[Q] Need Rooting Help Galaxy S3 SGH-T999 - T-Mobile, Samsung Galaxy SIII

I watched you guys video on how to root this model and when I got to recovery mode and android appeared instead of the hat so it couldn't install the zip file. It also told me something about I didn't have a binary su installed when I tried to enter the superuser. I'm an very new at this and would like to learn more about this and know how to successfully root my phone. I also am running 4.1.2 Jelly Bean. Thanks, all help is appreciated:fingers-crossed:

There are lots of guides to help you get started in this stuff. Search xda for noobs guide and you shoukd find a few. Then read all the stickies for our device.
And you must learn how to use Odin. No way to root without it.
Once youve read what's out there, we will be glad to answer questions and help out. But there's no reason for anyone to repost step by step what to do every time someone asks, when its all already out there.

how to install the official tmobile update?

Hi i am having trouble installing the the tmobile software update that was release about a week ago. I bought this phone awhile back from a guy who had it rooted but i told him to have it reset to the original mode. Whenever i try to update it it takes me back to recover mode CWM. What should i do? If not what are benefits of rerooting if i can?
There are 3756372848362 threads on this exact topic and they have all been posted since the OTA update came out two weeks ago.
Try a search
And here's a hint: if you are using cwm recovery the ota update will not work with your phone.

ok nvm i will do but right now i did something stupid that i though would solve my usb connection problem. I downloaded the usb storage manager from android marketplace and change some of the settings (erase some sd file names) and now my phone is showing 0 space available and to make matter worse i just uninstalled the program and cant download anything.
You dont have to unroot to take the ota. Just have to have the stock recovery

This topic has been brought up so many times it isnt even funny any more. Even in the rom threads like juggernaut people are asking how to get rid of this update. A SIMPLE search would have answered the question..
...and its not like i didnt help the guy after i chided him for not searching. All he has to do is flash the rom i posted a link to via CWM which he ALREADY stated exists on his phone.
Damn teenagers on xda.

[Q] First time rooting. ^^'

Hi there.
This is my first time rooting my GS3 SGH-I747, and I couldn't finish rooting it completely. So I tried it again, and it didn't work. Then I went searching on how you un-root and such, then I found this thread and followed it (I think it resets your phone to stock?), I'm not sure. Anyways, now I just want to get my phone back to the way it was before I did all of this. I think I've got to reset my custom binary counts and set the system status to 'normal' instead of 'custom/modified'. I was wondering how you do this? Also, I was wondering if once you root your phone will it always stay rooted or can you reset that so it's like it never happened (as if I didn't even do anything to my phone). I hope you can understand what I'm trying to say/ask. Thanks and the help is very much appreciated.
The thread is about stock rooted ROM. You can always undo root. You need to flash an unrooted stock rom

[q] can i root on the new jellybean 4.1.1?

Well not "new" but you know. I just recently got my galaxy s3 (love it) and rooted it when i was on ice cream sandwhich. than i found out my carrier rolled out 4.1 (at&t) so updated my phone but then lost my root. Im coming from iphones where with jailbreaks there was a different procedure for each ios. Is it the same for androids?
P.s might've done this in the wrong thread i apologize but i literally just made this account right now to figure this one thing out. I want to go back to custom roms
cheers

i cant post links yet according this site sorry lol
follow instructions on this thread

I've also been wanting to root my S3, the phone just updated to the stock Rogers firmware with JB.
There doesnt really seem to be a straight answer as to whether the instructions on this website: http://galaxys3root.com/galaxy-s3-r...gh-t999sgh-i747sph-l710-fail-proofnoob-proof/ are still valid for Jelly Bean, so I'm going to hold off with trying.
I do have the itch to try CM10 though.

Please read the post above yours and follow the link. Read the entire posting by OP. It makes it very clear that the answer is yes you can root it and tells you how to do so. Just in case you missed the link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1739426 .
Lastly, after reading the forum at the link provided, if you do not understand what the OP is talking about, then you should not be attempting to root your phone. If you miss an important step because you did not understand it you could end up with an expensive paperweight.

Yea I see that, but with that method I'm re-flashing the ROM. With the other method I posted I'm only installing recovery and Root. I know I've read somewhere that with the method you mentioned no apps or data will be wiped, can you confirm this?
Yep

Yes I can. I rooted using that method and all of my apps and data was intact...with SuperSU added so I can utilize apps that require root. I lost no data whatsoever.
I did not install a recovery though because I am wanting to run the rooted stock ROM for the moment and just did not want to bother with recovery at the moment since it is an extra step (just being lazy). Eventually I will get around to installing a recovery and CM since it has always been a favorite of mine.

No problem. Good luck and fun rooting and flashing.
But see, now this http://www.epiccm.org/2012/06/cwm-recovery-on-all-sgs3-lte-variants.html site says to install recovery, then run the root.zip inside of recovery to root.
This is conflicting information, as the how to here at xda says to flash the whole ROM again.

This is one way of rooting. The object behind the original link to XDA was to not flash the trip counter. I only mention XDA because I know this allows you to root JellyBean. Follow the xda verbatim step by step as it has been proven to work for JellyBean. Note that the posting on XDA does not say follow the instructions on the site linked in the quotes, but rather to download and extract the file referenced in question. Then you continue with the procedure as posted on the forum in XDA. Please note the remarks regarding a recovery and JellyBean and the counter being tripped.
There is not always one way to root. Take note that the above link for downloading the file for recovery is older than what has been done on the XDA site. Newer information typically is the safer way to go.

Ok, so I tried the Team Epic way at first, however it appeared to be a no-go. After flashing recovery through Odin, removing the battery, the phone would not enter recovery.
Then I tried the HOWTO on this forum and it worked, no data lost.
Only downside is that my first attempt tripped the flash counter, but I'm really not worried about it. Now to remove the rogers bloat ware...

Glad it worked. The information here on XDA is much more current than the site you were refering to anyway so your chance of success should lean more toward the updated information.

How to flash jedi xp11 ROM?

im a complete noob so this is as far as ive gotten ive downloaded the jedi xp11 rom, ive read how to flash it using a recovery tool i figured id use TWRP but i dont know how to install TWRP my device is not rooted please someone help me with my missing step.
First.. go and research rooting and flashing custom ROMs and recoveries.
Then go back and read it all again.
Search for how to flash with a computer... and without one with Odin and mobile Odin.
Learn what you need...before attempting to do this
There are plenty of guides to do this available to see if you just search.

[Q] LORJAY589 MC2 to MK4 Knox Free Update?

Hi everybody. I have a question. so I want to install LORJAY589's update rom. and as he has been very adamant about following his instructions down to the letter. I am having a problem. he said he installed CWM through the galaxy note 2 toolkit. so that's what I wanted to do. but when I went to the thread he mentioned in note 2 original development section. i found that the link is no longer up. I saw other posters on his thread mention work around's to this problem. but again further back in his post. he said do not use other peoples work around's. he said to follow his and only his instructions to get it to work. so my question is does anyone know where I can find the galaxy note 2 toolkit he used. untill I find it I will be unable to install his update rom. thanks in advance for any help on this problem

I just wanted to say that I was curious if I could simply flash the stock deodexed MK4 4.3 ROM from my existing rooted MC2 TW ROM with TWRP recovery and so I took a chance. I had zero issues. I didn't un root etc. as was instructed . What are the reasons for returning to stock un rooted before flashing MK4? I'm currently on rooted MK4 with no issues doing it the way I mentioned. Yes I'm hard headed lol
