[Q] Keyboard choices with 4.2.2 out of the box - Galaxy Note 8.0 (Tablet) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooti

My Note 8 came with 4.2.2 out of the box. My keyboard option is only the full keyboard, no option to select the floating or split keyboards. I did a factory reset (seems to be the standard suggestion for any problem when you call the manufacturer, not just Samsung). This didn't fix the issue, I didn't have high hopes since it came from the factory this way. I have an open issue with the Samsung 800 support folks, still hopeful they will find a solution. I have been on the phone with them numerous times and so far no luck. Has anyone out there found this same issue with a Note 8 with 4.2.2 out of the box? Am I missing anything else that I haven't discovered yet? I know that many options on my Note 2 aren't on this device.

When the keyboard is displayed, pinch in the keyboard and you'll get some options for keyboard display there, including split keyboard

I tried that, no luck, it just types the letters I sweep over.

Try going to the keyboard settings and turn off "Continous input"

I don't see that setting in my keyboard settings.
My problem seems to be due to my device being loaded with a build that nobody at Samsung has been able to track down, it's not the 4.2.2 build that was delivered in the upgrade. They are still working on it, hopefully they will figure out how I can load the right build.

,
When the keyboard is up, there should be a button in the lower right hand side that has a little gear on it. Click and hold it, that should bring up an icon menu. Hit the one that looks like a gear, that should bring up the Samsung keyboard settings.

That is what I am using and where I expect to see the 3 choices. I don't have the options.

(By the way I meant the left side, not the right)
If you go to settings -> Language and input do you see the Samsung keyboard? If you do, try hitting the gear to the right of the Samsung keyboard listing.
Otherwise, right now if I were you I'd be looking for a paddle.

I'm definately up the creek until Samsung throws me a paddle.

[Q] Samsung Keyboard - No Auto Complete?

I cannot figure out how to turn on auto complete for the Samsung Keyboard. I have looked through the options and I dont see a setting for it.
I like the keyboard because it has the number keys along the top and the one handed mode is nice.
Are there any other keyboards that will display the numbers at the top? I cannot find a way to do it with SwiftKey, Swipe, or the stock JB keyboard. I realize the one handed mode would be more difficult to find in a 3rd party keyboard and is not as important.

Predictive text is on
Continous input is checked but is option is greyed out so it cannot be changed. The continous input does not seem to work... It is supposed to be like swipe, right?
What about auto correct? words dont correct themselves for me, i downloaded the stock jb keyboard from the market and that auto corrects words but it looks huge on the note 2
Yeah, when I said Auto Complete, I guess i meant Auto Correct. I get word suggestions at the top of the keyboard but I have to click them to get them to be used. They don't just automatically get inserted when I hit the space bar and it wont automatically correct stuff like "thats" to "that's"
I looked through the internation GN2 forumns and found this
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1937440
looks like its just missing as a feature. Call it a bug whatever, sux...
Any suggestions for keyboards that allow you to have the number buttons along the top as well as having auto complete/correct?

mine didn't do this with the galaxy s3 either... predictive text sucks I don't want to have to press the word I want every time. Swift keyboard was awesome on the s3 but like you I want to keep the numbers at the top
Yes this has really bothered me! I can't believe it won't auto correct...I went back to swiftkey 3 but had to come back to the default samsung keyboard because having those numbers at the top is just too good to let go...I hope this gets fixed in an update :/

MultiWindow Keybord

Yo!
So i got a question. I'm useing multiwindow, but its hard to write with swype, because i dont see what im writing. Ofc Samsung came up with and idea. The Idea
check the video at 5:00 See that "pop up" kind of keybord? Is there any way to get it on out device?
You could use messagease. The smallest size (11) is tiny and you can still write on it. I'm using it now. On my Note II it only takes up about 2cm². It can also be moved left or right across the screen.

Longpress key left from space (usually mic is there), and when popup shows up, press little keyboard icon. And you will have that keyboard.

That's not a problem. That's a setting in the keyboard. Depending on the keyboard, back when the screen resolution wasn't so high, the keyboard took so much height that you couldn't read anything while typing. Now most keyboards allow that option to either bring up the text box (which is what you have) or to leave it out so you can see the window and the keyboard on top.

Something to do with 1 handed mode from Goodlock, there is already a recent thread about this somewhere

I just got the Pie upgrade today in the UK. Try using Google Keyboard (Gboard) I prefer it to SwiftKey.
I just uninstalled goodlock but still got the 2gray lines?

I guess you have the One Hand Operation + which is part of Good Lock. I would not uninstall it, but embrace, it's the best side gestures you get on Android and it's native to Sammy! You just need to know how to set it up. You can e.g. swipe diagonally up to get to your recents, swipe horizontally to "back" and diagonally down to home. I also have the diagonal long swipe set to lock the screen, pretty neat! The grey lines I don't like, but just open the app and make them transparent and you're good to go
Having problems with multiple keyboards too, I don't think it likes the curved edge

Question Put accessibility button back in the bottom button bar

I'm going through eye surgery and one of the things that I use quite a bit is the accessibility magnification.
In the latest versions of Android OS, there's some kind of floating thing that sticks to the sides of the screen and is almost constantly in the way of something I need to tab or whatever.
Loved it so much better when I had access to the button down at the bottom. I could just click it when I needed it.
So is there any way to put that back? I honestly did try to search but I don't think I'm using the correct search terms so I never found anything useful.

that shortcut is moveable but you are right, it can get in the way and is annoying.
Are you using 3 button navigation? In the accessability options under Acessability Shortcut, it says you need to use 3 button nav for it appear in the navigation bar.

Huh. I have a three button navigation running. I'll have to look at the settings and see what I'm missing. I don't suppose it makes any difference that this is a pixel 6 pro running the latest?

Yeah, I just checked the settings and it is definitely on and there is no indication or slider or anything that says to add it to the navigation bar.
First of all, I don't run the factory system image, I run GrapheneOS, which is a security minded distribution of google-free AOSP.
Looks like the option you're looking for is at the bottom of the accessibility menu, "Accessibility shortcuts". Go in there and select "Accessibility button", then "Location", and select "Navigation bar". That would do it for you, at least on Graphene. Hope it helps.
Oh you rock!!
What an odd place to put that choice. It's buired where I wouldn't think to look for it.
