I am curious - ] which custom recovery where you using? (and were you able to fix this?)
Yeah, I got it. I did research and I tried the adb shell method and it worked. It took me awhile to figure out how to use the terminal. That scared the crap outta me though. Geeeeeeeezzzz! Thanks guys!

Glad you got it back up and running !!!
I have banged my head against walls and forgotten to eat because of this bootloop...i thought all hope was lost...and since it's a demo from work, i would have to replace it, without the grand luxury of keeping it...you have saved my peace of mind...of course your fix has just been sitting there taunting me but i wanted to see if i could figure it out myself...anyway, thank you so much!!! i can sleep now.

Hello,
Noob here. I've run into this issue with my Nandroid restores where I suddenly lose write permissions. I can still read, but if I try to write anything to the root, I get a insufficient permissions error.
Using CWM 5.0.2.6
SuperSU v.0.87
Clean Stock ICS from KIES
Odin 1.85 Flash CWM
Backup
Root w/ SuperSU v.0.87
Success.
Spend hours upon hours making it perfect V1
Backup Perfect V1
Spend hours upon hours perfecting perfection...
Which leads to imperfection(Deleted necessary System File)
Restore Perfect V1
Write access lost.
Is there a way I can regain the root somehow without a clean install?
Thank you in Advance.
I believe this is a known issue when restoring nandroid back ups. Your only recourse is to reflash the rom and start over.

I just posted this yesterday...use touch recovery and it will work...i went through a lot trying to get this to work yesterday...i thought it was the device management doing it..so after i restored before booting i pulled my Sim and then booted phone froze dm then rebooted with Sim...but once you notice no rw it's to later and you have to start from the backup again...I've used both touch recoveries and they work fine...but cwm 2.6 and 2.7 don't work they also cause my phone to hang when turning off....but this will only work if the backup is right to begin with...

You can hit normal..updates fine that way. Doesn't need recovery to install. Takes 2 seconds and no reboot
So I'll do this fast, I ain't a noob with flashing and rooting etc (4 years experience) but today I had a first one in my life that soft bricked my T999V. I've downloaded the LiquidRom for T-mobile to test it, i've wiped all, cache and etc 3 times but the second time in the TWRP console it wrote and error like XXXXX directory not found ... I've never saw this type of error. So I flashed the rom + the latest Gapps , wiped dalvik an rebooted. The rom was blazing fast. But I decided to return to my Rom , so i wiped all again but still getting that error ! I restored the Nbackup and it rebooted wierdly and the rom was completly messed-up. So i close the phone and wanted to restard in recovery... Not existing anymore, gone.. GONE ! But i could boot in download.. I've completly recovert it right now but still this wierd error almost messed up my phon and it wasnt even my fault !
So did it ever happend to your S3 ?
I haven't experienced that yet and I hope I don't lol but at least it was only a soft brick. Thanks for the heads up though just incase someone runs into that problem.
So is everything running good now?

He means that he didnt deliberately do it. Perhaps he read everything and when he went to flash it it through an error. That happens. Could be a bad download or something

hey guys i was flashing an arhd rom and after flaw i wanted to romove bloat so i tried mounting by usb to load the file. in the mount section i checked ext/sd card phone went black and dead. does this mean that now only my sd card is read or mountable, can i load a recovery on my sd, put it back in and start from there? i have been flashing and developing for years and evidently to tired to attempt what i was doing. phone is DEAD. NO DWNLD MODE OR RECOVERY i'm thinking its trying to load just off of my sd. i know very stupid mistake, was used to HTC phones. any help much appreciated

So I just flashed to beanstalk and so far the only error I've encountered is that the chameleon launcher doesn't work. Is this fixable? Is it worth it? I had no idea you didn't have functionality with that launcher. What exactly does it do? FC? Or nothing at all? I'll see what I can find out. PM me with details....
noob no shame!!!!
So this would be my first time flashing a new rom, saw the beanstalk and made me want to try something new. Followed instructions to the tee as per requested from BMP7777. Put rom and gapps on the internal storage. Using twrp wiped data, cache, and dalvik, on to flash the rom. Everything went smooth which is what twrp said; SUCCESFUL! Rebooted the phone and got a kernel crash. Now the phone is in Demigod crash handler. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Did I do something wrong? and yes I rooted and unlocked boot loader all before this* Would greatly appreciate it! THANKS**

You might need to wipe caches and data/ factory reset.
Or wipe caches, factory reset.
Or wipe all 4 items in Advanced part of TWRP. And reinstall your ROM. Sounds like you had a bad flash to start with.

In TWRP, under the Wipe section, there is an Advanced part. Tick all 4, it does not wipe your SD.

Its gotta be a bad download. Try downloading it again, or another ROM.
