Just unlocked and flashed cm-10.1.3-d2att 2 days ago, 1st time since I got GS3. This morning I got an ATT software update notice. Should I run it? My instinct is definitely not.
I am hoping it may be 4.3 tho, but thinking it is the phone wanting to update me back to stock.
thanks for your helps.
CM doesn't have any kind of ATT OTA related software... it must be just CM updater thing.

It's an AT&T update notice. When i clicked ok it rebooted into recovery and asked if I wanted to install an un-trusted package.

That's really weird... I've never seen or heard that happening but my best guess is to just ignore it or redownload the zip and flash again...
So, what happened when you installed the update?

nothing. havent done it. I have 2 weeks of business travel tomorrow out of the country. Would be a bad time to play around and brick it.

I saw on other threads where some owners like myself just got our phones on 7/1 and the latest update was added by sprint employees.
1. I followed the instructions here
and that didn't work even though odin showed it PASS i'm still seeing sprint recovery, not CWM. I downloaded the latest Odin 3.0.7.
2. I followed this here when I click on vol down/home/power it still brings me into the sprint recover, I point it to the Teamepic root from recover v4. and it failed with E: signature verification failed.
3. I found this here but I don't see anyone responded that tried it out yet, so I don't know if this is good or not.

You have to unplug the usb and pull the battery before the stock Rom boots, then go to recovery it should be cwm, then flash root zip

First, you should have put this in general or Q&A.
I had problems showing root after I applied the update as well. I flashed the previous version of superuser and then it worked. You have to make sure you uncheck auto reboot in Odin when flashing cwm v4. After complete, pull and replace battery and then try to boot into cwm.

1. Questions like this, in the future, beling in the Q & A section
2. You can root with the latest update > You need to flash the LATEST root method from team epic to prevent the stock recovery being reflashed upon boot
3. vol up + home + power = recovery menu ; vol down + home + power = download mode [odin]

after you root be sure to check out VOODOO OTA root keeper
I've been a member at this site since 07 I just don't post much because I tend to find my answers by searching, so I know the rules and regulations!!!!, it was a simple mistake of logging the thread in the wrong section, I got it the 1st time someone said it.
No wonder people are leaving this board and finding others, 2 many people here on their high horse like you guys never made a mistake.
for the rest of you who replied, thanks, I will try that and see what happens.
Relax man...no body scolded you, they were simply explaining that you posted in the wrong section. Posting in the wrong section can clutter up the sections when you have so many members posting and looking for answers. That should be very understandable to you since you have been a member for so long. But I will say that when YOU come back with nasty replies to people, which no one did to you, telling everyone that they are the reason people are leaving this site, then all that does is create animosity and start arguments. Had you simply replied something more civilized such as "sorry everyone, I posted this in the wrong section by mistake". I think that would have looked far better from a veteran lurker such as yourself. Oh yeah, and I doubt a few people leaving this site because of their attitude problems and inability to get along with others or take criticism, is hardly going to hurt the number of members that are STILL members of this site....LMAO
Now you say you usually don't post because you find your own answer by searching. Well, had you searched a little further, you would have found the thread that states "[HOW TO] Easiest Root and Recovery: SGS3 LTE Sprint, T-Mobile, AT&T, Rogers"...and in that thread you would have found two things...
1. the link to the correct method to root from the CM Team Epic
2. the reason why you need to use a special method to root after the new sprint update
Now before you come back at me with some hateful words or statements, step back from the computer, take a deep breath, realize you messed up, and continue on with your mission of finding the information by clicking the link I posted above and finally rooting your phone.
Goodluck rooting
Cheers!

As per the dev, Supercuriou, update tools like KIES/Odin for Samsung devices make it so OTA Root Keeper does not work. In fact, when you open up the app for the first time, you see:
Useless with Samsung phones updated via KIES or Odin

I guess this could change in the future, but for now this seems to be the case. See also the dev's thread here:

Not sure this app will work on the S3 since it didn't work on any other Galaxy S versions, but it can't hurt I suppose. :screwy:

Lets agree to disagree and move on because it only takes 1 person to say you posted something in the wrong thread, not 3+ to chime in after the 1st person.
As for the link you posted, I found that in my search after my initial post which worked.

Unless the latest update didn't break root the VooDoo root keeper is running on my phone currently. I installed it then did the update and still have root.

hey there stranger! any chance to link this to a standalone q and a for sprint and or other company devices? i can see the general q and a thread growing with every other carriers device(s) as the days progress. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1746566
also, i too have this rooting issue. have tried the flashable team epic zip as well as the cwm one. the cwm one seems to work better.

I tried turning superuser off but it didn't seem to work. i tried root keeper and that didn't work. i just want to update to the newest software update my phone keeps saying is available but when i try it, it goes into cwm and says the update is aborted. obviously because my phone is still rooted. i want the update without have to wipe date. any help? thanks. and be kinda specific, i was able to root my phone a few months ago but im not tech savvy on every little thing. thanks!
Your update is failing because you have a custom recovery not because you are rooted.
Please go to settings > about phone > baseband version and post what the last three numbers/letters are...
Depending on what version you are currently on there may be a flashable zip available for download, or it may be easier to just flash a complete ROM.
Please search, this question regarding how to take the update properly (no need to unroot) has been answered many times by both myself and others
Also, questions go in the "Q&A" forum
Yeah, all you have to do is look through either cnexus' or my own posts and you'll find the answer you're looking for. Look for threads in the q&a forum with the title similar to "OTA update?" There's at least three of them on there from the last week alone.

That won't work for what this person wants to do (run the OTA). The best way to do this is by checking out CNexus' sticky thread on what to do with an OTA. His thread is very informative and has good instructions on how to update or, at the very least, turn off the OTA notifications.
So I tried three times tonight to use either the toolkit, cf-root and OneClick to root and install twrp...
Each and every time I got twrp I tried flashing a rom and before rebooting after the flash, twrp tells me it appears I don't have root. WTF? I even used root checker to verify...
And after I choose to install superuser it soft bricks my phone to the point where it won't boot and sticks on the boot screen (black with white Samsung Galaxy Note II) and does nothing.
I am stumped. Anybody have an idea why this is happening? Do I have a rogue device that will not cooperate???
Thanks.

Aren't all Sprint Note II's SPH-L900?
Yes they are. But some have been asking questions and before I give out wrong info I wanted to be sure you had the right model number. Lots of att note 2 users asking questions lately.

I just flashed it back to stock and I guess I'm gonna leave it that way. Too much hassle to try and keep root with twrp. Just pisses me off that this device is not functioning like the last Note II I had...
Hi everyone,
I'm really desperate for any information that can help me. Please be kind here...I haven't done anything techy stuff like this before.
Here's the situation.
My phone was rooted with supersu since I got it (my colleague helped to do it), but due to an issue with my international roaming, I decided after 1 year to try and unroot and upgrade from 4.1.1 to 4.2/3
However, upon unrooting, i found that I could not upgrade due to the count and decided that I had to try and root it again to use triangle away.
Here is where it gets FUBAR.
I ran Odin and flashed the following:
I9305_CWM_Recovery.tar.md5
Samsung-Updates.com-KERNEL-GT-I9305-SIN-I9305XXBMB2-1359977044
My phone was still working then, but I wasn't too sure how to install the binary until many tries later ...
But somehow because I didn't know how to install the binary, I ran the "Auto Root": CF-Auto-Root-t03g-t03gxx-gtn7100.tar.md5
After which, my screen flashed blue ...
When it wouldn't boot up, I flashed:Samsung-Updates.com-KERNEL-GT-I9305-SIN-I9305XXBMB2-1359977044
And did a factory reset.
The hard and soft buttons are working, but the touch screen is dead. Thinking it was a OS issue, I flashed the stock rom: I9305XXALI9_I9305OLBALI8_I9305DXALI7_HOME.tar.md5 1.2Gb file
And right now, no change. Hard and Soft buttons working, touch screen is dead....
Anybody?

As long as something is working it is not bricked. A brick means completely dead, like a brick. Perhaps the ribbon cable came loose from the touchscreen.
This is the Sprint US variant S3 section. From everything you posted you have an International model. You are in the wrong section.

Hello all,
I got my Galaxy SIII working nicely so far with the firmware 4.1.1, rooted and tethering ok. I really don't have the motivation to update. And one of my co-worker has the pretty much same situation with me, but his phone is bricked while update, which scare me even more. (Good that AT&T send him another one because the issue was cause my AT&T's update) So, now my phone is buzzing me to update, and I can only postpone it so far. Is there anyway that I can simply turn-off the AT&T Software Update prompt?
Thanks.
You can use the paid version of Titanium Backup to freeze the update. Aside from that, the update bricking the phone sounds to be a random event. Either it was a bad download or he already had faulty hardware. If you are under warranty and go about the update correctly, you could warranty the phone if you had the unfortunate brick occur (which is highly unlikely).

Freeze "AT&T Software Update" and clear the data.

Or if you don't have it, flash any non-stock recovery. The update will boot into recovery, but will fail if you have a custom recovery.
