Battery Drain bad - Nexus 7 (2013) Q&A

Hey guys, I've been using my nexus 7 and one thing I noticed is that my standby for the tablet is bad like I would leave it on my table for an hour and it drains about 5 percent. I have a droid DNA and with that I usually lose ,maybe 1-2% an hour on standby while connected to WiFi. Any ideas? Also I'm using clean ROM 1.7 and elemental kernal 1.4

The usual reponse....
install one of the available Battery apps which track wake locks etc and then optimize your settings or switch to another Kernel/ROM

Which app do you recommend?

This one seems good - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.uzumapps.wakelockdetector&hl=en_GB

I am in utter AWE about the idle drain. It's almost non-existent. Carbon Rom, default kernel, with Greenify and AutoStarts, the usual tweaks. Result:
Two percent a day is "doable"

What apps were running?
Have you tried installing current widget to see what is exactly happening, or how much voltage is going through your phone, even though it's sleeping? (ie, screen off)
I have not tried yet

This happened to me a few times (with almost no apps running) on RC7. Updating to 2.01 seems to have fixed that for me.
If that doesn't help, try using a different kernel and/or a different radio version and see if that works for you (we're reduced to experimentation as nobody has ben able to determine what exactly causes this issue).
I'm well impressed with mine. I went to bed with it fully charged, used it a bit in bed, always play a game and check the forums. Not plugged in at all and woke up this morning and its still fully charged!!
Amazing, since I have yahoo messenger running always. Been using it a lot since I woke up and now on 96% but I know its mainly the screen that uses a lot.
Brilliant ROM tbh
See if this helps:

well it's not really going to save your battery life, it just lets you see when/how the battery is being used up
Yes we can atleast know what apps are eating our battery.

Rc 7has better battery life than oxygen 2rom l
In the whole night it eats only 4% battery
Oxygen 2has some big fault it drains battery for some people.
But its modrators are not ready to accept it.
But its a bug.

Looks like you have an app in the background that causes your problems and dont let your phone to deep sleep
i figured it was something along that line...since deep sleep takes up so little. but i thought the screen is the biggest waster, any app that is simply in the background shoudlnt deplete my battery so fast.... i have to charge 3 times a day...
BUT HOW DO I FIX THIS..

I am not sure what apps and mods you are running, but what i would do is:
-install android wall from HERE to block some useless apps to access the internet (this app has a widget too so you can enable and disable the firewall whenever you want)
-use more the task manager to track what apps are running
-follow this instructions (the one you think could help)
-and disable some unneeded apps here
edit: almost forget, dont use any task killer, they are useless and causing more battery drain ... ill quote one of the best kernel devloper we have on the HOX so far, faux123: "Please DO NOT use any task killers, they DO NOT improve performance nor battery life. They INTERFERE with your phone's stability (more crashes) and App compatibilities (Forced Close)."

[q] big battery problem please help!!!!

No matter which ROM i choose wether its 2.3 based or 4.0 based, Calks or Phantom. Even CM9, Team Dirt. I always get crap battery life. ANDROID OS and ANDROID SYSTEM hog the battery!!! Why is this. The only thing that has not changed will i have been flashing all these roms is the Modem. I am currrently running FF18 Modem. Could this be the culprit? Please help guys!
The android os usage in ICS is normal. What do you consider bad battery life?
So many things affect battery life. Low signal will wipe out a battery in no time, synching multiple accounts (email, facebook is notoriously bad...) and software you may have installed. How is the battery drain when the phone is sleeping? Since there really isn't much we can do about battery while you're actually using the phone, the next step is to improve on sleep efficiency and this will help the battery life overall.
Try installing BetterBatteryStats. There is a thread here on XDA you can search for and download and install this app. The best way to use it is to let the phone sleep on battery without using it for a minimum of 2-3 hours, overnight is best. Then view the kernel and partial wakelocks to see if something isn't allowing the phone to sleep properly.
battery battery life?
Couldn't you also use multiple profiles in an OC app to undervolt and underclock the phone when it sleeps? (screen off profile set to 800MHz and screen on 1200MHz) Just a suggestion, hope this helps.
I have to charge my phone twice a day because I am on it all the time. My ave battery life 11hr 47min. Running Badass Battery Monitor.
Turn off auto sync for your Google account on your phone and manually sync it from time to time. Before I did this android was at the top of the list in the battery. Now screen time dominates everything else in usage.

Yes I did this too, it helps a lot
Yes, synching too often is a killer.
Don't forget about the phone radio too: wifi/bluetooth/gps/data/4G all can have a negative impact if left running.
Someone recently posted that at his workplace, he had zero signal and he could barely make it through the day. He discovered turning data off entirely in that scenario saved battery in a huge way.

Bad battery to me is loosing 60% over night. That's running CM9, android is and system were the dominant battery hogs when that happened. Please help. I've downloaded betterbatterystats.apk but I don't know how to use it. Please help.

all they really do is shut your data off when the screen is off, which will save you some battery. but then you wont get any notifications from apps that use data i.e. email, Facebook, etc. or at least that's how it was last time i tried those apps like a year ago, maybe they've changed it.

The apps will sync, or should sync, depending on the interval you set the phone to sync. I have mine set every 15 minutes, it saves me around 10-15% battery life a day.
Depend on your settings I think, mine worked exceeding my expectations. I had the dreaded hot phone and literally 5 hours battery life. My last hope is to install a custom ROM and kernel and hope for the best, but I'm trying to stay stock as possible if I can help it. I have my fair share tinkering with custom ROMs with GNex and needless to say I'm done customizing (it's endless once you start!).
So I installed JDU just for the heck of it, lo and behold it actually works. I now get 12hrs with 15% left after a day worth of usage, browsing, lots of yelp, maps and navigation (travelling at the moment), pandora, fb, whatsapp, gosms, GNow and camera. Please note that I'm using the N4 for less than a week and still conditioning the battery, I use JDU for a full day today for the first time.
I realized that using JDU is only a temporary 'fix' until Google patch the battery issue. I hope to get 14-16hrs battery life without JDU on stock and rooted ROM. One can only hope eh..

Htc one x battery drain on standby

My htc one x had battery drain and went from 80 to 0 in 2 hours of standby. Weirdly, there are no wakelocks that would cause this.

What kernel what rom something keep your phone to go in deep sleep maybe a faulty ligh sensor or something else. You have 1h screen time but 2h7m awake and for 3 hour only 3s deep sleep. Are you sure your phone is on standby or you played or downloading something over wifi
cyanogenmod 11 m9 with stock cm kernel. there were no running apps and wifi and data were off. I even used greenify just before I put my phone in standby
