I'm no expert on Samsung (just got my GN3), but I was something of one on HTC devices. My guess is that you'll either have to root and hack up the build.prop file (change the DPI field) or use something like Xposed Framework and Per-App Settings to pull this off.
On my Note 1 with CM10.1 I enabled tablet mode by setting dpi to 200. That's probably too low to be easily readable on the Note 3's high DPI screen though.

There is an app, called "LCD Resolution".
It lets rooted phones to change the resolution. It is free and works on ace.
Looks cool.. Post a comment if you used it.. and what setting is optimum.
It just changes the screen density. However, if you really are intent on using it, try 140 and your 2d performance will improve a little bit.
Muhaha from pocketnow
You can d this also manually by editting build.prop or with lcd density

Two screenshot collections. One before other after setting to 140 (also added more columns with ADW).
My language has long words, this helps to see full length words in settings menu.

have you tried make/recieve a call with a different lcd density? i guess your phone app will simply crash.
If there is a solution please, i'll be very glad to know about because my ace with a 140 density is much more appealing to the eye!
Great apk. And which smalest can change density 140 or smalest?

Just booted with 80 (940x640)
I'm wondering, since 800x480 game resolutions wont fit Galaxy Ace's screen, will changing the density to 800x480 from 480x320 make it fit? Haha just curious though

So it only changes the density, not the physical resolution of the screen, right?
Don't get it. Conventionally High Dpi = High resolution but it seems the opposite in this application.
Did you notice any loss of sharpness guys?
Using now 120, 110 status bar fc, 100 bootloop
If you do this keep it mind that it breaks the market, most things will say your device is incompatible, and lots of stuff will be missing.
At eny resolution i try i got crush of com.android.phone all other work good but i cant use phone for call :/ wen i got o try make call .. crush ;/
Any trik ??

can anyone make the tablet camera work on mobile version of ics
It's the same app. Have a look for tablet mode under themes and apps.
I know that but I was trying to see if it will work without having to be in tablet mode

Why? Cant we just force it to be in tablet mode? I changed my pixel density to 240, and some apps think it's a tablet.
With Paranoid Android, you can choose perAPP density - so you can choose camera.app to run in Tablet UI...
I tried paranoid, but didn't like it. I am now on liquid, and I like it, so I only need camera app.

I was just lurking around looking for this feature on our Notes. Would love to have one on our note II and since the original Note had a mod developed enabling this feature, reckon it shouldn't be hard.
So anyone?
I think an alternative would be Multi Window Manager app

Alternative for what, mate? I have that already and it doesn't have the cascade windows option. If it does, how do you enable that?

An alternative to the link you showed for the N7000. But nevermind i just checked the developers comment and he mentioned that although the app works in the n7100, the cascaded windows is only supported on tablet ui. So its safe to assume that for the time being the only way, at the moment, to get this working is to change your UI to tablet. But if there is a better alternative i would like to know too.

How do you change the UI to tablet? Xposed Framework? Sure as hell am not flashing non TouchWiz based roms to get the feature, although I badly want this.

This method just brings about more issues than good. Not to mention with the dpi set that low I don't know how anyone can read text on their phones.

Look there's a stock based rom here called Mini Tab it will change your ui to something similar to the Note Tab.
Sent from my GT-N7100 using xda premium
Yeah I'm aware of MIniTab using 10.1 interface and seriously thinking of switching to that. Though I'm a bit skeptical as for whether it'd work reasonably well, I guess I'll give it a shot anywho
Interesting thread I found here:

Not working for me though. When I change the android system resolution, still remains the same.

What do people think the optimum dpi is for this device? On the samsung galaxy s4 I often used 360 or 340 dpi.
240 max! Probably closer to 180 would be best imo

Touchwiz and SystemUI crashes when I tried 240. Currently using 350 with decent results. (If only the dialer scaled properly.)

Those are the DPI numbers for the Note 2 which will not work on this phone given the screen is very different.

Using 340 right now myself and and it works well. I don't use Buiild.prop to do it so I don't have problems with the dialer. I use Xposed to set it on a per app basis.
How do you change DPI?

Either by editing build.prop (this will cause scaling issues with touchwiz apps like the dialer) or by using app settings
You're going to need root access and the Xposed framework see here
Using App settings will allow you to change DPI on a per app basis.
320 is working well for me.
I will give 320 a try as well. I switched to a build prop edit for 340 and using closed to switch dialer, contacts, and gallery back to 480.

I really wish we could just recenter the dialer because I really can't stand how big it is, even at 440. Or even just make it scale to the right side instead of left lol.

It's easier to use App settings to control DPI on a per app basis.
Hello,
I have a note 10.1 and am looking to replace it with the 2014 edition, the issue I have is I have some work software on my note that only supports the old display resolution 1280*800 from memory.
Could someone here try the resolution change on the 2014 edition of the note and let me know how the device and touchwiz performs? I am hopeful my work software will be updated at some point to support newer display Resolutions but am after a new tablet in the next week or so.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2404783
Link describes how the change should work.
Thanks for any help on this,
Andy
I Dont know if this will work but it might be worth a shot:
Download Xposed framework together with App Settings. From App Settings all you have to do is change Resolution/DPI on those Apps.

Thanks guys. Has anyone tried any of these apps on the tab 2014 to see how it runs with the old note 10.1 resolution? Can. Just adjust the resolution for my specific enterprise apps?
