The stock Calendar app on my Acro S completely fails to change its notification sound. I don't know for sure whether it was like this on ICS but on stock (rooted & deodexed) .96 JB it's just not working. I go in to Settings, tap "General Settings" and then "Sound" under Notifications and Reminders. I use Sound Picker to choose a notification sound, tap "Done" and when it goes back to the General Settings screen it still shows "Default ringtone". This happens with the standard Sony tones or with tones that I have created (my tones are .mp3 files, in \system\media\audio\notfications\ and with permissions set to "-rw-r--r--", like the standard .ogg files already in there.
Anyone else seeing this, or have any ideas how I might fix it?
Hmm, well it turns out that changing the Calendar notification sound using Media Storage works fine, Sound Picker doesn't. Who knew?
Sound Picker worked just fine for Mail and Messaging. Oh well...

Hello,
I've changed my default ringtone for all incoming calls with a louder old phone type ringer. I've never changed sms tones before.
Can I have specific sms tones for specific incoming sources? Eg. all friends on one tone and a special one for my office? None of the tones are loud enough for my environment and I do get a lot of texts from the office and for whatever reason they insist on texting emergency requests instead of calling me.
Thanks
Download Zedge from the market then download notification tones and after you download them and hit the set button in the app you have the option to set that tone for whatever you want.

You can hook your phone up to your computer and put any sound you want into the "Notifications" folder. Those will then show up when you go to select them.
You can assign different apps to ring differently, and assign specific contacts a ringtone. Not sure about groups, though...

Thanks - I've installed Zedge, I then went to my phone system options, sound, default notification. If I select zedge, it says there are no tones. Is there a place to load it on my phone from my computer? I don't need any katy perry songs, just a really loud ring or buzzer. I put a custom sound in my internal storage notifications folder - I'd like to make that the default sound for only one sender of texts, everything else could have the default sound.

Thanks I tried a few different sounds but no matter what I pick when a new text comes in I only get a very quiet ding dong type sound.

So you're saying when you go into Settings > Sounds > Default notification, no matter what you set it to your incoming notification is different? Even with stock sounds?
Have you gone into Messaging > Settings > Choose ringtone, and select "Default ringtone" from the scrolling list. Does it change? It should play the sound when you touch it.

Yes- no matter what sound I choose even stock sounds - I get a double chime - kind of like ding dong. I'm using full stock Verizon GN. No rooting.
I can change the default ringtone for phone calls.
I did also reboot after changing the default and I still get the ding dong type sound which is not the sound I set for it. The sound it makes is Pollux for incoming SMS messages but I've tried to set it to several others such as even vega or proxima but it always makes the Pollux sound.
I'm going through
- settings
- Sound
- default notification
Is there some place else I should be going to to change the sms incoming text sound?
I cant get my default notification sound to change - I can change the gmail new email sound to change from within the gmail settings but for pop email, sms etc the sound doesn't change no matter which sound I pick?
Am I doing something wrong?
Tks
Have a look at the guide below.

Personalizing with sound sets
Each sound set gives you a different combination of sounds for your ringtone and notifications such as incoming messages, email, calendar event reminders, and more. By switching between sound sets, you can instantly make HTC One X ring or alert you with fun sounds when you're out with friends or change to subtle sounds while you're at work.
Creating a sound set
Slide the Notifications panel open, and then tap > Personalize.
On the Sound tab, tap Sound set.
On the Sound sets screen, tap .
Enter a new sound set name, and then tap Done.
The newly created sound set is then added to the list of sound sets. You can assign different tones to the sound set to your preference.
Changing your ringtone, notifications, and sounds
Slide the Notifications panel open, and then tap > Personalize.
On the Sound tab, tap Sound set.
Choose a sound set you want to customize, or create a new one, and then tap Apply.
Change the ringtone, notification sound, and alarm from the Personalize screen.
HTC One X automatically saves your choices to the current sound set.
Deleting sound sets
Slide the Notifications panel open, and then tap > Personalize.
On the Sound tab, tap Sound set.
Tap .
Select one or more sound sets you want to delete.
Tap Delete.

I think the poster meant that regardless of which sound you set as notification sound, it will still use the default notification sound. Just to clarify, even though it wasn't necessary as I've owned an htc android phone before, I did read the guide as i was stumped too. I can select any custom sound for notifications, it just doesn't use it. It's different for email notifications though, that will use the sound I set without problems... Anyone have a fix? It was like this since it first came out of the box.

Like topic. How do I change the email (hotmail) notification sound? I can't seam to find it in the settings in the email app. Though I can easily change the sound in the Gmail map, and other apps.
And the sound in the Email app is not the same as the phones default notifications sound.
Seriously? no one? :/
Settings, Personalize, Sound (at bottom of screen), Notification sounds, Email
Volume is Settings, Sound, Volumes
Big thanks, would never have found it
Anyone know a way to get a custom notification sound on the watch. Not ringtone but notification sound? Wanting to change ringtone and notifications
sure search for "Smart wear notification" works like a charm.
Hello I have a question regarding ringtones for the HW2.
I moved .ogg files from my PC to the HW2 folder - SDCARD/Ringtones.
Âfterwards I rebooted the watch. On the sound notification tab the titles are listed. The pre-listening of this files are also working but when I select it and then I make a call on the watch it only vibrates and gives a single repetetive "ding"-sound. Is there something that I have to adjust?
Thanks
I know how to change the general notification sound, and it works; but how do I change the notification sound with a custom .wav or. mp3 and it actually works?
I chased it in the Messages settings and it shows the filename selected. When I exit the settings menu and receive a text, it plays the previous default notification sound. I cchecked the Messenger settings and it still showed the custom file I chose as the current notification sound.
I tried the same steps and restarted the device and the sound never actually changes.
Any ideas?

I think you need to convert your audio file to .ogg file
Also, I discovered you have to wait about 30 seconds after you select a sound for it to be activated.
There are free mp3 to ogg convertors on the Internet. I used this one:

Firstly,
I have a N975F Note 10 +
This is what i do .
My methods works fine for me
Just a pointer that i do use mp3 for any notifications ,ringtones etc , no issues.
i also can use wav files ,no issues .....
Not just ogg.
Anyway i use 2 x methods to access these sounds settings.....
either my sms notification sound or general notification sound
eg email, news etc
First through Sms/ 3 dot / /settings / notification /new messages etc.
I use a mp3 sound.
Secondly Device /Settings /Sound and vibration /Notification / etc etc
See the 2 x ways below for the relevant screenshot methods.
Good luck.
Just download one of those ringtone maker apps. Load up your file and save it as a notification sound. Easy Peasy
