Killing my battery. Been so long since being on stock touch wiz, is this normal? I woke up and it had been the prime culprit, using about 60%.

Lol yeah me 2 bro. Just hoping for a tweaked rom soon and a freaking kernel. Def need kernel support
NOTE 3

It was like that for me to on the first day. The second day it calmed down. Maybe it needs to just set itself up, and get comfy.

no probs with orig batteries.....1yr+ old....

Assuming many of us got our EPICs on launch day or soon after.....curious if have you noticed any drop in battery life? Mine seems to be holding a charge as it did from the first few days of owning it.
This is the complete opposite to the Pre that I came from...I had to get a new battery after 7mos.
Am running SFR 1.2 with Twilight and SetCPU at Conservative 1000/200.
Same result
My battery is still being very nice to me as well.
I do have to say, running a custom ROM makes a world of difference. I have been running Bonsai, SR Frozen, and currently Simply AOSP, and get awesome battery life.
I went back to stock once to test a new ROM, and immediately remembered why I switched. After 5 hours of having my phone unplugged and just sitting in my pocket, I was down to 60% battery. Samsung should really catch on and throw some improvements into their stock ROM and then maybe it could actually be considered an improvement over vanilla Android.
My battery seems to be doing fine. Switched back to running RandpmROM hawk v4 from rooted.stock because I forgot how much the battery life on froyo sucked.

[Q] Anyone considering returning the E4GT due to bad battery life?

I am one of the unfortunate souls who is experiencing terrible battery life due to the AndroidOS bug. I feel like I spend half my waking hours trying to figure out what is causing it and doing different things to my phone improve my battery life.
I'm definitely getting sick of it and while I realize that Samsung/Sprint may eventually come out with a software update that fixes the problem, I'm not sure I'm willing to wait since it could take months (and the issue was supposedly fixed for GS2 phones in 2.3.4).
At this point, I'm considering going back to the Moto Photon--it's battery life is simply amazing. My only issue with the Moto is its unusable camera.
Anyone else getting as frustrated as I am and considering jumping ship to another phone?
What have you done to fix it?
Are you saying that you still have the bug even aftera factory reset ?
Why not just take it back and have them give you a new one since you obviously have a defective phone?
Also how many hours are you actually getting out of the battery?
I don't see any other phone worth switching to and I have had them all. Each with their own specific problem. But this one here is as good as it gets

I've tried just about everything that has been mentioned in the AndroidOS/battery life thread (reset, wifi, autosync) but I'm still getting only 12 hours of battery life on a good day, 8 hours on a bad day
I might try exchanging the phone, but I'm hesitant to do so due to the LOS bug (I have not experienced this with my phone as of yet).
Honestly, while I love the phone in many other ways, I'm about to throw the thing out the window since 8 hours of battery life is simply not acceptable to me

That doesn't mean anything to me. What's the display on time? How good/bad is the cellular signal?
Exchange it bro. Ive had two of these phones so far and none had this problem. I'm getting like 24-30 hours battery with like 4-5 hours screen on time. This phone had awesome battery. Download an apps called better battery stats. This will show wakelocks and processes that are draining the battery. Good luck man.

On a good day, the display is on for less than 30-45 min. On a bad day, the phone display time is somewhere between 90-120 minutes.
I pulled 16 hours ojt of my battery yesterday with over 12 on wifi and i was at 40 percent. I have to use wifi at work as i have no signal and when i do get signal its roaming. I would say that my conditions at work are far from ideal but this phone is great. My old phone would die before 1130(evo shift).

return it.
mine doesn't seem to get the android os bug unless i'm on a custom kernel. 1 week stock, no problems, 3 days on custom problems each day, back to stock + root and no problems for 48 hrs.
i still have to be 100% sure that my phone didn't like the kernel though so another test will be coming up after a few more days of observation.

I had the issue with the stock kernel and custom kernels. I'm just going to hold out until we can get a AOSP build and hope that using as little of Samsung's code fixes it.

I'm on stock and have nothing out of the ordinary installed. Out of curiosity, do you have a google account with full sync turned on?
Lol 8 12 hours isn't bad with a stock battery and 4.5 inch screen. If you are in a poor reception area it could be that. Otherwise you have alot of Apps running in the background.
My advice : root it and extended battery.

I average 15-20 hours easily on a charge, with a full sync google account
Everything Sync'd Listed below:
- Google+ Notifications
- Music
- Books
- Contacts
- Gmail
- Picasa Web Albums
- Calendar
If anything else can be Sync'd I have not run across it. I also have my Tapatalk set to notify me of PM's, and updates to Subscribed topics, I removed the accuweather widget because it only updates every 3 hours and installed Weatherbug Elite and set it to update every 30 minutes. On top of all that I browse the web regularly to visit sites that are websense'd at work, and I play dungeon hunter 2, and asphalt 6 on my lunch break. At home the phone sits on my desk until its time to pass out, only used for my Rift Mobile authenticator.
This is a real bug, with android
the system/0 process goes crazy and chews up the battery.
I get about 12 hours with everything disabled (other than gmail sync) and suspend/0 chews up battery
well documented here
http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=16721
it's a gingerbread issue, if you haven't experienced on the galaxy, you will soon
I'm also considering returning this great phone with crappy software until google releases a version of android that works.
by that time there may be a new "best android phone"
Why does the bug seem to affect the gs2 more than other phones? For example, I've never seen it mentioned on the photon forums

Maybe ICS is not for me? Third try - ridiculously bad battery life

Been flashing ROMs for a couple of years and have been among the early adopters when new ROMs come out. Have now tried the Blazer ICS ROM three times and it looks beautiful. First two tries i had odd things here and there, but coupled with horrible battery life, switched back to Blazer's GB 4.1 (which is the best ROM Ive ever used). Decided to try it one more time. Wiped eveything twice, re-downloaded Phantom's latest, and flashed it. Ran well all day yesterday and was excited to try it a full day today. Charged it full, then promptly forgot it when i left for work this morning. Thought it would still be interesting to see what the battery would be like with it on, but never used. No calls, no texts, just on, with the wi-fi on. Gone for 10 hours and it had just 16 percent left. Obviously, had i used it normally today, i would have gotten about 4-5 hours, only. Checked battery stats and the OS was 82 percent. I'm using the ROm's kernel and modem is FC24 (which works wonderfully with GB 4.1).
I've installed just a new browser and Root Explorer, but none of my other apps.
Any huge battery saving tips for this ROM I can try before just going back to 4.1 indefinitely?
Battery sounds about right with wifi fulltime on. As for tips
-Try placebo scripts
-Disable all the animations / backlight
-Use black theme / images as much as possible
-Create a deep sleep profile (disable everything when screen off)
But hey if battery is that important to you, just go back and enjoy GB, I know I would but I love me some current OS. well current by E4GT standards

Thanks - will search for "placebo scripts" (not sure I know about those). I have screen at minimum (and it was off the entire day), so that probably didnt come into play today. Will fire up setCPU and try your suggestion. I 'll try this one more day.
Battery life isn't everything to me, but it can't drain like it did today when i didnt even use it. I love trying the latest, but I've yet to experience ICS without deal-breaker issues. Any ICS Roms out there that dont have big issues? I really want to like ICS ...

I would install the TR & TN Black Rom in the android development ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1828068 ) and see how that does, if you still don't get good battery life then yeah ICS may not be for you. That Rom consistantly gets absolutely great battery life for me. I have tried them all and the black rom has considerably better battery life.
Try M'ICS 1.3 , calk & venum tweaked stock or wicked sensations 1.6. Then flash Sleshepic's the_governors_v1.2.3. All of those ROMs I've gotten at least 14-18hrs of battery.

Sounds like something is running in the background. In settings go to development and allow only one background process also flash agat 4.4 kernel. I keep my cpu at 100 min 1000 max with no lag. I get 13 to 16 hours with 3 hours onscreen time.

I bet its the wifi. Ever since ics, wifi would not let my phone go to deep sleep. Try for a day with just 3g. I'm sure you'll get decent battery life. I'm getting about 3 hours on screentime daily. Set wifi to sleep when screen is off. Though there's a problem of wifi connecting back from deep sleep. I just turn wifi on when in need it

Thanks for all the great suggestions. I made a couple of changes and had significantly better results today. Went to a conference all day and left it in the car. Was on for 10 hours, but never used. Two notable changes in my settings today: turned off 4g, and setCPU of screen to 200 max. Yesterday, i was down to 16 percent after about 10 hours of zero use, and today was at 89 percent after 10 hours of no use. Tomorrow I'll use it for about a half-day of normal use and Thursday will be a full day of normal use.
So, for now, I'll continue with Phantom's ICS.
Just noticed that I'm down to 77 percent, having now used it for about an hour. Looks like i need to continue to tweak this. Any more suggestions are greatly appreciated.
In the meantime, how do you set wi-fi to sleep when not in use (besides manually turning it off and on)?
Hmm I have had nothing but good battery life...

I would try doing another very good wipe and some other ICS roms....My current rom went 1 day 4hrs 46min Sunday, That's with texting, Gtalk Tapatalk, couple phone calls, music player and 1 hr 46 mins of on screen time. Running a themed stock ff18 rom. Oh and cpu sleep from the market.
Might also want to try the full FH13 (clearing data) and see how you do with that.

Great info, guys. On Day 3, using it about a half day, and it got through the day - about 14 hours. Tomorrow, I'll use it like i normally would. Am hopeful it will get 10 hours. Am reading about how to install Agat's 4.4 kernal. Am hoping that will help, too.

it does.... theres some sort of bug with the Kernel if not done right or something. I didn't use my tmobile note 2 too much before the update (since i was still on Sprint at the time) but when i did start using it, battery life was good, i then upgraded, and with VERY minimal use, everything ato turned off, and being aware of when i had bads signal so i can switch to just wifi, it would last just as long as my gf's Nexus 4.... BUT i wiped EVERYTHING in recovery (Data, System, cache, etc.) did a clean install, and it works MUCH better
Mine seems to be doing well after the update.
same data speeds at my office as prior to the update.
Question to the people who have battery life issues. Do you power cycle your phone?
I got in the habit of power cycling my previous android devices some time ago. Usually in the morning when i first get up ill power cycle it, then while im getting ready for work it has time to settle down. (refering to the media sync bug that was on my GS2 and GS3) Yesterday i forgot to power cycle my note 2 and i noticed that i did have higher then normal battery drain. But that was on day 2. The day before, which was after a power cycle it was just fine. Next day with no power cycle coming off over night charge it drained a lot faster throughout the day. I power cycled this morning and going to see if its back to normal good battery life by the end of today.
So my question is, do the people who are NOT having an issue with battery life power cycle once every 24 hours?
Do the people who ARE having battery issues NOT power cycling and are on say, day 2, 3, 4 or longer since a power cycle?

Power Cycling as in just turning off and on after a few minutes? I did do that, not sure about others. I also treated it as a whole new ROM in regards to battery and stats taking time to "settle", but the battery was still bad until i did the absolute clean install
Correct, i power off my phone, leave it off anywhere from a minute to five or ten minutes.
usually i wake up, power off phone, brush teeth and put in contacts, turn on phone, take a shower and get ready for work, pull phone off charger right before i walk out the door.
I did notice worse battery yesterday. I also had a lot less usage yesterday then i did the previous few days and weekend. the only thing i did different was use the phone less and forget to power cycle it.

So how do you like it so far?

I'm going to be getting the G3 Friday and enroll in the new $100 for 4 people with 10gb data plan. Wondering how do you like your guy's G3's so far? Is the battery life good? 3gb of sufficient? Does the snapdragon 801cut it for you guys?
One thing I noticed was the development for this phone is slower than other G3 phones even with an unlocked bootloader.
How do you guys like the screen? I liked it but sometimes I thought it might look washed out just slightly. And the digitizer effect is there alright. But over all its the best phone to get right now.
Also for the techies, how much vram does the adreno use out of the 3gb memory. I bet its around 512mb huh?
Battery life for me kinda blows. Screen on kills it pretty fast. Out does look amazing though. I switched from a Sony Xperia ZL. I like the G3 better but there are things I like about the ZL over the G3 and vice versa.
Get it. In my eperience the battery life is amazing. I get 30+ hours with approximately 4-4.5 hours screen on time. As you mentioned It's also arguably the best phone out atm. The screen is beautiful and nothing I've seen comes close to it (s5/m8). The only issue I've had so far is the phone getting too hot but that's probably due to the fact that I've disabled the auto brightness feature when the phone gets too hot. I may have to change that back if it occurs again. All in all I couldn't be happier with my purchase!

I got my G3 this morning along with a S4 for my wife when we switched from Verizon to TMO.
I had a S4 with Verizon and absolutely loved it. Had it running to perfection with safesterap and Echo rom v26.1............could get 36hrs between charges and I had it set up sweet
SO it took a bit to get everything set with TMO, and get all my basic apps set and my Apex launcher set before I rooted and set all the rooted apps up as well as loading the latest TWRP recovery.
I gotta say for what I have seen so far, its so fricken worth it. G3 tweakbox gives about 90% of all the customization I need....be good to throw a theme on top of some of the stock stuff but heck I can live with that.
I'll update in a couple days, but so far, I am impressed
I've had the g3 for about 4 days. Coming from Nexus 5. I don't like the default launcher so installed nova prime. Nova prime forgets its the default launcher about once a day. LG Health is nice but you have to set up a shortcut action on nova. It doesn't show up in the apps list. I installed the google keyboard but get the gapps crashed message on each reboot. I think it's because the g3 ships with 4.4.2. The screen on the g3 is really nice. The battery life may be nice. Never really left it as my regular phone line longer than a day.
I like it. I just like the nexus 5 with purity ROM more. I switch back and forth every so often. About 90% of each day I'm on the nexus 5. Is it worth the cost for 10% use? Probably not. I have about 9 days to decide whether it's worth the cost.

I got my G3 on launch day. I used the stock launcher for a day, then installed Nova. Nova has never forgotten it was the default launcher. I still use the stock keyboard. I have never received a gapps error message. The screen is awesome, but I think 1080p would have been fine, with longer battery life to boot. The G3 battery lasts a whole day, but my Note 2 went even longer. However, I am very pleased with the G3 and plan to keep it. It will only get better as development expands.
I still have no idea how people get amazing battery life. I picked up the Verizon one and have great signal almost everywhere and best times I have gotten were 20 hours and 3 hours sot. How people are getting, 30 hours and 5 hours sot is beyond me.
It's a great phone, gets me through the day, who has is honestly all I need, however it's not much different than anything else out there.
I personally enjoy my Flex just as much. Just too big for work now and having to switch carries, however rest of the family is on T-Mobile.

I think most people were expecting adequate/sub-par battery life due to the amount of pixels being pushed through the same 801 processor when compared to S5 and M8. To me, the fact that it holds up to the competition (1080p) and even sometimes outperform them, is a win for LG and G3 consumers.
