As explained in the title, my Xperia Arc either pauses or restarts every 30 seconds or so while playing games, especially high memory games like Clash of Clans, Zenonia and etc. Not particularly a tech savvy guy so I might need professional step-by-step guidance on what to do here.

No, I haven't overclocked my phone. Currently not using any custom rom but basic ICS version 4.0.4. Kernel version shows 2.6.32.9-perf on phone. By the way this problem happens only when i play games, other applications like Facebook works just fine.

Stock ICS for Xperia 2011 isn't optimized for heavy use (small amount of RAM) and got outdated Adreno drivers. Custom ROMs / AOSP / CM + custom kernel will take care of this by using various performance specific tweaks.

If most of you here don't know, ICS is not recommended for gaming. Switch to a GB or JB ROM if you want to use your phone for gaming.

I see... Actually I once used custom ROM before but games are still kinda laggy. Is it recommended that I downgrade my Android version to GB?

Thanks for the advice, I shall try it out. If problem persists, welp, it's time to buy a new phone.

Currently running the latest version of Dark Forest ROM and a slightly too old version of DoomKernel.
I notice that there is some serious performance drops with ICS. Any suggestions on getting this back up to speed? Better ROM to use?
Also, off topic, I haven't been able to find a link to a version of the Beta ROM with WiFi, data, etc enabled and NO OTHER CHANGES. A link would be helpful and I have searched.
Thanks in advance for both requests!
CM9 based roms seem to be the smoothest - AOKP is the best for me. You can try overclocking on darkforest rom and updating your kernel may help alot as well.

Thanks! Been meaning to update the kernel but I guess I'm just lazy. I'll get that done and try your other suggestions later but for now I've got a pile of coursework to do. Already overlocked to 1.4 Ghz but I guess the old kernel may be holding me back. Also is there a CM9 available for R800i that supports the gamepads?
Cheers again!
Touchpads do work in all cm9 roms but they're app specific - some apps allow them to work and some do not, it depends on how the app developer implemented them or so I've read.
So after a year of loving my Play I've finally decided to move on to a Galaxy Note (and boy do I LOVE it!). This leaves my Play as an extra device that I figured I would make into a 100% gaming device. I'm looking for a ROM+Kernel that will get me the BEST performance for playing games both emulated and Android originals. I have no preference if it's GB or ICS but I assume it will end up as GB.
If its just purely gonna be a gaming device just flash a stock ftf, then flash a custom kernel and get rid of everything except the gaming part! Maybe even use an a2sd script that will help maximise space. That's basically what most of the roms are anyway just heavily themed stock based stuff

Hey Guys,
I'm getting a used r800x (most likely with a locked bootloader) what would you say is the best route to go to get the best gaming experience (with links if possible)
Thanks a lot!
Unlock the bootloader. Get an overclocked kernel. Keep it from updating to 2.3.4
This is great ROM!

ROM
I'm using this ROM, it's for locket and unlocket bootloaders. Flash the ROM with the minimizer and you will always have free RAM memory for heavy games and emulators. Recommend with DoomKernel

Sorry for my bad english
flash 2.3.2 firmware root it and delete all useless apps(before making a reboot) now you are done you will get best gaming and battery performance without any lag(more than 290 mb free ram:good:
hi..
still on rooted stock GB R800i with locked BL... having plans on flashing CFWs...
i just wanna ask if what is the best ROM / Kernel combination..? preferably bug-free.., light and with the least compatibility issues known...
thanks..
additional question...
what ROM should i go for..? GB or ICS based...? what are the pros and cons..?
I'm currently using NXT by Krisdee. It's smooth and fast, and I haven't encountered any bugs yet. The pros of GB are that they are generally more stable, and support more games (EA stopped supporting ICS or something). I personally like using ICS. It has some nice features, like the data traffic monitor, and I prefer the overall look of ICS. But if you want gaming (though touchpads do work on ICS I think), battery life, and generally a more stable rom, go for GB.
you mean to say that all things are working on the NXT ROM..? i mean wi-fi, camera and others..? i've read some ROM reviews and users reported bug stating that their cam is not working or is unable to tether..

There is a solution to fix "cannot connect to camera" error. Go to settings > quick panel settings > widget buttons, untick LED flashlight, and done. As for tether, it works for me, maybe they did something wrong during the installation. As long as you follow the instructions, you'll have a bug free and stable rom without problems.
If you're a hardocore gamer , i'd recommend sticking to any GB rom , as you'll have a better lag-free gaming experience
for a good GB Rom i'd recommend either NXT 1.3 by Krisdee , or DiXperia 2 by Dikej
I myself prefer ICS for the extra features and better UI , and bear in mind that i don't use my phone for gaming as much as i did before so i don't know how much you'll compromise your gaming experience by using ICS
examples for good ICS Roms : Stock ICS by MarkPhyton "doesn't have any bugs AFAIK" , and the one i'm using now is ICS Pureness ported by Sechko , i prefer it for the better theming and less bloat to deal with
a good non-stock ICS rom is AOKP rom and MIUI By ComicDan , i had no issues dealing with both of them , but i just preferred Stock based Roms
NXT Rom 1.3 is the best rom available now, lucky u don't have to unlock bootloader and change kernel to have it.
Only one bug: when recharge the phone while it"s off, the phone turns itself on. Just this one

I don't think that's a bug. Every rom does that, and it gives you the advantage that you would still be able to turn on your phone if your power button broke.

Lol, you need to flash it on your pc.

You don't flash kernels via CWM, it's done via your pc, you can search the forums on how to flash a kernel

SURELY " MIUI Australia " is the #1 => made by " Dan " magical man
after that , markphyton's official rom
after that , sechko's ICS and miui
in the end trueancesor
If you really want a bug free rom why dont you stick with stock. Who can make a better rom other than the manufacturer?
Which ROM best device would be stable without problems and without fault or anything
ics / jb / gb?
And how do I install?

For that reason I have stock GB .62 rom, rooted, added launcher tweak into build.prop and moved some applications from /data/app to system/app, at the moment I have about 170 mb free space my Arc S, and it is running smooth without any problems, without anything missing or not working.
With all those wishes, I don't find any other way.

Hi,
in past two months I have tried most of the popular ROMs. First of all I would not recommend you to use custom ROMs with locked bootloader. For some reason even if a ROM is supposed to work with locked BL I would experience bootloops or other problems. After I have unlocked it the bootloops dissapered. If you decide to unlock it first thing to try is CM10 just to see how jellybean looks. It works great with no problems but the camera is 480p and I dont think that is a compromise anyone should make. But still go for it just to see what we're missing out on . Of ICS rROMS I can recommend Ultimate HD (you will need to temper with it to enable XLoud) and JJ Hybrid (for stock ICS look).
Performance wise the GB is the best for Arc S. Even though the benchmark results were the same for GB/ICS/JB when I've tested it, if you are gaming GB will give you the best performance. Also camera and sound work best. If it doesnt bother you to use the older version of android go with GB. If you unlock the BL then you can use Doomkernel for GB and OC and UV the phone for better performance and battery life. There is Setxperia app that works great with Doomkernel in GB but gives me problems with Rush kernel so I cant use it in ICS.
You can go with the stock .42, root, delete anything you don't need. And update to .62. That alone would give you the best possible performance you can get out of Arc. If you unlock the bootloader then you can overclock it to 1600 MHz and undervolt at least -50mV whitch gave me about 3 days of battery life and faster phone.
Hi guys, I'm quite a novice here and my XPlay has been stuck on GB till today. Because many new apps and games are not supported for GB, I gotta upgrade to higher OS.
Any recommendation for stability and lightweight OS?
Hope to have a complete guidance in the upgrading process because I'm not really sure how to upgrade it myself.
Current phone status: Rooted(Via flashtool), but boot loader not unlocked.
Android ver: 2.3.4
Baseband ver: 8x55A-AAABQMAZM-2030280-56
Kernel ver: 2.6.32.9-perf [email protected] #1
Build no: 4.0.2.A.0.42
Thanks in advance
All u need is to unlock bootloader.
Than u need rom as a zip and kernel. Most roms are has its kernel, which can be found in zip file or u can use lupus or turbo kernels.
So when u unlock bootloader, copy zip to sdcard, than flash kernel and when it will be booting use vol buttons to enter recovery (lupus) or boot menu (turbo) and using recovery do format system, data and cache, and flash rom

Firstly, I know there is no such thing as a "best ICS rom". But anyone could recommand an ICS rom focused on performance only ?
I don't need the ICS features, really. All I want is being able to download ICS compatible apps (Chrome, Opera, Feedly, etc...) whilst still being able to play emulator and games with good performances (touchpad and gamepad compatibility is compulsory). Thus, all I want is a minimalistic ICS rom.
Could someone please advise me ?
Thanks !
