Hi,
I disassamble my HTC One X to clean the microphone hole. Put it back together and then noticed some static noise coming form the earpiece. So I took it apart again. I tried to figure out what was wrong with the earpiece... No clue. So I applied a bit of pressure to the earpiece. I turned the phone back on while still without the backcover and earpiece now seemed fine. Before reassembling it I decided it would be better to turn it off. Which is quite hard without the button. And this is where something must have gone wrong. I pressed down quiet hard on power button and now the screen won't go one again. I never really manage to turn it off.
The power button still seems to be working. If I push it for five seconds the home button and the other two will flash. But apart from that nothing much happens. Plugin the phone in makes the led glow red.
Does anyone have an idea what could be the problem here? Any ideas are welcome!
Thx,
TiredHornet
Keep it plugged in for a while and retry. I'm not saying that your battery is drained, but it maybe acts like it somehow (happened to me a few times).
Good luck.

Hey, i've had my desire for a month or so and never had any problems until today.
I turned on my phone to see that it had safe mode written on the bottom left hand corner, pretty much i ignored it and put it back in my pocket thinking it was nothing.
Anyways, later on i took it out and saw nothing was working, so i turned it off and on again. The phone turned on, the sound played - but the screen didn't and just stayed blank.
So my phone is on and can receive messages (with the notification light) but the screen doesnt work at all and remains blank, no matter how many times i turn it on or off...
Can anyone help me? Thanks
(I havent dropped my phone recently or spilled water on it - if that helps at all)
Hey again, i dont mean to bump this... but i really need a fix/suggestion on this desperately XD
Anything will help at this point >.<
Hey dude, sorry to hear about your troubles but give this a try ...
Power off the phone by removing the battery and try turning on again... if not try pulling the batt, sim and sd card and leave overnight.
Could also try getting to the fastboot menu by holding the volume down button whilst pressing the power button... this would see if the screen works outside the operating system...
Hope you get it working again.. let us know matey - good luck!

I was snowboarding this weekend, and when I took a break I realized my power button broke (it wouldn't lock the screen). When I took the phone out of my pocket, it was all wet, but still worked perfectly fine.
However, it wasn't completely broken. If I pulled the battery, the phone would automatically turn on.
Any ideas?
Phone: Desire Z
ROM: RCMix3d v4 Runny
edit: phone automatically turns on if i put the battery in. acts as if the power button is permanently pressed down?
Factory reset, if that doesnt work then try reflashing rom, if that dont work i would say your power switch is broken. Good luck!

Will a factory reset affect my phone being unlocked or rooted?
No it wont, it delets all installed apps and you have to resync your google account... Maybe its a better idea to reflash the rom using superwipe inbetween but if its a hardware problem it wont help at all
have a look (thats what some other xda user did to clean his phone):

okay, a friend of mine had dz out in the woods while he was hunting and it was raining and got wet. Power button was not working, according to him. He was going to get it repaired, but before that, i had to copy his contacts to old nokia communicator, well, i noticed the power button was actually working on his DZ.
I would say the button got wet, water is short circuiting it so its like its fully pressed all the time, so try dry it/wait, and it could work soon.

thanks, this is kind of what i think is happening
I literally have never had a problem like this with this phone, but just recently I flashed the new AOKP jb 8-29 build and after a day or two of using it I started getting random reboots where the phone would crash and then start vibrating in intervals. I couldn't get it to stop unless I pulled the battery. Thinking this was just a bug with the rom, I just rebooted to recovery and wiped and flashed the latest jedi mind trick v7. I let the phone sit for a little bit after first boot, but when I then tried to go through the setup I got the exact same problem. Now the phone crashes like this every time I boot up and even while I'm in recovery mode! Someone please help if you know what might be causing this.
EDIT: Now it's doing this every time I put the battery back in; I can't turn on the phone or go into recovery while it's vibrating like this
Sound like a faulty power button. I've seen many, many threads like yours. Almost certain that's the case. Mobiletech offers a power button service. Check them out

I think you're right because before every time I put in the battery the phone would turn on, but I tapped the power button a few times to loosen it up and put the battery in and it didn't turn on. Is there any way to remote start without having to touch the power button that you know of? Thanks for the advice btw
This same scenario happened to me just yesterday morning. I researched it and this issue does seem to be popping up more frequently among Samsung phones. Maybe power button design is faulty and they're starting to wear out now after a year plus of use? I sent mine off to MobileTechVideos today to be fixed. I feel so lost without my phone!

What I've read is no. Its not the button its self, but the circuits behind the button that mess up. Unless you are really skilled at soldering and can re wire the board, I don't see that happening.

Hi,
So I've had my Xperia Play (R800i) for almost a year now. It was working perfectly fine like any other day, then i didn't charge it one night. So now, it doesn't turn on at all. I hold down the power button, it vibrates, like it always does to tell me its turning on.. But nothing! Nothing comes up, the screen just stays blank like its turned off. My first thought is to take out the battery and put it back in but nothing. I try countless times, but still the end result, was a blank phone. When i put it on charge (before i hold the power button), nothing happens, then after a few seconds the LED charging light turns on, it was orange or red, i cant remember, so i left it like that. Came back a few hours later, the light was green, but still nothing happens when i try turn it on, except that little pitiful vibrate i get every time. I did leave my phone off by itself for a bit and still the same result. Yes my phone was rooted but i did this way back before this happened. So please help me, i beg of you.

I had this problem, and if you flash a JB kernel, you will see that the screen will show up, so the problem is that ALS chip doesn't work anymore, so you have to replace it, in ebay there are a ton of them. I thought it was a water damage in my case and i broke it, so won't boot up anymore.

This might be off topic but i LOL'd a bit there. I know he is just trying to help and I also get your point but it made me giggle when i read your post like "wtf bro why do you always have the same answer in every black screen thread." I don't know, maybe I'm just nuts. LOL!
Anyway, back to topic, We have the same situation. Black screen and just vibrates when you switch it on. It's been 4 days since my phone died on me. I really missed my Xperia Play now. But as fma965 said on the other Q&A thread, it might be the flex cable. Good luck and I hope you can fix your phone. Not unlike me, my only option is to buy a new one.

Hello,
I was looking through the XDA, but haven't found anything similar, so I hope somebody could have an idea what could it be.
First of all, phone is HTC One X-32GB International version.
Few days ago, I noticed that after some idle time, my HOX touch screen becomes unresponsive. At first, I didn't pay too much attention, because everything was fine after restar by power button, but problem continued to repeat.I thought it could be because of the heavy use, so I started to disable app by app but nothing changed.I restarted it several times after that and noticed that if I try side buttons, they show volume is going up and down when I press them. Also a big screen clock is normally working, so my next guess was that maybe a factory reset would solve the problem, but it didn't.
So what i shappenintg?
When I surf the net,or dialling numbers,or whatever else, everything works fine to the moment I stop touching it and leave it idle for a while. After few minutes, screen is unresponsive, doesn't matter if I put screenlock on or of.I can't even answer the call when it rings.Everything looks just as it should look, but is unresponsive.Except side buttons. Then again I have to restart it with long press power button. If I don't touch the screen after phone restarts, after minute or two it goes to unresponsive state again.
I hope somebody has idea what could or what should I do.
Thanks in advance
*update
Sometimes helps if I press power button...
*update 2
Now it's not helping any more if I press power button, seems that power button is not reacting at all sometimes, only if I hold him long enough to restart it.
In fact, now even restart is not helping.
I'm sorry, what ROM do you have? And do you have sweep2wake function on? 'cause I also have had problems with touch, when s2w was on, but I am not sure, what was the ROM that time...

It's a stock ROM-And sweep2wake is not on.
Have no idea what else to try.I tried to unlock bootloader, put CWM in because you can control it with buttons, made a backup of everything to USB, format everything, put everything back, but problem is still here. Now I also noticed that it has a delay when push power button for example when I press it screen goes off immidiately, but when I press it again, sometimes it takes 20 seconds just to turn screen on again. And of course, it still not reacting.
Now my last hope is that a ROM became corrupted somehow,so I will try to delete everything, and put some other ROM in.
Since, I am a noob, there will be a lot reading for me .
Everything wiped, unboxed ROM on, and a problem still persists.
Newest discovery:if I twist upper right corner a little bit, everything works fine.

Open up your phone and check the connector for the digitizer is properly connected, even remove it and blow into the connector to make sure there's no dust causing problems.
You can test the screen response before putting the back cover on again, its pretty easy and there are videos on YouTube showing how to remove the back, good luck.

I found some time to open it yesterday evening, and connectors are as they should be.I also tried to remove them, and blow them out, but no use.
Thank you anyway.
I think I will sell it like this for parts.
