Sprint GS3 on CM10.1.3 random reboot fix. $100 bounty - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S III

I've been having this issue ever since CM10.1 nightly 0308. Phone reboots randomly and enters a boot loop until it calms down and boots normal. I never had this problem on any build of CM earlier than 030813 when they moved to 3.4 kernels for the Sprint GS3. I've tried everything, posted on numerous forums, even brought the issue to Cyanogenmod's (Steve Kondik's) attention on G+, but all I get from everyone is upgrade to MD4 radio. I have been on MD4 radio and firmware from the first day it was leaked. So if anyone can help fix this I have a $100 bounty on it. Payable via money order to international winner(s) - no Paypal here, and in local currency on the off-chance that a local dev can help fix it. I have uploaded a video on youtube of the phone in a reboot loop. Video is not top quality, it was taken with an iPhone 4S in a moving vehicle but you can see clearly what is going on.
Here is the link to the video on youtube:
http://youtu.be/kposye98XJI
NB. The phone is flashed to Visafone CDMA network in Nigeria. Voice, SMS and 3g data work flawlessly.

Bounties are not something we like much on XDA.
Try doing a clean flash wipe cache, wipe dalvik and do factory reset. If you don't do a factory reset your laying the new rom on existing rom data.
Also questions go in the Q&A section not in the General section.

I've wiped data, wiped cache, formatted sdcard, formatted system, copied my stuff from external sdcard to laptop, formatted external sdcard, done everything humanly possible to get a trouble-free flash. All goes well during flash, no issues. But phone has never gone 24hrs without a reboot loop. On stock TouchWiz all is well, but I don't like TW. Downgraded to CM10.0 and NO REBOOT LOOPS because kernel is 3.0, same as MD4 TW kernel, so this problem never arises. Traced back a bit to CM10.1 nightly of March 17 or 18 and all is still ok because that was the last nightly with 3.0 kernel. Anything after that and the issue comes up again. My baseband is MD4, same as firmware, flashed with the AIO from freeza. To top it all, this is not peculiar to my phone: ALL Sprint Galaxy S3 phones I have flashed for friends all experience this so I just take them back to stock TW. It's frustrating to say the least. Any help?

Your repeating what you said already. In none of what you said have ever said you have done FACTORY RESET...
Then stay with what works

Done that at least 15 times. I've been trying to tackle this issue for months now, still no headway. When I was asking around for solutions some people thought I was a phone hypochondriac. That's the reason I posted the video on youtube.

Stick with what works...
Have a great day!

This thread is not within bounty guidelines. For now I am going to shutdown this "bounty" as it does not have a concise goal that pays out at the completion of the goal as it should be stated on the OP. Arguing points with links to real bounty threads is not what we are here for.
Bounties are strictly pledges. If you want to donate to the developer, donate.
With that said this thread is closed.

[Q] I need some help!

This past week, I have tried both Myu Warm Treats for Android and Baked Snack roms. I have been using CyanogenMod ever since I rooted my phone, and I love it. I just wanted to try out a couple of other roms I kept hearing about. Anyways, everytime I flash a new rom, I keep getting these error messages saying that the "process-android-media" or something has encountered an error. I keep getting that and another error like it saying that the mms process has unexpectedly closed. This has happened on both of the roms I've tried and nothing I have tried will fix it. When I flash recovery back to Cyanogen, it's perfectly fine. What should I do?
The most likely problem is forgetting to wipe everything in recovery before flashing a new rom. Wipe userdata and cache and Dalvik cache. Then everything should work fine.
btw, it's really best if you put questions in the Q&A section. I fear a flame war will emerge from this thread.
How are you trying to flash the ROM? It should be done with Amon RA or Clockwork (or ROM Manager if you're using Clockwork), so no processes should be ending while you're flashing.
Also, this belongs in Q&A Forum, not Development.
Yeah, I just thought the ROM Manager would take care of wiping all the data and what-not. And sorry for not following whatever "protocols" you guys have for these types of things. It's maddening when you can't figure out a problem like this on your own. I just wanted to find some help as quickly as possible.

[Q] Problems with flashing roms

So I have had my phone since October. I've gone through at least 20 roms from then till now. I was using the MOAR rom and it was sketchy at times in a sense of the launcher shutting down for no reason. data connectivity wasn't always the greatest even though its suppose to be good. I decided to go back to using the darthstalkers rom. did a full wipe. formated the system like it said to do if i was still using clock work. then flashed it like i normally do. then i have the recovery tell me that it could not load up the rom and aborted the installation. thought it was a glitch. so i tried to redo the moar rom. same thing. then i downloaded 3 more roms and uploaded them to my sd card. tried all of them. still the same end result. i bricked my phone in the process and went back to stock and rerooted. even after i rerooted, i still have the same problem. any ideas?

You didn't brick your phone first of all. What are you downloading the ROMs on and how are you transferring them. After you wipe data you wipe the cache and dalvick too, right? You didn't mention that part in your statement. You might want to try Twrp recovery if you haven't. Also it could be your sd card if that's where you are putting the ROMs and they constantly are failing. Also I have been running MOAR with none of the issues you described. As far as signal that would probably be Sprint or your modem or prl etc. Not the ROM.

kenny - sorry about that. thanks for moving it for me.
giantjay - my bad. semi bricked. i could not get it to load the original moar rom.
I did a full wipe. system, data, cache, and dalvick.
I have been having alot of problems flashing twrp on my phone. its been like that since i have had my phone. it was alot easier when i had my evo.
I download roms directly to my phone. the files i have are on the internal card. not to sure why it will be failing from there in the 1st place.

[Q] What causes "Unfortunately, HtcDm has stopped" message?

This is on Verizon HTC one, dev unlocked, rooted and NOS 1.0.2 This message has been popping up lately, and more frequently. May I know what is the cause behind this? Any solution/fix?
TIA.

If you are using a custom ROM, I'd ask over in the respective thread. Mine is still stock (didn't get a chance to unlock day 1) and I have not seen this message.
EDIT: Or, perhaps try a full wipe - system/cache/dalvik/factory reset, etc...

Thank you for your informative response. I tried reboot, clear cache, factory reset, the message still pops up and am unable to determine the pattern. Tried to remove the SIM card and stay on wifi for a day. It appears at random times.
P.S. Being a new member to this forum, I don't have a privilege to post it in the development thread, so I thought this would be the most appropriate place. If I am the only one who is getting his message, then I must have done something wrong. Although, I have been using android since OG droid, apart from rooting, I never really got into customization. And when I saw this phone, it screamed to give it a little personal touch Anyway I will keep an eye on this post. And big thanks to all the developers and users here, I have started to learn a lot from these discussions.

just do some random posts like welcome to the forums, and good for you!
to get the post count up, it's a joke and shouldn't even be needed.
Ask these questions in the respective ROM thread..

Don't worry about posting in a developer thread, just post in the respective ROM thread. Also, I'm not sure what process you went through, but if you are having problems, it's usually a good idea to clear everything and start fresh with a new ROM, so be sure to clear all of these: data, cache, dalvik, system, and possibly even perform another data wipe after you install the custom ROM

Thank you for your response. Yes, as per your suggestion (and lessons learned from using OG Droid and Razr Maxx), after system backup, I religiously do clear cache, Dalvik, factory reset and then install/play with system settings (new ROMs in this case). One of the things I did is: when I listed the /system/app/ folder, I saw few .odex files without respective .apk files. So I mounted /system while in recovery and removed those stray .odexes. I thought I might have deleted some files that I should not. So I wiped everything and reinstalled the ROM. however, the issue is still there. Anyway, I will keep looking for the bug.

Haha, you are awesome when I saw "You, new guy, you are not allowed to...." message this was the first thing that came in my mind. On a second thought, I realized, this must be the same reason (posting random/irrelevant) posts is why these restrictions exist. Also, you guys are doing amazing job of helping users like me to not only understand and learn about hardware and software issues, but resolving all the amateur mistakes that we make. So I am trying to keep the posts as relevant as possible.
As per the error message, it looks like some HTC app is trying to download data and unable to retrieve proper information. If I can figure out which app is throwing this message, it might help to find what information/app is trying to get access to and then resolve that problem.
BTW, thanks for BoneStock ROM. Am super excited to see that ROM getting Aroma-tized.

[Q] Various problems with phone. Completely restore phone?

As of recent, I've been having a ton of stability problems on my S2 across all ROMs. It will often get sluggish and randomly shut down, the WiFi will completely drop and I won't be able to connect unless I restart my entire phone, and various other problems. I've done a full wipe when installing any ROM and problems only came up when I installed cwm 6.0.4.3 and I was wondering if that may have been the issue. Either way, I was wondering if there was a way to completely wipe my phone and bring it all the way back to factory and how it came in the box so I can completely start over to try to fix these problems. Any other suggests would be greatly appreciated, too.
Currently running BeanStalk 4.4+, last "stable" build was with Cyanogenmod 10.1 nightly.
Thank you to everyone in the XDA Developer community, you certainly are amazing and thank you to the developers of the search function, I may not know how to use it to it's greatest potential but it's certainly helped me a TON. This is the first time I've felt I've actually need to make a post for something going wrong, sorry if the problem has happened in the past and I missed a post.
Dude i had a similar problem a while back switching from TWRP to CWM. Somehow I corrupted my Dalvik partition. I couldn't even get back to recovery.
So I went here. Followed the instructions and completely went back to stock.
Quick Note that I don't see mentioned enough, YOU WILL LOSE YOUR APPS AND SETTINGS, (hopefully thy're all backed up with Titanium), BUT YOU WILL NOT LOSE YOUR STUFF ON YOUR INTERNAL OR EXTERNAL SD CARDS. The first time I went back to Stock I was scared s***less because I thought I was losing all my pics.
When I booted up the first time, I got the "repairing" Android Icon, it rebooted and I was back in business.
Then I had previously grabbed the TWRP odin flashable 2.5.0.0. tar file from over here. I got 2.5.0.0 because I planned to flash a 4.2.2 ROM after all is said and done. I flashed that with Odin from Download Mode.
I didn't even bother logging into Google on the stock 4.1.2 ( I just can't go back TouchWiz after Cyanogenmod). I just rebooted right into TWRP 2.5.0.0 manually with Volume up and Power button.
From there I factory wiped everything, then superwiped and cachewiped ( both can be found http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2235141), just to be on the paranoid side.
And finally I flashed Cl3Kener's latest 4.2.2 version of his BlackLiquid and his latest 4.2.2 stable Uber Kernel. I personally think this is the most stable, and as close to perfect ROM thats going to come out for this phone. Of course that is just my opinion after my own experiences with 4.3, 4.3.1, and 4.4.
This is a completely streamlined version of the complete cluster f** I did researching, trial and error, and starting over, while I was in the middle of actually doing it. One last tip I can give, is to get all the files you think you might possibly need and put then on your external SD if you got it, or internal SD. Its a real pain stopping and starting cause your missing a zip you forgot.
Hope this helps
Huge thanks to the Developers threads I Linked to.

[Q] HELP! Galaxy S3 freezing and erasing stuff!

My Samsung Galaxy SIII from Sprint just freezes from time to time and I have to hold down the power button for 10 seconds to manually shut it down and boot it back up, sometimes whenever it boots up it has deleted all of my contacts and text messages. The phone also just reboots randomly, and during some of the times I turn the phone back on it says some applications have crashed, usually it was always Skype so I uninstalled it and it still crashes.
Can anyone help? I've tried unrooting, restoring, factory reset, flashing different roms, nothing changes!

I just said I have rooted and unrooted and the only way(that I know of) to do that is with Odin, anyway, yes, I've completely restored(as mentioned in original post) and I've used many different ROMS, like MOAR, Cyanogen, MIUI and a few others with the same results, I've used both CM and TWRP recoveries.
I know this is silly but sometimes it is as simple as going into recovery and wiping cache and dalvik.

Well OK then @icytux. I apologize for trying to help. I come across many people who fail to do all of these things and 99% of the time it is "USER ERROR" I'm sure you wiped as you were flashing the roms what I was referring to is after the rom loads and your problems start. That's when you should go into recovery and wipe data and dalvik and maybe fix permissions. Also some people tend to think the are performing a full wipe and they are actually not. I use twrp and go to advanced wipe and select data, system, cache, and dalvik. I also do a recommended triple wipe and don't restore all of my apps with data through Tibu. People do this with system apps not knowing what they are doing and that is some things that cause some people's issues. I have no idea of your level of knowledge but what I do know is you seem to be rude to the people who are trying to help you out. I'm sure next time you have an issue and start a thread, myself and @Jessooca will probably not be trying to help you out since you basically just spit in Our face. HAVE A NICE DAY

Look, I'm sorry for sounding like an ass and insulting you if I did, I really didn't mean to come by that way but I did know to format , Data, System, Cache, Dalvik Cache three times or more before installing a new ROM or before flashing with ODIN, I've used different USB cables, re-downloaded files, ports and even different computers, the one thing I did not know from everything everyone here has said was fixing permissions, I'll try that, thanks.
PS.
The one thing I won't do is crack open my S3 as I don't know if that will negate the ability to trade the phone in to Sprint for a new one when the contract expires.

Mr. Icy, it does appear that you have taken the right steps to alleviate your issues... May I suggest reformatting your internal (phone) memory and either reformat your sd card, get a new one or take it out all together?? I know this sounds strange but it appears as if your memory isn't formatted correctly, possible has a virus, or may just be bad... If its bad and you have exhuasted all your resources here I would let sprint know and get a replacement... I had a bad S3 once (it was the port though)... Let us know and good luck! I really hope you get it fixed I know it can be VERY fustrating!

It's OK I understand your frustration. I am a mechanic /electrician and work on half a million to 1 million dollar equipment everyday and when there is a problem I start off with the simple stuff and just keep eliminating things until I find the problem. That's all I was trying to do with my advice to you. Now since we know you went through all that simple stuff I would do like Vectus said and wipe your internal as well. Save the important stuff obviously so you can transfer it back to phone from your computer. I would also backup your sd card and reformat it. Then download the rom you want and make sure you have the matching firmware /modem /kernel ect .... That you will need. That would be my next step if I was you and if it all works good put the Stuff that you want /need back a few at a time so if it happens again it will be easier to pin point if you have a corrupted file somewhere. Keep us updated as we will try our best to continue to help.

Hey, sorry for the long wait, my ISP thought it would be funny to cease my internet connection even though I paid this month, anyway.
Sadly no luck, the phone continues to do random reboots, shut downs and such, thankfully contacts, text messages or apps haven't been deleted, so I guess that' one problem fixed.

I know this is a long shot. But back in the day I had an OG EVO 4G with a bad factory battery. The battery was causing an intermittent short ( it was a manufacturing defect in the battery) . Thereby causing the voltage to fluctuate wildly, causing reboots. So with that in mind. Have you tried a different battery ? Just trying to eliminate possibilities.
