stratosphere as a replacement, I was just hoping there'd be an easier fix or something simple. Thanks, though!
First of all, please forgive the "urgent" wording in the title, but I'm really desperate.
I'm on vacation in another country, flight back is in less than 3 hours.
Earlier, I stowed my phone in my pocket while going on a water slide. I admit it's not the brightest of ideas, but I figured what's the point of owing a waterproof phone if I can't even take it to the water park for on demand shoots, right? Anyway, my phone slipped out of my pockets at the end of the slide, and it sunk to the bottom, submerged for about 7 minutes before I realized it was gone and retrieved it.
Nightmare ensues. First it won't turn on, then after a few attempts at powering on (including vol up + pwr), it vibrated once as if it was going to turn on, but then got stuck at the Sony logo, shortly after it simply died. Nothing could wake it. I did a quick inspection of all the flaps, no visible water damage.
I'm actually okay with it being a brick. But the real problem began about a few hours later. It started vibrating, non-stop. Powered off, no screen. No response to anything. I even tried the hard power off using the OFF button in the SIM slot, doesn't stop vibrating.
So right now, with only a few hours left until a 4 hour flight, I desperately need a way to somehow STOP the vibrating. I have to carry the phone on board since it's got a lithium battery built in, can't stow it in my luggage. The vibrating is really loud and annoying, and I know it's going to drive the entire cabin crazy. My initial hope was that the continuous vibrating will drain the battery and die on its own, but after at least 8 hours straight it's still going strong - I don't even know if I should be mad or glad.
I'm not looking for a fix to the bricked phone right now, my only priority is to get it to stop vibrating ASAP. Please, by all the powers of XDA, help!!!
Hey.
A bit late... I hope everything went okay on your flight.
But there was really not much you could do. Except smash it on the ground or remove the back panel and cut the battery (not easily doable though).
Did it stop? Its amazing it vibrated for so long without dying. But I guess its just another proof that the screen is the biggest battery drainer

Ok, here's the follow up.
While waiting at the airport, I decided to try turning on the phone one last time, and amazingly it turned on. Unfortunately, that didn't stop the vibration, so I tried shutting it down properly. Still no luck. Suggests it's likely a hardware issue causing the malfunction.
The good news is that the battery was down to 7% at that point, so the most sensible thing to do was to exhaust the remaining juice. I turned the phone back on, set screen brightness to max, switched off ALS, disabled low battery mode, and ran the most taxing game I had. It took about 10 minutes to hit 1%, but I did not expect it to last an additional 20 minutes after hitting the 1% mark. I was playing intensive 3D game on max brightness all that time. It simply refuses to run out of battery!
About half an hour before departure, the system finally automatically forced shut down. You'd think the vibrating would also finally come to an end, but alas, it kept vibrating afterwards. Pretty amazing how much battery life is available. At one point I figured I might have discovered perpetual unlimited power. It was still going strong after boarding, so I put the phone in my laptop bag and stowed it in the overhead compartment, hoping that would suppress any sound. Thankfully, along with the ambient noise of the plane, the vibration sound wasn't audible.
Unfortunately, my dreams of winning a Nobel prize for the discovery of limitless power was shot down after landing. Tomorrow it's off to the service center. Or maybe a new Z3 compact.
