what gives with twrp and cwm on the note 8?
Neither worked with my 64gb sd card to backup and restore and can't mount sd card to flash rom. left CWM on here because just use to it for now.
I had a tab 3 8 and twrp was way more advanced for it. is there some love missing on the note 8.
Other than that glad I returned my tab 3 and got the note 8... Lots of rom options.
TWRP 2.6.0 (here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2252162), works perfectly with my 64GB (exfat), only problems I had (incomplete backups) were with later versions, but it might have been just me.
As for CWM - I did not follow it for some time, last I checked it had no exfat support, also no touch - but it might have changed...

Thanks missed that one. Duh.

Don't give up, TWRP 2.6.0 from post #1 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=40744405) works perfectly, and it has two advantages over CWM: touch and exfat (64GB) support

Youre not the only one. I tried Xquzit JB roms which installs it. Went back and forth between CWM 4.8.4.5 and 6.0.1.2 and every time back up fails on 6.0.1.2. I suggest downgrading.

I took the plunge. I've been reading a lot of posts that claim it doesn't work on the Note 2, but an equal amount that say it does. I know you can either format it in fat32 or exfat. Exfat allows you to store files larger than 4GB, such as HD movies.Is there any other advantage to using exfat than the 4GB file size option? Also, I'm pretty sure exfat won't work with TWRP recovery, right? I'd be stuck with stock recovery if I opted for exfat formatting, right?
TWRP is a recovery not a kernel. If you're running stock kernel exfat should work.

It will not find the your SD card if you try to do a backup and restore if you formatted the card using exfat. I wonder what would happen if I went ahead and installed TWRP, but when I did my back up I inserted a smaller, back-up card that formatted with fat32. I could reinsert the fat32 card only if I needed to restore the backup...

I have no idea. All I know is on my ATT Inspire the nandroid backups were always stored on my SD card using CWM.
For CWM, if you want to back up to extSdCard, you have to select "backup to external card" or something like that.
for TWRP, the latest version supports exFAT & when you are in backup, you can select if you want to backup to internal or external sdcard. its a radio button.

People are saying clockwork mod rom manager does not support note 2 yet. I think you can use Odin to install it however. Maybe it's just that the app doesn't support note 2 yet. I wonder if I should just wait until the goole play clockwork mod app adds note 2 support. I suspect it won't be long.

The latest version supports exFAT because I'm using TWRP with a 64gb formatted exFAT & the dev released a version that supports exFAT in the TWRP thread.

You don't need to use ROM manager because CWM & TWRP does everything it does and if you want to update CWM then you'll have to use ODIN.

Just download GooManager from the Play store and select to install Open Recovery (like previous poster said). The first few releases of TWRP did not support exFat, but the dev was nice enough to add it.
I just booted into TWRP and confirmed it's there.
Thanks.

Thanks to everyone for clearing this up! The developer of TWRP should consider noting that TWRP now offers exfat support on the TWRP OP. That's a pretty big deal IMO.
My phone arrives Monday, but my 64gb card probably won't be here for a while. In the meantime I will be using a 32GB fat32 card. Any harm in just powering down the phone and switching cards when the new, larger exfat card arrives? Switching cards never seemed to be an issue on my old Inspire. I mainly just use the card to house music and movies.

so i go back and go to "mounts and storage" and select "mount /external_sd and im getting the error message "Error mounting /external_sd!
i rebooted my phone and went into my gallery and all of my sd card contents are still there and playing...
any way to get the external sd card to work with CWM 6.0.2.5???
I had the same issue with cwm I'm sure a lot of people running cwm 6 did as well. I don't have a solution. I would switch to teamwin recovery if I were you..I'm running 3.2.2.x I've had no mounting issues or aroma sticking issues. Until theres a fix for c.w.m 6... I'm on team win. Hope this helps.

The app is called goo.im, it is in the play store. once installed and open hit you menu key and bring up the settings drop down, fourth option should be install OpenRecoveryScript, hit that and fallow the steps, it will overwrite CWM. That is what I did. Flash at your own risk. Good luck. I attached a screen shot of the menu.

Good job. Thanks.
A have request though... for the front hardware keys press actions...
Right now:
HOME - acts as ENTER which duplicates POWER key and ENTER virtual key;
MENU - moves selection down which duplicates VOLUME DOWN key and virtual key;
To many duplicate keys/actions...
Can you change them to act more natural, like:
HOME - go to main recovery screen;
MENU - show/hide log;
Also, don't know if it's possible to turn on the touch keys light..

Yes, I've restored a million backups on philz no issue. And the includes one backup made with twrp. Twrp is the recovery with issues. If you want the brickloop restore zip just to have on your SD card I have it. That's a good just in case kinda deal I keep. But I've only had it once and it was twrp. That's a sketchy ass recovery imo
This is some to notch stuff here. Out of curiosity, I tried backing up to external sdcard and it took close to 30 minutes. Then tried twrp, took only 5 minutes. Flashed cwm 6.0.4.5 (not philz touch) same 5 minute result.
Not *****ing or anything, just wanted you to know.
Is there a way to increase write speed to external?

Aroma file manager http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=25911428
Download at the bottom of the 2nd post, rename "aromafm.zip", and place it in sdcard/clockworkmod/aromafm. Then the aroma file manager option under "philz settings" will work.
It wasn't automatically included in the recovery when I flashed, so in case others are missing it as well

Backs up for me in 5 mins or less. Twrp takes forever to back stuff up. Lolol you have it all backwards
Ok so I actually have some really serious problems that I need some help with fast.
My details so you can help me with the following
*Running DN3 3.2 ROM rooted
*MJ5 new bootloader
*TWRP(at the moment)
*AGNi kernel
Soooo, here are the problems I encounter
I cant find a proper way to swap internal with external sd card. Now hear this super strange problem. Both with the script on this forum and the setting on AGNi control app DO INDEED swap the int with the ext sd card but theres a catch. Neither of them can swap the sdcard0/Android/obb(which is the folder I wanna swap -.-')but they swap the rest of the mount point! Soooo strange. As a result theres no space recover by applying this method and the obb folder still stays at int storage.
I really hate MTP on 4.3 Is there any way to enable the freaking USB Mass Storage?
Whenever I move an app to the sd card(settings/manage applications)and I reboot, after the reboot the app is lost and it says "App not installed" whenever I click its icon. This is the situation even after rebooting, I cannot move the app back to internal storage and as a result I have to uninstall and reinstall the app which leads to loss of data.(Note that I'm using a 32GB class 10 sd card)
I cannot make a proper backup and/or make a proper restore. I have tried both latest Philz and latest TWRP, the backup takes around an hour to do(REAALLLYYY long...)and then if I try to restore it says "Restore failed" on both recoveries.(On Philz it said md5 mismatch or something similar and on TWRP it said just restore failed)My only theory is that because I was trying to install a 4.4.2 ROM after making a backup and the recoveries were simply incompatible with KitKat, but other than that I don't understand why this happens.
Sorry for so long post but I really need help here. Thanks in advance!
Don't use the latest version of philz, it takes very long to boot the Rom for the first time which makes one get scared. Use version 5 Philz. After you wipe dalwik cache , go to mounts and format sd card and external card(take backup) then flash the Rom and reboot.
I flashed dn3 v 3.2 with cwm which ended up stucking at boot screen. Then I was told to use philz 5,now it works the works like charm. If I was you now I would flash the stock rom (unroot ) then root and flash dn3. Keep the stock kernel which comes with the rom. I didn't flashed mj5 boot loader instead I flashed Dr ketan's Wi-Fi patch. I had problem switching on Wi-Fi. Hope you get your problem resolved this is an amazing rom!

Hi NickVXD, I faced the same and was very disturbed, but finally it worked, the obb is swaped. I'm also using Agni latest.
What I did
1st I disabled the option from agni control app
Then rebooted
Then went to CWM
Flash the latest script of mattiadj, this one
https://www.dropbox.com/s/ivl678c67r7z57g/extsd2internalsd_fat32_gs3_8.zip
..and the obb folder is swaped.
Regarding Proper Backup & Restore
During a restore, from CWM misc nandroid settings, uncheck md5 checksum
Then restore.
It'll restore.
Hope it helps.

@nitol Thanks a lot for the obb solution, will check it later and report back. The problem with CWM isn't getting rid of the md5sum but to find a way to make the backup not corrupted. I had made a backup and then when I restored it said md5mismatch. So I removed md5sum check from settings and when the restore was done, I rebooted and phone stuck at note 2 screen. So the problem is the corrupted backup and not the md5. Also backup took 50-55 minutes to finish. Is that normal?? Thanks again.
