For anyone else that's a Splashtop fan (Like Me!).
Splashtop RDP HD and THD are not currently compatible with the Nexus 7. I've contacted their support email and received the following:
Thanks for your inquiry.
Currently the HD version needs “xLarge” screen, so 7’’ devices are filtered. But the upcoming 2.0 version will add support for “large” screen devices, so Nexus 7 will be supported at that time.
The Gamepad THD app currently only supports ASUS Transformer Prime, we also will add more devices to support, however, since we don’t have a Nexus 7 yet, so I don’t know whether it can be supported in the future.

Hopefully this means we'll have RDP HD soon, but we may still be left looking for a solution for THD.
Mods, I figured this went here since it was discussing a particular App. If not, please feel free to move it appropriately.

I've bought RDP, RDP HD and Gamepad THD so I'm all set hopefully that 2.0 update comes soon though.
It may be possible to use the build.prop mods to alter the density to 160, and get the device reporting itself as xlarge.
Perhaps someone with an actual device could test this?
I got Splashtop THD to login to my PC running ST2 other day but that's as far as I got. I'll try again later in the day & report back.

I was able to get RDP HD installed and connect to a box running 2.0 but all I got was a black screen. I watched myself controlling it (mouse, etc) but no visual on the n7.

Yeap, I got the same result.
That's weird. Both RDP and RDP HD installed and run well on my N7... I bought both versions on the Amazon App Store however. The only reason why I stuck with the RDP version is that the HD version is locked in landscape orientation.

What's your DPI @ when running the HD version and what version is the streamer you're connecting to?
Why can't Splashtop make their HD version part of the original app? Ugh, things like that just annoy me.
I had this issue on my xoom with this app before.
Went to splashtop's site and found a fix.
It had me change something in my registry on my PC. I don't remember what that was though, but I never had that problem again.
Anyone got this working on the N7 if so can you post a video to show if it lags and what not.
Also does this require your pc or laptop to be on at all times?

Obviously if the computer is off, but what if the computer is in sleep mode, can you wake it from sleep remotely?
How does this compare to something like Teamviewer?
It is also free which is a perk.
Did get Splashtop HD working. It makes me feel like THD might work as well, but I don't have that app yet.
Was getting the blank screen issue, but after uninstalling and reinstalling and reconfirming the settings on my 2.0 pcs, I'm now getting video at both 160 and 213 dpi
Should also mention that I'm using the computer's native display.

The option is there and I've tried on my Windows 7 Desktop, I've put it to sleep and the Splashtop App shows it as unavailable, but under multiple options there's a Wake Up option. But it's never worked for me.

I believe that it should be possible to turn on your computer from sleep if your computer has a wired connection. Not a snowballs chance in hell it would work over wifi though. I think you would be looking for the 'Wake on LAN' option, though be aware that if you protect your PC with a password your computer will turn on but you won't be able to enter the password remotely, you'd have to go to the PC itself to do so.

Of what? It working? No special settings other than setting the remote desktop's Splashtop 1 connectivity options.
I got a notice to download the "AllshareCast Dongle S/W Update" to version LJ02 today. I don't have an AllshareCast dongle and I didn't even know that this app was installed on my phone. I'm wondering why they've pushed it out to everybody (I assume), since I imagine that only a tiny number of people have the app. Seems like it would make sense to install it only for people who actually have the dongle.
I'm thinking about uninstalling or freezing it. Has anybody else received it? Any thoughts?
I received the update last night around 130 am eastern........ Had no clue what it was. I am going to delete in a few minutes

It's supposed to allow the GS3 to update the software on the Allcast dongle that you can attach to TVs and such for device mirroring.

The update is showing as not compatible with my SGS3 if I look at it on the Play Store. Dunno if it's a region thing or the fact I'm rooted with stock?
I'm keen to try this update on my Allshare dongle. Would anyone be able to extract the APK for this update?

Are you on LH9? It seems to only work on LH9 and LI5.
It's not an ATT GS3, so it's not got that firmware on it, but is the latest stock for my region, as far as I know (UK).
I was hoping the APK alone might still work, as it appears to be updating the Allcast dongle itself, rather than being tied to anything on the phone, hardware-wise.
Perhaps Samsung are rolling it out to a select few 'test' firmwares first? I believe I'm on LJ4, but I'm not up on Samsung's firmware terminology - not needed to really stray from rooted stock on this phone.
If you're able to extract the APK, it would be much appreciated

This is a legitimate Samsung update and it is a part of the function that allows you to share the screen with Dlna enabled devices such as blue ray players, wdtv (and other streaming boxes) and hdtv with the function.

Are you sure about that? What you're describing sounds like "AllShare Play" which is a completely different app. Where did you get your information that this app has some connection to DLNA?
I have been using the all share dongle. It is just as described as above. I mirror my phone thru the dongle to and TV with a HDMI port. Or Samsung devices. Play videos games whatever. All share play let's you remote control devices from your phone. All share dongle does work thru some type of dlna service from what I read on Samsung site and other places.
I was using this feature before the update was put out. It now shows up as a installed app. Before the update it was just something you could turn on in settings and still is.
It's the pre configured scan portion for the $90 wifi dongle that you buy to connect to hdmi port on projectors and hdtv displays and or the software for your computer that allows you to share via wifi or Internet.
I bought the MHL connection and carry a cable so when I am in hotels I watch what I want (netflix, Hulu) while the phone charges.
But the address of the developer is legit.

I'm sure that the update is legit. I just want to avoid confusion and misinformation about what it's for:
The Allshare Cast Dongle app supports the Allshare Cast Dongle
The Allshare Play app provides DLNA connectivity to DLNA-capable devices
I believe that the Allshare Cast Dongle does not use DLNA and that this update has no relationship to the Allshare Play app or to DLNA capability. If anybody has good evidence to the contrary, please post it.
That being said, my guess is that this new update being pushed out is useless to the great majority of us who don't have the dongle.
I'm pretty sure All Share Cast is Samsung's version of Miracast.

That's exactly what it is, I don't think the dongle uses DLNA at all.
I've found that this update has been changed to be compatible with my phone (stock UK GS3) over the last few days. It originally was shown as not compatible.
It basically prompts you to update your Allshare Cast dongle firmware when you next connect to it. It updates the dongle firmware - wirelessly - to version LJ02, which appears to have made the dongle connection much more stable, and quicker to establish.
OK, so I installed the update, then uninstalled it when I saw that it was useless for me. Now, I am getting a perpetual update notice in Google Play. Does anybody know a way to make the update notice go away without actually installing the app? The only way I can think of is to install it and then freeze it, but that seems like a waste.

I just had a quick back and forth with Samsung. It is Not a official app. All official app can be found at www.Samsungapps.com.
Edit: seems that Samsung isn't sure it is or not.... They talked with someone else who says that it is valid. XDA has it marked as bloatware that can be removed.
Edit2: Lookout Security says they've been asked about it before and "We have encountered this in the past and Samsung has stated that this is their app via our contact." I'm requesting it be confirmed.
Edit3: A second person at Samsung support says it's not official and a 3P app.
It CAN be un installed with TI. First detach it from the market and then uninstall. It's actual name is com.sec.fwupgrade so don't be alarmed when it says that. I will be sending it to a couple of security vendors to include in malware lists and questioned Samsung why they have not had the app removed.

Has anyone tried to cast their Nexus 5x to the TV without using any kind of electronic device like chromecast and etc. but by just using the phone itself? If so, can someone help me out. I've tried many ways but it seems like my phone doesn't recognize my LED TV. It always says "No nearby devices were found".
Sorry for double posting. Please delete this. Thanks!
it happen only Nougat when i was on marshmallow its works fineT^T
Mine is the same, worked in my Nexus 4 but Google seem to have disabled it in the 5X and it's a pain as we used to show photos on the TV screen instead of passing g around my phone. I've yet to find a solution
I tried miracast and it doesn't work to me either ..
So +1
Google killed Miracast in Android N.

Since the casting function is specifically made for chrome cast it won't work without it.
On the bright side, a chrome cast device is really cheap and will work with any device that can run chrome or chromium.
Just having a LED TV doesn't mean anything, is it a smart TV and if so what OS is it running?
Can the Razer phone cast to Chromecast or Android TV?
Of course it can for movies, music etc not sure about screen mirroring if that's what you mean.
Few apps that work generically in the play store.
Maybe someone with more Android experience will chime in. Looks to be a few tho.

Casting is not device specific but app specific. For example The CW app doesn't support casting, so I can't cast it to my Mi Box with has chrome cast installed in it. But, YouTube app has cast in the app, so I can then connect to my Mi Box with Bluetooth or over my wifi connection to cast the YouTube app to it. I just did this last night with no issues.
Hi were you able to try google home mirroring? Thanks again.
Google Chromecasting works, as well as miracasting. Which is not than the Google Pixel would do.. Answer is yes and supports all forms of casting well.
I was in a restaurant that had chrome cast with their TV. My phone saw it and asked if I would like to cast.
Shoulda thrown up some porn lol
Look in the drop-down notification screen. There is an icon for casting. That means that you can cast your screen or anything on it. It's not app specific.

Chromecast yes, miracast, not on stock (I think you can enable it with root, but not sure)
I think Samsung borked something up in Android 10. or at least in its Smartview app. I am unable to mirror to a Miracast WiFi adaptor, nor to a Miracast enabled TV. I enabled Miracast on a Sony TV and connected my Note 10+ to it. It connected to the TV, but it is not mirroring my phone's screen. It will show my photos and videos I have in Gallery, but it won't cast a video from Netflix, Disney+, Prime Video, or Movies Anywhere. I tried it with a Microsoft Wireless Display Adaptor and got the same results.
My Galaxy Tab S5e has no problems mirroring to a Miracast TV or Miracast wireless adaptor. I connected and mirrored my Tab S5e to the exact same devices my Note 10+ connected to. I had no problems playing content from the same apps that I tried on my phone. My Tab S5e is running Android 9
Before I upgraded to Android 10, I had no problems mirroring my phone screen using Miracast.
I have tried rebooting my phone, clearing the cache on both Smartview and the phone, and clearing the data on Smartview. I have also reset my network connections on my phone.
You might have it in Dex mode instead of mirror mode

Yes. I've even tried a couple 3rd party Miracast mirroring apps and got identical results. Samsung borked up something either in Smartview or Android 10. I'm thinking Smartview is the problem.
I just tried it on my Samsung smart TV and got identical results. I couldn't get it to mirror properly on three different devices: a Sony TV, a Microsoft Wirelles Display Adaptor, and a Samsung Smart TV. It could be an issue with DeX, but I can't find where to check.

I think Smart View is a buggy thing. My phone won’t connect unless the source is set other than HDMI 1 (Sky). Even then I can’t set it to watch TV on my phone.
For me, the most annoying is the fact that I can’t zoom in while playing video in Smart View, like I can when playing it on the phone. Every time I try, I get the error on phone: “Zoom is not supported for this video size (176 x 144)” I’ve no idea what that means, whether it’s to do with Smart View, the Video Player or the TV its self.
Has anyone tried it?
My 10+ won't mirror, but my galaxy tab 4 works perfect.
Maybe it is the phones. Maybe it works flawlessly with Samsung TVs only.

Looks like Sammy is deprecating Smart View come October so likely not going to be investing much in fixing defects.
Btw, I also tried it using both One UI and Microsoft Launcher and neither worked. I'm wondering if it is because of DRM.
