Rooting and flashing CyanogenMod: Galaxy Ace GT-S5830 - Upgrading, Modifying and Unlocking

Hello,
I have a Samsung Galaxy Ace. I want to root it and flash it with CyanogenMod (the latest working version for Galaxy Ace). I also want to make a backup of the current state of the Ace i.e. the stock ROM so that I may revert back to it in case I don't like what I get after the flashing of the new ROM.
I have never before rooted any android phones and I have no intentions of bricking my Ace. I have searched about how to go about the process but I keep reading about CWM, odin, unlocking bootloader and stuff like that which I am not at all familiar with.
So, can anybody guide me through the steps? What should be the first step?
I request somebody to guide me through the process so that if anything goes wrong, lets say I softbrick my phone, you can help me recover it. If I follow along a tutorial all on my own, I might end up with a bricked phone.
Thanks in advance for all the help

Hi, I've been able to successfully flash cwm and then a custom ROM.
moderators can delete this thread if they want.
Thanks XDA.

[Q] Installing a custom rom question

Hey guys,
I've never installed a custom rom and I was thinking of getting Cyanogen so I rooted my phone and got 6.xxxxx (forgot the number but the most recent one) CWM recovery but the recovery didn't work and it said "Long time no see". I did some research and I figured out that I need to unbrick my phone in able for CWM to function properly. Can someone just confirm and perhaps briefly explain why i need to do this. It seems hard and dangerous and if I could I would prefer to avoid doing it to get a custom rom. If I do need to do it, is the stickied unbricking guide up to date and working?
On another note, I have unlocked my phone (using Rogers on a Bell phone). Will installing a custom rom do anything to stop that from working?
Thanks!

Yes you are correct you need to use the unbricking guide here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2044645
The reason for this is LG locked the boot loader for ICS as a result it can only be installed through gingerbread. If you have Windows 7 and not xp you could get errors during the kdz install portion. If that's the case use this to install the kdz file: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2149211
Then return to hereric's guide to complete the process. Good luck.
In regards to your 2nd question it shouldn't. But to be on the safe side it can only be unlocked from a stock ROM so I would install one of the many cwm installable cwm based on v20(x) first. ie. V20c, d, e or f. Then go to any ROM.

Thanks Ok i guess I understand it now, so this whole unbricking is just downgrading your OS.
And I have windows 8 that wasn't an option Anyway i'm in the process of unbricking atm following your instructions i'm currently installing the kdz. I'll let you know how it goes but thanks a lot for the help, I really appreciate it.

[Q] NOOb, Please Help (Regarding Flashing ROM's)

Hi XDA Community
Well i just need your help. I bought a Samsung Captivate Glide phone more than a year ago and now i think its time for flashing some ROM's since ICS is getting too old for me plus it is really battery and ram hungry. My phone really needs updating and i dont want to mess it through some wrong steps or process.
As i stated i am a noob and my only experience is Rooting my device with the help of XDA threads only.
I was hoping if there are people willing to help me in suggesting and flashing a good ROM (whether 4.2, 4.3 or 4.4 if any) because i was reading all the threads related to flashing and seemed kinda lost. Please can anyone help in explaining and directing me in steps (from backup to full flashing of ROM). For now i cannot afford to buy a new phone so keeping up with my buddy i927 glide.
Please Please Please, any help will be appreciated.
Simple step will be Good enough.
Thanks in advance to the XDA community.

The first thing you will want to do is get a custom recovery like TWRP (Team Win Recovery Project) or CWMR (Clockwork Mod Recovery).
You can find TWRP here. It includes all of the information you need to get started using a custom recovery, and its a touch based recovery program.
If you'd prefer CWMR, you can find it here.
Now, you will need access to a computer (and ODIN) to install the first custom recovery you want to use.
Download the (newest) ODIN version (onto your computer) of TWRP or CWMR from their respective download sites, and place your phone into download mode by restarting it, and then holding the [UP] volume button when its rebooting.
Now, assuming you rooted your phone already, you should know how to use ODIN.
After ODIN completes, reboot your phone into recovery mode, and you should see that you are in the recovery that you wanted!
The next step is to get Nandroid Backup and make a backup of your phone.
MAKE SURE YOU HAVE ENOUGH SPACE REQUIRED TO BACKUP YOUR DEVICE, OTHERWISE YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO RESTORE YOUR PHONE!!!
Now, you should be able to download and install a ROM, and install it via recovery.
Note: You must wipe your phone! All of it! Otherwise the ROM may not work!
For TWRP, just place the Custom ROM you want to use in either the root of your sdcard or in your ext-sdcard, and select that file in TWRP. Flash the file. If the ROM comes with custom gApps (Google Apps) as well, you need to flash them after you flash the ROM.
I have to go now, and will edit this later.
This is why I made my guide check it out in my signature!

Help with upgrading i9100 stock to Lolipop

Hello guys, i am new to installing custom roms.
This will be my first install.
I have i9100 international version and want to upgrade it from stock 4.1.2 to lolipop mainly because my phone is old and lagging like hell.
Before i posted i have searched the forum and google and found some info but its still kinda confusing to me.
I was thinking to upgrade to CM12. CM13 i think will be too much for this old phone!
A lot of guides say that i must have installed a custom recovery. I dont have any...
trying to search how to do the above, i find that in order to do that i need to root my phone! This is where i get lost. Some say i need root, some say i dont!
Some guides say to use odin, some others to use bootloader or something....
Can someone that has done this give me some pointers or some step by step guide to read on how to do this?
Also, is it possible after installing the ROM to get my apps and my settings back? logs, sms, contacts, etc etc etc?
thanks for reading guys..

What are the right steps into installing a custom rom?

Hi guys, first of all I really appreciate the work you guys do for the community.
Anyway, after being an iPhone user for a few years I finally switched back to android and I want to install a custom rom for my OnePlus 3
Im a total noob to this, but I know what should be done, but I can't seem to understand the order jn which these steps should be taken. Sorry if theres already a thread.
Should I root my phone first?
Can I backup apps and all the settings so I can restore them after installing the custom rom? Titanium bavjup needs phone to be already rooted, so how does that work?
Thank you very much.
Why do you want to flash a custom rom? If u havent unlocked your bootloader yet ur ****ed since unlocking it wipes your device. Without root making a good backup is hard. Anyways this guide will help you. http://lmgtfy.com/?q=Oneplus+3+bootloader
Instructions on how to flash a custom ROM are more or less always stated in the first post of the thread...just take a look there.
Btw, there's also a nice thread here on XDA explaining most of the things you need to know http://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-3/how-to/oneplus-3-how-to-unlock-bootloader-t3398733.
