Allcast share dongle not connecting to 10.1 2014 edition - Galaxy Note 10.1 (2014 Edition) Q&A, Help & Troubl

I am trying to use my Samsung allcast share dongle with the new tablet, it shows the dongle, it shows connected on the tablet, but before the image shows up on the screen it disconnects. When I first connected the tablet with the dongle it updated the firmware, but I still cannot get it to work, any suggestions?

Same issue.
I've tried changing the display density and size (wm density 150; wm size 1280x800) to match my 10.1 2012 to no avail. The 2012 works, as do my S4 and S3.
On default resolution and density, the 2014 connects, I get a green, vertical line on the far right of the display, and then I disconnect. At reduced density/resolution, I disconnect but get no green line. I am trying to connect to an Acer P1273 projector that has a max resolution of 1920×1200. No joy at all.
The dongle works with my 2014 on other output devices, just not this projector, so far.
If you crack the case, please let me know, too!
Good Luck!

I've no problem with my P605, but sometime I've to try to connect several times because it often fails.
When finally the connection begin everything work perfectly for all the time.
P.S.: I've never seen a 1080p connection with my dongle (even connecting with my S3 or S4). I see always 720p connections.

There is an update for the allshare cast dongle. I purchased 2 of them for my job to work with some demo tvs we got from Samsung. I was getting frequent disconnects and when I met up with our Samsung solutions architect yesterday I asked him about the disconnect problem, he pushed out an update that fixed the problem. Let me see if I can get that apk. He said it would auto update when you connect your device, but that NEVER happened to me. I'll contact him tonight and just tell him I have one at home with the same problem.

How did you change pixel density / resolution on the note 10.1 - 14 ? root needed?

Root is needed, yes.
Once rooted, open a terminal and assume root with su -. Next, use the wm commands to make the changes: wm size widthxheight; wm density density.
You may have to restart to get things to look clean again. As always, backup first.
Resetting is a matter of assuming root and entering wm size reset; wm density reset.

Mine works fine, I have the P605 though....

I'm using SM-P600 and it worked until I flashed CleanRom. Hope Triangle Away is working soon with this device.
What you could try is to long press on your Dongle's Name and choose "Connect using PIN". A pin will now be shown on your TV. Use this pin to connect your device to your Dongle. Got the same issue as you did but this worked for me.

Does Note 2 (Allshare cast) work with PTV3000 (Miracast receiver)

has anyone tried this
i nkow the GS3 worked with the Netgear PTV3000
but it seems to be a case by case thing, because the NOte 10.1 didn't
I bought the all share cast hub, but it sucks, because only the Note 2 can connect to it, and no other Miracast certified device (laptop) can
although the allshare cast is based on Miracast
So I am looking to get the PTV3000 which I know my laptop will connect to, and any miracast phone should (Nexus 4, GS3 already confirmed to work)
I hope someone who has tried the GNote 2 can weigh in
Thanks

If you look here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1847290 you can see that the Samsung Galaxy S3 is supposed to work with Netgear ptv3000. But there is also issues as seen here http://goo.gl/TkAUT
I currently own a Galaxy Note 2 (sgh-i317m LTE model) and the new Push2TV (ptv3000) and no matter what I do I cannot get it to work
My phone runs on stock 4.1.1 JB and my PTV3000 is up to date.
If I put the Push2Tv in Miracast "mode" I see it from my GN2 AllShare Cast menu and it tries to connect ... but after many seconds it fails.
If someone else got it to work I would like to know also

Full Miracast support isn't approved until Android 4.2 (according to Wiki)
Just received an email from Netgear support:
Thank you for choosing NETGEAR. My name is ... and I will be your support expert. I appreciate the opportunity to assist you.
Regarding the concern, sometime early next year Netgear will release the firmware for this device that will enable the Miracast to work with your smart phone. So at present you will not be able to use this feature from your Smart Phone.

I know 4.2 will officially support Miracast but we are talking about "AllShare Cast". The partnership has been announced between Samsung and Netgear but I see an update will be required.

Ah..I see. AllSHare cast TO a PVT3000. Wow. That's a great idea!! The second it works I will buy a Netgear PVT 3000!
Edit: Found this.
I'm running Sprint GSIII w/ 4.1 and follow these steps:
1) Hook up the PTV3000 like normal (power, HDMI)
2) When it's booted up and displays ready to connect, I push the little button on the side and get the PTV3000 into Miracast mode
3) Launch "Allshare Cast" from the GSIII, click on and let it scan. It should display some "random" Netgear PTV3000 number
4) Click "Connect"; a pop-up window should open saying "Connecting", and once done you should be connected.
.....and that's it. Whatever you do on the phone will display on your TV exactly as does in the palm of your hand. Sometimes I have to toggle the button on the side of the PTV3000 and restart the Allshare Cast app to get it to connect, but nothing else is necessary.

All that process is exactly what I do, but at step 4 it says "Connecting", for a while, then it fails
I have a Canadian Rogers Galaxy Note II with stock 4.1.1 rom (simply rooted). It looks like it should work but it doesn't. I've even tried to connect right after switching between the WiDi to Miracast mode (saw this trick elsewhere) but it's a no go.
I'll wait for Netgear update
GS3 vs. GNII - shouldn't they both work??
It's strange that GS3 works while GNII doesnt - no? Really looking for a simple solution to push out to tv. have GTV 1Gen version (revue) and can't get anything to work properly to push to tv. was oping this box could do it!

Yes strange, I thought GS3 and GN2 were very similar. I've tried may scenario like resetting my PTV3000 with the reset button, restarted my GN2, tried to connect right after switching mode, waited for a complete AllShare Cast scan... and no solutions seems to work at the moment.
If someone know how to make it work without any PTV3000 update I'm ready to try
So is there any chance of extending the display to 1080p and outputting this to the miracast adapter? Ideally running two displays: An input device application (e.g. virtual KB/ mouse) on the phone and the main Android display on the monitor/TV?
Does a similar solution exist currently?

I can confirm that the 2.2.4 firmware works with my Note 2.
PTV3000 2.2.4
Fully stock Note 2 AT&T - with the new 4.1.2 JB (multi window) update from samsung.
I had tried 2.1.4, 2.1.5, 2.2.2 and none worked.
After applying the 2.2.4 firmware the 1st couple of times connection failed. It turned off my wifi on the phone for some reason. When I turned it back on, opened Chrome browser then pulled the drop down message/task window and hit the "AllShare Cast" button, voila! It connected and is working pretty darn well considering this is beta. Lag is about 1 second, but all I want to do is watch pod casts/videos. Youtube as well as videos from channel9.msdn.com are playing perfectly (which I believe uses a silverlight/html 5 player).
I received a text in the middle of a video, so I flipped out to read it (mirrored on TV perfectly) but when I went back to chrome, the TV was stuck on the view of my message. I turned off the allcast, back on and it's running fine again."

That's a done deal for me. Buying one. You can set up PS3 Media Server to run from a PC, and use UPNPlayer to access PS3 Media Server on the Note 2, then play a video through MX Player or DicePlayer and wirelessly, sending it to the Netgear PVT3000. And that's my goal.
I will put up a video once I have this working.
It is stuff like this that still casts a shadow on android. Apple tends to work really well with apple products but android based on open source which supposedly supports more standards out of the box just asks for a bad rap when OEM's halfass hardware support. And why doesn't android still not have a GOTO product that supports mirroring and dual screen support? Android is just begging for a universal dock, much like laptops have had for awhile, but the OEM's are too greedy and limit accessories on the fact that you'll buy the next accessory that is only supported by x phone or x brand.

Apple requires an Apple TV to "Airplay" and this means obviously, totally closed source. Android is developing the open sourced Miracast into it's operating system base. That means ANY Miracast enabled device will allow for functioning wireless display. Samsung's All Share cast can already connect with a Samsung dongle OR a Samsung TV that has AllShare Cast enabled. BUT, Allshare ALSO works with a Miracast enabled receiver, like the PVT3000 which is in firmware dev right now.
PVT3000 firmware 2.2.4 works with Stock Allshare cast Samsung ROMS currently (with some noise issues).
While Android, being that it is open source doesn't have a dedicated wireless app, besides Miracast, is going to run behind Apple, once it is finished solving the bugs it will surpass Apple just like everything else in Android that has been refined does.
Take a look at the Nexus 4 Miracasting. And you don't need "Android/Google TV" to use it.
3:30 mark to see the delay from Nexus 4 to the screen (perfect for video...not for gaming)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DwvYrv2s9Kk
Now...see what NVIDIA has done using the Tegra 3 to enhance Miracast.
:35 mark for delay example.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b52zqNIeQso
What's my point? It will get there, and when it does, it will be excellent.
EDIT: LG tv's are coming with Miracast built in. Check out this video. practically zero lag.
56 second mark for example.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xPzRWw5LNL4
Edit 2:
Also..AirPlay has HUGE delays. About 3-4 seconds. While Miracast is getting down to around 60MS.
http://forum.algoriddim.com/viewtopic.php?id=1307
Manufacturers getting on board with Miracast:
http://certifications.wi-fi.org/sea...=&date_from=&date_to=&selected_certifications[]=69&x=62&y=15
and
http://certifications.wi-fi.org/sea...=&date_from=&date_to=&selected_certifications[]=67&x=37&y=8
I would say with this kind of collaboration it won't be long before Miracast comes to Apple products, unless Apple doesn't want that...then they had better expand the allowed receivers and improve their latency dramatically.
PVT3000 works on Galaxy Note 2 stock 4.1 ROM.
Ok. Received my Netgear PVT300 and here is what I have found so far. ONly testing with the 2.2.4 currently using a Galaxy Note 2 with stock ROM with power saving mode off.
1. NO noise line (garbled or digitized delays in the feed)
2. Sound and video sync fine.
3. If I am streaming Youtube, it seems that it works great, then may pause or stutter a bit. If I pick the phone up and click the power button or rotate the phone in my hand the stuttering goes away almost instantly. Like the phone has gone to sleep and moving it or pressing power brings the CPU back up to full speed. This may be important if Samsung needs to know that AllShare Cast sleeps too easily.
4. Netflix will NOT play through my wifi network when I have the AllShare cast on. Instead it grabs the cell tower for some weird reason. Also, equally as strange, Netflix plays the 16:9 (widescreen) videos in 4:3 (standard) making them look compressed...squished. Bizarre. As soon as I drop AllShare Cast the image goes widescreen and uses the wifi again.
5. Sometimes the AllShare complains that the stream is unstable and if I reconnect I might get a better signal. I am going to try placing the PVT in a better line of site place as it sits behind my HDTV right now.
6. And you aren't going to believe this one. I can connect to the PVT, then open up UPNPlayer, THEN...open a video that is being served from my PS3 Media Server off my PC, and play a 720P movie through the phone and out to the PVT. Unreal.
7. The only real hiccup is some actual frame dropping during playing. It's not bad...really barely noticeable But I can see it. If I have to guess I would say that there is a sync problem of some sort as the hiccup happens in a very evenly timed interval. Like every 23 out of 25 frames, that frame drops.
8. The delay is really minimal. I mean, you can see the delay from phone screen movement to TV, but even if you wanted to play a game...you could do it without much trouble if the game didn't require pinpoint reactivity (think Angry Birds Star Wars..lol)
Future testing plans:
I have not tried long term video playing, but I plan to and I plan to do it with the screen forced to stay on as well....just to see if the phone is deep sleeping and making the stream stutter because of it. I also plan to do all these same tests with 2.2.6 or the next beta that comes out (whichever happens first). I also want to try a customer ROM with a better kernel. I had a ROM on before and used the Perseus kernel and man....the phone was stupid fast. But I think it was killing the battery. Actually...that is another thing I wasnt to check. Making sure the battery can still charge while doing all of this. Sometimes running too many things and the GPS at the same time won't let the battery charge fast enough to beat the drain. Depends on your wall adapter really. Samsung's adapter is a 2 amp output and the phone needs it sometimes.
I could video my findings, but I doubt anyone cares that much.
HDCP
With a rooted note 2 running CleanROM ACE, I consistently get HDCP errors when attempting to connect. My girlfriend's stock note 2 works fine.
I'm not an expert, however from what I've read most roms do not include the files for HDCP authentication. I searched my device for libstagefright_hdcp.so for example, and came up with nothing.
The question arises:
Can you simply toss those files in the file system where they need to be? Will this yield the desired result?
I've also seen discussion of Cyanogen including these files with a setting to disable HDCP if a device is buggy. Can anyone confirm that?
Thanks for your time.

Allshare cast update available - ME29

Just got ME29 firmware update, and i think it takes away the lag i used to see before.
Screen mirroring from my s3 and note10.1 is much faster now!
I think they have added true HD support for mirroring now.... i am guessing in preparation for note 3 release.

Hello.
I updated my Allsharecast doungle to latest version ME29, and also got the connectivity problem.
The solution was to disconenct the Allshare Cast Doungle from my Yamaha receiver and connect it directly to my Samsung TV HDMI port. This solved the problem ( a RESET was also needed ). Hope it helps !!!!!!

Exactly the same problem, but with an S3. Worked fine rooted with the previous dongle version, connection now always disconnects after 10 seconds with ME29.
If anyone is thinking of upgrading and is rooted, I'd hold on until this is resolved - the dongle is essentially useless for me now. FFS Samsung!

Hi all,
Updated my dongle to ME29 as well and none of my devices can connect to it either. Well noted is that none of them are rooted, so root has nothing to do with the issue! Have tried with both galaxy s3 and galaxy note 8.0.
Hope Sammy fixes it really soon!
Ps. Another thing was that the update also changed my device name which didn't happen on the last update...

Hello,
Exactly the same thing with an S3 and "multiple windows" are activated by themselves.
I have stock, unrooted note 10.1 tablet and att s3 cell.
I can connect fine as mentioned in OP.
So maybe its rooted phones that have this issue.
Sent from my GT-N8013 using Tapatalk
Upgraded my galaxy s3 to 4.1.2, and can confirm that allshare dongle still works nicely.
So it may be phones with modified or custom status that are now having issues.
Sent from my GT-N8013 using Tapatalk
To further confuse the situation, it seems my rooted s3 connects fine to the ME29 dongle when it is plugged directly into my Sony TV. It doesn't work at all via my Onkyo AV receiver.
Both worked fine on the previous version, so it looks like the update makes some kinds of connections to certain devices unstable or impossible.
Other threads posted seem to clarify this, perhaps due to it not waiting long enough to negotiate the HDCP connection on some TVs and projectors.
It certainly doesn't seem related to having rooted the phone. I've just watched a full film without issue on the working TV using Allshare.
Hopefully Samsung will note and address this issue quickly.

There is no problem at all. The tablet connected to the dongle and I used it more than twenty minutes without any disconnection.
Anyone try to solve the problem by pushing the reset button in the back of the dongle? (just try)

I have the same problem with denon receiver. Is any way to fix it?
If I connect directly with LG TV it is works.
Same problem with my onkyo receiver just spent 45 minutes on the phone with Samsung support and got nowhere. GN2 Beans Build 21
Have tried contact with Samsung Support multiple times regarding this but they do not even seem to acknowledge the problem, still want me to do a factory reset of my phone... *sigh*.
As the rest, works perfectly connected directly to the TV but I can forget about the reciever. Have tried to find a way to revert firmware but seems impossible, has anyone got a clue how to go back to the previous dongle firmware?
can anyone tell me if (in the end) it is possible to have two remembered devices? e.g. two phones in the house... I've heard that in order to do this you need to reset de dongle each time you wanna connect a second phone...
any inputs?

Then the TV goes black and then says screen mirroring has ended. On nexus it goes from connecting to my Samsung TV not being on the list anymore. On my Verizon galaxy s3 screen sharing works fine.
Do I need the allshare app on the nexus for this to work correctly? If so is there a version compatible with the new nexus 7?
If I don't need allshare app is there a mod I can do to get this to work?
Thanks for any help.

Do you have a samsung phone, with allshare cast on it? if not you may want to check for a software update / firmware update for your TV as the allshare cast dongle required a update for "Screen Mirroring" to work instead of being locked down to just samsung devices with "AllshareCast", even though AllshareCast is Miracast, which is what the n7's screen mirroring is.

Yes my Verizon Galaxy S3, which works fine on the TV and does have allshare cast on it. I did a firmware update on my TV about a week ago and just tried the screen mirroring today with that result. I will try again when I get home to see if maybe the nexus just needed a reboot and to see if any new firmwares came about on my TV since the last one.

I don't know that it's applicable to tv's also, but does your s3 have the allsharecast dongle software update, that was updated July 30th installed? It does kind of have a small reference to tv's in the app description, but it's horribly translated to English , so who knows what all it applies to really lol

I have exactly the same case here - unable to use my Samsung smart tv as wireless display for my N7 flo. Any ideas?
Exact same here with Nexus 4 and new 75F6300, with all updates.
Nexus 4 works fine with LG TVs that I tried.

So it should be samsung TV incompatibility then.
I never had luck getting this to work, but I wondered if the google chromecast, or any device in its $35 price range, can be used to successfully screen mirror from the new nexus 7.

Guys, if you are running custom roms and kernels, the chances of screen mirroring is near zero.
I see reports of some custom roms and kernels for my S4 with working display mirroring but that's like a 1 in 20 chance and I never could find one that worked for me. However, stock rom and kernel (even rooted) worked for me on the S4.
I'm running 4.3 stock rooted on my N7 and miracast work fine as well.
I'm using PTV3000 as the sink device so may be different from standalone TVs.

Your so right about that I have a locked bootloader xperia z on existenz rom based on stock xperia rom and I get screen mirror errors but the developer of the rom says its fine for him but ive only experience these errors since kitkat was released for xperia z ive been on about three different custom roms based on stock for xperia z and only one of those roms had working screen mirroring @niaboc79 please fix this problem ive been asking you for months cany you promise me it will be fixed in v2.0 please dont care how long it takes
Here it is 4 years later and I still can't find a solution.
Custom marshmallow roms usually support miracast, it should work with your older TV, nougat does not as I know, that's why I bought a used chromecast2. May a Dev will take care for it in the near future for nougat.
I have a Galaxy s7 and I'm screen mirror from my fire stick and it's been working just fine I been watching movies, now when I try to screen mirror to watch more movies it keeps saying smart view connection ended. What does this means?

Are you using a custom ROM? May not be incorporated yet. It has always worked flawless on my ROM setup. If it's working on one and not the other, that's where I would start.

no one ?...
i dont think its the cable or the slimport adapter because it use the same adapter and cable with the nexus 5 and works perfectly
:/
I'm using a Nexus 7/2013 with original Slimport adapter on a Panasonic TV. It's not plug-and-play most of the time.
But rebooting the tablet will make it work. Stay on the TV's HDMI input channel while the tablet is rebooting. :good:
I think it's a problem around the handshake protocol of HDMI.
will try it, will report later
no video out at all after making a fix on the touchscreen http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2428133
nexus 5 video out (same slimport adapter) working flawlessly

[Q] screen mirroring not working, hardware problem?

Hello everyone, I just bought a Samsung smart tv with screen mirroring feature and my note 4, my wife old note tablet connects with no problems, but my note 10.1 2014 edition gives me "unable to connect because of an hardware problem" message. I am not rooted, I have the U.S wifi edition. patch did not help either.
does anybody have a solution please. going crazy. spent arm and a leg for a smart Samsung TV and can not do a simple task.
Have same problem connecting to Sony cinema system. S4 connects with screen mirrowing but note note 2014 with same Android version gives connecting error. If I find solution I will let you know.

Also having Mirroring issues
I also have a Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 (2014 Edition) that is having issues with mirroring. I have an older TV and purchased a Netgear Push2TV device PTV3000 for wireless mirroring. When I try to connect to the Netgear device the Tablet usually fails to connect and displays the "unable to connect because of a hardware problem". I have been able to get it to connect, however, if I reboot the tablet, but if you disconnect and try to reconnect it will display the same error message.
Even if you do get it to connect it will drop out like clockwork about every 3-5 minutes. I tried to stream a movie to it and locked up every 3-5 minutes all the way through over and over. The movie will just freeze and then the tablet It will display something like "lost connection to the server " and you can report or reconnect. It will reconnect and start back where it left off, but quit again in 3-5 minutes. Very frustrating for a brand new 600 dollar device.
This is most likely a software problem if you don't have any trouble with your wifi connection.
I do not have any reason to believe my WIFI has any issues. I can stream the movie to the Samsung Tablet without any problem, it's only when I try to use the mirroring that problems occur. Also, I was able to mirror using the exact same setup with an android phone I had laying around that's about 3 years old and was able to 1) connect to the Push2TV much more readily 2) stream the movie without it locking up every 3-5 minutes.
I just bought a brand new Samsung smart TV 7250 series. Exact same problem. P600, US, totally stock. Not even root.

I just got the ptv3000, updated the firmware, and can connect no problems, except for the fact that it only mirrors a corner of my screen (only 1080p out of 1600p of the tab). I just can't figure out what to do. Yet I also saw that others had got it working. Why is it difficult with this tab.

Hi There, No need to worry. Please read below the fix.
Alright, here is the Fix for this. Please spread the word if this works for you. Because it worked for me. I didn't discover this solution so I can't take credit for this. Here it goes:
1. On your Note Pro/Tab Pro find All Share Cast from Samsung and UnInstall all the updates. Then click Force Close, all of this should be done in Application Manager.
2. Restart your Note Pro/Tab Pro (Very Important)
3. Using two fingers pull down the main screen from top down to unveil the controls menu. Touch Screen Sharing while the Miracast or other screen sharing service (Wifi Direct etc) is activated on Your TV.
4. Let it auto find it and auto connect..........Viola!

So I contacted Samsung customer support regarding this problem.
The first contact, they required me to do a factory reset, so in order to go any farther, I did that.
Once that was done, and the problem still existed, even before doing any updates or anything, I contacted Samsung Support again.
This time, they told me that I would have to send it in for repair at my expense (because mine is out of warranty; which pisses me off, because it was less than 3 weeks out of warranty.) Mind you, they never could tell me what the cost would be.
So apparently, I'm just not going to be able to screen cast from my SAMSUNG tablet to my SAMSUNG TV... even though screencasting from my Moto X works perfectly fine...
I do have squaretrade, but I'm not sure I want to claim that warranty just because of some screen mirroring not working...

All Share Cast has been replaced by Samsung Link. Screen Mirror works in Chromecast app on S5 and Note 10.1 (2014) but uses the network so has some lag. Screen Mirror works with Microsoft Display Adapter on S5 without network or lag but get the hardware error on stock Note 10.1 (2014). Tried the All Share Cast Patch and that did not work either. Still looking.
