Hi guys. I'm in trouble. I have a rooted nexus 7 2013 which was working just fine for a couple of months. Then abruptly it seems to have bricked itself.
After checking my mail, I closed my magnetic case as usual. Then when I opened the case as usual a few hours later I discovered it had powered itself off. Strange! But I just pressed the power button and it started booting up. However it got to the X screen and just stayed there. I rebooted several times always with the same result.
So I tried powering up with the down volume and power button pressed and it took me to a screen with "restart bootloader" which I did, and then 'start". But no difference : it stays at the X screen and no further.
I then went to the recovery screen and got the open android robot with a RED triangle and explanation mark. Going power up or down did not bring up any other options
Looks like I'm really bricked!
Trouble is that I'm away from home and will not be back for 3 weeks. I therefore don't have a computer to connect to and try to do something. Only the nexus 7 to work with.
The nexus is rooted and I have TWRP recovery backups on it but no way to access them.
Is there anything I can do to recover from this brick? I really need help and I'm an android newbie.

I was using my phone normally today and it suddenly died on me and rebooted. Now it won't boot at all and it's stuck on the Galaxy Note II N7100 logo and it'd die out again and then show the Galaxy Note II N7100 logo again, never reaches the samsung boot up logo even. Pressing volume buttons for recovery mode does not work at all, it just keeps on rebooting. Pressing for the download page works but if you press volume up or volume down or do nothing even for a few seconds it reboots again!
My battery was at 60 percent prior to this and I was not doing anything at all. I was using Wanam's rom with adam kernel + s4 theme for two weeks now with no hitch.
Another weird thing about this whole thing is that if I pop the battery at the back it automatically boots up without me having to press any buttons. I've tried EVERYTHING now and I really hope my phone did not just die on me. Charging the phone sorta works but Im not to sure because I have a feeling it reboots without having any actual charging done.

HOLY COW YOU'RE RIGHT!! I CAN'T BELIEVE THIS!! It works now after one hour!
Should I sell my phone now before it goes bad or do you think this is just a random occurance?
You probably hit the power button without knowing it and got stuck. This could be just a simple occurance. Or it got damaged in which case you have to change the power button contact. Not easy but it can be done.

Was doing some research and some people have also experienced this when they accidently dropped liquid unto the power button. I was washing my case awhile ago and there's a remote possibility that this happened albeit only a little. After I got it working it only happened once again and it's been working perfectly since.
I was getting really frantic awhile ago because I really needed my phone at that time lol

I just recently ran into a very strange issue with my phone where i attempted to reboot into recovery via rom toolbox and the phone just powered off. My power button hasn't been working at all within the last month so I've been just doing battery pulls to get the phone booted up, however this time, it only will get to the samsung screen, says rebooting recovery in the upper left hand corner of the screen in blue and then immediately powers off. I attempted to get into DL with a jig and that was successful but i suffered the same fate. DL mode loaded but my screen just immediately shut off after two seconds. Since this started happened earlier, whenever i plug my phone into a power source, it's not charging. All of this sounds like a borked power button but i was hoping to get other opinions before I ship my phone off for repairs just in case it's NOT a power button issue. I was running TWRP recovery and ground zero rom by validus without issues for around two months without any trouble before this oddity occurred. Only other thing i can think it would be is ROM toolbox somehow corrupted my recovery? Sounds like a stretch but i suppose it's possible. Any insight would be highly appreciated, thanks in advance.
Solved: power button was shorted at the MB circuit. Sent my phone to mobiletechvideos and Josh had it fixed and back in a week.

hello XDA Community.
this morning something terrible happened.
so i woke up,turned my Galaxy Nexus on and used it for about 3 minutes and suddenly the screen flashes with weird colors and the phone shuts down.
my first thoughts were that the phone has crashed and all i need to do is turn it back on.
i pressed the power button but the phone doesn't start, nothing happens not vibrations and nothing on the sceen.
i pulled out the battery for few secs and put it back in,same result nothing is happening and my Gnex is not starting.
i tried hard reset (power+Volume Down) with same results.
i'm running stock official android 4.3 and never rooted my phone and it's the GSM variant of the Gnex.
any help and thoughts are greatly appreciated.
Hi all,
My Nexus 7 doesn't respond to me at all now. I've tried holding the power button down for at least 30 seconds and nothing shows up, I've also held the power button and the volume down button to no avail. I've removed the back and unplugged the battery for a few moments and holding the power button, which didn't work either. When I connect to my PC, it seems like it recognizing my Nexus 7, but it can't do anything with it. It does show 'QHSUSB_DLOAD when I plug it in, but cannot install drivers and such. Absolutely nothing shows on my screen, not even a flicker.
My Nexus 7 is rooted through Towelroot, but it has always worked once I reset.
It's been a couple of days since I last used my Nexus and it suddenly became that way when I tried using it today.
If anyone could help on how to fix this, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks!

Sounds to me like a dead battery. I know that the 1st gen N7 really did not like having the battery drained to zero and would have a seriously bad attitude once charged up. ; ) That said I never let the battery completely drain on any of my devices. Fact is my brother called me last week because he drained the battery on his N5 and data quit working. For some reason it disabled the data in settings. No biggie but still!
Put it on the charger for 2-3 hours then try to power it up. To get into the bootloader/fastboot screen manually I hold in the volume down button then press and hold the power button and it takes 4-5 seconds. Good luck!
wantabe,
I've tried what you said and charged it for several hours, but nothing turns on still when I push the power+volume down buttons. Thanks anyway. If you have any other suggestions, feel free to post them (I would rather not buy another one).
FYI, my Nexus 7 is a 2013 version, but I doubt that will help anything I also made sure all my connections are correct.

That's Qualcomm downloading mode, you can't repair it. Its bricked. Send it back for warranty purposes
Hello Readers,
So one day I was talking to someone on my Nexus 7 (2013) tablet with Hangouts Dialer for a little bit over an hour. Then my parents came home and I put it down, didn't end the call, to go say hi to them. I come back about maybe about 5 minutes later. Now my device won't respond to any touch but, sound still comes out from the side out of my speakers. Seeing as how my touches are doing nothing, I hold down the powerbuttan to re-boot it. I do that and it turns off. When it is off, only when I held down the button longer that I normally would to boot this up did it start to boot up. It then showed the white "Google" logo for a bit longer as well. So, I did the same as earlier, I held down the power button to turn it off, turned it back on, and it again stays at the logo. This time I put it on my desk for the night to see if it would solve itself. It didn't.
I wake up the next day and go check on my device and it is still at that white "Google" logo. Now I'm worried. I tried to google my issue and I saw the word "Bricked" which worried me even more.
Is my device bricked? Can it be fixed?
Thank you for your time.
I really don't think you bricked it. Have you any access to your recovery or can you get into download mode or ADB mode?
It sound to me like your devices OP needs something like cache wiped of even a factory reset. If that doesn't work then I would plug in to PC or laptop and run "Wugs toolkit" and reload the factory image.
A bricked device wouldn't even turn on, if anything, you may have a soft brick, which is easily remedied.
Hope this helped.

Ok, how would I do the "Wugs toolkit" thing?
