i put a question on the Samsung question page for the galaxy w about how to get the phone to connect to a tv without allshare as we don't have that option.
it seems hard to word it how they want as they declined the question first time round but eventually accepted it and stated that i could use a 3.5mm to rca tv out cable but didn't state if anything needed to be done to enable a setting anywhere. now they won't allow the extra question so i just tried it in the tv but no good.
am i missing a setting somewhere maybe?
the posts that generally come up if i google it are for the galaxy s which has a specific setting for tv-out but the W doesn't.
bump, any ideas guys?
Don't know why but I do have all share on my phone if its missing from yours I guess you just have to add it.
see this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1465668
thanks for the reply mate.
i do have allshare but the tv doesn't utilise it as it's a Sony unless i am missing something.
thanks again, any other suggestions guys?
i spoke to samsung today who at first said the W could use a 3.5mm rca cable and to just enable tv-out in the display settings. when i told her that setting wasn't there she said she'd look into it more and get back to me, guess what, she didn't.
is this maybe a software thing with the hardware part being possibly capable of doing it or the opposite?
thanks guys
As far as I know, you can't do that directly.
I think the only way is to hook your computer/laptop to the TV and then use something like this method described here - howtogeek.com/howto/42491/how-to-remote-view-and-control-your-android-phone/ to stream the live video feed from your phone to your computer - and thus to your TV.
But again, I'm not entirely sure that you can't just directly hook the phone to the TV.
hi all!!! everyone have a nokia cable tv to try??? or a micro usb -> hdmi to try it??? i want to buy but i'm not sure if is good for own galaxy W....sorry for my bad english
Got to admit it sucks not having TV-Out when they say you do. I'm sure the phone is more than capable to do this.
I just tried the tv-out thing with a hdmi adaptor made by samsung and it dosent work at all.

I tried that and all I could get was sound and no picture. I even tried it by plugging the leads into a scart converter and still no luck. Care to explain how you got it working as I can't see any TV-Out option at all like in the Galaxy S?

RGA cable.. it had red yellow and white right.? maybe try to mix with other colors.. like red cable place into yellow. yellow cable place into red. and white cable place into white make a combination until it get color or as i read... they said... go to display.. then tv out.. ( not very sure coz i dont have my 2.5m-3.5m jack converter .. ( since i gonna use my old nokia RGA cable jajaja ) ( and sorry for my very bad english )
BTW.. someone said on other forums..
Code:
I do agree that there is need of 3.5mm jack to the RCA TV out cable . [B]you have to enable tv-out into the display settings.[/B] you can also use DLNA if the your TV is having support for that. It is working great with this particular phone and Samsung or LG devices.
thats what they said
Yeah it had the red, yellow, white. Unlike the Galaxy S there is no option under display to enable TV-Out or in the AllShare either.

Honestly speaking there is no support
o O From My Ancora o O
Seems strange that Samsung in their 'Galaxy W' page of questions say it is possible with a rga cable. Just a shot in the dark and probably wrong but would it be feasible to take the TV-Out apk (if that's what it's called) from the galaxy S and put it on the W to try. Looking at this page but can't see it so probably not. Also way above my knowledge.
Just spoke to Samsung US support and the guy I spoke to said the US version does support Tv-Out through HDMI cable. He couldn't confirm though whether the European version did!

Daniel: I understand that you want to connect your device to the TV. Is that correct?
Daniel: Did you purchase the device in US?

Daniel: As we are in chat support troubleshoot technical issues related to Samsung US devices. We do have details about Samsung US devices. We do not have any information regarding non U.S. devices.
Daniel: Yes, some US Galaxy models do have TV-out and can connect the device to TV using HDMI cable.

Daniel: Yes, US model does support HDMI cable.

Connectivity demo video [UDPATE: new vid, NOVA 3+PS3 controller+HDTV+"how to" guide]
Basically rather large medley showing many of the connection options available for the Galaxy S3, make sure to use the nav links in the video description to get around the vid:
Note: Since the video I also got NOVA 3 on my S3 and playing it via MHL on my HDTV with a PS3 controller over bluetooth (every bit as freaking sweet as it sounds). Anyone want a guide?
[UPDATE] Demo and guide for playing NOVA 3 wirelessly via a PS3 controller, much better experience (especially on an HDTV and with a home theatre system connected!). Until you've made videos where you control the game by viewing it through the viewfinder in your camera please refrain from being too critical about how badly I suck
Ya sure a guide would b much appreciated

Yep, it's the one that is specific to the S3 (11 pin set-up, rather than 5 like the older ones - I have two of those so I'm annoyed about the change too).

Excellent video mate, is the S3 your main phone these days? I'm sure I remember you doing a similar review on the Galaxy Note, that's what I have although I did get an S3 for the missus and it is tempting, but I'm holding out for the Note 2.
By the way, can you point me in the direction of a relatively cheap bluetooth keyboard and mouse that will work with my Note, but a set that doesn't come with a usb dongle since I want to use the micro usb port on the phone to connect it via MHL to my TV. If that makes sense.

Yep, S3 is my daily (still love my Note though). Will get the Note 2 for sure and totally respect holding out for it.
Understand what you're saying about the keyboard thing and MHL, will take a look and find some suitable ones for you.
Wow, now that is impressive. I can't believe how much you can do with the S3, simply amazing. The S3 kicks all other "smart" phones back to the dark ages . Another vote for a numptys guide please, first time smart/droid phone user here. Or I will be if my phone ever turns up

Awesome. $10 sure beats $40 for the official adapter. Just need some compatibility confirmation reviews before pulling the trigger.
Is there anyone out there with a USB DAC who can verify the S3 can actually output digital audio via USB?
This is a long time wish for audiophiles, who will all be getting an S3 if this functionality works.

Well, the on the Samsung germany site, they have what LOOKS like the same dock and they say it works for both. the part number is slightly different (that could just be an EU/US thing though).
I would expect some shimming to be needed for the S3 to fit... but (as another member pointed out) it might lock the phone in portrait mode....
Really interested in this as well. If everything else works, I can live with the portrait mode. Hopefully someone will post a hands-on soon.
i already have the Galaxy S3 dock. and the locking into portrait mode does not bother me.
the main reason i picked it up in the first place is so i can audio out and charge, instead of plugging in USB and AUX cable.
i also tried to see if a 5-pin MHL adapter would work from the dock end, but it didn't.
here's hoping that this will work on the S3.
I am hoping for this dock to work on S3 too. I am holding onto my 50% off coupon code for this dock.

Yeah, it sounds like you could have walked up to any pretzel stand in the mall and asked this question and you'd probably get the same answer. Most likely "Tina" is actually Ramajesh.
I don't see why it wouldn't be compatible. Unless Samsung intentionally made it not compatible. This link shows that the 11-pin MHL cable is compatible with both (http://www.samsung.com/us/mobile/cell-phones-accessories/EPL-3FHUBEGSTA-compatible), so that means the it's the same exact port in both phones. The only way I figure it won't work is if Samsung purposely tries to detect that it's an S3, and blocks it.
I am sure it works.
the only reason it would not work is not something related to the MHL thing but the shape of the stand , and I don't know the difference between the S3 and the Note 2 so I am not sure about that.
and as for the girl from the costumer service , I would consider her another retarded person from the way she was responding.

If they're out anywhere, I would think Korea would be the place! Keep an eye out and let us know. Also, have a safe trip!
fitting into the dock should not be an issue. since the Note II is 9.4mm thick, and the S3 is 8.6mm thick. most likely even with an extended battery (like what i have) on the S3 will fit in this dock.
agreed though, if anything would stop compatibility, it would be the MHL adapter built into this dock. yet again may be another change Samsung did to make people buy separate accessories. perhaps a differently aligned 11-pin adapter? that would suck.
I guess we'll just have to see, but one thing that may help as far as physically fitting, is that it looks like the Note II has a flatter bottom, whereas the GS3's bottom is curved out more, so the microUSB port should extend down -- it just may not sit as stable without putting little props to stabilize it.

Yeah, doesn't really make much sense -- it's like they'd have to go out of their way to make it not work. And why?... the Note II is apparently selling well, but there are what ~ 30 million GS3s on the market now?

You are correct, the review is norwegian and i'm swedish but we understand each other's languages and it only works for charging. I read on the swedish samsung facebook page where someone asked about the dock and they answered that it will work with the S3 after a firmware update. It seems to not be as expensive as I expected in sweden, around 45 euro, it is supposed to be available nov 20.

i read the same article, the article explained how to use your old charger cable as otg cable or manually creating an otg cable at home.
i checked and verified by opening my own otg cable and found the same circuit as the circuit shown in that image.

I had an idea of buying a female to female cable and connecting one side to USB and other with USB cable to phone. Thanks in advance.:thumbup:

dude, i guess you are taking about this article tech.firstpost.com/news-analysis/how-to-make-your-own-usb-otg-cable-for-an-android-smartphone-29503.html
i read this complete article and checked my own otg, i found it as shown in the image/article mentioned by you.
i believe if one want to short the pins, it can be done at phone's external plug end.
Please help me to start with the otg development.
i will be thankful to you
as it is a kernel's thing as per my research till now.
and i am sorry about your grand may its soul rest in peace.:crying:
It won't arrive for a little bit (1saleaday is slow to ship), so I figure I'll ask some questions in the meantime.
Does it support MHL 2.0? I've seen conflicting info, in that some places don't even mention MHL support. And if it's not 2.0, does it require that specific 11-pin Samsung adapter? Selling my HTC One and not sure if I should just include my current 5-pin adapter with it.
Does it work with the Smart Dock like the regular S4 and whatnot? Assuming it works with MHL 2.0, I don't see why it wouldn't work with the Smart Dock.
What kind of sound hardware does it have? I don't suppose its Wolfson...
Does it support exFAT for microSD? I've seen confirmation that it supports 64GB cards at least.
And any idea if it'll have a wireless charging back like for the S4? Don't know if it even supports wireless charging.
I've tried mhl 1.0 and 2.0. Both don't work. Also tried USB OTG also doesn't work.
I have a 64gb micro sd but I can't remember how it's formatted. But definitely works.

Well crap, I was banking on at least regular MHL - are you sure its not the cable you're using (as in, it requires the Samsung specific 11-pin cable)? If not, then I guess GSMarena is wrong (wouldn't be the first time).
I've tried both a cheap one from ebay and the samsung geniune one which works with my normal Galaxy S4 without using the power cable......both cable works on my normal GS4 but it doesn't work on my MIni GS4....i've also tried with or without the power cable attached and still doesn't work.

Well that really sucks. Oh well, guess I'll stick to using my Tab Plus for that for the time being.

only the samsung hdmi adapter works with the GS4 mini due to a specific protocol since it is not HML enabled. I know... it sucks, but it has other ways to connect to a TV

) not shy )
samsung smart TVs have this almost-like "wifi-direct" connection and you can mirror through wifi the phone's display. like sony has with their phones&TVs. you need to be connected to the same wifi... that's it

yeah... just got one and it was a much waited upgrade to my phone... and the size was the selling point i hate those damn 5inch-ers. why would anybody what all that power and resolution in a phone?
I would just go for an awesome camera... but that's just me.
If i run into some cool hacks, i'll come back and post them here.
Cheers!

Personally I can go for one.
Screen real estate has always been a plus for me but the remote got me on this.
