I need to send my phone back to AT&T, will a factory reset through the method of holding the volume up and power button undo the root and bootloader being unlocked?
Easy way to find out. Do it and use a program like Root Checker to see if you still have root. If you do, you will need to use LGFlashtools and flash the AT&T original tot.

="3"] My phone's model number is SGH-T999V, and Baseband version is T999VVLLH2. I tried to flash clockmod into my phone by Odin many times. The Odin shows the .tar was successful, but when go to the recovery mode, it's still the initial one. Does someone can help figure it out? Can you list the steps to root t999v in details? Thanks a lot!nks a lot![/SIZE]

I think those are for the original build LE6 though.
Use odin to get your recovery installed but uncheck auto reboot.
When done unplug and hold power untill the screen turns off. Immediately let go of power and then press and hold Power + Volume up + Home. (Be quick)
When you see blue text flash on top of screen release power but keep holding other two until you get into recovery. (You may not have to keep holding home and vol, but its always wirked for me)
Now flash your SuperSU/Superuser and reboot.
Once booted delete/rename these files:
/system/recovery-from-boot.p
/system/etc/install-recovery.sh
This will stop stock recovery from being rewritten.
Now using goo or rom manager reinstall recovery again if you so choose.
Hope that helps.

If you want to be completely stock without losing data....
First odin flash cf auto root for stock recovery
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1980644
Then download supersu again
https://play.google.com/store/apps/...ce=google&utm_medium=organic&utm_term=supersu
Then download triangle away
https://play.google.com/store/apps/...SwyLDEsImV1LmNoYWluZmlyZS50cmlhbmdsZWF3YXkiXQ..
Run triangle away as root
Then go to super su and full unroot
0 flash counter
Stock recovery
Unrooted
Profit.
If your device Status is Modified.... Factory Reset will make it Official.Soooo Unless you need to return your phone, leave it alone.
Always make a stock rooted backup whenever you root and you can revert back to stock in minutes without factory reset
This took me 2 hours to figure without losing apps or data. So hit the thanks if it helped

if you use TA under root, doesn't it force an auto reboot? How do you get the SU to do full unroot then?
Yes, once you do TA it reboots in a recovery and warns you tge resets counter. Does not factory reset just restarts and clears counter.
Under supersu if you scroll down to the bottom of options ut wilk say full unroot.
Id show a screenshot but I unrooted already. If you see it can you post a screenshot.

easiest way. once you run the TA app, it'll reboot, once you press 'vol up' to clear and when it's done (screen goes blank), pull the battery, go to DOWNLOAD mode, it'll be 0.
Does this also work on the Rogers version? It is the SGH-I317M.
Yes

Make sure all rooted apps are uninstalled then go to settings. If it says modified like mine then there is still a rooted app installed. Your picture is correct, shows everything stock.

Well that picture is stock out-of-the-box. I just want to make sure i can obtain that back whenever it is needed.
Post your device status as well mine said modified. Yours should be normal. Good info thanks.
And yes those steps are what you will follow to put back in factory settings. The device status must also be unmodified. In my pic its modified.

I thought the main reason to root was to install a different kernel?
I can root to flash to flash roms on top of stock kernal

One quick question. ..
Okay so if I DID make a stock rooted nandroid backup before I flashed custom rom and kernal and I wanted to just completely unroot and go back to stock everything, then all I would have to do is just flash back to the nandroid I made, then run triangle away, delete any root apps, then click unroot in SuperUser and I should be good to go if I have to take the phone in for warranty? And will it be in that exact order? Or should I just run triangle away then factory reset and flash official stock rom? Is that basically the same? Any help would be really appreciated! Thanks

I'm finding it difficult to simply find a tutorial to relock the bootloader for my sgh-i317. I've failed several times to update to 4.3 but read since my phone is rooted I need to relock/flash to stock and try again. I understand I can use Odin which I did to root but I'm new to this and don't know where to find the appropriate file so I can attempt to update via OTA. Any help is appreciated...

This will erase EVERYTHING on your phone so use kies to back up messages, pics, etc BEFORE you begin!!
Go to sammobile and dl the stock firmware then dl this.
Have $3 on your google play account for triangleaway.
Then follow these steps
1.flash the stock firmware with odin
2. flash chainfire autoroot and update supersu in the play store
3. purchase and install triangle away (pay for it and support these awesome developers, dont be that guy), run counter reset and reboot
4. in supersu unroot
5.boot into stock recovery and factory reset and wipe cache and delvik cache and reboot.
6. on you phone go to settings>about phone> software update and run the ota update.
That should do it as you have gone completely back to stock, reset your counter and have stock recovery. This is what i had to do to get the ota to 4.3 yesterday/
U can always grab the firmware from sammobile.com type ur model number and download it and use odin to flash

Okay so i bought a samsung Galaxy note 2 on craigslist(not a good idea) and what the seller told me is that it was unlocked. well i got the phone and put my Tmobile sim card and it worked. i tried to do a system update which i kept getting a reminder for and my phone is now stuck on the opening samsung galaxy note 2 sign. well i took it to the cell phone repair places we have around here and none of them could fix it. apparently the guy rooted the phone to unlock it but the phone doesnt have a custom recovery. it can boot to download mode but thats about it. if anyone knows how to fix this i would greatly appreciate your help.
Not bricked. ..
Boot to recovery using the 3 button combination and factory reset the phone. ..then reboot. .
If the device sticks on the splash screen again. ..you'll need to push a new image via Odin. .
But the phone is far from bricked. ..it's just mad...g

Is the phone stolen? Might have been SIM locked.
I would try flashing a stock ROM onto it via Odin. If that fails you probably bought a HOT phone. Or it has hardware damage.

It was unlocked when I got it... it had a custom rom on it and when I tried to do the update it made the phone do what's it doing now.. so what option am I left with? I already tried stock rom and nothing :/

So you have flashed a custom recovery? I can see that you said it did not have a custom recovery on it (but had a custom ROM?). If you haven't flashed the recovery and have not followed the flash to stock instructions (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2275844), then do so (be as specific as possible on the steps you've taken since it seems you might be a beginner at this by trying to update OTA a rooted device).
happened to me too. pull the battery. hold vol up and power and home and then insert battery. Keep holding till the 2nd time it reboots and you see the logo then let go of the buttons. This should put you into recovery. Wipe cache and wipe phone then reboot.
This worked for me, hope it works for you.
Trying to get into recovery mode doesn't work... I am a begginer at this. I tried pulling the battery out and doing the up home and power combo but that does not work.
