My phone was running laggy and I decided to wipe data and cache to see if it would get better and also to free some space in my phone. When I wiped and my phone reeboted I went to Settings and then Storage... turns out that I only have 5GB free, what I don't uderstand is that the storage graphic shows that I have plenty free space. Wasn't the phone supposed to have more free space? Any advice to free more storage?
did you wipe data in CWM/TWRP or stock recovery?

So I've been doing the whole ICS thing. And it's been fun. But I'm looking to go back to stability for now.
Also I purchased this phone second hand and it's always had remnants of the old owners files floating around on it.
So my question is. What is the best way to wipe the phone to a clean slate (obviously leaving my SD card in tact)?
Secondly, is there anything I have to do if I go from ICS to TDJ's 2.6?
Thanks for the help.

That doesn't do it. I've dark side wiped over 100 times.
Then I flash and still have old pictures and old program folders. That is not what I'm asking for.

So assuming it's the internal SD, what is the best route to clean that?
I'm basically looking for a total clean wipe.

If you want a total wipe best way is to do this in recovery.
Go to mounts and storage
Format/data
Format /system
Format /cache
Format /emmc
DO NOT FORMAT SD CARD
Then flash the darkside super wipe followed by flashing the rom of your choice. Just remember to back up anything you don't want to lose from your internal memory and to have the superwipe file and rom you want to flash on your SD card.

I suggest u first connect ur phone to computer and mount USB storage. Copy off all files that u may need from both internal and external, then right click and format both as fat32. Then reboot into cwm and dark side wipe, and flash whichever rom u like.

So what does formatting both as fat32 do exactly? Or do you just mean that's the current format it is?

Yep just do that and the phone will be all clean. I always do it that way when I'm jumping from different roms and when I just get an itch to wipe the phone clean but I always backup my titanium bu folder to either my desktop or SD card so I can transfer it back when I'm done and restore my apps

Yeah I'm still trying to figure out what apps I really care to do that with. I wish the play store had a separate area for purchased apps and apps you've installed. It's annoying that I have to scroll through 50 billion apps sometimes.

Have you made any backups? backups by default are stored internally and each one takes around 3gb... check your cwm folder on your internal storage with a file manager... honestly Ive never had to do anything extreme to free up space.. all ive done is browse the internal and find what exactly is taking up space.
Debloat and remove any system apps you dont use or wont need. and while minimal you can also delete ringtones, alarms and notifications youll never use.
you can also use foldermount to move game and app data n such to the external sd card.
as far as the bootanimation its easy enough to replace by moving the bootanimation zips over manually with a file manager, set permissions, and reboot. no flashing necessary.
ty 4 your response

ty 4 the response but i have tried all this, removing most of bloat and apps and searched extensively for evey thing i can remove and it still shows that my internal storage is full with only 147mb left out of 9.62 gb, is it safe tho to do a factory reset? if it is should i do it through cwm or through stock? i just want my internal storage back at any cost. ty again any more help would be much appreciated

The CWM backup folder is pretty well hidden unless you know where to look for it... system root-> /data/media/clockworkmod. That is more than likely what's eating your space; in fact, I would be almost positive that is where your space has gone. Either way, factory resets are safe, just realize that you lose ALL your apps + data. Anything saved on your EXTERNAL sd card are safe and won't be deleted though.

btw is that what he means when he says "format emmc and wipe it clean"??

You just need clockwork. You'll see the choices in the menus.
It is not what he meant by telling you to erase your emmc. He was teasing you cause doing a wipe is pretty basic.

Also would i need a kernel to flash the Death Star Rom?
i tried flashing the Wicked Rom but it stuck on the samsung s4 logo so i replace it at t-mobile with another which i have now

Please do know
Interanal SD = /data/Media
Data Partition wipe in Recovery = /data/data being wiped.
So what you have on internal SD will be safe as all recoveries don't include /data/media when wiping. They have additional option to wipe internal sd. You don't need that.

Stock recovery wipes internal sdcard because it formats /data. It's by design as a true factory reset should reset the phone to a clean, out of box state. Now, why they didn't make it an option, I don't know!

The only time factory reset will wipe internal memory is if you are on stock recovery.
Good move on the backup. Should be doing that anyhow.
