Hangouts calls dropping - Nexus 7 (2013) Q&A

Does anyone else experience drops while video chatting with the Hangouts app? I can only talk for 10-40 seconds before the call drops, the wifi icon turning grey and then blue again almost immediately. I'm close to the wifi router, so the problem is not coverage. Also, I'm running CM10.3, but I'm running that in my nexus 4 too and it works fine: I can talk for as long as I want without drops.

I don't get dropped calls on my n7 fHD, running cm10.2, but my mic sometimes stops working or the camera freezes after a few minutes. I do however experience your same exact problem while using Hangouts on my Galaxy SIII.

Happened to me and 2 friends we all have n7.

So it's a somewhat generalized problem. That makes Hangouts completely useless for me =/. I'll try Skype, then.
Thx.

[Q] Issue with Evernote

First post!
Sort of a new problem here (couldn't find anything quite like it using the search tool). I was recording a voice note using Evernote yesterday and my GNex crashed...screen went blank and then made a funky grey color on the display. A battery pull fixed the problem. This is the first crash I have had since I bought it 2 weeks ago. I did have one random reboot after I got done using WiFi Tether, but there are ton of posts on this and it seems to be a common problem.
Anyone else have issues with Evernote? Is it just an ICS compatibility issues? Is it something to worry about or is the occassional crash expected with a new phone running a brand new OS?
BTW...running 4.0.2 unlocked and rooted.
Thanks guys!
I've had no problems personally with evernote.

Having email issues

The other day I noticed my emails weren't coming thru in the stock email app. This seemed to happen quite often when I used an atrix 4g for a brief period. On my galaxy nexus this problem was fixed by manually going into the app and refreshing. I just wanted to know of this was a typical issue with the android os as I never really had this problem on my iPhone.

Check you settings in email app. Mine come through fine, I have even sent test emails and its all but instant.
Yes all the settings are set up fine. Everything works perfectly 97% of the time. Its just that one occasional time where I miss a batch of emails. Email is pretty important in my line of work.

I'm having issues unrelated to your problems when searching for emails. I'm using stock unrooted 4.0.2 and when I try to search for emails it always crashes the client.
I'm not sure what causes it but I get a message asking me to submit a crash report to Google every time.

MMS not coming through

I have continued issues with receiving picture texts.... I almost always have to tell the sender to send it once more for it to come through. I've also noticed my H bars turning from Blue to Grey when this happens.... Any ideas as to what could be causing this? At&t looks dumbfounded every time I go in or call about this....

TBH, it sounds like an ATT issue.
I know the common thought is that grey bars means lost connections to Google, but when that happens to me, I have always lost network connectivity.

Remove your Google account then add again. Reboot.
Edit, custom ROM? I went back to stock because of many random issues since 4.1.2 was officially released.

mms is either apn related problem or just bad coverage (no good data in area)
you can google different apn settings to try
I have to use go smd to view mms depending on what ROM I'm using.

Skype and Nexus 4

Hey guys, so I was wondering who else is having problems with Skype on their N4. I know I am because when I use Skype, after about 4-5 minutes into a conversation, my side gets cut off, the conversation becomes choppy, and my friends always complain why they cannot hear me. Our simple fix so far is just reestablishing the call, but that gets annoying (especially since we are usually on a game and chatting). Anyone else suffering problems with Skype?
Kind of a stupid question, but is it hardware failure (like my mic just randomly gives out on Skype) or is it just the app itself?

Try Google Hangout. If you still have the problem, it's likely a system issue. In all likelihood it's a Skype issue. Maybe un install and reinstall?
No issues with Skype here except for high battery usage.
I use Skype for about an hour every day it consumes about 30-40% of the battery.

I have tried that, but still does not work for me. Still get that problem. I am already starting to think it could be a hardware issue because of the person who posted below (Who I am quoting also).

Weird. Are you still using stock ROM or a custom ROM? If a custom ROM, which one? I am currently running on Android 4.2.1 (Stock ROM). I am even attempting to reflash the stock ROM to see if it would be resolved.
I use MoDaCo custom rom and no issues with Skype, both in 3G and Wi-Fi

I use a lot Skype to call in Italy and never had any problem.... Apart that now is microsoft

Does anyone here use stock ROM? I fear it may just be the ROM itself.

I think your earpiece is broken, you should do RMA.

Sorry, this is a stupid question, but what's RMA?
Also, I'm sure it's not an earpiece defect because it's the mic that acts up while I use Skype. Whenever I talk with them, I'm always using headphones. So I think I should be more worried about the mic.

I'm not going to lie, I had this issue as well on 2 calls with Skype in the past week, but I thought it was an issue with my Internet connection. Now I'm wondering what's going on exactly. Is there any way to test something like this? A faulty mic? How would one go about testing that if it's not a consistent sort of thing?

The same cut off probleme for me.
I use the CM10 nightly.
i ll try the stock to see.
I'm on stock ROM and have no trouble with Skype. I've used it for about 30 minutes on video calling, but it wore my battery down as well as used a lot of data. No doubt, the video and sound quality were both excellent.
Using CM10.1 made video call yesterday okay.

when the skype voice call goes into someone's voice mail nexus hangs
Hi everyone, I have a strange problem with skype on my nexus4; I have a nexus 4 running the stock 4.2.1 running and everytime i call someone if they pick up the phone everything's okay, but if they don't pick the phone and it goes to voice mail, my nexus 4 hangs and it does not become responsive unless i power the phone off and back on, and all this while the voice mail keeps going on. Similarly if the other party does not hang the phone the call just stays on and phone hangs again, i know this is a really weird one, please do let me know if anyone has seen this or something similar before.
I am stock 4.2.2 (no root) and have only used it once (short audio call). Worked OK except bluetooth is broken with old headset (phone audio profile), which works great on Nexus S using Skype and Nexus 4 with the native SIP client.
Skype has been a hit and miss with the various versions over the past few years and much more unstable since Microsoft got their hands on it.

[Q] Major lag spike when playing a game and connected to wi-fi.

So basically I had this issue for awhile now, even on stock ROM and kernel. Now i'm using CM10 nightly with franco kernel. Whenever I play a game offline or out of reach pf Wi-Fi, the game runs perfectly fine. But when connected to Wi-Fi i'm getting huge frame drops (1-5 fps) every like 2-3 min. Maybe it has already been answered, but yes, I did search the forums, I searched pretty much everywhere. Anyone had similar issues?
What about 3g/4g?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
I do,and I still did not got a workaround with this...but I don't have this issue only when connected to wifi, just every time i do something(play a game, scrolling, switching homescreens) the only workaround is using faux kernel wich is pretty good(in my case)
Maybe an app like facebook

Have you tried with a different game?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
It does it with mostly 3D games, but it does it as well for a few 2D games like Drag Racing. I noticed that turning off auto-sync got rid of the lag for about 10 minutes. But then the framedrops would happen again.

Seems as though you have something running in the background.
You could try, is catch what is going on via logs (ddms may be helpful here since it has a built in log, but you can get them via adb as well) or adb shell commands, adb shell top for example. Trying and see what is going on when the lag spikes hit.
Alternatively, you can disable/uninstall apps that could possibly be the offenders. Facebook apps, twitter apps, messaging, email...perhaps even widgets. Then try and game until you figure out what the offender was.
This is assuming it is another app at fault.
Alright thanks for the advice! Won't be able to try it right now as I'm going on a vacation but as soon as I can I'll do it and report back.
