Can't get OTA updates - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S 4

So a couple of weeks ago, I installed a font app which changes the font. When it rebooted, the device was bricked... So I went through the long and tedious process of DL the firmware and flashing stock to my device then getting my phone back to the original state since everything was wiped... Now I have a problem, I can't get ota updates cause it says my device is modified. And I don't understand cause I'm fully stock!!! Check the pictures out with my phone's info but please help.

Stock ROM and recovery? Reset flash counter?
Good thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2336392
There's no OTA update right now anyway.

Yes it's stock ROM and recovery. And no I did not reset flash counter. To do that, it would have to root again right?

Yeah just root only with CF Auto Root, run TA and go into SuperSU app and choose "Full Unroot" option.

Hey again.. I found some time to do this.. Re-rooted then used TA, went to download mode and it said "samsung official" then went to super su to un-root. After that I went to check in about device and it still says I'm on custom!!! Wtf!

I guess one good thing came out of us getting the last 4.3 update, we are ready and didn't have to learn about Knox the hard way.

Thanks guys... It may have taken 2 hours but I finally Rooted my phone for the first time... Flashed the previous update and now im just waiting for it to start so i can unroot my phone... I like knowing that I have a warranty on it
One more noob question.... How do you know if your phone is unrooted? I Flashed the previous update and cleared my cashe and wiped my data and now my device status is normal. does that mean that im not rooted anymore?
Glad you're learning some of the basics but you should definitely read before you start going to sammobile and installing leaks. You should be glad that your phone isn't bricked.

Learning is what happens when you do something that you don't have the knowledge to do. If I said I knew what I was doing before I started flashing, I would be a liar. That being said, a smart person learns from other people's mistakes. Read a lot.
It's simple. Basically, never flash anything that isn't made for the SGH-T999. And if using Odin, always use PDA.
Since you are rooted, get Terminal Emulator from the Play Store. Run it, and type: su <enter> reboot nvbackup <enter>. This will backup your IMEI data, so it can be restored should it ever become corrupted. You will only need to do this one time.
Follow these instructions, and it's pretty much impossible to hard brick.
You want to check root status? Why do you need another app from the Play Store? Just open Superuser/SuperSU. It will tell you if the binaries are present/updated. Though, the presence of a su app is generally indicative that you have root access.

[Q] JB Update Fails.

So I was happy to read the Tmo GS3 finally getting JB and even happier when my phone pulled it.
However I cannot get it to install.
I'm full stock ROM. I did root via "debugfs-based Root for Galaxy S III"
The first time it failed I remembered I had programs frozen.
Unfroze them, still failed.
So I uninstalled my SuperUser app and told it to remove root.
Both Root Checker and Titanium Backup show no root access.
Update still fails.
Am I missing a step here? Or am I looking at resetting the phone to update it?

Ugh, I cant stand kies, personally. Never use it. Imo there is a much better, safer, nore efficient method.
You are rooted so im assuming you want to stay that way correct?
Go to the firmware thread in my sig and towards the top of the op you will see a section called root66.
Download the latest root66 firmware. Extract the file using 7zip, it should be a .tar.md5 file.
You will use Odin to flash this. If you arennt familiar with Odin, go to the 2nd post to download the latest vrrsion, 3.07. Below that you will find instructions for many different methods, find the flash in Odin one and follow the steps.
The root66 firmware is identical to the stock released by T-Mobile, except it comes pre-rooted, so you wont have to worry bout it after!
Good luck whichever way you go!

Op of that thread will tell you to do exactly what I just did a post or so ago. Just sayin that you should update your firmware before flashing custom roms.
Not required, but recommended for running the jb roms. Otherwise you dont get the full update.
Firmware via odin will update 10 partitions, custom roms only 2-3 on average.

For whatever reason, stock rooted then unrooted ROM did not want to be updated either way.
Ended up going with the root66 JB option and ODIN.

Device status official

I just unrooted my phone, and device status says official. That means its just back to how I got it from the store, and I can get the ota update, right?

yes. if you have not flashed anything then your back to complete stock however if you flashed any custom rom your flash counter will have been tripped which would require you use traingle away to rest. But if all you did was root your phone with motochopper and have now unrooted it, it should be like stock

Follow this guide that I made if you want to get ota updates again. There's an issue where you probably have to wipe your internal SD. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2336392
In my opinion, to get the latest update just download the official .tar rom from sammobile.com and flash it in Odin... You'll ,together, return to box state and have the most up to date official rom...
Always be careful, read read and read before you do anything...
The flash counter increases every time you use Odin to flash (e.g., a rooted kernel) even if everything else is stock. When I needed warranty exchange a few weeks ago I was forced to use Triangle Away even though I had never installed a custom ROM and had only been rooted.

Cant update.

Hey guys, im having a bit of an issue. I cant check for software updates because my device has been modified. Is there a fix for this, even after I Flashed the stock tar file, it still gives me this message :/ I have only flashed one ROM on this device, but since I forgot to make a back-up I resort to using Odin when I want to get back to stock. Now I read on another thread that root could be a cause, so I figured, complete restore with with Odin would help, but instead I get the same message.

I see. Ok, well I rooted and unlocked my bootloader yesterday. Today I received the update and installed it. When the phone rebooted to install the update, it went to TWRP. Then when the update finished, it booted normally. When I say nothing changed, I meant nothing with my software. Everything was left the same, even my notifications. When I tried to boot into the boot loader, it booted normally so I checked if my phone was still rooted and it wasn't. We have to have all updates before rooting and unlocking.
I can't remember if this is what it did when zvb came out our not. But we also couldn't unlock zvb for a while. So we avoided taking the update.

TWRP? Don't ota updates require a stock recovery or else they fail? Are you sure your phone didn't boot without installing anything like it would normally do on other phones with custom recoveries? Did you check your phones about section to make sure you're on ZVC??

Even I did the same thing as you. Installed the update on a rooted and unlocked phone, it went to TWRP, update was installed, after that rebooted and it was all stock with bootloader locked. Data was not wiped, all apps including Super SU was there but no root. It says ZVC in the settings, and google apps are updated.
